I lent a friend my Mardu Knights Commander deck and when they pulled an artifact tutor asked what they should be looking for... Sunforger. Always Sunforger.
9:25 Word of warning from an avid Sunforger player who had to learn this lesson the hard way: Master Warcraft does *not* let you choose who/what the creatures swing at (i.e. which players/planeswalkers), only which creatures attack and which creatures block.
It goes without saying that this card rocks in a *Feather* deck, since she recycles your targeting Instants. *Magnetic Theft* is the best first pick for Forger since it cheaply reequips the card to Feather for more searching.
I run both these in feather. Magnetic theft was put in there for sunforger but it's gotten plenty of accidental use... mainly stealing boots/greaves from my opponents to save my stuff or target there's. It's great for sunforger but also shuts down any equipment your opponents have!
Had a friend of mine attacking me with a Serra Avatar when I pulled out the Deflecting Palm, same goes for a match with a friend Storming the hell out of us. All of the sudden I won a 4-player game with Deflecting Palm.
Stoneforger was the MVP of an old Ravnica standard deck. It was basically white weenie + burn. Skyknight Legionnaire, Isamaru Hound of Konda, Savannah Lions, etc with Char and Flames of the Blood Hand. That era od standard was such a blast!
My friends make an instant Archenemy of me whenever I play Sunforger so I try not to rely that much on the card, but it's amazing. Congratulations for your Sunforger lecture, professor!
I've always loved the utility Sunforger brings but thanks Prof for convincing me even further to the point that I'm tempted to build a hidden commander deck revolved purely around tutoring for Sunforger and protecting it
I really love this video. I run a Syr Gwyn list I spent a long time making that's a vampire + knight tribal with equipment. The presentation makes me feel so comfortable that I've become really open to introducing cards you talked about and then some.
This is the first of these recommendations that I've seen that I can not only not recall anyone saying otherwise, but everyone I've seen able to stuff them in their deck has already done so.
As someone new to magic who loves red/white Boros this video is highly appreciated. I can't tell you how salty blue makes me when playing Boros, I'll definitely have to give Sunforger a chance thanks prof!
My Gisela deck is to date my favorite and has won me the most games. Every time I put out my Sun Forger, my friends freak out and make it their primary target since I have a response to almost anything. Having a player get their spell countered with with a boros deck is priceless.
Great video prof. Here some of those other cards not in this video since there would be so many. counterspell: Illumination wheel: Heartwarming Redemption end the turn spell: Glorious End land or creature removal (needs black): Wrecking Ball
This was a perfect deck tech. Thanks for the great content. It felt great having a sunforger deck that does exactly what your video showed, equipment tribal. Mine is Jeskai with Akiri Line Slinger and Ishai Ojutai Dragonspeaker partners. Mistveil plains is a gree win con, which can also lock a player out of the game with orims chant. I want to add to your list the counterspells that dovins veto, counterflux, ojutais command, suffocating blast, render silent that I find super fun when the game goes arch enemy.
I love sunforger. I played a bit before original ravnica but my first real deck that i built, based on a kitchen table draft deck, was a boros deck running sunforger and helixes and such. I'll always have a soft spot for the card even if i dont play the type of decks that would use it anymore. I still have my sunforgers from back in the day. My favorite thing to do was equip to skyknight legionnaire fetch a helix after damage.
Great Boros video Prof, keep up the great work. I've been playing with lots of equipment both in Historic on Arena and in (zoom-based) Commander with friends, and lots of great ideas here. Thanks!
I have a few of these guys gathering dust in an old deck box from my old OG Ravnica deck back in the day! Totally forgot about this awesome card ! Thanks for the Boros player PSA :D
I’d also like to add a note that if you are in more colors, your toolbox expands greatly. Since I run this in zedruu weapon saleswoman, I also get access to counterspells such as dovins veto and render silent without needing actual blue mana up.
Sunforger is hilarious in Kykar because you can basically get the red part of the RW unattach cost for the ability back every time you cast something if Kykar is out, giving you more fuel to continue as long as Kykar is on board
With this video TCC has now a place in the top 10 anime endings of all time. I've been for weeks looking for a mardu commander and my pick was between queen marchesa and syr gwyn. Now I clearly see that the equipment knight is the way to go
I love Sun Forger. I made a Shu Yun commander deck that later became Kykar for the purpose of just using Sun Forger. The flaws are that without using the more powerful tutors it can take way to long to set it up and if someone is waiting and prepared for it, it does not end well for me. It is a blast when it work though.
If you are playing Feather, Magnetic Theft lets you equip your own Sunforger at instant speed, and you can get theft with Sunforger. Feather lets you use this to not only steal your opponents’ equipment, but - with sufficient mana - access your Sunforger activations multiple times around the table (i.e. each opponents turn) by stealing your own hammer, exiling theft with feather, and throwing the hammer. Costs only 3 mana per turn and gets you whatever you need.
Another sweet card to run in a Mardu Sunforger package is Hide//Seek. It’s another redundant Wear//Tear effect, with the other half being able to rip out key cards from an opponent’s deck. It also falls exactly at four mana, two for each half.
Of all the fork red spells Sunforger can grab, my personal favorite is Increasing Vengeance. That Flashback effect can become clutch later in the game, and most everyone else forgets about it.
Sunforger is a very good toolbox card. I played it in Zurgo helmsmasher for a long time and it helped me blow blockers out of the way to deal commander damage
thanks for spreading these professor, but i mentioned this to my friend who bought the dreaded brawl gwyn deck. He did turn it into a commander deck(thank the lords)but i was shamefully denied the chance to face such a powerful artifact in the hands of noble knights(not the yu-gi-oh deck based on artifacts)but this is just confirmation on the power by the professor.
Just cause content is old, doesn't mean it's not still useful! I'm planning on building a Capt America deck assuming the spoiler is legit and Sunforger would be a perfect fit! This video was super useful for building a toolbox around it!
Thinking of adding this to my upgraded Jirina-deck. This goes well into any Mardu deck since they always run atleast anguished unmaking, return to dust, swords etc. Fetching flawless manuveur and teferis is pretty sweet also. Only problem I see is not running enough ways to tutor it. Still a good equipment to just draw though.
Ah one of favorite passtimes in my old jeskai deck was countering spells after having left up zero blue. Play things cool and they would never see it coming.
Definitely an interesting card, lots of options! Though, of course, you're not suuuuuuuper likely to draw it in any particular game of commander, it's still cool. Thanks Prof!
This is an amazing guide for helping build a Kellan deck that is based around essentially making Sunforger your commander
That's why I'm here too!
The aesthetic and production value on this video is absolutely insane.
I lent a friend my Mardu Knights Commander deck and when they pulled an artifact tutor asked what they should be looking for... Sunforger. Always Sunforger.
Are you talking Syr Gywn? I play her more focused on Sunforger than knights. My favorite commander deck.
Eli Monnig my favorite commander as well, really surprisingly flexible deck that can handle many situations
I run it in a mardu reanimator Alesha deck
in my syr gwyn deck there is a Sword of the Animist for the ramping card draw
@@asingularstick9381 ill have to try that. I built Jirina Kudro humans recently but would like to use Syr Gwyn sometime
9:25 Word of warning from an avid Sunforger player who had to learn this lesson the hard way: Master Warcraft does *not* let you choose who/what the creatures swing at (i.e. which players/planeswalkers), only which creatures attack and which creatures block.
But you can have your creatures target a planeswalker and have no blockers.
It's great for sunforger but also shuts down any equipment your opponents have!
wow Prof, your really outdid yourself with those transitions.
A guy called Patrick did them, according to the credits
Patrick is very talented. They do some awesome work
Best play I did with Sunforger so far, Deflecting Palm for lethal damage.
Had a friend of mine attacking me with a Serra Avatar when I pulled out the Deflecting Palm, same goes for a match with a friend Storming the hell out of us. All of the sudden I won a 4-player game with Deflecting Palm.
Beat you with a Boros Charm for lethal,.. against 3 life total xD
People are MASSIVELY sleeping on deflecting palm, especially in tall metas.
“If your opponent has an annoying Teferi, Time Raveler in play in other words a Terferi, Time Raveler”
Zero lies detected
Stoneforger was the MVP of an old Ravnica standard deck. It was basically white weenie + burn. Skyknight Legionnaire, Isamaru Hound of Konda, Savannah Lions, etc with Char and Flames of the Blood Hand. That era od standard was such a blast!
I was building my Feather deck, and I forgot to set scryfall to instants only, and found the card. I am kinda in awe this card isn't used more
It was my all time favorite card as a kid. I played it so much back during Ravnica City of the Guilds
I read "The Best Boros Card..." and immediately knew it was Sunforger. So good!
4:09 I hear "Karn, the great Curator". I dunno if it's on purpose, but along with his toolbox designs, it's a great way of naming him(it?) ;-)
If he's a curator he's doing a bad job, new phyrexia and all that.
All hail the New Father of Machines
Prof this video was so so good!! The animations were top notch and the whole case for the card was laid out beautifully. Thank you as always :)
My friends make an instant Archenemy of me whenever I play Sunforger so I try not to rely that much on the card, but it's amazing. Congratulations for your Sunforger lecture, professor!
sunforger is the key piece in my Syr Gwyn deck. Everything is based on that card, as it's an aggro control deck
Do you have a decklist you can share? I’m really enjoying my swr gwyn Voltron deck the aggro strategy is really fun.
Same here 😀
Aggro or control? It's not both, if it's both is neither
Im showing my younger brother this video. He has a Feather deck
Be sure to include *Magnetic Theft* in the deck. Trust me, bro.
Magnetic theft is insane. Steal your own hammer.
Was in the process of making my feather deck when he posted this hopped in my car and went straight to my LGS to pick one up
This feels like a rhystic studies video, but with your own unique spin on it. Nice video prof!
My Angel's grace final fortune combo, Been doing this for years!
I love casting Teferi's Bathroom Break
When I decided that I'll build a Feather deck, this was the first card that came into my mind. Always worth it.
Just to let you know, if you read this, this has given me a new perspective on my equipment deck. Thank you so much
I've always loved the utility Sunforger brings but thanks Prof for convincing me even further to the point that I'm tempted to build a hidden commander deck revolved purely around tutoring for Sunforger and protecting it
The pack Sunforger + Chance for Glory has won me a significant amount of games. Love it!
Holy hell im early to this video, sunforger is one of my favourite cards ever
this is super. favorite format of video. single card deep dives and build arounds? count me in.
The overall layout and pace felt great in this vid! Good job
Sunforger is one of those cards that continues to get better with time. Final Showdown and Flare of Solitude come to mind.
I really love this video. I run a Syr Gwyn list I spent a long time making that's a vampire + knight tribal with equipment. The presentation makes me feel so comfortable that I've become really open to introducing cards you talked about and then some.
i literally started making a boros deck last night......i swear prof is always in my head!!!! great video as always. some great recomendations
This is the first of these recommendations that I've seen that I can not only not recall anyone saying otherwise, but everyone I've seen able to stuff them in their deck has already done so.
EDHRec only shows it in 10% of decks it could be in. So your circle is definitely ahead of the curve.
You buried the lead here prof... one of the reasons Mistveil Plains is so damn good with Sunforger can get it with Tithe!
I have been thinking about building a deck around this card for so long and having no idea where to start. Thank you for this Lecture Professor.
You can also get Guttural Response as a counterspell
That sequencing tip at 7:58 is clutch
Boros is my favourite color duo. Very happy to see it gaining attention from you, Professor :D
Thanks again Prof, Love the finesse of sunforger. Use it in my Knights deck .. Very useful.
Doing same. Sir Gwen.
Just what I needed prof, thanks a lot!
Great video prof. Here some of those other cards not in this video since there would be so many.
counterspell: Illumination
wheel: Heartwarming Redemption
end the turn spell: Glorious End
land or creature removal (needs black): Wrecking Ball
Isn't this the 2nd time Prof has done a vid about this card? He loves it!
Wow, the editing is smooooth ;p
Thanks for this! I know the uphill struggle too well. And then tripping and falling down the hill.
This is the kind of content I crave!
I used to use this card in standard back in the day and it was very successful. One of my favorite cards of that era, along with Wild Ricocet.
Sunforger pulled me in with the premade Boros Ravnica theme deck yeaaars back
EVERYONE ONE OF MY DECKS IS A SUNFORGER DECK. No, I'm not kidding.
Should be able to sell off you sunforger right away haha
Your vids from when you were mainly boros are why I own the card.
And you sir are the reason why i stuck with boros when i was about to lose hope!
I'm surprised more people aren't on this video because of you.
Yoooo. My brother in Boros.
Perfect timing. Just started picking sunforger targets for my Syr Gwyn commander
i use sunforger to tutor counterspells in my Karona aikido deck :D
Sunforger always was and is one of my favorite card. It's awesome and super fun.
This was a perfect deck tech. Thanks for the great content.

Really killing it on the production values lately Prof!
*vigorously taking notes for Feather deck
Scryfall has a great search of eligible cards for anyone curious, attached to its page. If you can't find it,
type:instant cmc
The editing was amazing Prof!
That music is funky, prof. I also like your sound pops. Nice work.
Like many said, the editing on your decktechs/guides are awesome!
I love sunforger. I played a bit before original ravnica but my first real deck that i built, based on a kitchen table draft deck, was a boros deck running sunforger and helixes and such. Great Boros video Prof, keep up the great work. I've been playing with lots of equipment both in Historic on Arena and in (zoom-based) Commander with friends, and lots of great ideas here. Thanks!
My goodness I love that card kykar never rides to battle without his favorite blade.
I have a few of these guys gathering dust in an old deck box from my old OG Ravnica deck back in the day! Totally forgot about this awesome card ! Thanks for the Boros player PSA :D
Introduced this card to my commander play group with my Samut deck. She became well feared shortly after.
I just got a sunforger today. Then this video comes out. Great timing :)
I’d also like to add a note that if you are in more colors, your toolbox expands greatly. Since I run this in zedruu weapon saleswoman, I also get access to counterspells such as dovins veto and render silent without needing actual blue mana up.
Beautiful intro and overall quality in the video!

I love sunforger, very fun to have in a Jeskai commander deck with a little sunforger counterspell package
Thank you for this video, it helped me a lot at brewing my current trynn & silvar deck 👍

>Shows gigantosaurus instead of dreadmaw
This makes me want to play Aven Mindcensor, Stranglehold, Ashiok Dream Render, and even Mindlock Orb in more of my decks.
this is some high quality content right here i tell you fkn what mate
The Prof laying down good knowledge as always.
Of all the fork red spells Sunforger can grab, my personal favorite is Increasing Vengeance. That Flashback effect can become clutch later in the game, and most everyone else forgets about it.

Really well made man! Loved the video

4:27 RIP Mycosynth Lattice in Modern 😪
Alternate title:
If Sunforger could be your Commander
Great Video Prof :3
Hey this is like every card I play!
This is convincing me more and more to go dig up that Firesong & Sunspeaker I got from Dominaria.
Good video!
i started experimenting with the card as i built my feather deck and boy is the prof correct that its a must have
Btw, the production value of this video is awesome
I have a Zurgo Helmsmasher Voltron deck that is built around Sunforger, so many of the cards shown are in there.
Always liked sunforger, good vid :)
Nice! I was looking for ways to improve my Archangel Avacyn edh. I already run Sunforger but needed more options on spells to cast
Yessss!!! Firesong and Sunspeaker LOVES Sunforger
"It's hammer time!" --Every Boros player ever.
This video was very helpful. Thank you very much!
4:12 "Karn, the Great Curator" Is that a Doctor Who reference I spy?
Ah one of favorite passtimes in my old jeskai deck was countering spells after having left up zero blue. Play things cool and they would never see it coming.
Definitely an interesting card, lots of options! Though, of course, you're not suuuuuuuper likely to draw it in any particular game of commander, it's still cool. Thanks Prof!
