I would have never even considered buying this until your review. Now I do desperately want it, because it is 1000x cleverer than I ever expected it to be.
My dad repaired old retro stuff like this and I was waiting for this review all my life !!! Now I am getting one for him, no wait two, one for him and one for me.
Contraption with orange and white balls represent tuning light (magic eye tube) found on old radios, which is a light that its brightness increases when a successful tuning is achieved. In here, similar function used for tuning the sound brick itself.
Thanks to your detailed review this set just transformed from "how boring, yet another 1:1 scale household item that nobody needs made of LEGO" to "Such wow, many functions, very building techniques, much Technic, so affordable". :D
Me too! When I first saw it, I thought "I'm not going to buy this." But after watching your review, I quite want to buy it, and I also want a sound brick in my collection!
I'm already thinking of ways you could add a bluetooth speaker in it or even a real transistor radio. Removing the sound brick gives space for a speaker and the smartphone slot would be space for a circuit board. Kits for either can be easily found online, it would just be a challenge making them work with the knobs. You'd have to run a piece of string from the front dial to the tuner inside. A good quality radio kit should even have adjustments to make the Lego dial work accurately.
@@inkermoy Yeah, but that's too easy and no fun. Turning it into a real radio would be more impressive. Jamie's Lego Jams could do it, might pop him a vid suggestion.
I can see many people putting a bluetooth speaker (like the JBL Go type) inside it, and make it a cool speaker :). Nice one! Thanks Balazs for showing us!
All that details are mind blowing! Greatest Respect to the Designer(s)! If we see any rebrick attempts for this set you surely can expect many of them to be super wild creations! Very lovable set!❤
Thank you for the review RacingBrick! This looks like an exciting set I wasn’t expecting. I will definitely get it, it should be a excellent gift for my family. My favorite part of this set is that is compatible with a phone. Like you can actually play music from your phone, like how cool is that?!
Really liked this set from the initial reveals. Unique build, fun, and functional, and looks amazing when all assembled and displayed. Price is also great for the parts selection, printed pieces, and additional sound brick. The hard click when switching between channel as it should be white noise or static would be my only complaint but other than that one I'm definitely eager to pick up.
Brilliant review 👏🏽. Thank you for the detailed review and appreciate the effort on the edit - especially showing the clip from the American pick up truck. Lovely touch 👌🏽.
I am super pumped for it since absolutely no set of the past 2 years appealed to me either because of the poor quality and the cheap production like the mclaren mp4/4 or just cause the sets were so boring and overpriced. The countach surely is too but it is a must buy after the speed champs disappointment. If the leak is real, then the countach will be white again which I don't get as the 10295 Porsche was white already and its most popular c model was a countach. No new tires unfortionately but dual tires in the rear which is pretty cool
I'm genuinely tempted to get this and modify it with a small portable speaker and an old Raspberry Pi 3b which is capable of running Volumio, the question is will they fit inside 🤔
With some slight modifications, you could probably even fit some compact bluetooth speakers in there, which seems even more fun to me than a smartphone.
They could just add a functioning FM radio into that, instead of bothering with a soundbrick. Or even BT speaker, mp3 player, SD card reader, you name it. Those things cost next to nothing nowadays. You could even prepare a mixtape of someone's favorite songs on an SD card, and package it as a gift.
This looks like an absolutely fantastic and entertaining build experience--very little repetition, and lots of clever and advanced build techniques! 😊 Edit: Can't wait to see someone substitute the Harry Potter Sorting Hat sound brick! 😂
Great review! Not that I need another Lego set, but damn you make a convincing salesman. It's a bit before my time in style, but would fit nice on my mantle next to my Lego Ship In A Bottle. Just need to find a good bluetooth speaker that will fit in there.
For me and my generation, growing up in the 80s, an iconic Ghettoblaster with "working" casettes would have been a better choice I guess. I'm wondering how many people have nostalgic feelings about this, but I'm happy for anybody, who enjoys this set.
So is the crucial roller skate piece acting as stopper for the tow ball connected to the blue half pin, underneath the on-off switch? Thx for the detailed video as always!
Ok, now we need a community modification so that when a phone is in it and we change the frequency, it doesn't activate the sound brick, but rather pushes the Prev/Next touch controls on the phone's Spotify interface. Same goes for On/Off hitting Play/Pause obviously. ... And before anyone says it: I know how capacitive sensing works. But some rubber-wire-rubber combination might still be possible. :D
Hello Balázs, good presentation as asual. I commented here to know your thought on the creation of this set. I have seen a very similar model on lego ideas reaching 10000 votes and it wasn't approved. However lego releases this set with a very close idea. Do you find it disrespectful toward the people who suggested the same idea ? Thanks
I was thinking about mentioning this in the video, but it was already pretty long, and several new sets nowadays have a rejected equivalent on Ideas, so I don't think it should be brought up every time. This set had a concept model already 2 years ago, and the actual development also took about a year, which means designers were actively working on it while the Ideas set was still gathering votes. Also, the smartphone compatibility was part of the concept from the beginning, the Ideas project had that added in its second round which only started this year, when this model was already finished and in production.
@@RacingBrickThank you for answering. Yes, I forgot that the function with the phone came only for the second attempt. There is another idea that was from 2021 with also a pretty cool system for the button and with the option to include a Bluetooth speaker. But I agree with you that the designer build is vastly different and the mecanism is pretty cool.
I like it but its mostly decorative until you put a speaker in it (stil nice set) ive not been intressted in a lot of lego sets until i saw this one. maybe maybe i want it.
Not if they are icons of their genre. If Lego produced multiple radios that aren’t considered iconic in the Icons sub theme then it would be meaningless. That radio is an iconic design.
Dear Mr RacingBrick will you do the new Lego city Mobile Crane Lego set number 60409 And Lego city excavator set number 60420 Big fan can’t wait to see the rocket and the other LEGO set
That is significantly cooler than I thought it would be
I would have never even considered buying this until your review. Now I do desperately want it, because it is 1000x cleverer than I ever expected it to be.
8:30 IT PLAYS EVERYTHING IS AWESOME 😊
I'd rather listen to Pink Floyd's "Another Brick in the Wall"...

I love the mechanical click. Makes it feel analog and robust
The building experience looks great!
A radio now? Loving it!

I think a good small bluetooth speaker with sleep mode and activated by your phone is good enough. just need a hole in the back for a power cord.
@@inkermoy Yeah, but that's too easy and no fun. Turning it into a real radio would be more impressive.

I’m very impressed by the building experience! Also love the shade of blue they chose for the main color.
11:55 “in order not to break the budget” lmao 😂
the lightbrick is some Happy Meal toy electronics at best
Did not expect the functionality. Very cool set

That's nice. I'll have to add that to my collection. As always, your builds and opinions are greatly appreciated.
Bought it today! And the Ikea Eneby Bluetooth speaker fits perfectly without interference!
Awesome set. Harmonious clever mixture of technic and system is where Lego's at, imho

Whow. This is a great set! Must buy.
YOU ARE THE BEST!! RACINGBRICK ROCKS!!❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
This is a super cool set! Have you heard about the new icons countache that is rumored to come out?
oooohhh thats so hype! if the speed champions one was incredible, i can just imagine the icons :D

I’m in! Great review. As a lover of both music and LEGO this one is no brainer.
One serious YT playlist you've got there! Unexpected? Highly recommended! : )

Come on Lego how about doing a old-school boombox like the Hitachi & Sharp one's back in the 80's

Machine Head, good taste!
Even better, Machine Head covering Iron Maiden!
Amaizing, it looks fun. I like the color also.
Machine Head out a cute joyful retro radio. Love it.
Ayreon there with everybody dies. Nice.
And I saw Anneke on the Heavy Strings tour yesterday 🤘
@@RacingBrick I am jealous. She has a wonderful voice.
I’m waiting for “Held der Steine” to review it 😁
Only thing missing is a light at the glass part
What a strange, but cool set. The building process is very interesting compared to most system sets
I was trying to figure out where I saw that Lego logo tile before and you answered it here

You could probably remove some of the phone-holdy bits from the rear compartment and hide an Echo Dot in there to make the radio pretty functional.

its splurging season tonight baby
This is amazing for to be converted in a bluetooth speaker 😎
Very cool design. Except: I wish FM/AM scale print has no gap.
This thing is seriously better built than my actual vintage radio! That thing has a long looping string on pulleys for the frequency selection 🫣
It’s a shame the power switch doesn’t press a light brick to really show off the moving parts. Could be a fun mod.
Very cool! Thank you for sharing! What radio is that you show your Daughter has, looks nice!

Is it just me... or is the tuning dial's movement reversed?
So is the crucial roller skate piece acting as stopper for the tow ball connected to the blue half pin, underneath the on-off switch? Thx for the detailed video as always!
This looks awesome. Would a Google Nest Mini fit in it? That would make it a cool and functional item.
So the ball mechanism inside presses the sounbrick
yep
Although I would never buy this set, I recognise it is really cool
We now need "bluetooth brick". It would replace sound brick, and would just change song on smartphone Spotify/apple music.
Any idea what maximum thickness phone can be accommodated? I really like your reviews!
Nice model. My only complaint is the dial moves opposite to the direction it should, they needed to add a second gear to reverse that.
Maybe reverse the tan gear to the opposite side of the driving gear.
Wish they had an 80’s cassette player Boom Box!
nice build that space for the phone could you put a Bluetooth speaker in there instead of your phone just an idea
Amazing set!

Hello
I put a JBL Bluetooth speaker in the back of the radio. It fits nicely and I can control the music from my iphone
it was a missed opportunity for Lego to not include a sound brick like this in the pac man set
I like it but its mostly decorative until you put a speaker in it (stil nice set) ive not been intressted in a lot of lego sets until i saw this one. maybe maybe i want it.
Cute! It only lacks a printed circuit board!
The term Icon is meaningless if everything is an icon.
They should do Lego icons for just the old set remakes like the galaxy explorer and lion knights castle
It replaces the creator logo. It’s a big umbrella term now.
Not if they are icons of their genre. If Lego produced multiple radios that aren’t considered iconic in the Icons sub theme then it would be meaningless. That radio is an iconic design.
Icons is just a collection of everything 18+ nowadays, honestly I think it should be split to subthemes.
Obviously everything is icon if they only make iconic products
so cool

How many different colors do you want to put in a Lego set?
Lego: All of them
It doesn't have as many. Btw, did you ever see the internals of a transistor radio?
Thanks!
Thank you!
Do you think a Google nest mini speaker could fit inside?
Literal blast of a Lego set
all paper bags!!! finally!
7:58 so… turning the frequency knob clockwise, shifts the dial to the left??
😅
650 Insider Points mean, that Lego values it at 65$, right?
that soundbrick could be an MFDOOM sample
