      Well I can say. Is perhaps more also like a History of Metal and to start from the beginning instead of jumping all over the place would be good that way you can see the evolution of metal. I agree not the best song to pick to introduce Iron Maiden. But they are one of the best bands , and without them metal would not be what it is today. Perhaps also check a recent performance from them and compare. They are amazing live now as they were then. Not many bands can fill arenas or stadiums like Maiden does to this day...... Metallica would be one, also Rammstein and maybe Guns n Roses. I can name a few more LOL but is a small group. And at the end of the day is just Awesome you guys are doing it together.

      @Blood Eagle 88 No there not. But you would have to agree that they were highly influential for that sub-genre. Dream Theater thought so and stated so. You can also make the case for Maiden to be an influencer in Melodic Death Metal. Just list to the early albums from In Flames like The Jester Race and Colony. You can't tell me you don't Maiden's influence in their melodies.

      @alexojeda9048 5 лет назад

      @@HellcatM Agreed, but it seems that her definition of Metal is very limited, even by her own admission. It doesn't make her wrong, just uninformed. They need to stick with the "classic" Heavy Metal sub-genre so that she can develop an appreciation for it. She NEEDS to listen to more Maiden as well as Sabbath, Priest, Dio, Motorhead, and Queensryche before going off into other sub-genres. Preferably Power Metal next since it's closely akin to Heavy Metal and then into Thrash Metal since she's shown a liking for it. Also, even though I love Hallowed Be Thy Name, I disagree with the choice as a follow up to Master of Puppets. A more proper follow would have been The Trooper, live from Rock in Rio. A far more "thrash-like" song than Hallowed. JMO

  • @alexojeda9048
    @alexojeda9048 5 лет назад +46

    Juliette… you are young so I will forgive your "lack of appreciation". Maiden IS the greatest live Metal band to ever roam the Earth. You also have to take into account that in '82 it was called Heavy Metal and that Maiden was part of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal. These bands emphasized melody and musicianship and cleaner vocals compared to Metallica, which was a Thrash Metal band in the 80's. My suggestion is to take a more chronological approach to showing her Metal; like in an actual school. Bouncing around sub-genres may confuse her bit and she may not develop an appreciation for some of the greats like Judas Priest, Black Sabbath, Dio, and Motorhead. Just my 2 cents.

I myself grew up in the 80’s and listen to Bob Jovi, Cinderella, Whitesnake...I found Megadeth and Metallica and it turned me on to the heavier bands. Loved the Grunge Era with Nirvana and Pearl Jam and actually went into death metal too. I never played my music when I was with her, instead letting her find herself. With in the last two years my daughter has switched from radio pop to introducing ME to some metal bands! Now we absolutely thrash in the car together. Seeing you two doing this is awesome and reminds me of these times of mine. I hope you two continue on, as I’ve found it as such a bonding experience with my daughter.

    I Prevail / Scars
    Frozen Crown / I Am The Tyrant
    Bullet for my Valentine / Tears Don’t Fall

    I think its okay to express your honest opinion about a song, even if it is a classic. This is definitely a different style or genre from the other videos I have seen, so it makes sense that your preconception of what metal music is might be skewed toward the heavier stuff. I think Iron Maiden is one of the most important bands in metal, and I think the fact that they have been doing this music for as many years and still fill out arenas is a testament to that. I also think this is not the first song I would recommend for someone who has never heard Maiden before.
    That said, I think the granddaddies of metal should be next: Black Sabbath's "War Pigs".

    Maiden are one of the founders of what was called NWOBHM, New Wave Of British Heavy Metal. They were formed in the late 70's and advised to change into a Punk band as that was what selling at the time. They stuck to their beliefs and carried on playing metal, they probably have the most loyal fans worldwide of any band and have toured since the 70's to this very day. The lead singer Bruce Dickinson is a qualified pilot and has flown their tour planes including an Airbus A320 and Boeing 747. You need to read their lyrics, they are all about writing about historical events and putting them to a harmonious metal soundtrack. They initially had two lead guitarists but have operated 3 lead guitarists for decades now. Steve Harris, founder band member and bassist is one of the most acclaimed bass players in Rock. His galloping technique is very difficult to emulate, his love for West Ham football club is the reason Maiden are known as The Irons which just happens to be the nickname for West Ham.

    This was actually one of the songs I analysed for my Senior Paper in High School and what I took from the song was that maybe the prisoner had been wrongfully convicted and the truth he seeks in the great beyond is the true identity of the assailant whose place he took at the gallows. It's a very multi-faceted song with a lot of potential analyses that may be stronger or weaker depending on your own point of view.
    As someone who has always kind of been into Psychology, Mythology, History and also Forensics, songs like this are always fun to pick apart, though many of my friends and family have told me to stop ruining their favorite songs by analyzing their meanings and thus their ramifications.

    Iron Maiden took me a few listens to get into even back in the early 80s when I first heard them. But the more I listened, the more I liked them. Now that I'm knocking on the door of 50 years old, I still listen to them and love them and respect them more now than I did as a teenager in the 80s for what they've done musically. Spend some more time with these guys. Bruce's voice is unique and their sound is also very unique. There are so many tunes in the catalog to choose from.
    When getting into new genres of music, and open mind is required, which Juliette absolutely has and that's awesome, but and open ear is also required. By that I mean you have to remember that it's not all going to sound the same. It's not all going sound like Jinjer or Metallica or Nightwish or Gojira. Every band, in order to be successful, has to create their own image and sound. Perhaps starting this School of Metal series with bands from the earliest days of metal and progressing from say, the 70s up to the present, would have been a better way to do it so she can follow that natural progression of the genre instead of now having to "fight" that expectation that she has after hearing newer bands. But she's doing great and she's a very smart young lady who sure seems to be very open to all of this which is awesome. Keep up the great work, guys.

    In schooling for metal you perhaps need to start at the beginning where Hard Rock were born out from the rock genre by bands like Deep Purple, Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin. Smoke on the water is literally a history lesson since it is written on tour about a event happening on tour, and it was when the lucky accident of running an electric organ thru an amp for an electric guitar made a new sound that went into what was to be defining hard rock in the late 70:th

    Thank you for reviewing one of my favourite songs. I really appreciate the honest opinion. Metal music in general may not be one of the easiest type of music to get into, since there are a lot of subgenre of metal available. And each one sounds different from the other. You may find yourself discovering your favourite subgenre or band through this journey. But if I may say so, never depend on a single hearing session especially the bands that do concept album. They may be the most trickiest bands to get into.
    OK, now for my obligatory song request. And since I've been talking about different/unique subgenre of metal, I think you guys may enjoy something new. My song request would be, "Quoth the Raven" by the band Eluveitie. Iron Maiden was the first Metal band I heard in my life. Iron Maiden album "Seventh Son of a Seventh Son" was the first record I bought with my own money when I was just a kid in school (a second hand record from a guy in school). Iron Maiden made me a metalhead and I will always remember that. And with all that being said I can tell you that I apreciated this reaction. You don't have to be "scared" Juliette. You are here to listen, learn and give your thoughts and your true reaction. And that was what you did. And to me that is more satisfying to watch then some bullshit lie like:"OH MY GOD! I LOOOOOVED IT!" when deep inside the person hated it and are lying just for the new subs and stuff. I love Maiden but I'm not "mad" at you in any way for not liking this song so much. I bet that are other songs in the vast Maiden discography that you would like more. But I'm not going to ask for none of them. I respect you and your opinion and I don't want to be that kind of guy pissing you off with: "You MUST react to this Maiden song! You will LOVE IT! DO IT, DO IT NOW!"
