  • In this easy color collage art ideas video I will show you how I use simple collage art supplies to get to an interesting abstract collage composition. I look at the quilts of Gee’s Bend, Alabama, for inspiration. I also repurpose old paintings and upcycle art, in fact I make an art collage, just by looking at Gee’s Bend quilts. Collage art ideas are all around you. I show you some upcycling inspiration. You can chose to make a color collage or color collage art and the easiest idea is to go for abstract collage.

Albert, I think this is one of your best videos. I’m a big fan of Gees Bend work and collage. That last piece with the repeated leaflet images is a knockout! Thanks for terrific ideas.

I just discovered your channel and it's AMAZING!! My 6yo and I did this project tonight using a stack of "messed up" paintings we would've discarded. They came out great and I can't wait to do more. My son's school doesn't do formal art classes so I'm using your channel for ideas. Thank you for making art so accessible. We are so excited to try Pollock style so we can get messy!

Oh Megan, you make my day! Wonderful to hear you and your 6yo are doing art. It's such a gift to small kids and their development. I'm glad I can help, there's loads of fun stuff to do but also enough ideas to go outside and explore the world with new eyes. Have fun and happy painting, Albert

Our adult children watch RUclips videos and then call me with "Mom, can you show us how to do that?" I need to demonstrate this technique for them. Thank you, Albert.

Hi Jacqueline, thanks, I love to hear this, I like it too. I'm already looking forward to September to finally get a group together again after 18 months of pandemic restrictions. Albert

I love working with restrictions. At one time I volunteered at an art materials recycling depot, where people brought their left over scraps or unused items of any sort that they thought could be used for art in some way. Often it was families emptying the sewing/art/work room of their Oma who had passed on, and the items were just so interesting. It was very inspirational. Limits and restrictions fire the imagination.

Hi Pat, thanks and I agree. Limiting or restrictions hive more room to play, I get more creative. Leftovers or old artwork is also interesting to work with. I can imagine you had a wonderful time. Albert

Good Sunday morning! I live about an hour and a half from Gee's Bend. I am also a quilter. In my family, the art of quilting has been passed down through the generations. The beauty of quilts is taking what one might think is a lot of nothing and make something beautiful from it. I love to use painting scraps and making something new. I love what you did with what we call "junk mail" another great way of using something that is a nuisance and making it into something beautiful. Another great video with great explanations. Have a wonderful week.

Hi Rebecca, thanks. Yes you told me the other day you live in Alabama, I thought you might know Gee's Bend quilts. I really love the community vibe in the video of Gee's Bend. And it is all really about appreciation of materials and training your eye and mind to see what you can do. I'm glad you like the video. Have a wonderful day, Albert

Hi Albert. As usual, rich and inspiring content and instruction. For collage I use anything that comes my way including carton boxes, potato burlap bags, gift wrapping paper, prints of photos I took, tree leaves, seashells, twigs, old paintings, fabrics, etc. My wife complains of the junkyard I made in the basement/my studio. One collage artist that inspires me in this vein is Roberto Burri; a once Italian WW2 pow, the only thing that he was able to use to create art was fabrics and rejects that he found in his interment camp in U.S.A. you will be nicely surprised at what the artwork that he stood to create of the so little he had available. Thanks so much for the clip and as always I am looking forward for the next one.

Hi Salim, thanks. I recognize your wife's reaction. Sometimes I collect materials for my painting course and collect 15 sets, 1 for each participant. Nice to clear it out when the lesson is finally their.
I looked for Roberto Burri, but I guess you mean Alberto Burri. Unfortunately I can't get a book from the library, would love to see some images. For this lesson I wanted to use easy to obtain materials, not everyone lives at the beach, or the forest for interesting materials. Bye, Albert

In the Western US we have weed fragments called tumbleweeds. Individually, they look like small trees. I save them and keep them on shelf in my studio, as reference for when I want to paint a tree.

I liked watching this as my grandmother used to make a lot of quilts, and I think she may have had quilting parties back in the day as a social activity with other women. I'd like to try my hand at collage too, and have done a few of them, although I'd like to do more. It's an interesting way to create art and recycle. I don't know if you've seen this YT video on Eunice Parsons, but I found it inspirational as well: ruclips.net/video/cNvnberrCAI/видео.html
