  • Roman De Peralta is a musician from the island of O’ahu. He is a singer, songwriter, and frontman of the ultra popular group Kolohe Kai which is a local Hawaiian reggae band. In 2009 they broke out on the music scene with an array of original songs like “Ehu Girl”, “Cool Down”, and “First True Love” which today have over 100 millions streams. Their popularity has been undeniable as they have been one of Hawaii’s #1 most streamed reggae artist of the past decade with over 1 million monthly listeners on Spotify. In this episode we talk about his musical inspiration, the start of Kolohe Kai, his mission abroad, mental health, how he met his wife, future goals, and so much more. Enjoy!

    Mahalo for being so open about mental health. I’m a therapist and I’m so grateful when people share their struggles because it normalizes mental health; we all wrestle with something at some point in our life. There is also strength in vulnerability. 🌺🤙🏼❤️

    Awesome that Roman mentioned Guam!! As a Guamanian who loves Hawaiian Reggae, ever since it was called Jawaiian (yeah, I’m old😂); really appreciate that. Have been to a Kolohe Kai concert in Saipan…freakin unbelievable show!! Have been to many other concerts by Hawaiian groups. Great pod! 🤙🏽🇬🇺🇲🇵

    Alot of kids from New Zealand love kolohe kai to this day

    Got to know who Roman is through American Idol and Iam Tongi! Loved listening to this and getting to know him better! He shows alot of humility and authenticity. His wife is beautiful and I loved them singing together. Thanks for sharing your aloha Roman and for the Keep it Aloha podcast for this! ❤️ Hopefully I can see him in concert one day!

      They say, "it takes a village to raise a child" he must have had an entire community of people in his life that provided for and interacted positively for him to grow in a safe and healthy environment. Hence, the way he speaks. 💪🏽🤙🏽
