    Being able to disengage as a bonus action on a caster class can save slots that may have been used for misty step.
    This makes is much easier to make ranged weapon or spell attacks without having disadvantage imposed on attack rolls.
    And since the disengage action isn’t a spell, you can use slotted level spells much easier after getting into position. Misty step would restrict you to casting cantrips.
    I have a 2 hexblade warlock/13 lore bard goblin that stays incredibly effective while Eldritch blasting. waits for the opportune moment to drop a leveled while dealing respectable damage and moving creatures around the battlefield.

    Goblin makes a godly bladesinger!
    Getting that free disengage helps the inherent weaknesses of putting a wizard in melee combat. Add that the small race racial feat gives the goblin a 35ft movement and bonuses to escaping grappling and you become a proper bringer of Sword & Sorce-- Wizardry to the battlefield! Plus the bonus to dex and con is much more welcome for the armor bonus and con checks.
    This also applies to melee warlocks and that one odd melee sorcerer that someone tries every year to make work.

    They are the best at MM due to the way it works in 5e. Seeing that you only roll damage once (according to Jeremy Crawford) you add the fury of the small to all of your bolts, and because you can choose when to use it you can save it until you get max damage to end someone.

      @@Indestructoboy I can't say. What I can say, is that Goblin Battle Master with skulker and sharpshooter will virtually never be touched. You have 600 feet to shoot an arrow, find cover, and hide. Pair that with goading attack, or tripping attack and make the enemy that much more at a disadvantage.

    How about 1 level in rogue and then continue into gloomstalker ranger? A lot of proficiencies, sneak attack, and you avoid the overlap in cunning action and nimble escape. You essentially get the best of both worlds. And ranger doesn't use its bonus action that much since most of the spells are concentration. So you'll be hiding almost every turn or using disengage if you're surrounded. It also reinforces the idea of the gloomstalker. Although vanish at level 14 would nullify nimble escape, but most campaigns don't get that far and ranger is pretty meh after level 12 anyways, so you could continue with your rogue levels.

  • @egonhomes
    @egonhomes Год назад

    I have to disagree with your claim about them making mediocre Sorc/Wiz. They're probably the best race for that. They get the disengage, and Fury of the Small works with spells, especially AoE spells. Having your Fireball do extra damage to everything in range is just too nice.

  • @binolombardi

    Goblin rogue thematically is S tier.
    Mechanically, getting a carbon copy of an class defining feature is crazy overlap... how is that a S tier?

    • @Indestructoboy
      @Indestructoboy  4 года назад +3

      It isn't a carbon copy, it gets enhanced.

    • @Indestructoboy
      @Indestructoboy  4 года назад +2

      Think of it like this, it's a redundancy but a very minor one because Cunning Action gets to Dash as a Bonus Action and Nimble Escape doesn't.
      The effects aren't as significant as something like a class feature giving you resistance to a damage type that your race gives you.

    • @jemm113
      @jemm113 3 года назад

      Because its a useful feature that simply comes online sooner and still gets a buff. If it was something like extra attack where it doesn't stack AND gets no upgrade then it'd probably put it down a peg or two.

    • @binolombardi
      @binolombardi 3 года назад

      @@jemm113 nimble escape is 2/3’s of cunning action, and would be available at level 1 vs level 2 feature of rogue.
      I think it’s disingenuous to call it an upgrade just because the racial feature heavily over laps the rogues level 2 base class feature. There is no synergy, it’s literally a wasted racial feature from level 2 onward. There’s no synergy, it doesn’t work together, it just becomes an entirely useless racial feature. It doesn’t stack and is comparable to your extra attack example. It’s not like you get to hide and disengage at the same time with the same bonus action.
      A player gets to make about 4 to 6 impactful choices that guide their characters mechanical development during the average game that typically ends around 10th level.
      Class, race, background, subclass, and potentially 2 ASIs or feats. This overlap almost entirely defeats the mechanics gained by going goblin and rogue.
      Like I said before, thematically “S” tier, mechanically not even close.

    Have none of you heard of a goblin dirge singer before? It's a bardic subclass that is race-locked to goblin that is probably one of the best subclasses in the game. If you pick the urchin background you now have a goblin who can do basically everything a rogue can with the exception of thieves' cant, except you don't start off with expertise (you get it at lvl 3 though) and you have spells.
    It's literally one of the most powerful goblin class/background combos in the game. I highly recommend it.
    If you like rogues and want to try a bard, this is your rogue-ish bard.
