    Funny that I found this video -- I just went and bought some frozen rats from these guys for my baby girl today. Two things: Great quality, Great price. I do need to get some hides more equipped for her size though.
    Video idea: Not sure if you've done one prior, but perhaps a video of if/when/how to do assisted feeding for those stubborn snakes that just don't seem to want to eat. My first snake refused to eat for a while after I got her and she started showing signs of malnourishment so had to do some assisted feedings until she became interested in her food again - which thankfully didn't take too long.

  • @cbailey009
    @cbailey009 11 лет назад

    the rule of thumb when feeding snakes is the food item should be as thick as the snakes thickest part. that works the same for adults. also if your getting a baby, be prepared, ball pythons are picky eaters as babies, and you might need to feed it live until it gets older. but they usually easy to switch to frozen thawed after a while. one baby can start out in a 10 or 20 gallon tank and end up in a 40 or 50 gallon as an adult. as to the heating it depends on the heat of your house.

    I'm hopefully going to be getting a baby ball python in a few months, and I have a few questions.
    1.What size mice should I feed it when I first get it home?
    2. How long should I feed it that size mouse before I move up?
    3. If I get a red bulb and a heat mat, should I run both of those 24 hours a day?
    4. What size tank or aquarium should I start off the baby snake in?

  • @cbailey009
    @cbailey009 11 лет назад

    before i got my snake, he was part of my animal science class, he was there for a year and during that time he got mites. Our teacher sprayed him with a solution to kill the mites, but she always absolutely soaked him and the tank with it every day until the mites were gone, after that the wheezing started. I don't normally add any water other then his water dish, Its only rarely when he comes in contact with to much water. like if my hairs wet when I have him on my shoulder.

    I think you Can have two ball pythons live together as long as it's a good size cage that's what I do and that seem to do just fine and you don't have to feed your snake on a schedule because they don't have one In The wild I know you didn't say that they have to eat on a schedule but great video and I will hopefully be ordering from you guys soon

      Leyton Marker it is still best to house snakes individually. They do not live in a 3 foot space with another snake in the wild.

    Should you have your ball python cage set up before you bring the snake home or can you get all the supplies when you buy the snake

  • @hannahjocks8004
    @hannahjocks8004 11 лет назад

    1. look at the thickest part of your snakes body and feed it that size of a mouse.
    2 As it grows you'll notice its thickness will get thicker. Just upgrade to that size
    3. Do NOT get a light! never! Get a heat mat only and put it on one side of the cage. If your snake is to reach to the top of the cage toward the light it could burn itself and lights stress them out.
    4 if you want to go a cheaper way u could use a tub w/ a secure lid and punch a bunch of holes. either 15-20 quart tub or 10gal

    my ball python starts wheezing if i add any humidity in his tank other then his water dish. even if i pick him up and just wipe him down with a wet paper towel. but other then that hes fine. he sheds OK as well. Anyone have an idea what could be wrong?

  • @hannahjocks8004
    @hannahjocks8004 11 лет назад

    Sounds like your are doing and very good job! But, since u do that the only thing it could be is the bedding. the bedding could be too dusty or have some chemicals in it that is hurting your snakes lungs. The best advice I can give u is switch to paper towels or newspaper and wait a couple weeks and see if it makes a difference, If not, see or talk to a vet

  • @hannahjocks8004
    @hannahjocks8004 11 лет назад +1

    hmmm. How often are u cleaning ur cage? and how much ventilation is there. The urine smell could be harming your snakes lungs. Either way, a vet is best to talk to. just ask for their advice.

    I know this is a Ball Python video and not a Cornsnake video but I want to get a Cornsnake so I was wondering if you could just use an adult sized tank for baby if you just put a lot of stuff inside of the tank so it seems like a smaller one. Also, when should you try to first feed a snake when you get it in the mail since you don't know when it ate last?

    I have a 92 degree hot hide, ambient day temp 82-86 but at night drops to low 70s with a red light. She stays on warm side at night in the plants which stay around 75-78. I've been cycling the day light on and off with a thermostat to raise the ambient temp back up. But I also know she needs at least 10-12 hours of darkness being a nocturnal ball python, my first tropical thoughts? Help? This a great video but I didn't hear about safe minimum temps.

    What can cause your snake to slowly grow?
    I've kept ball pythons 10 years and I'm only 18.
    I got 3 ball pythons almost 2 years ago after my 5 foot one died and they bairly grown since I got them.
    I feed evey week.
    I got a new ball that's only one year old and its twice the size of my other ball pythons.
    I did get them from Petco Cuz they suck at keep in animals and I felt bad for them but they arnt growing like I know they should.

    my humidity gauge was at 20-30 and my boa shed all in 1 piece, but it just refuses to eat (3 months... 4th in counting), don't know what im doing wrong, temperature is around 80. but now that i raise humidity in the tank up to 60-70, its became more active, i guess now its time to try feeding again. or is it winter hibernation time ? and i should wait until its warmer to feed.
    that tank at 15:50, i have it and its amazing :D

    • @LLLReptile1
      @LLLReptile1  10 лет назад +1

      If the temperature is only about 80 degrees, that's your problem - most snakes do best with a warm spot of 88+. You need to increase the heat on one side of the snake's enclosure.

    So when people are trying to "tame down" a snake for handling, are they anthropomorphizing? Snakes neither need or want friends, so.. am I right? Something tells me I won't get a response to this...

    • @northolmsted4045
      @northolmsted4045 9 лет назад +1

      +Suq madique I would hope that people try to train their snake to accept their presence. By taming I mean that they get the animal to see them as a non-threat, not that they play fetch. People need to be able to handle. feed, and clean their pet snake without it going crazy. It's not anthropomorphizing unless someone thinks that the snake has the same level of intelligence and emotional bias as a human. This was your response. :)

    just rescued one yesterday and have had it for a day but had a question. the snake has silvery eyes and has some wrinkle spots on it. not sure when the snake has last shed but are those signs of potential shedding? Tank temp@88-90 humidity%ranges from 45-55. thanks and good vibes!

    • @LLLReptile1
      @LLLReptile1  9 лет назад

      kevin oliphant Those are called eye caps. Needs to be seen by someone who knows how to help you remove them. In the mean time, steam baths help loosen up shed on them (not too hot, but very warm on a bunch of soaked paper towels in a tupperware container). 15 minutes, then try to gently rub the eyes, see if it comes off with a damp cloth. If not, see someone local to you.

    • @kevinOlip
      @kevinOlip 9 лет назад

      do you think the steam bath will take care of the eye caps? I've done some research on the caps but I'm not a pro and i don't know this snakes behavior even though he seems very tame i can pick him up right out the cage. id like to do this myself for two things vet bill cost and it has been snowing here and am not able to drive. any other tips? thanks!

    • @SansaStarkofWinterfell
      @SansaStarkofWinterfell 8 лет назад

      +kevin oliphant For eye caps, if you happen to have the rubber thumb covers that can be purchased at places like office depot you can use those to remove them. Just give the snake a soak in a warm bath of water for 20-30 min. checking on it to see if the shedding has come loose. If it requires a longer soaking, refresh the water and allow a longer soaking. Then, gently take your thumb with the rubber thumb thing on it and take the caps off rubbing from the front of the snakes face to the back. It should remove the caps off. You can do this for the snakes shedding and then make sure the poor buddy has better humidity in its habitat. It's a great thing you did rescuing it. I hope you were able to figure out how to help it. I know this is a late reply. I don't know if you were able to figure this out or not... I hope somehow you didn't have to get stuck with a big vet bill.

      ***** I've been researching info on ball pythons since I want to get one for my first pet snake. I've watched almost all of your videos on ball pythons and have learned a lot. I checked with my local animal hospital to see if they work with reptiles. They said they specialize in reptiles and told me to bring my snake in routinely for de-worming. Does that make sense or are they just trying to get money?

    • @LLLReptile1
      @LLLReptile1  10 лет назад +3

      ethanb09 That might be needed for snakes that ate lizards or frogs, but with mice it should not be a necessity. Perhaps they meant that routine fecal work would be a good idea - which is true, in an ideal world, yearly fecals would be the best. However, captive bred snakes eating captive bred mice in a clean, well cared for environment should not need routine worming on a yearly basis.

      +Hannah Brower handle your snake more, gently touching its head & body all over. Allowing it to see you're absolutely *not* a threat in any way. Do this on a continual basis. I recently bought a spider ball python from a guy who uses a rack system and doesn't handle his. The little girl was so darn head shy that any time I'd raise my hand she'd ball up and jerk away from me. Now she doesn't do that at all. She cruises around between my fingers, allows me to stroke her head with my finger tip. It's sweet and I've got some of the most amazing images of her head & eye.
      So just be persistent, but gentle and slow. You'll be able to get yours to understand you're not a threat.
      Good Luck!
      ~Tina

      +Sansa Stark thank you! Actually since I posted that in June, my snake (manolo) has really warmed up to me. I try to handle him at least once a week and now he's content just resting on my shoulders or wrist. He's also not as head shy as he used to be :) he's so wonderful and has never ever tried to strike at me.

    also, my ball pythons would always stretch to the top of the tank and check the light out and because it was so hot they almost burned their face. U dont want that. :)

    I really want to be able to carry my ball on my shoulders like that, but she's always so nosey and I can't get her to stay. She'll even drop off of my shoulders if I let her.

      This snake did not stay perfectly still on Jen's shoulders either. It takes practice on both the keeper and the snake's part to get used to being draped over shoulders. Some snakes are better at it than others, and as they get older, they tend to mellow out and get easier to have on your shoulder like that.

    The snakes you sell on your website do you feed them live or pre killed?

    I feed them mice.
    I will get a small rat to see if that will work.
    Thanks.

    ur snake has too much liquid built up in its lungs. Stop adding humidity to its cage and take it to a vet right away. This could badly hurt ur snake and it could die.
