- This video is courtesy of Jackie Donehoo, who was gracious enough to send me a DVD copy of her home movies, which contains this home movie among others!
Hey everyone, here is an 8mm home movie of the Beatles' afternoon performance at the Olympia in Detroit on September 6th, 1964. This film should look a little better than what's been previously seen, as it is straight from the DVD rather than from RUclips. I have also dubbed in audio for this film from the Convention Hall broadcast tape. Unfortunately, a 4K scan of this film is not possible as the original reels have been thrown out, and this is the best quality that still exists.
I hope you all enjoy, and there is more exciting material from this DVD which will be coming soon! :) I will be releasing the raw VOB files once everything is posted as well, for archival purposes. Enjoy!

Quite unfortunate that the reels were tossed. So many footage of different bands was lost due to people transferring their reels/videos to DVD then throwing them out thinking they got the ultimate film transfer. I'm glad she sent you the DVD vobs.
It happens surprisingly often from all the filmers I’ve talked to. At the very least they had all of their films digitized, so stay tuned for three unseen films coming soon (once I finish syncing them!)

Good for you Barbara! I wish I could've been there too, but I was only 3 and 3/4 years old... But fortunately for me, this footage is around for me to see it. Thank goodness they filmed it. 😊
@@oldiesgeek454 Yeah, I was only 13 in 64 and I had to have my parents drive me down from Midland, but they let me go to the concert alone lol. In 65, they drove me all the way to Chicago to see them at Cominsky Park. In 66, I got to go back to Olympia Stadium. I think my parents realized that this wasn't a flash in the pan for me, that I had a major crush. BUT, I didn't scream and I was a bit irritated that all these girls wouldn't sit down and just listen and watch.
@@barbaraburgoyne8359 What great parents you have, to go out of their way to take you all the way to Chicago. My sister was 17 at the time, and in '64 she and a friend took a bus from LA to Vegas to see them perform. Just a few weeks later, she saw them at the Hollywood Bowl. She was like you, she got frustrated when she couldn't hear them very well either. 😊

this is a time machine bro. if u want to undestand what beatles were you need to undestand every year of the band. one day songs like "please, please me", "i want to hold your hand" and "she loves you" was revolucionary in rock n roll and in music history. probably you as a floyd fan only see value on peppers maybe abbey road and i have to say, your vision is so small about beatles and music history@@ThePFRG
@@ricardoconceicao1 I have been a diehard Beatles fan since I was 9 years old. Peter Jackson ruined the video quality of Get Back with AI tools including insane amounts of noise reduction and stabilization. The editing on Get Back is beyond terrible, using tons of duplicate/misplaced shots and not even attempting to sync the real audio to tons of the shots. His work on the Now And Then video is atrocious. Did I mention that he turned all of the Get Back footage this disgusting blue/green hue?
So, I'm very well versed, thank you. I'm not retracting my statement.

Fabulous! The Beatles could barely even hear themselves above all that screaming & there were no stage monitors with the vocals being pointed back at them yet they they still sounded great which is almost unbelievable. Even when Lennon & McCartney sing together & the volume of the microphones are the same, Lennon's voice still cuts through a little more. I've noticed that many times.
