How odd. My story is the same except two golden rams, 75 gallon, heavily planted, local fish store, all petsmart fish have always been fine, you would think the opposite. Using Kordon Ich Attack. Double dosing (weird parallel, again) no ich showing on one ram and just a little on the other. No other fish show evidence of ich. But enough about my fish. This is an awesome video, no screaming, no stupid gags just straight forward honest information. Thank you for providing great content and a civilized delivery.
Thanks for the comment and support. Both remedies worked but the Kordon took twice as long and made my fish room stink. The Ruby Reef worked very quick but is twice the price. I guess it all depends on what you want to do. Thanks for watching
Have you tried API super ick cure?
Thanks for the awesome vid! I'm actually just starting at PetSmart as an animal care associate. We take care of the animals and educate customers about them. I remember very basic fish keeping information from when I was a kid, but I'm watching videos to refresh and learn more. I'd like to be an employee that offers good and accurate care info, unfortunately chain pet storres tend to have a rep for providing misinformation. My thing is reptiles (5 lizards in my room right now... but 5 is not enough ), so I have birds, rodents, fish, and amphibians to research now. I'm crossing my fingers I'll be able to help people give their pets a happy and healthy home. This was super informative and your other videos are, as well! Thanks again!
Thanks for watching
One of my fantasies as a retiree is to volunteer at a Petsmart, and direct the gutting of the entire system. The $$ they don't pay me could go into a new, divided filtration system for quarantining sick fish and incoming fish.
The $$ spent would be spent once, and would be divided into blocs for new fish, wild caught new fish, inverts, plants and then everything else, each bloc geared toward fish with similar needs and water parameters. I would segregate the system into blocs of 4-6 tanks per bloc.
Having all the fish in one basket is just stupid IMHO. You cannot contain anything once someone pees in the pool.
You came in clutch with this video!!! Now to get the products and get started, thank you!
You got this!
Very informative and timely because my fish have ich 😢
Sorry to hear that
@MASSAquariums thank you 🐬
Thank you for this video!!! I'm fighting ick in 2 of my planted tanks as well. I'll be getting those products you mentioned asap!
👍👍go with the Ruby Reef
Where to purchase it
I have never used meds to cure ich, I have always used temperature. Never had a need for meds. 85 F will kill ich in about three days, after that I slowly bring temp down to 82 F for another three days and then slowly return tank to normal temps. Works like a charm without putting a drop of chemical in the tank. The last time I had to deal with ich I did that and lost no fish, it is best to catch ich very early so pay attention to your tanks and know what is going on in there. If you let your tank go a couple of days with hardly looking at it then you're already behind the 8 ball. Been in this hobby for around 40 years and have only had ich like three times. The very best cure for ich is prevention. I haven't had to deal with ich for about 20 years but I also have become a much more experienced and therefore better fish keeper.
Well said
Hey, I'm in Mass, too. And I got a beautiful double red apisto from _ _ _ _, too. They have amazing fish, but I'm sure I got it from the plants I got there. Lesson learned. I'm in MetroWest and I love the videos! Keep it up.
Thanks. Cool. Go PATS
In Kentucky apistos evidently don't exist. Sucks. I"m gonna have to buy online I guess and pray they are healthy and that I can keep the alive after paying that hefty shipping. Already been collecting oak leaves to setup that tank.
Nice. Good luck buying online. Shipping cost suck
great video, good explanation ,easy understanding i got 4 questions and check more then 10 videos .you have all my answers in this same videos.thanks MASS aquarium
Glad I could help. Thanks for watching.
Also the interesting thing I found at the pet shop all the tanks felt the same temp I’m thinking the loaches I bought were kept in a nine heated tank hence the white spot I don’t notice the white spot when I bought them I’m Assuming they had maybe 1 to 3 tiny spots when I bought them next time I know to check the fish very intensively before buying,at least if my main tank start getting more again I know how to start the proper treatment early
This was an awesome video! You helped me out soooooo much! I spotted ich in my tank a couple of days ago and was freaking out because I have snails and didn't want to hurt them while treating the ich. I will definitely try the products you recommended. Your video was a godsend!
just got home and my daughter noticed white spots on one of the fish ,hope i find one of those products
.thanks for the inf
Good luck.
Um....I'm sorry, were you saying something? I was too busy staring into those eyes Lol Seriously, though, great vid, great info. I really should get separate nets, siphons, etc for each tank, but I've been using just the one set...days apart, though, and after a heavy scalding...so far so good, but not worth the risk. I spotted ich on my Harlequins after adding them to my big tank, and they were quarantined for weeks. Late at night, no way to get the meds, so I put a spare heater in and hoped for the best...thankfully it worked :)
Lol. Blush. Hopefully it all works out for you
Great video! I'm going to add these products to my fish cabinet.
Thanks. I would go with the Ruby reef. It's a bit more money but works a lot better and doesn't smell like the Ich attack. Thanks for watching
I know this is 6 years old but hoping you’ll see this comment. After medication, which one did you see worked better and which worked quicker ? How long did you medicate till ich disappeared and how long after did you medicate to make sure anything left is eradicated or starved off?
I preferred the ruby reef and I dosed the recommended amount and duration on the bottle
Ich ,.can show up for no reason what so ever, I just got over it , no new fish , no temperature changes no nothing just out of the blue there it was , anyway raise the temp to 87f and do nothing else
Mike: love the videos. Understand you do NO water changes until the med dosing is finished? is that correct? One would think you'd want to do water changes to rid the system of the ick spores once the fall off the fish. I did a 50% water change before starting the Ruby Reef and am just two doses into the medication. Thanks!
I would follow the instructions on the bottle but I wouldn’t do a WC until the mess are done
Thanks
30 days of applying chemical ich medication is insane and beyond dangerous. As Cory from aquarium coop suggests, use Ich-X for 3 days, then after it’s gone once more for a 4th day and it’s gone!
🤷🏻♂️
Hey mike from Mass! Jeff here, had ick almost a month ago, wiped out all fish except for one, waited to add new fish, finally found a good fish store with healthy fish, placed them in tank, thinking ick was gone.
Tank was treated with cheap stuff from pet smart, keeping tank at about 82, doing 25 percent water change weekly. Now my new angels are acting drowsy And surfacing. I ordered ruby reef. Can I treat tank for ick if no white spots are seen? Even had one survivor, he has no signs, but now brand new Angels due, acting droopy, and surfacing, but no white spots.
PH levels are normal, and plenty of air from air stones.
Yes. You can treat the tank. I treat until 2 weeks after I see white spots. Try food with garlic.
I got ich in my aquarium a couple days ago. The only stuff the LFS had was ich-x which has malachite green in it. I didn't want to stain my 75 so I bought a 20 and threw all the fish in there. I started dosing yesterday a little less than the recommended amount. Are you sure it will stain the 20? If it stains the 20 will it only stain the silicone or will it also stain the glass, because if it stains only the silicone i can just reseal the tank? Sorry for these confusing and grammatically incorrect questions.
Yes it usually will stain the silicone not the glass
Hi Mass,Brown algae , has taken over, each week (Tuesday) 40% water change . I did hit it with hydrogen peroxide. Look like it was going to work , but not. Going to put in a new light T5, one that in is about a year old also aT5. My SAE were doing well but stopped food is better. Can you help me out, did my homework but this time I need a cheat sheet. Keep up the good work.
+dfzurichch brown algae is from a new tank and poor flow. Increase your flow in the tank to avoid dead spots and that will help
I am so mad, I got Rummy Nose Tetra from one of my LFS and they got stressed out when I moved them into my tank they got chased for a bit (I do not have a quarantine tank). I noticed a couple days later that they all had a couple white spots on their fins and started treating them with those fizzy tablets for Ich from Pet Supplies. I raised the temp after watching a couple videos on Ich. 7 Tetra died overnight... I did a half dose the next day hoping it would help, all 5 left died that night. No one else showed white spots, but my young rainbow shark started hanging out by the filter intake which is odd so I decided to try (sadly in my newly planted tank) the salt treatment instead of another dose of meds. This morning (Christmas) I wake up to find a couple of white spots on the 3 remaining fish (including the RS) and one of those others is missing part of it's fin? No one is covered in spots, just a couple here and there, why would the fin do that? And a dwarf pleco that I can't tell anything about because it keeps hiding. I treated with the tabs again this morning. I've done the 25% water changes before every new treatment like they say, and taken out the carbon filters, but I am terrified I'm about to lose the rest of my fish and the plants, too... And ordering the Ruby Reef is going to take days to get here... I don't know what to do. I have never had Ich before and I've had fish for almost a decade now. So much life and money lost because of this. And Sadly, I just got a nice light for my planted tank for Christmas and I can't use it right now because of it... Any advice?
You could raise the temp to over 86, do water changes and hope for the best
I just got ich in my tank.
Petsmart doesn't have the reef product but they do have the cordon ich attack.
What do you think about the API liquid super ick cure?
Should I get API or the cordon?
Order the Ruby Reef from Amazon
It's actually after 86.6 degrees is when ich actually starts to die off
Thank you and thanks for the info
How often are you doing water changes? I'm worried I'm going to make my tank cycle again.
+Michelle Scheer none while treating the tank
is aquarium salt safe for scaleless fish i have bumble bee catfish in the rams tank
I don't think it is safe, no. I have zebra loaches and was warned off salt.
Do you think the ruby reef would be fine with cherry shrimp?
Yes. It's copper free
Thanks
I have ick for a few days on my fishes. i am using a hi temp, and the same time hi air flow. lights off. and i feed them with garlic. And making water changes. is this safe yeah? Hope they live... alsaw i bought a aquarium salt.._ I don't have live plants.. Hope they get well soon with this kind of cares what to you thing..?? :-) give me your advice bro thanx...!!!
Sounds like solid fish care and the strong ones will survive.
Thanx bro...!! A nother question.. my other tank is 80x 50 x37 cm..how many gallon and liters is.. can you tell me exactly pls? i thing is about 135 liters but i am not sure... thanx..!!
I work in inches and gallons. How many inches
32x20x15 inches..
Sounds like about 30 gallons
Ok so I got rid ick (only thing LFS had) and I'm gunna try to use that, they said to half dose it due to the babies. Does that sound good
It may be good. I don't know how much.
How can you effectively say it's Ich . My fish has like a shiny little spot in the body but I don't want to treat it before I'm sure. Thanks
+XWOLVE25 it will be like your Fish was sprayed with sugar
MASS Aquariums Okie. thanks
If i only have one plant can i just take it out and use salt then put it back when all the ich is gone.
Be careful with the fish as well
MASS Aquariums ok thanks
What's the other remedy other than the Ruby reef
+M Swall kordon ick attack
Is it ok to use ruby reef kic ich with easy life voogle. Ruby reef say not to use with other meds. See you did this any ill effects?
I had no problems
Thanks.
How do you treat fin rot 😢
Melfix might work
Hey bro i got ich and have been using quick ich x for 2 weeks temps at 84 and my 2 gbr still have it...how long did it take u to rid your 75 of ich
About 1-2 weeks with Ruby Reef and all gone. German blues are tough though. Very finicky. Good luck.
That ruby reef doesnt stain at all?
Nope not at all. It has no methalyne blue or green. It's clear and awesome
Thx man as always very informative and thx for answering my questions . U are my go to guy for fish advice. I am currently cycling a brand new 36 gallon bow front for my rams cant wait to change tanks..np
Well, now not only do I have ick, I guess the fish I didn't know was pregnant had some babies
I know you said not to use salt but say I do, Will that harm my swordtail babies also the temperature would be at 86° and idk if that's safe for babies
I doubt it but I'm not an expert. Not sure if it will harm the fry
Great video. Much too quite. Had to turn the surround up to like 20 to even hear you.
Thanks. Sorry. One of my older ones. Thanks for watching
You are welcome sir. Should of looked at the the date and compared to your new ones, my bad. Keep up the good work.
Thanks
ruby reef pays you? oh boy the credibility just keeps getting less and less _ pray for my tank
Nope. They do not. I tried both and that’s my opinion
Thank you! FINALLY a video that doesn’t prattle on and on..thank you SO much for getting to the point with out a lot of useless yapping…I am a brand new fan!!! You’re the first person that’s done a video without yammering on and on..I’m new to RUclips and about the only thing I’ve been “informed” of is: people LOVE to hear themselves talk…and with all of the pompous noise, they do not teach nor inform. Thank you for both teaching and informing…now..I’m off to save sick fish. I will continue to support your channel, please keep up the good work.
Thanks. Good luck
Great job Mr. mass. I've been in this hobby for 50 years . I have never heard a presentation as clear as this one .Direct to the point, Covered the most common problems.
I have subscribed to your channel and look forward to seeing more of your presentations please be safe thank you
Thank you. Appreciate that
A lot of stores use one filtering system. 😑. We only have 1 decent store here that’s a Mom & Pops store who has separate filters.
I have done salt and plants worked ok but small measurements
I made a stupid mistake of cross contaminating ich from one tank to another. I had a betta with ich in a separate tank but I accidentally infected my 40 gallon when I fed them bloodworms. I think I dipped the tongs I used in the ich infected tank to my healthy main tank 🤦🏻♀️
Ouch. It can happen
Petco smh yep I'm going with same crap
I bought some fish from pet smart and now I have a problem and all my fish are sick
That happens. Should try and quarantine new fish if possible
I never go to Petco anymore. Switched to PetSmart.
I got fish from peco and got ick. Never going there again either too. Lesson learned.
my ram I just got from petco infected my tank and I am now dealing with ick.
LaxBboys yup. Petco fish always have diseases. Even after 8 years, I went back got fish and sure enough, sick.
LaxBboys I got a oscar from petco and it had ick and killed my hole tank
LaxBboys: I was always buying my fish from Petsmart and got ich from them. Now I'm afraid to buy fish from anybody.
Thanks for this video. Subscribed today to your channel. 👍👍😊
Thanks for the sub!
I haven't even bought my first tank yet. Gathering info and loving your videos. They are very informative. They explained the basics without making me feel stupid. Thanks
No problem Sue
I think one of my new african butterfly fish developed ich unfortunately I put him in my community and the one has 2-3 spots that are small so I cant tell if it is ich or not I am going to buy this and dose the tank for the next little bit all my fish are from africa so they can handle the higher heats into the 90s
That stinks
@@MASSAquariums yeah, so I made the same rookie mistake you did and I even had a quarantine I could have put them in but they looked healthy, oh well I ordered the products from the video so hopefully no one else will end up with it
What color stain when using product with a green ingredient?
Most likely green
Sorry your one fish died I bought a couple fish from a chain pet franchise all was good until I bought some from the local individual store I bought two loaches they looked ok until 4days later the bigger one was covered in white spots my fish from the other shop are ok atm my one rainbow shark had 5 little spots I upped the heat and now it has none but now my bigger loach looks bad so I got a small tank to treat it individually with the smaller loach cuase they are covered in white spots I’m doing heat and salt with medicine keeping a close eye on them I really don’t want them to die especially my little loach it is really small would love to see it go from tiny to an adult
Thank you for the info.!! Much needed since I do have live plants I was about to make a huge error. 🤦🏼♀️❤️
👍🏻🐟
Thanks for the great info Mike! If I understood you correctly, you leave the temp at 86 for the entire month that you plan dosing the first product that you mentioned? Is that right?
Yes. Exactly
Would you still recommend this for ich in a freshwater tank? Have a planted tank that will be ruined with copper - there is so many mixed reviews about this product(ruby reef), was wondering if you had any more experience with it since posting this video?
Ruby reef is safe for plants and inverts
Have you had 100% success removing ich with ruby reef? Or do you eventually see something pop up again? -Assuming dosing correctly and nothing new added
Thanks!
Thank you for your tips. Question. I had ich really bad in my newly planted tank. I freaked out and have added aquarium salt.xplus ich attack. Any ideas or tips to get my tank back. I didn't realize salt will kill my plants. What should I do
Let it run for a week or so then start adding some plants back slowly
Ruby reef kick Ich is okay. A quick disclaimer for it though is that the lower the pH of your tank, the less effective it is. That’s why many people use this for reef tanks and NOT planted tanks, as generally planted tanks are a lower pH. For Ich in planted tanks, personally I have had more success treating Ich with ICH-X. Personal favorite products, even safe with shrimp. Also treats velvet too!
Nice
How long to keep water at 86 degrees to kill ich.
3-5 days
@@MASSAquariums thank you 😊
After struggling with other ICH meds (for a planted freshwater aquarium with Invertebrates), ICH-X (by Aquarium Solutions) was mentioned by Cory at Aquarium Co-Op as being Plant and Invert safe. It has done the trick for me and I now use it routinely in my Quarantine tank to clean up all new arrivals.
👍🏻
I know I'm 10 years late asking this but unfortunately the store you mentioned without mentioning it gave me a ick in my tank too, I got 4 new female betta for my sorority and all four was infected with ick. My question is how do you clean the planted tank after like how do you sanitize it and when do you add new fish?
If all the fish are gone you can slowly raise the temp to 86 plus but the plants may melt, you can dip the plants in bleach/water solution and start the tank over or simply run the tank with no fish for a few weeks. Ick needs a host to spread
if this so called fish store is selling sick and or poor quality fish,, why don't you identify such store? that's so not cool, yes you fixed your tank but,, others are still buying from this store. I take it you're of the mind set,, well i fixed mine too bad for yours, why put someone thru the process of fixing their tank when you could have them avoid it all if you said what store you got the sick fish from? That's so uncool bro,, I almost subscribed to your channel. Almost. Soo not cool!
🤷🏻♂️
HEy mike, I bought some fish/snails from local pet ? Then I noticed ick a few days later, my question is, should I wait on putting new plants in till after the ick is cleared up?
I think my ich came from an infected plant I got at a fish store. The following week, there was a big HOLD sign on the tank.
Uh-oh...
*Quarantine your plants too*
Mike, i was watching your recommendations on treating ich. I normally use kordon rid ich in my old tanks, but i didnt want to stain my 156 gallon or kill my plants with salt and heat. I was recommended to use cupramine. So far (6 days) i lost 1 chain loach, which i assume is due to copper sensitivity since the ich was barely noticeable. Anyhow, my plants seem to be taking the treatment rather hard (jungle val, various crypts, various anubias, and some java fern). My question is will my plants recover after treatment or have you had any experiences with this product. Thank mike. Enjoy your channel.
I have not. I honestly would never take the chance of destroying the environment for a couple fish. Try and use ruby reef next time
@@MASSAquariums thanks mike. I will certainly aim for the ruby reef.
Hey I’m having the white spot problem with my fish and I’m using rid ich plus and so far 3 has died what do you recommend me?? Thank
Try ruby reef and bumb the temperature up if you can. Unfortunately ich usually kills the week and the strong should make it
Hi! how often should i do waterchange when i do medication, and can i dose my planted tank as usual?
No water changes while treating and fertilizers are fine.
that natural Kordon ich treatment is garbage. ten days double dosing and the ich only got worse. and yes, I raised the temperature to 84 degrees and even threw in small amounts of aquarium salt
Yeah. I didn't like it at all. Ruby Reef worked great
I have two questions: 1). Just bought a veil angelfish, but noticed it has a single, small, white dot about the size of a salt grain on its top upper fin. It hasn't spread on from there for a whole week, and the fish seems perfectly healthy (isn't showing the usual signs of ick, like darting around and scratching). Not sure if it is ick. Should I be concerned?
2). I have Ick Attack and some other medicines and plant fertilizers from years ago, that all expired in 2016 according to the expiration date. The Aqueon brand fertilizer wasn't ever opened, and the medicines were opened but hardly ever used. I have Ick Attack, API Melafix, API Pimafix, API Super Ick Cure, Mardel Coppersafe, and Tetra Lifeguard. Would you trust any of these? Recently used that expired Melafix, but kept it to a low dosage just to be safe.
Try ruby reef kick ich or just keep an eye out
Can I just do some water changes and leave my Flowerhorn cichlid alone and will ich just go away eventually?
It should if he's healthy.
MASS Aquariums He scrapes his side, but eats like crazy. I think I'm gonna take a chance.
Mine have been sick with ich for 6 days now , got two new Bosemoni rainbows and they had ich. Turned heaters up to 89 for 6 days and daily water changes all but two are clear of the white spots.. I didn't treat with meds but my fish are eating well and no longer sluggish, I'm gonna keep the heat going at high temps for few more days and if I see no more white spots appearing than I know I'm safe and will start to lower the temp.
🐟👍🏻I hope they heal up.
@@MASSAquariums They doing much better I think the ich is dying . Thanks
Just got ruby reef in the mail today. I noticed my Angel's have ich In my planted 75G. The instructions on the bottle say to turn off filtration. But my c02 runs in line of my filter. How do I get around that?
Turn off the co2
Thanks for the video and recommendations. I get so stressed out when my tank gets iched, so in turn I get ticked 😜.
Lol. No problem
You do know you can use a bucket and an air tube for a hospital ... instead of getting parasites in all the tanks
Very true
Tank is about four years old dirt tank 35gals. Filter is a Eheim classic 250, Hydro Koralia 425 GPH was added three years ago. I do change it's position and angle once a month. To avoid dead zones, with the filter I remove little medium to increase the flow. Have a good amount of plants. Just have to bang my head against the wall to think. Thanks......
I bought a brand new 15 Gallon tank, a Brand new coral insert, new plants, and fish from petsmart. I noticed the spots last night and I immediately went to walmart and bought Ich remedy. How could I have gotten it? And how could I get rid of it? Because I haven't had the tank for two weeks and I feel as if I wasted time and money.
I have tetras and mollys btw, don't know if that makes a difference
It's around and when fish get stressed they contract it easily.
I just got a baby ram and he got ick yesterday. I dosed the tank with ap quick cure at half dose because that's what it said to do if I had tetras and I do. I have done two half doses now but I really don't want the silicone on my tank stained blue. can I switch to the brand you are using with this in the water or is it to late (to not stain) and not safe to mix. also the directions don't say to do a water change at all just to does everyday. One more thing my heater is pre set so I cant turn it up . I went to walmart the only store open at 10pm to get a new heater but they didn't have any regular ones either. ive ordered one but it wont be here until Tuesday. is there anything I should do instead. I hate waiting I have a fully stocked heavily planted tank. I so don't want to loose my fish. I will buy the kind of treatment you are using for future but not sure whats best for now. thank you for your help
Hey. Great video. I have a planted tank and just bought a fish that had ich. Stupid me did not quarantine. Anyway can I use a cooper product to treat it on the planted tank?
Use Ruby reef kick ich. That's the best stuff and it's copper free. Copper shouldn't bother plants though.
? Removing charco filter, what to do if you have to treat a long time?
Your tank will be fine until the treatment is complete
I have heard that you should not use salt with tetras. I wish you would have addressed that issue.
Sorry. It is a minimal amount
Unfortunately I also got ich in my tank, i added malachite green, the white spots are gone but my fish are still rubbing against plants and substrate. Should I use more malachite green ? I don't have any other meds except salt, but i have a planted aquarium.
Order some Ruby reef. You need to continue to medicate until 1 week after you see the last white spot.
Update on my tank with ich. I couldn't find either product, went to 3 different stores. At Petco it was suggested I used Herbtana, the girl said this is what she uses at home. I was very sceptical, but I am on day 5 and the parasites are off the fish. I know this product does not kill them immediately, just keeps them off the fish and ends up starving off the parasites. Seems to be working. I have raised my temp up to 86 and put in an airstone. So far everyone is doing fine except 1 platy who was the sickiest. Haven't seen him for two days. I haven't done water changes for I wasn't sure if this product needed to build up. It is a treatment for 10 days. I believe I will do a water change tomorrow after testing water before I dose tank. Thank you for the advice and for your videos, out of all of the videos yours are my favorite. You are the go to guy. God bless.
Can i do 86 on heavy planted tank? I will use tge kordon
If you put it up slowly but I would watch out for plant melting
Not an Ich question, but what are the specs of your 75 aquarium? Substrate? Lighting? Ferts? etc? Looks good man! And thanks for the Ich advise too! Just had an outbreak myself, ironically enough from a few Blue Rams. Sucked...
Thanks. You should see the tank now bro. Check out one of my newest vids. I run dirt substrate, 4 T5 HO bulbs, Fluval 406, GLA Pressurized CO2 system, I dose Flourish potassium and iron and run 1 circulation pump.
Edna-You said continue to do your water change did you mean after the treatment is all done even if it is 30 days after and can I add salt if I have sterba cory in my tank? I am not sure if they like salt with the meds together.
My tank had an ich outbreak after I raised the temps....so mad. Lost 15 out of 20 of my cardinal tetras......and my fish were from a local shop that usually sells very healthy fish! Even the best local shops with seemingly the cleanest tanks can have parasites/fungus
Yeah it just takes one fish
Skip the salt? I just bought it, they didn't have any good meds there I can't get ruby reef, what am I Suppost to do now I already lost a fish I can't lose more!!! I'm freaking out!!
Hope for the best. Salt just improves gill function it's not going to kill anything.
It won't cure by itself, i just got a better heater and now it's just useless? I'm not gunna give up on them. There has to be something, will just the heater get rid of it
The heat will kill the parasite over 87 but the fish might not make it. The healthy fish will outlast ich but the weaker ones will die.
Is 86°f okay for dwarf gouramis, angels ,german ram and siamese algae eater?
That maybe a little high but you could acclimate them probably
@@MASSAquariums so shld i stick to 28°c ?
I am putting rock salt and per day 25% water change, I really dont want them to die. The condition is still the same from past 3-5 days
Thanks for the info! Do you know if both products are snail safe…we have several mystery snails? Also, what was your water change regimen (what % how often)? I too stepped outside my circle to get some fish I wanted and am kicking myself for it as the new ones are covered in ich and dying daily (10 rummy nose). Trying to save my angels and Cory’s before it affects them too 🤦🏼♀️
They are both snail safe and no water changes during treatment
For a few days I had been noticing white specks on my albino brittlenose pleco, I didn't really think anothing of it. I had reserved plecos and all and I knew a few breeds had white spots. But after I looked into it I realized it was ich. I had heard of ich but I never looked it up or thought about it or even worried about it untill tonight when I saw white flecks on my goldfish. And you're going to hate me I have sinned in the eyes of the aquarium world, I realize. But I have a 20 gallon with a pleco 2 goldfish and 3 angel fish. They're little. None of them are more than 2 inches in height or length & I am aware they will get bigger but for now they are happy and healthy, save the parasite, they have big appetites and they all swim around together in a plant eating 24/7 begging for food gang, even tho I feed them twice a day. I'm ready for the scolding on over stocking and crowding and goldfish waste. But I went crazy tonight after I realized it was ich I was like "OH MY GOD OH MY GOD WE NEED TO GO TO THE STORE NOW." but I didnt, I resisted. It's been about 4/3 days since I noticed the spots on the pleco the first time. I read a bit and I've started turning my heater up its currently 82°F and slowly working it's way up. The goldfish don't mind the tropical heat I've had it at about 80°F for about 2 weeks. I have 4 live amazon swords and some line stone. Im not really worried about the planets at all, I know you said salt fries them. Tomorrow I plan on making a petsmart run for air stones and aquarium salt. I read 1 tea spoon per one gallon, desolved, should kill off the parasite. Along with the higher temp. Should I put the salt in all at once? Should I remove rocks and substrate then add it? Remove fish even tho moving them around too much causes stress? Because it would make sense to keep everything in and add the salt because the parasite is already over everything. I'm hoping you can be the light at the end of this idiot tunnel I've walked into.
I also forgot to add there has been no change in behavior in and of the fish even with ich in the tank. The two with spots had clamped fins but they are still swimming around. The goldfish, which is a comet, joins the others in begging for food every time I walk up to the tank. He isn't gasping for air or flashing that I have seen in the past few days. The pleco comes out and sucks on some rocks and the walls of the tanks and the plants before going back into his hiding spots. Behavior has not changed and neither has appetite.
Great info bro 👍🏻
Thank you
turning up to 86 not only shortens the lifespan, but above 86 it will actually keep the ich from attaching to your fish after it becomes free-swimming again. 89-90+ kills it outright. most Amazonian fish (tetras, angels, discus, rams, etc) will be able to handle the 4 days at 90 with no problem. some even keep it there for 10 days and then go to 86 for another week. those are actually temps that the fish could experience in the wild, which is why it's ok for them. barbs, loaches, coryodras, and african cichlids will have a harder time.
🐟👍🏻
cool man, nice video, I just noticed ick on one fish. I have a slightly planted aquarium 46 gallon. 2 clowns 2 crayfish. 10+juvenile cichlids. are these products ok with crayfish? I saw your other video saying to be careful with invertebrates
Use ruby Reef
Dude I bought rummy nose which turned out to be wild caught or breed from wild caught turns out Rummy nose are susceptible to ich really bad my nano tank which is beautifully planted in with tons of rare nano fish now has ich because I stupidly introduce them right away into the tank thank you for this video because I’ve been racking my brain wondering if I could just use salt but I didn’t want to kill my plants I’ve raise the temperatures and nothing has happened yet looks like I’m on my way to the local store to buy these products ASAP thank you for this video
You’re welcome
Mass always good stuff..... Went to three pet shops ..... Even Pet Smart no Ruby Reef ..... I don't like a green or a blue tank ..... They looked at me if I had three heads....... Did you get it on line...... I do my water changes 30% to 40% once a week , two planted tanks... Just having fun... Keep up the good work.....
+dfzurichch got it my LFS. There should be a link in my description to buy it online. Thanks
What fish are unable to handle Ruby Reef? I have zebra loaches which as you should know are scaleless thus they are hurt by salt, and also by some medicines. I have fish that can't handle a water temperature increase (zebra danios don't go above 26°C).
+Darian Christie I think it's fine for all fish
Edna- I am using all the products you mention because I bought new fish and got ick. I lost some of my fish and 2 of them are sterba cory which are my favorite fish. I was sooooo sad. Now I am getting a 5 gallon tank so I can Quarantine my fish. Cannot get a bigger tank cause I don't have space for it. Can I use the voogle with the ick attack together?
Yes you can
Have you tried garlic? I seen a video where you juice garlic and add it to fish food pellets let dry then feed it looked like it helped but couldn't keep up I'm trying feeding more frequently.
Great video 👍
Thanks. Yes they do make food with garlic or you can soak pellets to help boost immune sustrm
I have a loache tank with ich and I doubt any will survive. After theyre gone, if I treat the tank for a few weeks with medicine and water changes and vacuuming, can I skip removing the gravel for cleaning? I'd like to keep my tank and plants in place
I think that will suffice
I have a planted tank. I noticed ick on one my fish two days ago. Another video suggested turning up the heat. I did that. Ick seems to be no longer on the infected fish. I have not dosed anything yet, cause I don't have anything on hand. Going to go see if my LFS has what you suggested. Do I keep the temp up while I dose, and how long do I dose?
Turning the temp up will speed up the life cycle of the parasite. When the white cyst falls off the fish it hits the substrate and multiplies by hundreds. With the temp up it does this faster which allows you to use meds and have a better chance of killing it in it's free floating state in the water column. Don't use anything that has methalyne blue or green. It will stain your tank. You can just monitor your fish or try Ruby Reef kick ich. I think that's the best stuff. Hope this helps
Hey man solid video very informative. Started treating ich today, the bottle of meds I have says to dose every other day for a total of 3 treatments, should I follow that or would I get better results dosing everyday. Also, is it absolutely necessary to increase heat or med’s can be just as effective. Thanks again.
It is not necessary
My planted aquarium has ich in it, specifically 2 of my dwarf neon rainbows. I moved them to an empty 10 gallon with a sponge filter and a heater along with ich medicine. Will it useful for me to add in medication into my main tank in order to prevent ich in the future?
Yes definitely
My rams just got ich.The strong ones only have a little, but one old fellow is probably not going to make it. Also lost some cherry barbs. Interestingly enough, my rasboras are happy as heck, no ich at all. Think I brought it in on a plant.
Could br
I just discovered ick on a new fish and wouldn’t you know, it as soon as I noticed it I notice a day later 4 or 5 of my original fish contracted it. Never going to that store again. I’m gonna have to go get a heater and some meds now. New tank too about a month old just got it cycled. happy birthday to me.
