2:54 Goblins can use reckless attack with a heavy weapon "Doing so gives you advantage on melee weapon attack rolls using Strength during this turn" making it counter the disadvantage of a a small creature using a two handed weapon. Follow this with Nimble Escape to avoid taking that extra damage after attacking. I am working on a goblin barlock that thinks the bigger the weapon, the stronger he is, so he drags around a weapon double his size around.
I like how the goblin lore is tending towards more fey like narratives, a classic seelie and unseelie court story. It's a good change and a great hook for newcomers to the game.
I'm actualy playing a college of the sword bard goblin and I'm having a blast with him. Combination of AoE spells, bardic inspirations and fast hit-and-run attack, it's just great! So much options.
I am just getting started, session zero tomorrow, on a goblin warlock. The disengage should help with the concentration spells which will extend the functional time for the limited spells. It seemed a fun way to keep the legs under the spells for a while, while still playing into the weakness and panic of both the warlock and the goblin. Oddly, I'm going celestial for story purposes, and am intentionally limiting the power of the lock with a self imposed attempt at balancing my actions but I've been a forever DM til now do I needed some over the top elements while allowing the actual kids at the table to be the heroes.
Saw a goblin suggestion in thinking about a bladesinger wizard. Love the idea of running, attack, and running out.. giving extra damage to an enemy that chases the wizard. Even better if they run through my other party members for some opportunity attacks.
Just discovered you. Good content, nice takes on the matter, made me think of new characters, also you’re easy to the eye which is a nice cherry on top ^^
Honestly this the buff that goblins needed I remember back in the day unless you were playing hob goblin they really did feel like an after thought design wise and mostly were used for the memes most of the time. At least that was what I saw on most D&D streams I watched in the 2017-2019 time frame. So I'm glad this makes them more playable and build centric.
One thing I like to do when playing druids is to cast a damaging concentration spell like flaming sphere then wild shape into a tiny creature often times with flight then hide away while my flaming sphere does all the work.
I like the idea of a Goblin Summoner. Flavor it as a Shaman. Druid or Wizard would work. Perhaps Warlock if you dont think you are going to super high levels (warlock summoning stops scaling once they get 5th lvl spells).
Lol one month later. Use this version of the goblin Bladesinger + Horizon Walker Haste yourself, ex. Retreat yourself and bladesong for a exuberant amount of move speed. Run in hit and boomblade/g flame blade teleport do it again and again etc etc. Then "disengage" and hide. When they move. Situation depending before you roll damage. Pop fury of the small for added punch. Feat.... mobile Ok so wizard 6 Ranger 11 That 17.....
I've been looking at Goblin potentially for the Infiltrator Armorer, since the Homunculus Servant is their only bonus action and it's not very durable. I think it's hard to pick over the Githzerai (Shield / Mage Hand) and Eladrin (BA: Misty Step+, and access to Elven Accuracy) though...
My main goblin ideas arean arcane trickster rogue and circle of spores druid, though my reasons lean more heavily towards flavor and the racial traits are just fun bonuses
I love the ideas of both! I feel like Rogues and goblins should go together so well, but unfortunately they overlap just a little too much. A druid on the other hand would mechanically be great as well as flavorfully unique!

Wouldn't blink also just be a way to have something similar?
I can see a Goblin Battle master. They use goading attack and then disengage to pull them into a disadvantageous situation, such as an ambush.
I think any archer build could use them. Sacrifice the d8 longbow but in return you never have to worry about enemies trapping you in melee.
Goblin Aberrant Mind Sorcerer. Goblin Eldritch Knight (Dex Build).
