Roman's story about Round and Round really resonated with me. I'm there right now, and it helps to think of things being impermanent. Because sometimes it seems like forever is too long. ❤
I had the privilege of visiting the Big Island 10 years ago. It was life changing. Hooked on the island jams and the felt the amazing Aloha spirit of the people.
Was rooting for Iam from day one and lost it when he sang Cool Down. I also hope with a win for Hawaii, it leads to understanding and respect for the history of the natives and how the islands came to be part of the US. 🤙🏽✊🏽🌺

Im not even a islander by blood but mahn raised on the island even if for 14 years was enough for me to Soooo appreciate all those artists because the connection with spirit and love.

I don’t think another hometown song would have worked as well for Iam as “Cool Down” did. It didn’t matter if the song wasn’t as well known outside of Hawaii - I grew up on old(er) school local music like Kalapana and C&K so I wasn’t familiar with the song myself before Iam’s performance. But because Iam is a great storyteller, he turned the competition into a party/concert for the song’s duration. His bringing island music along for the ride was like a breath of fresh air to the show.

It sure was like watching an Iam Tongi concert. I never knew any of these songs but the performances were EPIC. He could not have picked better songs. And this guy Roman, such a nice person. The "local" celebrities are all big stars in their own right, and still supporting and loving. We need more of that in the world. I hope Iam can bring them all together again for some special concert. And please stream that worldwide. Crazy how sometimes people just don't get to know about these great artists.
Iam won because he did stick to his routes. We love him and his Hawaiian soul. From Texas. We want more from all of you!!

Wow, Lina Girl, this was a fantastic interview with all the photos and videos to tell Roman's story. There was so much stuff I neva know, especially about the hard times, but it's really great to see how Roman has picked himself up with a lot of help from those who care about him, and now so many wonderful things are happening for him as he deserves. I know you've got to share this with Iam, and I truly hope there will be an Iam-Roman collaboration soon, if not in the recording studio, at least on stage together. Will Roman be away when Iam comes for his concert in Hawai'i on July 2? I'm also going to share this interview with all the people I've gotten to know online who were following Iam on his American Idol journey, especially the YT creators who reacted to Iam's videos and got turned on to "Island Vibe" and the music and musicians Iam grew up listening to and playing, and they are now looking for and reacting to more music from Hawai'i and the other Pacific Islands. Many of them have become big fans of "Cool Down" and Kolohe Kai, so they'll love this interview, too!

@@charmainep1602 I have to wait till they do it in Hawai'i, but probably won't be able to get tickets. No good large venues now except for the Waikiki Shell, and that's going under construction soon, too.
