@@LuckySparkles I got like 5 or 6 phases in and then decided on the world's first shiny American pokemon box surfing pichu. The setup and hunt and ribbon run took years to accomplish after that, so I never had a chance to go back

I am shocked you said nothing. Outside of what seemed like a sigh of relief. When I caught a shiny Quagsire after failing five of them in the Great Marsh, I laughed like a maniac. If I were you I would've lost it after this hunt.

The mathematics behind the bait strategy is explained in the video. With the six bait method, you'll always average more balls thrown at Metang than without it and the odds of capture for each thrown ball is still 0.416%. Good luck! 😎

I'm really sorry to disappoint you, but I didn't actually make my game go faster. I increased the playback speed in video editing. None of my games are modded and whenever you see the gameplay being faster than normal in my videos, it's because I increased the playback speed when I was editing the video together. Congrats on finishing the hunt but i dont really get it, when people do chansey they just throw balls and hope why do u "have to" throw bait six tmes instead of just throwing balls and hoping like with chansey?? (i just wanna say im not taking anything away from the hunt i know some people do hunts specific ways like my 1% yanma im just curious about the decision before everyone bites my head off)
That's a good question. Bait usually makes it harder to catch Pokémon in the HGSS Safari Zone, but for Metang, the bait can't make the catch rate lower than the minimal catch rate of 3, which is already Metang's base catch rate. It still lowers Metang's flee rate. This increases the expected average number of balls thrown at each Metang, which also includes the ones that flee before being able to throw any balls. The average number of balls per catch attempt, with balls only, is expected to be a little over 4, since it would normally be a 23.83% chance to flee per turn, but when successfully feeding six bait, it progressively goes down to a minimal of 6.25% likelihood to flee per turn. This will make the average number of balls thrown be about 5.7 instead of barely over 4, which might not seem like much of a difference, but it actually brings the overall win rate for Metang up from 1.72% to 2.37%. That's why it's better to throw six bait before balls. In the 60 failed attempts to catch my shiny Metang, I threw 377 balls, which works out to be an average number of 6.28333 balls per attempt, which was actually higher than expected. :)
Adding onto Lucky, there is actually a bait method for Chansey in FRLG, there is a video on my channel for it that can nearly double Chansey's win rate.
