Seems like a miracle but it's true! Goldmask finally speaks! In this video I'll show you one line of cut dialogue that was left behind from the Network Test
Here it is folks! Not a myth... The Goldmask Speaks! This was dug deep from the sound mines, believe me! Enjoy the video and don't forget to subscribe!
If you pump the volume at max and remove every other sound, Goldmask is still shocked at the revelation in the retail version of the game, he gasps loudly.
He says "*gasp*... and why not...?" because at that moment, the entire puzzle in his head falls into place. To any other person that claim alone would not make sense but to someone who knows as much as he does? He sees that there is no reason why it wouldn't be true. And he sounds like a weight falls off his shoulders because now it all makes sense.
I understand why it was cut, but hearing this single line completely changed the way I see the character, he went from a funny looking enigma to a deeply sympathetic character in 3 mumbled words
After replaying it several times, I'm convinced he's saying, "And, why not...?" ...Though personally I think it'd make more sense if he said "Then, why not...?" since this is the moment he recognizes the so-called "fly in the ointment:" if Marika was also Radagon the entire time, then why did they let such chaos unfold, tainting the Golden Order? Because, he realizes, the gods were the cause to begin with. Their selfish ambitions were what destroyed Order in the first place. The only way to perfect the Golden Order was to ensure that even the seemingly-infallible gods were held to its standards.
Yeah, exactly. When Goldmask talks of removing gods, he doesn't mean Outer Gods or the Greater Will. He wants to remove Marika and Radagon to make the Golden Order's tenets be unshakable... which tbh I think makes me less inclined to side with Goldmask

Mending the Ring with the runes you snagged along the way, effectively continuing current affairs (with Death™ now in the picture, maybe) until another Outer God usurps you. #2. Mending the Ring to now include Godwin's TWLiD, which... is pretty much the same as #1, except Fundamentalists no longer see TWLiD as impure? ...How many Fundamentalists are left, anyway? #3. Hell. #4. Mending the Ring except everyone's an Omen now. This can only end well, I'm sure.* #5. Getting hitched to ice witch waifu and subsequently realizing just how long a "thousand-year journey" is. ...Suddenly "#1 except nobody can screw with the Ring anymore, not even gods" doesn't sound too awful. @@agnacore I kind of like #5 because it feels almost... Like martyrdom, but together? Ranni was already planning to just be alone in the stars. You join her and essentially get to be together in the stars instead. The main reason I'm not a fan of Golden Order is what we've seen regarding the treatment of Omens, Misbegotten etc. I would have supported Miquella's path except we know that fell apart thanks to Mohg. Ranni's feels like an ending that requires the two deific figures leaving the world entirely, accepting that they shouldn't interfere... and I can take that
The way I read the three ending paths I feel determines your philosophical outlook on life, what you value. 1) Elden Lord: Authority. That there can and should be a definitive logic or law to the world that all must follow. Whether it be the Golden Order, or the Fell Curse. 2) Age of Stars: Freedom. The belief in freedom above all else. The Elden Ring will not be used to determine the tenets all must follow. Instead, the world goes on without gods as we determine our own truths. 3) Frenzied Flame: Antinatalism. Life is suffering. No more suffering, no more births.
Rather than "it, why not" I think he actually lets out a rather dumbfounded small laugh. "Heh, what?" Kinda like a "heh, the hell did you just say?" as the realization sinks in
I thought so at first also, but now I clearly hear “and….why not”. The last two words are spoken fairly quickly, with the “w” and “t” most clear, so I mistook it for “what” until I listened more carefully.
Honestly I prefer him making that shocks speak that honestly would give him a lot of character. Most of all this information is pretty shocking for those who served under the order.😺
It must definitely be "Yet, why not?". If you listen to it too many times, your mind starts tricking you. This is the simples and most rational solution, because he's passively accepting the information.

Let’s not forget the doorman in bloodborne who only says “password?” in a very creepy voice, and otherwise gibbers insanely, then when you finally open the door and interact with him a sign appears which says “already dead”. He’s clearly been dead a very long time.

By the way, do you think From Software intentionally removed this moment in the final game, or was it possibly an accident from removing the first line of "dialogue"?
It's too bad there aren't subtitles to this, but I guess we are to assume he hasn't spoken in so long that this is nearly unintelligible. I do agree with other commenters who say it sounds like "Yes, why not?"

Elden Ring has sooo much cut content, it's really sad. For example the Crucible Knights: in the CNT (close network test), the description of their armor describes them as "Godfrey knights". However this detail went entirely lost in the game. Or again, the flaming giant heads that were supposed to be in the environment. They were in the first leaked trailer, and during the CNT, from Margit boss-fight arena, if you look at the peninsula in the south of Limgrave (the area with castle Morne), those giant heads were visible. There were at least three of them, between that area and the Hero Tomb of the beginning of Limgrave. However they were cut away from the game T_T
this makes me think. we’re at the height of humanity. of life itself and of concepts itself. in elden ring. we inhérent the order of the world but it will never be the way it was.

Old comment i know but im honestly curious if you or other people making this statement are listening on headphones or are ESL speakers or something. The time between the W sound and the T sound is 2x what it would be if it were 1 syllable. There is also a clear Y sound after the W and an N sound before the T. I would recommend trying earbuds instead of headphones. Its just so weird to me.

I definitely hear a "why not". There's at least a very defined "ai" sound like in "why". Why he would say something like "why not?" is because he's realizing that it's something he's been missing that actually makes sense. So it's still a surprise, but it's one that he understands and amazes him, not just one that he finds entirely unbelievable.
That makes sense! My one criticism of that interpretation is just that the way of saying that feels less natural. I can imagine that being the case if there was more hesitation after "end", like he had to think about it or say it decisively, which is why I think it's "and/yes, why not?" as if he's realizing something that's finally making sense.

Most likely, they were used as placeholders until they decided fully on how to handle it - given that they were in the network test.
Fromsoft likes to keep everything as obtuse as humanly possible. You know how they are. They cut dialogue about a sea of fog from the game because it obviously implied a shared universe with other souls games. They cut all of the dialogue from Bloodborne that referenced Demon's Souls because once again, it implied a shared universe. Pretty much anything that even marginally clears things up is always cut completely, even the most minor of things.

I am hearing an inhale, and then "Left... Right!" This also sort of makes sense as a rambling to himself, since I think the idea is that left and right are conjoined into one. The Inner and Outer Orders are the same Order, thus you get totality - Marika is Radagon. But that's all just based on what I heard. :p
