      It is easier to remember those names if you know the literal meaning of those words. They are generally latin, greek or both. Otherwise, they have a fascinating history attached to it (only if you have time to read it).

    Hands up if you get a deep anxiety when presented with new books to read because nothing makes you feel quite mortal like realizing there are so many good books out there to read and you will die before reading the vast majority of them.

    Speaking of the sternum, does Iron Man have one? This has been bothering me for a while. Wouldn't the arc reactor that was embedded in his chest be occupying the same space as the sternum? How could such an issue be resolved using explanations featuring realistic science fiction? Also, how would having such a piece of technology attached to you not basically count as having a permanently open wound?

    • @alfredomarquez1916
      @alfredomarquez1916 7 лет назад +5

      I've always just assumed (yes, I've assumed this) that the outer layer of the implant seen in a scene in the first movie, the one in which the arc reactor plugs, is holding a chunk of the sternum's body in each half. If you go watch some open heart surgeries you'll see patients survive with a sawed in half sternum just fine before the stitches on their hearts can be removed, maybe it hurts, but it seems plausible under superhero logic.
      Also not a matter anymore since he healed the hole in his chest in Iron Man Three.

    I ADORE The Raven Cycle and if you haven't read it the bonus is that all the books are out so you can binge gloriously without a year or so in between drinks. Amazing books. One of the things I love about it is how the characters react and interact. It struck me, partway through the first book, that these characters weren't acting like characters but acting like humans. It's a little less clean cut. A little more changeable. It felt like I remembered relationships and feelings I'd had that were similar. I found it utterly, breathtakingly good. And if you like horses you should also check out one of Maggie's other books called The Scorpio Races.

      Start with graphic novels and short books or stories of around 100 pages and then slowly increase the number of pages and you'll get there. Also, perhaps even more importantly, find a book that you're really intrigued about and invested in what happens next that you won't even notice how long it is, because the time will just fly by while you're reading it. :)

    Fun Fact! If you perform CPR too low down the sternum (it's supposed to be performed around the body of the sternum), the xyphoid process will snap off, point inwards, and repeatedly stab the victims organs as you try to restart their heart! Isn't learning fun?
