It's quite interesting how the "Dream Collection" concept went through multiple iterations, voice acting included, but ended up getting scrapped completely. Makes me wonder if there was some technical difficulty in the implementation that couldn't be solved in a timely manner.
This version of Kalé is obviously still tied to the Frenzied Flame, but it also curiously presents a different take on the nature of Frenzy, one which hints at the nature and goals of the Three Fingers/Shabriri much, much earlier. The added detail of Kalé and his brothers being escapees from the tomb (instead of having simply avoided the punishment, as is somewhat implied in the released game), and that in their youth they were soothed by St. Trina/Miquella, not only fleshes out the characters a lot more, but it even gives Kalé the larger role he seems to be implied to have even in the finished game!

For a very long time I'd been wondering about why Kalé falls asleep and there's a purple mist surrounding the church when you first meet Ranni, but it makes a lot more sense now.
Additionally, the fact that Rogier & Ranni get collectively pulled into a dream during her quest still seems to stand out as a facet that's likely connected to those themes as well as Ranni being the one to intervene during Rennala's fight to keep her mother asleep.
What's especially notable about that is that all of Rennala's sweetings that are being reborn all look like her, blending together the same way that the Merchants were. On top of that, that finally makes the final detail that the Lucidity sorcery that cures Sleep & Madness is discovered by defeating Preceptor Miriam who you have to fight in order to find Ranni's original body.
Her corpse lies in a place where you would normally find the corpse of the Two Fingers who puppet them after the Shardbearer is defeated. The way that the Three Fingers literally assimilates itself into you to take over your will helps to illustrate the underlying theme of how difficult Ranni's questline is to divest herself from her Two Fingers, literally like a puppet cutting its own strings and killing the puppeteer while remaining alive.
Very, VERY curious how many of these details we'll get reshaped into a new form in the upcoming DLC, especially given that there have been some adjustments made to all the Divine Towers.

After coming back from cut content to win the Oscar of quest lines, Kalé is back to win another award. Man, these poor Great Caravan merchants got shortchanged *hard* in the final game. It's also interesting how the Frenzied Flame might be not just coalescing people's minds, but their literal bodies, as a possible explanation as to why Kalé and his siblings are identical triplets. I also find it interesting that, if Trina sang to the prisoners in the pit, Mohg has a construct of himself guarding the entrance to it. Perhaps Mohg realized he messed up to an extent by kidnapping and killing Miquella, and thus tried his own measure to prevent the Frenzied Flame from running amok?
This quest line is also great for fleshing out Miquella's attempts to help the discriminated against and downtrodden individuals of the Lands Between, showing care not just for the Albinaurics and a few Misbegotten. It also shows that certain individuals could access the prisons below Leyndell at some point, though Trina might have been a projection of sorts even then. Furthermore, this quest line presents Miquella as more active in the Lands Between in general, including emphasizing his potential effort to replicate what his mother, Marika, did by splitting himself into two beings and giving one an additional, new existence. However, Trina doesn't seem to have ever become as truly separate from Miquella as Radagon was from Marika, especially since Miquella getting killed seems to have made Trina disappear. I say this because the Rhico quest line, along with the Fe(r)vor's Cookbooks, can suggest that Trina was a being found in the dream world itself, not the waking world.
Thanks again, Sekiro Dubi! I deeply appreciate your work and the thorough, professional way you research, investigate, and present these topics.

Adds a whole level of lore implications and theories that can certainly lead to a better understanding of certain concepts yet understood to to us now. And tho they cannot be taken without grains of salt- being cut for a reason, not being considered as necessary for the players to be aware of and all- there are things that simply are too solid to ignore. St. Trinas dream catcher possessing the same iconographic black mist for instance. But the greatest I think being the strange line from Kalé that we now hear in game. Where he only hear an apparently random 'wait weren't you.' Without any context we are lead to rationalize ourselves. Now I understand he was referring not of our deaths to the horse guy, but of his brothers or his own slipping mind.

    • @SekiroDubi
      @SekiroDubi  6 месяцев назад

Yup. While the whole grain of salt is true. It’s clear we can learn from this how kale was developed. Even he knowing about Blaidd. It’s clear it comes from this quest. In the current game it just makes no sense

@@SekiroDubi Yeah. I get the feeling a lot of things in the game that get cut, maybe theyre to add to the mysteries. By removing vital pieces from the puzzle you are able to experience the beauty of speculation and discovery things like this, for yourself, using what you still have. Imagination is the best storyteller.
Wish other games could be like that too. Destiny once was but whoops. Not anymore. We get told everything.

At this point I feel like the only answer I find remotely satisfying, as to why so much was cut of Kalé and his people, is that Kalé might be the best candidate to lead the player toward the inevitable DLC(s). I just really hope they manage to return him the importance he's earned in the process.

  • @SaHaRaSquad

All this cut content makes me hopeful that DLCs and maybe even potential sequels will be much more polished. In Elden Ring they clearly did an insane amount of experimentation of features and other ideas, and now that they know what kind of game Elden Ring is supposed to be they can focus efforts much better.
I still want Kale's Frenzied Flame questline though, it's just too good to miss out on.

I would have loved to collect the dreams of the creatures of the Lands Between; perhaps early game animals and such would be found asleep naturally, but later on ones would have required the player to put them to sleep with the sleep status ailment using weapons or spells. I will continue to hope this will all be officially restored in a free update or in DLC.

If they bring back the Dream Mist concept in a DLC I will be so happy. It's an unique fun idea and gameplay style to the Soulsborne series. When you have captured a Dream Mist from a creature/enemy it would be stored in the "Info" tab in your inventory, a great opportunity to display the creature/enemy weaknesses and tactics to bring them down.

Interesting they still have in the base game the dialogue bit "weren't you just.." implying they still are tethered when you talk to them and end up recognizing you repeatedly through different siblings. Hope we get more smaller updates like the colosseum and magnus or jar bairn before we get the dlc.

  • @nickmurray2390

One thing that is in the final game I find interesting, when Melina puts you to sleep at the forge of giants the flame is immediately roaring. I have been unsure what she does to us there but I am pretty positive that is why the flame reappears. The line Kale gives about being able to sleep without the flame caught my notice in that regard. I should also add I have always seen the hands on their instruments as references to "the hands of the night will brooke thee no quarter" Morgott states.

This was much better than the DLC. St Trina and Miquella became less interesting after the DLC. St Trina barely feels like a character and Miquella turned out to be so stupid. It's a shame that they cut out the Haligtree quest which was far more interesting than the DLC plotline.

  • @fieramiraculorum2753

If anyone was curious, the whole questline was inspired by the sinti, kale (litterally the name of the merchant) and romani people's porrajmos made under Nazi Germany and the rest of Europe at the same time of the holocaust. It is very sad that this quest was deleted, I think it was thought to be too political, but in the end much appreciatable

  • @AndrewThePoet

A woeful thing theyve done. Im soured to see such grateful cut content restored by an amazing man like ye being abandoned. Why would they abandone a questline of importance? It would grant even more depth to the world. Specifically with the Silver Tear quest. I hope they may bring these quests back in a DLC; the more I think about a DLC coming, the more I doubt it.
