@@NS416 I personally prefer the way the AMG V8 pulls to redline, the sound and the character. And the hand built aspect is unique. The M5 CS is a beast though.
I didn't want this video to end . . . What a Car! This new generation SL is stunning. This is the Mercedes that gets all the admiring glances from other drivers. Check out that long, long hood - looks like it's speeding even when parked. Whoever's behind the wheel of the AMG SL 63 better not be shy. 😉
I just picked one up and my primary complaint is the ride quality….it’s too harsh. It’s like 911GT3 tight and that’s in comfort mode. There should be a way to dial down the settings, especially in comfort mode, but even in the lightest setting the suspension setup is just too tight. It throws me around like a rag doll. Other than that, the car is aces! Especially the drivetrain……it’s amazing.
If I were in the market for a grand tourer and had that kind of cash, I'd love this thing. We make great money, but I can't justify paying nearly twice as much as an E53 for less practicality and sunburns. In fact, I hate the panoramic roof on my C300 and wish I could have a carbon fiber roof with the black headliner instead. As it is, I had it tinted with 5% ceramic tint and it really cooled down the interior.
I try to match the road to the car - in this case the SL is a GT and doesn't really "need" to be in a canyon to be enjoyed (unlike a hot hatch, for example)
Great video. It’s luxury & sports car combined. Definitely see the appeal. Plus Used, it has more value than the 911s because it has depreciated a lot in 2 years where 911s haven’t. That makes it a great buy used with 40% off sticker for a 2022 model
The '17-'19 year are a naturally aspirated growling beast... Drives like a muscle car, feels like a La-Z-Boy. The slightly dated looks makes them great sleepers
I love the car, BUT the large-screen MBUX just bugs me. I don't mind it in a C-class, but they should add something actually engaging, like in the previous gen S-class: metallic finish on physical buttons. There's just nothing to a touchscreen that talks class or luxury, which is what I would want when paying anything above $100k.
For me, the 2023 the Mercedes Benz AMG SL63 doesn't do enough to remove me from the BMW M8 Competition Cabriolet. Hence, I shall still choose the BMW M8 Competition Cabriolet over the Mercedes Benz AMG SL63.
Excellent review and analysis. I was cross shopping this, M8 cabrio & the Audi R8 V10+ awd model. I choose the Audi as it has the best engine - Naturally aspirated V10, is mid engined and feels more sporty and not as stiff as say a Huracan Spyder. For $210-$230k range, Audi is winner. Also, this is the last month to order the Audi - they will be gone. SL is for old sugar daddies LOL :)
An excellent review of what is clearly an outstanding technical achievement of an automobile. However, with this latest model Mercedes has abandoned the traditional role of the SL, which is that of a hardtop convertible two-seater with enough space and power for two to travel comfortably on long voyages. The previous SL, the homely and somewhat unloved R231, was perhaps the best iteration of the concept, being lighter than its' predecessor the R230. While heavy, the folding hardtop was a wonderful convenience and the cars were rock solid with them up (or down, actually). By releasing this car as an AMG-only vehicle, the ideas of sophisticated comfort and manageable power have been forgotten. Not every rich sixty five year old executive with a trophy wife wants to be overwhelmed with power and technical complexity and stuffed into a racing seat.
Hint: Press the Roof-Button on the Button-Bar below the screen once. Then press and hold the Roof-Button below the screen the second time. Now, wait for the magic to happen. The roof will open or close. That depends on which state the Roof is at. That is way more easy than sliding and holding the bar on the screen to the left or right.
This is my dream car and I went to go look at one the other day a 63 and my dealer wanted 260k something. I was expecting the high to be around 170k, A very sad day to say the least.
Which would i chose? This car in white at 211k. Safe to say the way i was dressed that day my sales guy wasnt expecting to make that sale when he greeted me lol
These are NOT SL's just a few yrs ago these were the GT/C/Roadster & they still had Hardtop SL's. Supposedly the SL Sales were low so now the Switch a Rue!
am a big bmw fan however - this is wayyyyy better looking than the m8 convertible - the m8 looks like the softtop was an afterthought and it doesnt flow well with the body
@@AllanCuttingedge It would still be a GT car. The only diference is that it would be lighter. A GT car is a car that combines sportiveness with luxury and comfort. So it still has to be sporty which this is but if it was lighter it would be more agile. Plus the rear seats are pretty much useless in this car so whats the point in having them? It would be better to have a shelf to put your stuff there instead of having heavy seats that pretty much nobody will use.
This engine is what sets AMG apart from M or RS. Truly one of the greatest engines still available.
LOL, you this is a better engine then the V8 in the CS?

Well said Omardrives
It's a massive upgrade for the SL brand - it'll have people looking at SLs who never would have before

This thing would be absolute perfection with an exhaust. But still, $200k is pretty steep.
Buy it used tbh cause These things depreciate pretty hard
The only convertible I’ve ever slightly desired

Mercedes is roasting BMW up in every aspect. Sexy car 😍

As a grandpa, the 2023 Mercedes-AMG SL 63 would be an SL for me.
Ha! But you don't NEED to be a grandpa to appreciate this one, Hector 😉
I've noticed more have gone back to a column shifter location. So I've own my vehicle long enough to where column shifts are cool again lol
Beautiful car, beautiful review thanks watching from Africa!!!

Personally I think SL is a let down - should of been a 2 seater and come with a hard top

such a great review! how do you think it compares to a Ferrari Roma?
14:00 that sounds incredible
The only thing i´m not understand from Mercedes is, if you want so much money from this car, why you put the HP so much down from this V8 TT engine?
Are you secretly working at Javier's as a Valet so you can do these reviews Ferris Bueller style? :)
😂 don't tell anyone!
Mercedes benz is king
Jesus is king
13:54 whyyyy is there a honda behind every tesla!! Like made for each other lol
200k for a SL is a little too much i feel like
I don't understand why they make the engine less powerful than on the GT63S, while also not offering a SL63S model.
Because they offer a 63s e-performance which is their hybrid and ludicrously fast.
For me, the 2023 the Mercedes Benz AMG SL63 doesn't do enough to remove me from the BMW M8 Competition Cabriolet.
Hence, I shall still choose the BMW M8 Competition Cabriolet over the Mercedes Benz AMG SL63.
Looks like a mustang from the side the m8 convertible doesn’t look nearly as special as this car
I would choose a lc500 convertible. I know it’s not as fast or powerful but the overall of that car is good for me!
And cheaper especially on the used market.
Good choice but the Lc500 doesnt even come close to this, the 911 Turbo or the M8, it’s more of a M850i, 911 Base competitor

nope

How you like it compared to the m4 convertible?
Infotainment screen looks stuck on
This is because you can adjust the angle.
At 2:30, I see 911 elements.
Not really Mercedes has been making the SL-class like that since 1952, way before the 911. Short back and long nose
