I love reading the comments of people whop clearly don't know what they are talking about. First off...Gary was likely the "best" all round guitar player, of the past 45-50 years. He could play circles around all the greats. He also took much inspiration from the greats, Gallagher,Clapton, Green, Beck, Kossoff, Hendrix probably Page as well and countless others. What makes Gary brilliant is that he was able to draw on those influences and blend that with his own style (attack, aggression, vibrato, tone) and make truly incredible music whether it was rock or blues. He get's crap from many people here on YT for being a wanna be. Are you serious? Yes, please let's compare him to SRV or Hendrix one more time understanding of course that there really isn't a comparison to be made as both SRV & GM are channeling very different schools of the blues. In a race I'd call it dead even but for me Texas Strut proves to me Gary was equally versed in the Texas blues, whereas I don't hear much of the Briitish blues in SRV aside from VooDoo Chile..thats not I dig, but rather I just don't hear it. In fact..Still Got The Blues record proves that GM could really delve into any vain of the blues you could come up with. That said and anyone who is a guitarist will likely support this statement, Gary..surpassed all of the greats, all of his influences in all aspects of his playing and composition. It is an incredible body of work. Had he ever gotten support or publicity here in the states back in the 80s he would have been formidable opposition to EVH. Had Randy Rhodes not died he too would have pushed the almighty EVH out of the spotlight to some degree. Gary & Randy were both more advanced than the rest of the field. In their absence from earth we are still realizing just how brilliant GM, SRV & RR were. There is no more comparison. Gary took what all the masters had done before and by incorporating it into his style elevated it all into another sphere. Even Joe Bonamassa as great as he is can't rival this.
I'm in my 60s now and iv seen thousands of players ,both amature and professional in my life, many good ones too! But I never heard one who could make a guitar sing quite like Robert william Gary moore, he was born to play..Miss you big nan🎸❤🎶
I'm really tired of rankings, ready and go, opinions in search of the best of the best. I thank Gary Moore for honoring Peter Green without standing in front of anyone or competing with him. Thanks to Gary M - Jimi H - Peter G - Paul K - S.Ray V - Jimmy P - Buddy G - Muddy W - Rory G - B.B.K - J.L.H and everyone else who pumped blues in my veins. Art involves, does not divide.
Just how does it get any better than this? No way....plays with power, depth, and feeling....truly in his own dimension....we're lucky he shared with us. Very sad to me that he's gone now........
A duet with Peter, Danny or Jeremy, unfortunately that never happened. Jeremy is still with us. I only got to see Gary a couple of times, once with Greg Lake and once with his own band - but never the Greeny concerts. But at least we have recordings.
OBR, thanks for posting. What an incredible show that was. You know, all the great ones have something that the others didn't. Jeff Beck, SRV, EVH. Gary Moore was one of those. His tone, vibrato. his speed, dynamics. All the hallmarks of a nutritious breakfast for a generational badass like Gary Moore. His greatness is undeniable and he followed his muse at the expense of fame. It was no secret that he didn't like playing in the states. I hear he lost a lot of equipment to theft. And I think there were some other British guitar players that coveted that Les Paul that Peter sold him for next to nothing and that rubbed them the wrong way. But Gary could not be denied. When he played the solo on "While my Guitar Gently Weeps" with George Harrison, he kicked down the door. Every guitar player has a favorite player that makes you say, man I wish I could play like that. There are so many players that I absolutely love, but Gary is my guy. God Bless.
Peter Green exhibits a direct connection between his heart, hands his fingers and a higher power. Peter was great to Gary because he saw the talent. Peter was and is the greatest white Blues guitarist ever. Gary understood that Peter was the one white guitarist that lived the pain of the Blues. I love Gary's playing and tribute to Peter. We all know Gary is playing "Greeny" which was gifted to Gary. Gary was to return the guitar if Peter asked for it back, Gary privately told a friend that Peter will never get the guitar back even if he requested it back. Gary did not possess the lack of ego and giving of The Green God. We can still enjoy his playing even though he did not possess the gift of singing or song writing that Peter possessed. Guitarist that play Peter's music are blessed with some of the best tunes to reach a higher level.
Im 26 years old been listening Gary Moore since I was 16 and I thank both my parents for getting me into this man absolutely love his guitar playing just an utter genius I cannot imagine what it would of been like to witness this guitar player live back in the day. The only musicians I'm graced with today is shit like Miley Syphillis , Lady Doo Dah , Justin Fuckface God what it would of been like to grow up around this man what a true true legend !.
Well done James nice 2 c a young man ov ur age looking at the Jack ov all styles and master ov them all. Just the best ever period. My name's paul I live in Swansea saw Gary 27 times from 1979 2 2010 met him 5 times. Still got every ticket poster and programme over that 31 year period. Been 2 pay my last respects at his grave 3 times will always miss him glad I've got those amazing memories. Never stop listening 2 the master. Cheers
Yes I was lucky to have seen Peter Greens Fleetwood mac play at Bath City's football ground. Not a sellout but Peter played great. Good that Gary kept his music alive. Sad that both of them are not with us today.
It’s fine you’re excited but lots of people can play stuff Gary could not and vice versa. He mastered his instrument for his purpose. “Better” is meaningless term in music unless you can define better at what and it’s something fairly quantifiable you’re talking about. And no, “better at guitar” is not a meaningful answer. But it’s fine that you’re excited about the playing he was a great musician.
Gary Moore = So humble.. bringing Peter Green out was a touch of class, I'm glad I've grown up having known Gary Moore's music and his covers.... and it only gets better the older I get!
Lucky to see him twice but the day a friend text me saying have you seen that Gary Moore died broke me. The perfect guitarist in my opinion be it blues, jazz, rock, metal, he could make the guitar scream, talk and cry in every style. I was lucky enough to play some of his songs in front of his family and they told me he would have been proud! I cried when I got home from that gig and still do when I think about it! RIP Gary!
Listened to most blues players, have all of Peter greens and SRV etc, never really bothered to listen to Gary Moore. In the words of Del Boy... You plonker. Beautiful blues.
Always loved (and still do) Garry Moore. He was a great blues 💙 musician. I've gone to countless blues shows. I was fortunate enough to see Gary in Europe. Amazing ! He played right in the pocket that night it was a beautiful experience. RIP Gary.
One of the MOST UNDERRATED GUITARIST OF ALL TIME, GARY DESERVES TO NAMED ,(AS ONE OF THE BEST OF THE BEST),MAN HE KNOWS THAT FRETBOARD LIKE ITS PART OF HIM, HIS HEART AND SOUL.R.I.P. GARY , and HE SINGs GREAT.
My all time favourite guitar player artist, much to be learnt from this incredible versatile one off genius! Gary you left a body of work that will blow generations over and over.....
Music is for everyone and those who criticize others comments are just spoiling for arguments. Let us all enjoy music in our way. 😊 THIS is awesome!! RIP Gary Moore. 💔 You are deeply missed. 🎸
Gary Moore was the greatest guitar player bar none, he could play anything, any style, always gave it 100%. Yeah he did some dodgy stuff he admitted it a few times. To see him play live was a thing to behold, I`m from Belfast and saw him four times, your ears buzzed and squealed for days after, but it was worth it.
Gary did live celebrations to Peter Green, Phil Lynott and Jimi Hendrix showing us how great those guys truly were. About time he was repaid with the same. Truly one of the greats. Bonamassa there is a challenge for you.
When l go to to heaven, l want the best seat of the house with Gary Moore playing and Ami Winehouse taking lead vocals. Now THAT would be something else.
Got the Blues for Greeny album. Such a real treat to hear a skilled guitarist honour one of our British greats. Never got into the Fleetwood Mac vibe after he left.
Gary moore in one multis faces talents ,the Blues ! the true! gary is forever in long and immortaly legends Music !!!! r.i.p. dear idol, your music in my heart . jackyfan ➕🔥respect. french.
Very interesting To watch and listen this kind of virtuous... If u are not dead, i am sure this MUST let you feel something... Gary is Master of his sound, and makes everything sutch great, effordles, sometimes Very simple and also handles his gear, and really makes guitar To scream, and everytimes he also is Master of feedback, and have great sense of melody, and notes that are not not played... He performs always like In the edge, i mean he seems not To be afraid of little precense of danger... MUST TO LOVE this kind of player.... GENIUS is he surely... Please, give him plenty of solo-time!!! 😂🤩🎸🎼🎵🎶🎵
WE ARE AT A TIME THAT THE GREATEST MUSICIANS ARE PASSING ON. I AM HAPPY TO SAY THAT I HAVE SEEN QUITE A LOT OF EM, BUT IT COULD HAVE BEEN A LOT MORE. 😢❤
This is maybe his best gig. It really meant something to him and, where he could be a bit over the top sometimes in concert (by his own admission), here he is restrained and tasteful, and plays and sings with real feeling. It also helps that the band is magnificent.
♥🔥🎸🍋☀☮🌍Finally I could find this guitar played in live for one of the greatest of all time ever! I dedicate the entire concert to my dream girl, the magical nymph Anastasia!
Wooow that sound is all in my brain, I love your sound with greeny or stripe, or his red Strat no matter what guitar he played everything sounds great. Great great great Gary live forever in the blues music
I was hooked on Gary's playing from his broken short stint in Thin Lizzy. I ,sadly, never saw him live. Hes in a class all his own. When i have watched him live and his fretboard fingering absolutely amazing and astonishing. What he does with the index to middle finger stretch, i can bare get with my ring finger. I also recently learned he was left-handed yet plays right-handed. He puts every ounce of his energy in every note.
Love the Guitar tuning during .Need your Love so Bad.. no pressure Gary.. sings ,performs and tunes his guitar..before the solo ( start 25.67- 28/11). Real Pro. !!!
The won
Ever since 1967, i've loved Peter Green for his work with Mayall, and Fleetwood Mac. His playing was so tasteful, and sensetive, one of the best white bluesguitarist ever. Here Gary More equals him like no one else. Gary was a fantastic player, a master of the fretboard. I hope he's jamming with Jimi and Robert Johnson somewhere. What a great gig that would be.
The one and only Gary Moore nobody comes close ,I’ve been listening to this man’s music for over 40 years and still discovering new music by him, his back catalogue is truly amazing
My wife and I had the immense pleasure of seeing Gary play live in Manchester, England. Greeny's Les Paul was carried on stage by two security guys. Cool as fuck!
Ok does anyone else out there on planet earth feel this like I do?❤if yes rejoice cause you have a heart and feeling if not I'm sorry I feel sorry for you! Love you Gary, love you so much Peter and Jeff Brown, well❤❤❤❤❤
I was there at this show. But just before the encores i had to take the last bus home. And the next day i read that peter greene appeared on stage and was in the house during the show. Shit. Dont ever take the last bus. Wait for the show is over. 👍👍👍
Wow...I wish I was there. "Love you so bad".... How in the world...Gary makes a Les Paul...sound so sweet. Just out of this world with tone control. Like ...I said..wish I was there....to see this magical tones of Gary Moore. You are one lucky few who were lucky to catch Gary In England.
Many, Many thanks for the upload of this video and the time taken doing so Gary Moore's guitar work is beyond any thing on this planet in my opinion, unbeatable, unrepeatable and currently unreplaced Once again thanks for time taken doing this video ✨😄👍
Was in killer form on this night with a hot backing band, so many tasteful lick, speed, great feel and a vocal to go with that, knocked it right out of the park, some gig to have been sitting in the front row or anywhere in that venue, outrageously good .

Agreed. Speed, Feel and so varied. The best guitarist I've ever had the pleasure of hearing.
Just enjoy the music and don't worry about what other people think. It's not important.
Gary Moore: The BEST electric guitar blues player there EVER was!!!
My faves were Paul Kossoff, Gary Moore,Jimi Hendrix,Robin Trower, Robben Ford, Frank Marino & Mahogany Rush

And on peter green's guitar- I ask you !

Superb, and played on THAT guitar, I hope Kirk Hamnet keeps Greeny safe for the next generation too.
Never saw this before brilliant player no matter what genre he played

Dave Beck....your comment begs for me to argue and disagree....but, alas, I can't.
Good day sir!

You cannot mistake the unique sound of that wonderful Gibson, it has a soul all of it's own.
Agree...of course it got the magic touch of it's owner...Gary Moore. The only one who can make the guitar sings to its fullest potential.
Pete's old guitar.
The crazy thing is, it has made Kirk Hammett a better player. That damn guitar is magic.
Yeah,he made his red strat 'talk' particularly on Blues for Jimi ,(check it out on you tube) .He did Hendrix better than Jimi fantastic gig.
My God the thought he's gone is staggering there's so much talent wrapped up at at an early age

R I P Gary Moore.. nobody played the Blues like You.. !
❤🎉✌️🤏👆✊️🤝
When God want to listen to better blues guitar tone with so much emotion and feels, he created Gary Moore ..

The one and only Gary Moore nobody comes close ,I’ve been listening to this man’s music for over 40 years and still discovering new music by him, his back catalogue is truly amazing
fantastic stuff, Gary was superb, one of the all time greats. acoustic guitar on the opening is a Lowden
My wife and I had the immense pleasure of seeing Gary play live in Manchester, England. Greeny's Les Paul was carried on stage by two security guys. Cool as fuck!

So Greene and B.B. King . And that VOICE !
What a powerfful sound he's got ...love this man !!!
PETER GREEN RIP.NICE GUITAR
Was in killer form on this night with a hot backing band, so many tasteful lick, speed, great feel and a vocal to go with that, knocked it right out of the park, some gig to have been sitting in the front row or anywhere in that venue, outrageously good .
THANK YOU FOR THIS! The guitar's name is GREENY. The name of the album is 'blues for GREENY" Famous guitar played by many GREAT musicians.
A legend for ever !! And amazing guitarist !🪕🎸🎸RIP💔
Very missed ,he played with such verosity and passion...
Sublime.
