An innocent time.
We had so much to look forward to. It was the beginning of a youth movement that the world had never seen before. Nothing lasts forever but the genius of the Beatles has.
I love how John, right from the beginning, thought lipsyncing was silly and was going to have fun if he has to stand there like a puppet.
Look what John writes at 7:40 - I Love Elvis...and in 1986 at the first inductions to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, the honor of inducting the King of Rock and Roll belonged to the sons of Elvis' biggest fan, Julian and Sean Lennon
The Beach boys played live!
You mean you haven't twigged that they've ruined this clip by putting a 'modern' recording over the top?
Sure they were miming but why the need to lose the atmosphere of the original 🤷 New doesn't mean better - soulless.
This is probably the most god-awful piece of lip-syncing fake strumming I have ever seen in my life. A marvel!
He wrote that as a joke, as if he thought the drawing of Paul was Elvis. It's not him expressing love for Elvis.
"It Won't Be Long" is one of the most underrated songs the Fab Four ever recorded.
Yep. It's a shame they never played it live (non lip-sync).
"underrated" is bogus.
"It Won't Be Long" was apparently deemed an "album track" or even "filler." But many Beatles songs in that category, along with "B" sides, were equal to their biggest hits.
John didn’t like the song much sadly but it’s a good song
I'm astonished that "It won't be Long" seemed to got lost in the shuffle... It's a total gem and every time I hear it my mind goes right back to being 9 years old in those magical early days of Beatlemania. That little re-occurring guitar riff George plays gives it the perfect touch.
This is so charming! How lucky these kids were to be up close and personal with the Beatles!! WOWZA!
Ringo dancing around with the crowd is brilliant. He hasn't changed.
Even though The Beatles are lip-syncing and miming to their recordings here, this is one of the only video performances where you can see John playing the guitar solo on You Can't Do That.
That’s right, even if 80% of it is just showing the strumming. I don’t know if any others, do you?
It’s cool that you found the whole show, rather than just their performance!
This whole episode was released on a commercially available VHS. Some parts on this video however were replaced with higher quality clips from a Laserdisc compilation. Then everything was cleaned up digitally afterwards
18:44 oh look at our super adorable Ringo with his trademark dance moves. How can a human be so cute!!!
The Beatles are the greatest ! They can perform with no pluged guitar and produce live a sound exactly same as on record. ^^
playback bruh
@@someoned188 really no way !!!
Good one. Like Bill Murray would say: "Get outta here, you knucklehead!"
BTW: it's plugged with a pair of g's. Thank you, good night.
It's the redub from this remaster. They did perform it live, and they had access to radio guitars I bet. There is a version of this with live audio.
@@someoned188 that's the joke
Best band this world will ever see. Some folk might disagree, but the world now is in such a mess, we will all be wishing we could go back in time to the swinging 60s.
Their music was like magic. It felt so good just listening to it. I was a kid in the 60’s and remember every song. They were a great escape from the intense 60’s.
Tavistock creation and frauds and good songs whoever wrote them.
I'm an American, and I appreciate seeing "Ready, Steady, Go" for the first time!! With the awesome Beatles, miming included!! Ha! So even in these relatively early days, miming was big in Britain too, eh?
yes, easier for the bands to do when they were spending a lot of time touring already. in august 1966 the musicians union banned miming on bbc shows (i think itv/granada banned it earlier in march). this was actually a very controversial decision and was publicly criticised by groups because it was 1) taxing on them with their already busy schedules and 2) becoming increasingly more difficult as pop music was developing and becoming more complex. they quickly revised it so that only the singing had to be live. this continued until the early 80s
This was a great show!
How lucky was that generation? It was before my time. I’ve been a fan since I was 10 but I never had the chance to see them live. That must have been incredibly exciting and fun!
I’m pleased that this exists on RUclips so I can watch it years later. The music has stood the test of time. Thanks!
❤
It was. Saw them in Minneapolis in 1965. Amazing
I was 10 also ....but in 1963....saw them Feb 9 1964.....also saw them live 2x in SF. ..in 65 &66...the ...last concert....in 66😺😺✌️✌️
Not since and never ever will there be a group better than the Beatles!
You do realize that this performance was lip-synced, don’t you?
At my age now, 67, I feel very privileged to have experienced the 60's through the eyes of a impressionable young boy. It seemed that everyday something new and exciting was happening. JFK, The Beatles, the "Space Race" all pointing to the future. It was go go go and I loved every minute of it!
Me too. I've heard 3 original are in Witness Protection Program. Old Paul has been doing tours for a couple of years! I'm praying they all come out soon!
John was so ahead of his time I see why their stupid questions pissed him off!! .. The hair sniffing bit was priceless!! GO JOHN!!
First time I ever heard Paul's bass line on "This Boy". Really good...!
Life in the 60's was fantastic !!
@@johnzenkin1344 besides thousands of drafted soldiers being slaughtered in Vietnam, in most aspects, especially popular music, it was a monumental time
Except for Vietnam ,civil rights,lynching ,riots,kkk,union busting,workers rights,Woman’s rights,
voters rights,racism ,
segregation..other than all that in wasn’t bad .
The ending with Ringo dancing with all the other kids.... Just wow.
This is wonderful. I so enjoyed this phase of The Beatles-they seem to be really enjoying themselves and there was an innocence to their performances. Thank you!
Just like yesterday! Shame it's over 50 years ago. Glad i was part of the beginning.
Never saw this anywhere before, brilliant and a treat, thank you.
I love how Ringo is just dancing and jacking at the end with everybody in the crowd that's just so cool.. just a different personalities add to their specialness and that definitely helped the creativity in their music you can feel all the yin and yang between Paul and John and what a gift they were to all of us and still continue to be really.. rip George and John
Have to say...old Starkey dances like a demented monkey.
The Beatles LIVE or DEAD they filled the world with joy - !
Listen to that wonderfully subtle ending of “You Can’t do That”
ringo dancing in the crowd at the end, so cool,
Just magical.
Oh what I'd give to go back all those years just to see them perform on that wonderful show.
Their early work is what I like best!!
Ringo feeling the groove on Mr. Postman. He had to dance! Bless him!
The only group that has a place in my heart. ❤
Friday evenings were great, with. Ready steady go on TV. excellent music throughout
The change in their music from 1965 to 1967 is indescribable. There’s never been a band that accomplished so much in such a short time & sustained their momentum. It’s crazy.
Exactly. They were moving it forward and many others helped, but never had music advanced so quickly. The ideas, lyrics and instrumentation took a quantum leap and we were there with it. It was a beautiful era.
I would say Radiohead were just as creative over a similar period of time
@@bourbon2242lol
I forgot to mention The Beach Boys. They had Brian Wilson as their main creative force, while The Beatles often had to get help from George Martin to be as creative as them.
It was the 60s man!
No Band compares The Beatles. The best FOREVER.
They had a fresh new sound. An original style. They didn’t sound like anybody else. This was big factor of the appeal and popularity. Plus they were so charming, funny, hip and young. They couldn’t miss becoming the next big thing. Then they became bigger than Elvis.
When Lennon said that he wanted to be bigger than Elvis, it seemed 😢😢a far fetched goal because he was a phenomenon. But they achieved it and became the GOAT because of their singing and songwriting.
And they were witty and funny in interviews! Entertaining from the beginning.
Amazing band
I love them both! Elvis was great but he was making silly movies when the Beatles broke through with the new style and sound.
Elvis did make a comeback in 68 with the Comeback TV Special.
“Fresh new sound”. Spot on. There was nothing like it before the Beatles.
@@wb1985 Aren’t they? That was the first thing I noticed. Even during the Cover sings,
I thought their vocals sounded different. They had a band chemistry that was their own.
John best friend Pet Shotton said in an interview that John Lennon told his classmates that his future band would be just as popular as Elvis and they laughed at him and teased him and nearly bullied for making such a statement. The funny thing is that John proved them wrong, Not only was the Beatles just as big as Elvis but they are still popular 53 years after they called it quits.
way better than those stretched out, 360p videos. this is great, cheers
John is so annoyingly funny! Like in almost any part (interviews & performances), with his witty remarks, antics & facial expressions!😂😂 Ringo & George tried to joke ard too!😅😅i wonder what John & George were doing at the end of the vid while Paul was signing & Ringo dancing😋😋thnx for posting, Kitsu!🌈🌸
Tks for the vídeo! Marvellous!
John always liked pushing his lowered lip out. Funny
What a pleasure watching this... John was so funny 😂
The Beatles are a genuine emotion. They are a part of me. Inseparable now really. In the end, when Paul was signing autographs for people there, I wished so badly to just be close to their presence and touch them. But then, I know that I've become one with them.🥰
So hard to believe that this is 60 years ago ( now 2024 ) . They sound so great LIVE as they do on their records. Still the GREATEST BAND EVER!
Playback... Lipsync...
They were actually brilliant live, however they’re miming on this show
Was totally cool of Ringo to be out there dancing with non-celebrities gals. I loved seeing that❣️
The girl Ringo's dancing with was a celebrity. It's the female host, Cathy McGowan.
great to see it it will be next year 60 years I saw this on tv the best groupe ever
I was 11 years old, an American devotee, and never saw this on American TV. I'm wondering if there is anyone in the audience who saw this clip. Who was that lucky lass who got to dance with Ringo? Where is she now? Does anyone have those precious signature cards still? What a wonderful slice of our lives!
The girl dancing with Ringo is co-presenter Cathy McGowan. She's still around, and now 80 years old.
Mal Evans at 18:22 keith Fordyce was an excellent presenter
Only performance of the Beatles I've seen where they weren't really live/ many shows of this time required this as most TV sound engineers had no clue as to how to amplify and present a live band.
The difference between Paul and John and how they deal with an interview is huge. Lennon's wit and humor can't be matched.
I agree. But that got him in trouble in 1966, with the BIGGER THAN JESUS COMMENT
I DON'T THINK HE RECOVERED FROM That BLUNDER.
@@victorrodopoulos1350: Why? He was right and he still is.
...... and this is how they charmed us all those years ago! On a Friday night about 6-15pm to a 12yr old boy this was amazing. Great memories of the greatest pop band ever!
Ringo is a fun guy! The way he would join in the dance. He was a good dancer.
They should have nicknamed him 'The Mushroom' !
that were the greatest decade in my life thank you fellows
that were the greatest decade ever ever ever
Oh that John ! After he’s been ‘gone’ for > 40 years , he is still CRACKING US UP !! We all still love you , John Lennon ,,, Peace
You can’t do that is one of my favorite early songs. It’s so good!
Me too. Great song with great riffs.
My sister bought me the "she loves you" single way back then...I was hooked
7:26 as they played This Boy and the Fab4 started to do their silly stuff, I kept thinking to myself, "Oh dear, why do I them so much? I can't even handle this much love now." Started missing it all although I wasn't even there that day.
Absolutely incredible!
15:58 that part is in the mini documentary of A Hard Day's Night
Yeah I’m aware
Kudos to the cameraman for PARTIALLY getting John playing lead guitar on YOU CAN’T DO THAT…..although it is mainly on his strumming hand. Towards the end you get a “through the dancers” look at a few seconds of his left hand.
Having the Beatles lip-sync and not play their instruments is kind of an insult to them. On the Ed Sullivan show they played for real and they were fantastic
I think this show was just not set up for that. Put the band in the center and have all the kids right up next to them seems to be the format.
It often depended on how much quality of sound the TV studio could produce. If the studio did not lend itself to good sound, the recommendation was to lip synch. No one lip synched on the Ed Sullivan show because that studio provided excellent sound.
Kudos to Ed Sullivan for all his musical guests playing live.
This is when George was happy and loved being a Beatle
The Beatles look magnificent. At the peak of their excitement of enjoying it.
The Musicans Union were unhappy with so many pop performers miming. Overtime Ready Steady Go was probably the only progamme by 1965 until its end where there were actual live performances. Unfortunately, many of these including Jimi Hendrix on RSG no longer exist. The last early Beatles live TV performance where they were playing their instruments, was on ABC TV's Blackpool Big Night Out in August 1965.
Yay The Beatles. Great songs on here. I love John's singing on This Boy. Their song writing is through the roof.
Agreed great vocal
What a gem💎 this is❣️ Really enjoyed it❣️
They didn't care much for lip syncing, clearly obvious lol
There's something going on between John and Alma Cogan there and Cynthia has since confirmed it was happening. Alma Cogan {who was 8 years older than Lennon} died 2 years after this and Cynthia has claimed that John only found Yoko in his grief. Cynthia also reckons that both women were Aunt Mimi replacement figures. Deep but plausible
I don't blame John. Cynthia was a bore. She was lucky John ever gave her the time of day.
@@johnnybmean74 Yes, Yoko was/is certainly "interesting." (That's not a compliment.)
Get back to 3:10 and 3:27, to see Paul guffawing at John's antics
Why cannot I live those days again? sad.
John reportedly was very much in love with Alma coogan. He was devastated when she died of cancer in 1966 I think it was.
So cool that Ringo jumped down and started dancing with people.
The Beatles still rock !!!
Great stuff, thanks for posting!
Thank you so much for this video, I've been looking for this Please Mr Postman video for John's reaction for years.
I wish they actually performed this song live.
Omg love The Beatles! ✌🏾❤

Whole lotta lip syncin goin on. Talk about payin yer dues! Now this is still, no, it's timelessly exciting. Aside from, well next to, their terrific music, the thing about the Beatles was their talent for bringing everybody in, and making us all smile SO MUCH just seeing and listening to them. Great example here, thank you!
They reckon that miming was harder to do than the real thing.
Wow! A truly original video of these chaps! Love it!
I LOVE JOHN❤❤
Eu também ❤❤❤
Obvious now, when the guitars weren't connected, that it was lipsync and you can see John's sarcastic curl of the lip. I was 16 in '64, so would have watched this live (even if they weren't playing live). We accepted it, not realising - unless you understood. However, they did play live many times on programmes in the North West. I can't remember if it was Granada or the Beeb, but they were often on playing live at teatime back in the sixties. Such a shame that video then was so expensive it was overwritten
Yes, very disappointing that they did not perform live which was they did frequently during this period. The interviews are cool but not enough to make up for the lack of a live performance.
5:16 only John or the other Beatles could do that and not make me feel awkward about it.
this is AMAZING
I kept going back to 3:10 and got teary-eyed.
Great upload. I recorded these onto vhs when they were being broadcast on channel 4 back in the 80s. Still got them too. Thanks for uploading this. Love watching these.
Love watching John having to mime, he never ever played the game.
Just the fact John made the joke and was like 'oh shit!' with her and the sign, he's too cute man!!
Greats remembering the Beatles 60s🎸🎸🎸🥁
Did you see JOHN licking his lips?? He done that on purpose to show his audience they weren't really singing the song because he absolutely hated lip-syncing..
Fabulous stuff from the Fab Four...thanks for uploading.
John is perpetually confrontational at this stage. And rightly so. He can see how silly it all is.
John's style of humor and sarcasm borders on being abrasive or even disrespectful. That, and the way he makes it so obvious that he's lip-syncing the songs, makes makes him basically the original punk, haha!
Exactly right, John Lennon was far more intelligently confrontational vs 'polite society ' in 1964 than his pale copy 'John Lydon' (Rotten) who were a joke as rebels. John Lennon would have had contempt for the pointless 'Filth and the Fury' from an original 1976 punk.@@BugRib
@@vladdrakul7851 - Hmm, I’ve never really delved into the Sex Pistols’ catalog, but I do love “Anarchy in the UK”, as well as Sid Vicious’s take on Sinatra’s “My Way”.
What do you not like about the Sex Pistols?
Anyway, now I’m feeling an urge to go check them out, haha.
John Lennon is not accepting things the way they are as "that's how it is". He wonders why are things the way they are, what is this doing to me, what do I think about all this? And because so much came onto them every day John could not keep up with digesting all this. So he kind of fled into those idiotic grimaces and spastic movements.
@@vladdrakul7851perfeitamente ❤❤❤
Keith Fordyce couldn't put people at ease, whereas Michael Parkinson (for example) made the interviewee relaxed and happy to "open up." Cathy McGowan was a good interviewer. - A "lady of the people". Fordyce was 34 but he looked much older. Not, IMO, an ideal choice for a teenage audience.
Back in the day it was compulsory to ask the Beatles stupid questions because no one knew the art of interviewing. John Lennon was all over this and relentlessly took the piss as they deserved. It was even worse in the US.
I hate so many of these US and UK shows where the bands had to ape to the record. So very few were actually live.
Just simply they had unique characters and they enjoyed what they were good at ..
There were crowds of fans around them, but they’re not getting mobbed. They still have a little room to breathe.
Wow! What a gem! Thanks for uploading the whole of it from start to finish!
LOL John Lennon The original Punk Rocker. Cheeky devil :p
16 years later Lennon was shot dead
09:45 Any fans of anarcho punk might be interested that the winner of the Art Prize is Jeremy Ratter aka Penny Rambaud of the seminal punk outfit Crass. Lennon didn't know what to make of his choices of records! Not the usual Gerry and The Pacemakers or Dave Clark Five!
Wow! That is some seriously arcane knowledge. But true all the same.
Sometimes during their television appearances, the Beatles played with a pre-recorded backing track. This isn’t to discount their genius, just to say maybe they were better as a studio band. This appearance is absolutely lip-synched. You can tell when they start that they’re pantomiming along with a recording. Ringo’s drumming isn’t even what’s being heard. There is even a moment when Lennon purposefully messes up the lip synching.
Coisa linda os Beatles!parece tão atual......tinha 10 anos nessa época, até hoje os venero!
