That one bit in his transformation sequence where the truck cab rears up triumphantly and then flops down with an audible clank like "fuck it", is the most emotive sequence in all five films and outweighs all human character scenes combined.

Seeing Megatron go from the monstrous brute of death incarnate in the first movie to the broken down mess he is in DoTM is quite a journey. I wish the had kept him as Galvatron in the Last Knight because the fourth movie restored a lot of his honor as the leader of this new group of powerful decepticons that would have won if not for the intervention of the Dinobots. In that movie he leaves defeated, but not dead or broken like he did in the movies before.

@@Chaos__64 The credits song to Dark of the Moon is Iridescent, by Linkin Park. It includes the lyrics "Do you feel cold, and lost in desperation
?" Chester Bennington, who sang Iridescent, committed suicide in 2017. Basically, Thew is saying that it's a pretty forlorn song that furthers the general feel in Dark of the Moon as a much sadder ending than it seems it was intended to be.

I like the fact that in ten minutes of talking about a toy, Thew has put infinitely more thought and analysis into Megatron's character and design than Michael Bay et al probably did in five feature-length movies.

Seeing this review makes me want "Logan"-styled solo movie about Megatron.
I'm down for "Monthly Megatron!" Great idea. I suspect that you put a lot more thought into movie Megatron's character arc then Bay and company did. Though I don't think that this is quite his lowest point, rather the aftermath of it. The lowest was at the end of Revenge of the Fallen, when Optimus simply bitch slaps him away so he can go one on one against The Fallen, as if to say: "Go to your room junior, mommy and daddy have grown up business to talk about." Maiming him and brushing him aside as irrelevant to the final outcome of the war, and Starscream has to encourage him to run away. Talk about humiliation.
No joke, I would love a Megatron inspired by this design in a post-apocalyptic Transformers universe. Probably the same hellscape of ghost towns and scattered survivors and zombie hordes as Prime Dead End and DOTM Cyberfire Bumblebee.

This almost became a Thew review of the Bayfilms, and I'm content with what he's given us. Great review of a toy I'm glad I have no affinity for. (50 bucks is useful to have)
Lol that part where he zoomed on his face as that douche went on about the statutory minor bullshit had me almost spit-take my beer!
In the DOTM book, Megs had a change of heart, and it was where the Bayfromers saga (then trilogy) should have ended. Great book.

This was quite a review. An interesting figure with tons of good talking points, a contemplation about how Megatron was oddly the most tragic character of DOTM, and even a good Dark Souls joke. It's no wonder I've been watching since 2012.
Personally, I would love to see the Africa hideout scene redone with Thew's dialogue added along with the proper body expressions to complement the dialogue. It would be hilarious as heck.

I like it even though the hollow cab syndrome is kind of a pain in the ass.
It’s one of the weaker SS leaders but still a pretty fun figure. Has some great shelf presence.

The end of Dark of the Moon is why I prefer the book’s ending where he and kneels to give Optimus the option of killing him, only to let him go back to Cybertron and try to restore it

@@jangofett23 I think it was in the regular adult novelization as well where Megatron offers to let Optimus kill him if it'll bring the war to an end and Optimus instead accepts his truce and both go their separate ways. It was probably from an earlier draft of the movie which leads me to think they were originally gonna end the series there.
@@Webshooters1 maybe it was that. All I know is I liked the book version ending more. And honestly? I think ending at Dark of the Moon would’ve been for the better. Age of Extinction was okay, but I’m not the biggest fan of The Last Knight
@@Webshooters1 It was the original ending for the movie, but the book was being released first so the Studio had them change it. Which is why the movie kind of feels like it just suddenly ends.

I'm too lazy to go look it up, but I remember reading an amazing thinkpiece somewhere about how, intentionally or not, Megatron was the *real* hero of the Bay films. And also the truck from "Duel".

There's loads of Decepticons that are like that as well. Most of the late G1 Cyan and Purple guys are like that, barring Mindwipe and Slugslinger.

Compare to Transformers Last knight the films before are bloody masterpieces. Seriously The last knight is like really long boring prolog with unsatisfying end and too many humans.

Ah, I miss Armada. Wait, no no, I don't. But I'd prefer it on the big screen to Bayformers at this point.
Armarda was pretty good...after episode 20 or so.
I always thought on Scavenger's cloak to be kind of weird and unlogical if you think about his shoulders, they're too tall to handle the cloak as seen in the anime, just try to replicate that with the toy.

(seriously, his design was great and M.B. just said "Yeah, you know this really cool character everyone loves? Yeah, the one designed as faithfully to his original form. Let's kill him in the most brutal fashion possible.") And the minute Megatron has a really unique design and character they give him the Jazz treatment...

This version is by far my favorite form of Megatron, he gives me a hunter vibe just looking at him. And I must say TLk Megatron is also awesome, but I love this form. I would say it's a stalemate between which form I love most. Also I like the voyager side one, and I have no shame in it
I remember when I was younger, DOTM Megatron’s design was always my favorite, if only because I was a sucker for the whole “damaged wanderer” look for the robot mode, and the vehicle mode was a very fitting truck mode.
I was having a bad day.
So now I get to see someone review the plastic manifestation of a bad day.

2:43 The best thing about this Megatron, besides the poncho, is that he's half-inched Optimus's Truck mode.
When he showed his interpretation of that scene how he remembered it Starscream and sound waves voice really made me laugh as a matter of fact all their voices made me laugh XD
I always felt Megs was wearing the clothes to keep sand out of his exposed head wound. Or even vanity. Like Doom, hiding his weakness from the world.
*There's actually a fan theory that the little noggin with legs is actually what's LEFT of Long Haul.. Meg's took his head & Spark & used that Minicon he wanted to use to pull out Sam's brain to build that little fella..*

The part on the shins where it all pegs together; it works so much better if you very, very carefully cut that hole so it goes all the way through. Much better grip on the peg. Holds everything together better.
KInda wish they gave Megatron a full blown arc where he's so mad at Sentinel that he (And Soundwave+Laserbeak) decide to help the Autobots liberate Chicago out of spite.
Add Starscream and Shockwave and then it would be pretty amazing

Just finally watched this review, and the clips from Dark of the moon....I know I rewatched that not two years ago during my "Bayverse Top Surgery Marathon" but I must have been dissociating harder than I thought because not a single memory of any of that, is in any of my brain files.

Yeah I recently got one of these for Christmas! He's so much fun. But I felt like, What's up with having an actual cloth poncho but those lame pho chains. I when I put them on his vehicle mode it tends to pull apart the panels.

I mainly love this toy not because of what it represents in the movies but what it represents to my imagination.
The original Voyager DOTM Megatron was my favorite when I was a kid. I didn't have a Galvatron, so that one became Galvatron. I loved the truck mode and lost the cowl. This thing serves as a replacement for those memories in my modern collection, and I really love the way it changes size and becomes and enormous truck.

Great review. Really liked your perspective on it. Even made me think again if I want it or not but I'm satisfied with my (pretty likely KO) DotM Voyager Megs (KO because imported from China and the hood and bumper part hinges are pretty messed up).
