Hi Luke , nice show of backbone ! I love your videos. Your "get it done, whatever it takes attitude is something missing nowadays in far too many folks. You earned your spot guy. Your determination to succeed, whatever it takes, is very admirable. Keep on pushing Luke. YOU are a perfect example of the true American sprit!
As someone who is retired at 55. You'll make it. You have the drive and passion to make it work. Find your way to push through and but also when to pivot.
My best friend was a commercial crabber here, he moved to Snead's Ferry NC and they only have to take their pots out of the water down there in January. Not to mention the cost of living down there is way cheaper!
Get your pvc at a plumbing or HVAC supply house, and it will cost less and be far less likely to be old and brittle, as it has a much higher turnover there.
Don't know if anyone has said or not, if so over look it. That axle set up is what is known as dayton hubs. Dayton hubs are stronger, but scare a lot of people off since they can be dangerous since tires do fall off if stuff isn't checked. But perfect for what you need. That being said an old farmers trick of tightening them up, sit a drink can on the ground at the bottom sidewall edge of the tire and spin it and slowly tighten the lugs all the way around. If it hits you have one side further out and it will wobble going down the road.
when drilling brittle plastic i always use a twist bit in reverse and let the friction melt through. it's slower but i haven't had a single break that way. after that i just put the drill bit in forward for bit to take out the burs.
💯 all the way Luke! I use 5 gallon buckets for basic tools. Keep a couple of buckets around with an assortment of basic tools of the trade. Drill some small hole in the bottom to let out tain water. Spray it down with some WD40 on occasion for rust prevention.
Your a very talented young man. You can fix it all. Not many ppl around that can do that. Your a hard worker. I wish you luck you can start your crabbing season soon.
When doing vinyl siding, we cut it with a reversed circular saw blade. Try and run your drill in reverse so as to melt your way through the PVC. It's worth a try.
I think I get why you run your own business and don't work as just a crab fisherman, and it's not just because of the money. You know you can make the decisions that will improve you and your crew's success and grow your business. That's a harder battle and not as worth it when you're just a number working on a crew. Please keep doing what you're doing. The world needs more leaders who get their hands dirty, help each other, and know that we should be working towards the same goal together. This applies to everything in life. Love seeing your ingenuity, engineering, and accidental multitasking. From an IT analyst with a mechanical engineering degree :)
Love the channel! Keep up the grind! Pro tip on bearing grease: dab a bunch of grease on your palm, slap the bearing on edge into the grease. It will force it through the race and cage. Works great!
you have me vested, I always feel like im pulling for you as the guy who cant win at anything, but stays positive. You really could have your own reality show, and id watch it
Don’t worry Luke, you’ll get it all done before the crabs show up. The scenes with the truck hood brought tears to my eyes I was laughing so hard. Try looking in the middle of the hood, use a flat head screwdriver and pop the latch, hoods open…😂😂😂
2 things.... On the Tundra, reach through the door jam and lightly bang on the hood as you're pulling the hood release. Common trick that works most times. On the trailer, the bearings should be assembled in the drum with a "new seal" (if you want it to last) then installed back on the hub. Hope that helps. By the way, I have followed you for quite a while now and I must say you have an extraordinary way of getting things done "just" well enough to function.. Enjoy the journey and don't stop giving the "haters" crap to talk about... I'm curious to see what love letters are left on your buoys at the end of this season... lol
Your supposed to true that trailer here up luke, use a block of wood or a hammer head or a drink bottle and tighten or loosen the wheel nuts depending on if the wheel needs to go in or out to straighten so it doesn’t wobble down the road and prematurely wear the tyre out of shape unevenly 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
So although I 100% approve of your bearing packing method, I seem to be compelled to tell you how to do something .. lol. The bearing cap should be filled with grease. This is handy in the off chance the bearing heats up for some absurd reason, the heat will melt the grease and it will run into the the actual bearing before it disintegrates and the flaming wheel rolls off into woods and causes a forest fire or burns someone’s house down. (Disclaimer I was never there and have a solid alibi)
I’m not a crab fisherman or really a fisherman generally lol but instead of pvc for the floats, try using the back poly irrigation tubing. It’s flexible and will bend instead of cracking. You can get it in purple too so it adds a little flare while being more impact resistant. 👍
I cant speak for everyone but if u have to take a break from YT to support the crabbing I'd completely be fine with it and will support ya. I Think it would be interesting to watch a complete livestream of u out crabbing , that way u dont have to worry about editing and it can just be you doing ur life and job , u can also dual stream it on twitch or facebook whatever u like
That being said. They wont rust until the paint is gone. And electrolysis is a funny thing. As long as the zinc is directly contacting the metal it will work. Covering them both shouldnt be bad
Bubba.. You had me cracking up. Lol. Keep on doing what you are doing. You seem like a hard worker and funny as hell. You are a true American. Don’t let others try to put you down. There are some ruthless assholes out there. Good luck with your crab fishing.
Thinking about hawk, that pipe could possibly cut the rope over time as it's bobbing. Also I wonder if that fiberglass rebar would hold up better then PVC.
@LukeMcFadden When you're drilling PVC, use one of those step drill bits. I've found the Irwin fo best. I used to have to drill acrylic tube when I worked for a company up in Arbutus. The old heads would tell me I needed their magic plastic bit, I showed them that using a step but worked 10x better as they used to crack the tubes a bunch.
Those wheels on the trailer can be tricky to align. For a couple of blocks should be fine. Any farther i would suggest looking up how to put on wheels on Dayton hubs.
We used to build boat docks. The bottom was painted with aluminum oxide primer then covered in cold tar. We painted the top with Imron until the EPA made that stuff illegal (with good reason).
Professional Painter Here. I never really though about what they use to paint crab pots. I started to do some research and seen it's a water base paint. Wouldn't it no be easier to tarp them up where they sit and just use a sprayer to spray all the crab pots?
Love to watch your videos. Good luck crabbing this year Luke. I’ll be sure to make my way up to your new boat crab shack to buy some crabs this year. GET TO WORK!
One thing that will hugely help you out and make things easier, invest in a tool box for the boat, the home, the truck, storage lot, not having to track down tools and having everything you need in a moments notice is honestly a game changer
Definitely! Exactly the same setup of tools in each box/bag. Heck you probably have 2-3 sets of most things laying around already, scattered around. Ask one of your deckhands or your wife to organize this project. Learning to delegate is the toughest part of learning to be a leader. And delegation is also one of the signs of an effective leader.
Had a similar problem with my hood release. Pull out your seat belt, pull it through the steering wheel and put it around the hood release. Go around and lift up the hood.
You might wanna try a running hitch(?) instead of a clove hitch on your buoys. They sinch up pretty nicely. We use them to moore our boats on a running line in AK.
Also, if you are ever up on Kodiak Island and want to see how a really bare bones set net salmon fishing site is ran get ahold of me. I don’t make a bunch of money but I do get to fish/drink beer a lot. Hahaha. Good luck this season!!!!

I follow you on tiktok (originally) but am glad you have been putting out youtube content. I prefer your youtube content. Thanks for the entertainment. Keep grinding man.
You could always use a hole saw bit for pvc, yes the pattle bit is easier to stick and go, but that extra time does make the quality better. But i get it, they get ran over anyways. Im curious to see if you can reach out to sea food restaurants and offer to sell them "fresh local crabs" and im pretty sure most of them would rather buy from you than have them imported, shipped. Ect. just a thought, keep up the great work!!!
Born in Maryland ,spent most of my life in the area, really miss they Bay Area and the Red Eye. Yellow paint I hear attracts more crab 🤷♂️ Thanks for the Memories of the area
Supposed to be a seal behind that bearing. Put the bearing and seal in the hub first then put both on the spindle 👍. Will probably be good enough for a couple years anyway! Great content!
you should get a few electrical conduit pipe clamps with a hole drilled in center as a guide hole screwed down a board 8 inches apart and slide your plastic pvc pipe thru then drill a hole slide on to next spot to drill..makes it easier to hold that rond pvc pipe from flopping around..
I’ve recently found this channel and immediately sub’d then watched every upload. Now, I regret that because I find myself wanting to see what’s next 😂 Keep moving forward Luke I’m buying from you this year 💯
They arent running heavy up here in North Carolina,,,yet !!. Lol ..last year crab house stopped selling by the bushell...and tried charging 45$ a damn dozen !!.. of #3s!!.. CRAZY !!.. hooe you have a good year
Use conduit instead of PVC , it's a little more expensive, but I bet if you go to an electricians warehouse, and buy bulk, it will probably come out close to equal. The conduit holds up thousand times better. I use to run a lobster boat outta NJ, and thats what I found out works thr best. And the conduit you can also heat up with a heat gun and bend etc.

Love your channel , best of luck to you and Lyndsay
Yeah...I'ma dork/geek - @ 13:20 - love the heavy drop cord for your saw. VERY commonly overlooked method of not wasting time...fewer breaker resets, less wear on the tool...all that stuff! Keep up the great content, @Luke McFadden!
A tip for staying organized when you are busy and get easily distracted. Keep sticky notes in your truck and write stuff down at the end of the week if you didnt get all that stuff done prioritize it in a list. Im just like you and that helps me alot!
Not going to lie, the little messages the other grabbers left you really really got my blood boiling....this is America and all are welcome so long as they came over legally. We all love you bro so keep crabbing and bringing us videos we got your back!
Looking forward to this season can’t wait for next episode. Your work ethic is off the charts!!! Thank you
My best friend was a commercial crabber here, he moved to Snead's Ferry NC and they only have to take their pots out of the water down there in January. Not to mention the cost of living down there is way cheaper!
Get your pvc at a plumbing or HVAC supply house, and it will cost less and be far less likely to be old and brittle, as it has a much higher turnover there.
Keep grinding kiddo!! You belong here!!
Love your attitude towards those “special” hawks.
You're my hero, the last 5 minutes is a page straight out of my screen play!
Thanks for the show Luke 🍻
Your a very talented young man. You can fix it all. Not many ppl around that can do that.
Your a hard worker.
I wish you luck you can start your crabbing season soon.
Its a free country for now. Had me rolln. U said that so smooth and slipped in flawlessly.
When doing vinyl siding, we cut it with a reversed circular saw blade. Try and run your drill in reverse so as to melt your way through the PVC. It's worth a try.
Bradpoint drill bits work good on plastic same with step bits.
LOL! "Not so much a question". I Love this kid! Outstanding!
Love the channel! Keep up the grind! Pro tip on bearing grease: dab a bunch of grease on your palm, slap the bearing on edge into the grease. It will force it through the race and cage. Works great!
"I keep this as a reminder... Screw'em"
Fucking wise words right there.
Luke.you’re doing a great job . Thanks for making videos. Very informative and entertaining. 👍
So here I am recovering from surgery and for entertainment instead of watching Netflix I decided to enjoy this channel.
you have me vested, I always feel like im pulling for you as the guy who cant win at anything, but stays positive.
Lil tip Take a fine grit, sandpaper Sand your spendel We'll make it a lot easier to slide bearings on.
Keep grinding, hustling, make that money brother
Always
2 things.... On the Tundra, reach through the door jam and lightly bang on the hood as you're pulling the hood release. Common trick that works most times. On the trailer, the bearings should be assembled in the drum with a "new seal" (if you want it to last) then installed back on the hub. Hope that helps. By the way, I have followed you for quite a while now and I must say you have an extraordinary way of getting things done "just" well enough to function.. Enjoy the journey and don't stop giving the "haters" crap to talk about... I'm curious to see what love letters are left on your buoys at the end of this season... lol
I do love how you call everything a hammer.
Crazy operation. Good stuff
Great video Luke. So much work and you make it look easier than it really is.
Love hearing you and your buddy talk, that is amazing Luke definitely keep those chats in the video 😉
You’ll be stronger this year, don’t worry and grind away
So although I 100% approve of your bearing packing method, I seem to be compelled to tell you how to do something .. lol.
The bearing cap should be filled with grease. This is handy in the off chance the bearing heats up for some absurd reason, the heat will melt the grease and it will run into the the actual bearing before it disintegrates and the flaming wheel rolls off into woods and causes a forest fire or burns someone’s house down.
(Disclaimer I was never there and have a solid alibi)
Man, you are one of a few RUclips content Masters. I love your videos, keep up the good work.😊
I’m not a crab fisherman or really a fisherman generally lol but instead of pvc for the floats, try using the back poly irrigation tubing. It’s flexible and will bend instead of cracking. You can get it in purple too so it adds a little flare while being more impact resistant. 👍
I cant speak for everyone but if u have to take a break from YT to support the crabbing I'd completely be fine with it and will support ya. I Think it would be interesting to watch a complete livestream of u out crabbing , that way u dont have to worry about editing and it can just be you doing ur life and job , u can also dual stream it on twitch or facebook whatever u like
I just found you, and I can say I'll be starting from the beginning love the content man!
Watching you paint all those zincs you spent all the money on is killing me
I was thinking the same exact thing😅😅😅
I was saying same thing like now they won't work
I came to the coments to check on the zink comments
Same
That being said.
One major problem. You should have installed the bearing into the hub and installed a grease seal. Love your video's. Keep up the good work.😊
Luke, you are awesome! I hope you have the best ever crabbing season.
great work but i may recommend doing some of that over winter to lighten your work load in the spring keep maintenance going all year
@LukeMcFadden When you're drilling PVC, use one of those step drill bits.
These last two longer videos are 🔥🔥
Had a similar problem with my hood release. Pull out your seat belt, pull it through the steering wheel and put it around the hood release. Go around and lift up the hood.
On the grease cap on the trailer wheel I recommend adding grease in the cap that way keeps little extra grease in there
You might wanna try a running hitch(?) instead of a clove hitch on your buoys.
Luke you need to sell your crabs threw local CSA's. Community Supported Agriculture. CSA's are a great way to support your local small farmers while getting real, local food produced by people that don't hate you like the government does.
I follow you on tiktok (originally) but am glad you have been putting out youtube content. I prefer your youtube content. Thanks for the entertainment. Keep grinding man.
I really wish for you a 46 foot Markley! Have a great season!
Fair Winds all…..
Definitely glad you are on RUclips and love your channel and your attitude!
Now, I regret that because I find myself wanting to see what’s next 😂
Keep moving forward Luke I’m buying from you this year 💯
Hey Luke , keep after it . I started watching 4 weeks ago and I am going to keep following you . Keep your head up .
