Wow that's awesome. Good to see you adding more fish. There should be no problem with a spike in ammonia. I usually just add prime. There should be plenty of beneficial bacteria established. Love your aquarium.
I actually think overall this is a better selection for my taste with these crazy fish. I was kinda wishing I had more haps and fewer peas before. I didn’t want to get here the way I did, but since it happened, I’m happy to bring these guys into the family. I also really feel like they’ll be prettier since they are from Ron’s. I mean I loved Steve Holt and all, but he was usually on the plainer side until he’d go on a hot streak for a few hours. Thanks for watching!
Thanks for telling us how you do it! If Ron's keeps sending me fish that have never had other fish introduced to their tanks, I might not practice the quarantine either with larger shipments. If it's just a few, then I probably will just because I think adding them directly to a tank full of mature and aggressive fish directly after the stressful experience of shipping could make for a difficult transition to my tank. When there are a lot of them, it's less likely one will be picked out for destruction by the other inmates.
You’re welcome! Yes I was very impressed. Of course one of the reasons I am excited about ordering from Ron’s is the coloring of the fish, but that won’t come for a while for most of them. But I’ve seen other people’s fish from Ron’s and they are superb. Those people also keep good water conditions too, of course. Thanks for the comment!
I added 10 haps on a Monday and 15 more two days later. It has been a month with no problems. My entire setup was a year old and full of mbunas. I moved the mbunas out a couple days prior, so it handled the bioload perfectly. I also have house plants in fish breeder boxes to protect the roots that are doing great. I made a rookie mistake though. I had added fish to my cart to research, hadn't gotten to the end of the list, and then came back a week later forgetting that I hadn't finished. I got so excited that a couple fish that I wanted were available, added them to the cart, and checked out. When I printed off the list, I realized I had bought a Malawi trout and a Livingstoni! I will eventually have to rehome them...
Christmas has come early for you my friend!...I love all your new additions and am so happy for you as if the shipment had been my very own haha! I'm also very happy that you have a Furc mk 11, it was the one fish that really needed to be re-bought!
Aw thank you! I am so happy with these new guys. I can’t wait for them to settle in. That Furc was SUPER expensive, so I had to think long and hard on it. My wife actually talked me into it, and I am so happy. He seems a lot more with it than Furc II so far. Thanks for always watching and being so thoughtful!

I love the Victorians!! I have plans after Christmas for another order from Ron’s. Mkoda white lip is on the list and my wife wants more yellow in the tank so we’ve thought about a lab because of your lone mbuna ! Thanks for the videos !
I love them too!! They add such a unique character and appearance to the tank. The mdoka is really interesting and I’m sure most of your guests will be drawn to him. I hope you get a yellow lab. I just adore those guys.
I LOVE all your new Nut Jobs they should add a lot of sweet color to this tank, OK "Icarus" for sure that's a great name, now I'm holding my breath waiting to hear all about the problem you spotted., hoping it all turned out ok for you! Good job on finding the best fish for this 240 gal tank, well in my opinion hahaha!
Thank you! Polly, a viewer suggested Boo for the mbuna. I don’t know why I like it so much, but I think a little yellow mbuna with a cute face named Boo would be cute. What do you think?
Very nice fish (all of them)! If you were going to add any more, may I suggest a sand diver and a Malawi trout. Both are relatively peaceful and get more beautiful with age! Keep up the great work sir!
Thanks for the suggestions! I love both, but they get SO BIG. Both can wind up around the 14” mark, and I would want my tank width and length to be greater than what I currently have.
I understand sir. One other fish that is a stunner when fully chipped is the star sapphire, super chill. I love the fish that you already have as well. Cheers.
Congratulations on the new additions to the family, love the hawklecipes there amazing, just jealous they’re not available in Australia as I’d love to breed them here. Well done
Now I agree with your aggression ratings, however, fuscos have a 50/50 rep for being BAD boys 😁😁 mine is chill but my Livingstonii keeps him at bay - interested to see how he does in Alcatraz! Can’t wait to see the updates!
@@CichlidCharmer everyone warned me that when my Fusco gets big he will turn into an absolute menace and killer - never seen him act anything like that though. My Frontosa and peacocks are the meanest by a mile 😂
I’m so glad you got a Mdoka white lips, I was actually gonna recommend you get one a few vids ago but felt it’s none of my business 🤣 just know that they get WAY bigger than it says online, especially in a big tank like Alcatraz that guy could definitely grow to 10 inches, can’t wait to see him grow, they are super peaceful in my experience and very active and absolutely stunning
Oh no, I always love hearing suggestions and comments - please don’t think it’s none of your business. I have a red tail shark because of someone’s suggestion, and a pleco for my driftwood. Thanks for the info on the white lips. 10” is fine for me. I think I am done with adding fish unless something outrageously cool pops up. I do have another guy I bought locally in the 75 waiting to come over though. Oh, and I have NO peacocks right now, and I’d like to add a ngara flame tail.
Back when I kept malawi cichlids, I had a tank with 42 mid to large males in the tank, a guy was breaking down his set up that had 35 full grown adults .. guess what I did! I added them all to my tank, doubling the stock lol. Never had an issue, just fed sparingly the first week as beneficial bacteria can reproduce extremely fast in an established tank. :)
I’m so glad you shared this. We kind of all just learn as we go. When you research, you’ll find 50/50 arguments. One says your fish are as good as dead, and the other says it’s exaggerated. Thanks for sharing your experience!
@@CichlidCharmer not a problem! I’m sure you will be fine! Just monitor and do an extra water change if needed. But I’d bet you won’t notice any hiccups.
I ordered my fish from Tampa bay cichlids. It's been a month now and all are OK and growing. My order were all juvenile because I couldn't afford the prices on the big ones. I can't imagine what you paid for your beautiful fish.😊
In my experience if they are less than three inches it’s pretty tough to sex the fish, so keep an eye on them as they mature. Yeah I like saving the money on the smaller guys - always have until now, but I wanted to get Alcatraz back to a good place in a hurry. I was grateful for the guys that made it from my disaster, but it was still kinda depressing seeing the tank so barren.

@@CichlidCharmer lmao very early Christmas lol. The red points get between 4 to no bigger than 5-6 inches with females being smaller. They are the more calmer relative of the convict.
I usually also prefer smaller fish usually, but I’ve seen Ron’s fish in some friends’ tanks and I am happy that I was able to get these guys. I feel great having very little doubt that I have the best of the best with them.
