      Three levels in Battlemaster Fighter gets you the maneuvers Brace, and Riposte to use your reaction to attack when your opponent approaches you or miss an attack against you in melee. Two Sneak Attacks in one round!

      I don't hate taking some paladin (oath of the crown theme wise maybe), I mean which paladin subclass do you know that would hate it if they have to target you 1 on 1? 😂

    • @textoffender3410
      @textoffender3410 Год назад +2

      @@woutvanostaden1299paladins dont need dex and rogues dont need strength so the multiclass is inherently wasting some points, it is decent despite this though.

    • @woutvanostaden1299
      @woutvanostaden1299 Год назад +3

      @@textoffender3410 Having "some dex" doesn't hurt a paladin. Afterall there are plenty of paladin builds builds that use shields, making shield master better (though inferior to rogues evasion) for this dex is needed. Besides I hate the "clunky paladin" that ruins stealth for the party stereotype. Strength rogues are, while harder to build, vary decent and so combining it with paladin, in the case of swasbuckler or a very lucky arcane trickster statwise, is really not that crazy in my opinion.

    • @DParkerNunya
      @DParkerNunya 7 месяцев назад +2

      @woutvanostaden1299 You only need a plus one in either stat to multiclass, which has never hurt anyone. Sneak Attack only requires a Finesse or Ranged Weapon, which means you can use a rapier with strength and be fine, and a Dex based paladin is a very easy thing to build, so you can even stick to Dex. Swashbuckler Rogues are also less likely to be the sneaky types, which means investing in Strength over Dex is much safer for party function. Don't shut down a fun multiclass idea just because it takes the barest effort to make it work. Either ditch the plate mail and go sword and board, or be a knight using a rapier. Both of these can be done and are incredibly fun.

      Swashbuckler will be good even in 5.24 if we multiclass with valor bard, any warlock (theme wise I'd would probably pick archfey or fiend {for a davy jones type of character or fathom warlock or undead}) or paladin (theme wise any of the 5.24 are good and even conquest could be cool), that is nog to say that sorcerer would be terrible, but I like having extra attack!

      Fae wanderer can work quite well with WIS using magic stone, that also works well for your CHA skills so you don't need it that high. Even just +1 will do since the rest is supported by "high" WIS. 8 STR, 10 INT, 12 CHA, 13 CON, 14+2 WIS and 15+1 DEX will get you there. Of course with point buy you could optimise more for I think it was 2, 16s 2, 14s and 2, 8s.

    Actually for Thieves Cant, I always point to Octopath Traveler's use of Cockney Rhyming Slang. That seems like the best idea for Cant. It isn't a language so much as its a series of symbolic words that don't make sense, at least unless you understand the symbolism. So its why non-thieves don't get it, because its a you know if you know thing.

    The way i think of thieves cant is that it depends on the location and context. Being un those different locations can change the dialect completely. Go to Neverwinter and the phrase "the pigs have swallowed the rooster's clutch" can mean something somewhat different in Baldur's gate, and something COMPLETELY different a different nation. All cant means is slang and colloquial; different places use it while others don't

    Playing a Swashbuckler/Hexblade. What do you all think I should call him? Hexbuckler or Swashblade? Also; can Panache be used against multiple targets simmul... simultain.... at the same time? I've read the description and it isn't definitive. I want to use it while I'm using the spell "Enthrall".

    • @theuncalledfor
      @theuncalledfor Год назад +2

      The wording of Panache only uses singular. Features and spells that can be used against multiple targets simultaneously tend to say so explicitly. Panache can therefore only be used against one target at a time.
      Also, please do not cast Enthrall during combat (unless other party members are using stealth mid-combat for some reason, like they're other Rogues, or Rangers, for example). Enthrall only affects Perception checks, and you do not need to roll Perception checks in combat unless someone is using the Hide Action. It seems odd for a Rogue to cast Enthrall, as one would expect the Rogue to be the one to go into hiding while someone else acts as a distraction. Also be aware that Enthrall has a verbal component, so it's not really possible to cast it without someone noticing you're casting a spell.

    • @stevenwhitehead8468
      @stevenwhitehead8468 Год назад +1

      Panache isn't a spell. It's a class feature. I agree that making multiple skill checks would be inappropriate, but making one persuasion check vs. a roomful of people making insight(?) checks to resist should be fine. Also, Enthrall is for stealth and non-combat situations like when distraction is a thing.@@theuncalledfor

      @@stevenwhitehead8468
      Yes, exactly. Don't cast Enthrall _in combat_ because that's not what it's for.
      It kinda shoots itself in the foot by having a verbal component, though.
      Then again it says something about a string of words, I guess that could be interpreted as a spell that can hide in plain sight, as in a conversation? Hmm...

    You know what would really annoy the bad guys? a Swashbuckler/Echo Knight multiclass! Not only would they have to fight a suave, trash talking rogue who keeps out-maneuvering them, flirting with their would-be girlfriend mid-battle, stabbing them in the butt and humiliating them in front of their peers and boss, but at level eighteen, they'd have to fight three of the bastard!

    Personally, when it comes to swashbuckler I like a 3 level dip into Barbarian for bear totem if I have the strength. Pairing panache (a built in taunt) with rage (flavored to be a battle trance, locked in fully in tune with the fight) means the rogue has the survivability it needs to be in melee, and it’s way more fun to have danger sense with evasion

    Why the barbarian hates the Swashbuckler.
    Cause every time it seemed a fight was about to start... the swashbucklers panache... and expertise in ever CHA based skill allows him to easily talk their way out of it.
    The barbarian is really wanting to hit something... mainly the swashbuckler... but somehow... he's to dang charming to hit.

    Thieves cant basically means a few words have been assigned different meanings and you know how to work those into an otherwise meaningless sentence to convey a simple idea. Like you might say “Johnny went down to the bakery to buy bread” but the only words that matter are bakery meaning bank and bread meaning money. Or something like that. I spent three seconds on that example

      Another one might be an letter saying "this is an invitation to x persons house to play a game of cards with person y" but it really means "come to x persons house for discussion the assassination contract of person y"

      Person A: "Thieves cant" Person B "Thieves can't, what?" Person A: "Thieves can't talk about their plans in public without getting in trouble so they use a bunch of words that they have allocated a specific meaning to ... and that's a bit long of a name so let's shorten it to Thieves cant". That should do the trick, 😂😊
