Unfuckingbelievable. I guess it's a fitting end to the career of one of the most criminally underutilized soldiers this channel has ever seen. Man, and when you were FINALLY figuring out how powerful she could be. And the new guy, too, I guess.
agree on both points (her being underutilized and fitting end). she was brilliant - besides that close combat ability being bugged - both before AND after the re-do.
Well, that’s a gut punch. Easy to criticise but hindsight is 20/20 though I do understand the criticism about not trying to stun the legate. And thank you to everyone who had the thoughtfulness to leave a spoiler tag in their comment. It is appreciated.
Yeah, I thought to answer in here to also show appreciation for people leaving a spoiler tag. 😁 It's kind of a big part of my "viewer religion" and find it hard to digest when someone doesn't and I end up braking one of my own commandments! 🤣
Not to rub salt in the wound, but this isn't the first time you've canceled suppression with falling units in this campaign. Its happened to you in the last couple episodes, you've done it to enemies previously both canceling their suppression and cancelling your own on them. Sometimes you gotta learn the lesson the hard way.
I think we've seen this before this season, on a facility mission, IIRC. Falling meaning the unit has moved from the suppressed spot and therefore cancelling it. A rare enough occurrence that it can be hard to remember and so always sneaks up on you as a bad surprise. With a really devastating effect this time...
I wonder how many grenades Legate has. Perhaps its worth considering to use abilities that detonate his grenades on him, so he cannot use those against you.
Even if the suppression hadn't been cancelled, I think it still fires those two AOEs, so don't beat yourself up over it too much - the only way you could have prevented it (imo) would have been spreading Duchess and Whisper out more, but that Elite Lancer surviving as long as he did really gimped your initial plan
Yeah, he had disabling shot and the arc thrower available. With a bit of luck he could have stunned it for up to 5 actions, and forced a reload as the first action had it surviced long enough to even take an action.
@@SaturnusDK Wait, they can? I thought for sure stuns fell under "mental impairment" okay, yikes. I still personally can't blame Odd for reading that F1 text block and assuming mental impairment would prevent stuns, but I take the point
If the bot suppressed as well it'd be -150 aim tho, even a flanked shot was likely to miss. Looking at the damage, the Legate managed to deal precisely 22 dmg in that turn so if it didn't crit duchess would've lived.
@@ericbanks7375maybe none of us, but would suppression have done anything versus those aoe attacks? My read of the legate is the necessary tactics are stay away from it, stay away from the rest of the squad.
@@jwbaker No, I think that you would have had to stun the legate to avoid/minimize the AoE attacks. However, it may have given Duchess a chance on that final shot, which was a 100% to hit, 77% to crit, depending on how much aim reduction double suppression grants. Alternatively, run everyone back except 'zotz and let Pop sniper the thing until its HP less than 50%, then bring in the squad to finish it off.

Thinking about where it went wrong, I think putting the RAGE suit on 'Whisper' was the first mistake. The other uh.... problems kind of followed from that. No RAGE suit on 'Whisper', no close encounter with the lancer, no easy group target for the legate. Maybe just leave melee attacking to soldiers buit specifically for the job, not inheriting it from a piece of equipment. So it goes.
Hiya, Odd. Completely off topic, but I got to wondering if you watch the PWHL at all, and if you have a favorite team. I never had any interest in hockey but after watching just a couple of games I've become a huge Montréal Victoire fan. Oh, and uh, my condolences for that catastrophic loss of a great soldier. And that other guy.
I maintain that top tear requiem units are bs. That's still not the worst case. Worst case - you do a bad activation. One legate/mechapeade can squadwipe you. This game is made assuming you sometimes do a mistake. You shouldn't be punished this much for a tiny misstep.
Odd kinda believes putting a unit in full cover makes it near invulnerable. And he didn't even consider the legate could really easily remove that cover. That's what not reading unit abilities does to you.
You don’t need to kill things once you’ve destroyed the transmitter. You can just leave and still win the mission (you just don’t get corpse salvage) PS, how do you keep your game uncorrupted? The games I play (using exact same mods as yours) always get corrupted by the psi gate. I’ve done all the obvious things
Both love and hate how busted these classes have been this campaign, especially with some of the buggy interactions with some of the abilities. Even though I've kinda been switched off for awhile now because of it unfortunately, I'm still watching these, they are still good vids, I just don't really care for the classes anymore. Requiem does a good job making things spicy (Legates are scary asf), minus a couple of uh bugs like we just saw lol, but some of these soldiers man, idk, some of them almost trivialize a bunch of the missions. That's not to take away from the fact that Chris is an absolute beast at this game, I guess I just prefer the simpler times, with Proficiency classes. I wonder if we'll get a season 10, nice round number right? 200 episodes?!

I love XCom 2. None of it makes sense. The relay is in an abandoned area, is way to big for its use, and takes way too long to transmit. "We're from another star system but we haven't worked out wifi or proper curved roads" You could skin the game in Steampunk and it would make more sense.
Honestly, this was just a lazy mission but please recap what you can actually do to enemies before facing them. Legates can be stunned and you had multiple ways to do so. I'm frankly shocked at how poor this mission was executed. Thankfully, there were fatalities so the lesson might be learned.

Caron: If we didn’t lose the Legate, I may be inclined to support your belief that we took acceptable losses. However, we did lose the Legate, so therefore, you are wrong.
…
You complete and utter puppet. Legates are commanding officers in the Requiem Legion and this particular one was heading up counterinsurgency operations against XCOM.
…
The two operatives that got killed were overconfident and bunched up. The Legate took advantage of this and dealt with them. The remaining XCOM operatives were quick to avenge their comrades.
…
The only good news is that we managed to neutralise one of XCOM's psionically capable operatives. That will be one less thing to worry about.

I think you are getting bored after you've solved all the puzzles of the mods. When you've played like this it is also getting hard to watch.
I feel like suppression getting removed like that is a bug in the game or base something. There's no way that should take away suppression
Suppression is on a single tile - when he falls, he is no longer on the tile - it isn't technically tied to a "unit" in that way.
I love XCom 2.
None of it makes sense.
The relay is in an abandoned area, is way to big for its use, and takes way too long to transmit. Whatever useless info it's sending must be a petabyte's worth and going to the moon.
"We're from another star system but we haven't worked out wifi or proper curved roads"
You could skin the game in Steampunk and it would make more sense.

Lego Masters Australia is another good show. First 4 seasons on Tubi
Honestly, this was just a lazy mission but please recap what you can actually do to enemies before facing them. Legates can be stunned and you had multiple ways to do so. I'm frankly shocked at how poor this mission was executed. Thankfully, there were fatalities so the lesson might be learned.
