@crofts lucy no, I keep sort of a minimalist studio - and I worry what the Mexican heat would do to a gelli plate. But I'd love to try it at someone's studio sometime!
I really needed this video. I'm with hubby at a transplant house for months & my creativity is sparse. So i bought a gelli plate, some Golden paints, & some tissue paper. But now, after making 50 billion pages, I discovered your wonderful video. You'll give me hours more of art therapy. Thank you sooooo much!
I'm grateful to have inspired your creativity - especially in such a difficult time. Wishing you and your hubby well. It is so healing to be able to create during these times.
Hi Lisa, Newbie from Virginia here! Your video popped up in my que at the most oppertune time!! I am a mixed media artist, whose muses have packed up and hit the road, leaving NO note as to when they "might" return, if EVER... This video gave me a spark of hope, that I am eternally grateful for!!!!! I am desperate to get into abstract collage and this video was the kick in the pants I needed without knowing it!!! Thank you for sharing this with us and I look forward to subscribing with all notifications so I don't miss a thing!!! Have an awesome week!!!!! ❤😊❤
Finally found someone with the sense to create collage papers from your recycling. Its amazing how many artists out there use fresh copy paper🤔. Thanks for the inspiration and confirming what I have been doing for a while now, I also use inks and almost any pigment I can find. Its most satisfying when you finish of an ancient tube of paint and create an interesting page.😀😀😀
I think sometimes completely blank paper is necessary if your paint isn't opaque or covering everything, but we should definitely do more reusing of trash
I love paper art but have never considered myself a painter. I see so many collage artists using their painty papers and I have paid for so many digitals. You have given me courage to try. This was very informative and you make it look not only simple but non-intimidating and freeing. I am going to try my first papers this weekend! Thank you!!
So wonderful to hear! My whole approach to art is as a process, and to make is accessible to everyone, and demystify art supplies. I hope you love making your collage papers!
This was exciting to see. Eric Carle did a similar process of painting paper he used for collage. It was really inspiring and I loved the child like creativity in it.
Thank you for these exciting ideas - can’t wait to try them. Your handmade collage papers are unique, intriguing, & a personal expression of you! So cool.
Who would think splashing and slathering color on paper would be inspiring? Yet it is! lol. I have a gel plate etc, but I have done some of what you are doing and I find it relaxing and inspiring. I had just forgotten until now. Thank you, Lisa.
⭐️✨❤️Emojis galore! 😄 I could sit here here all day watching you paint, Lisa. I’ve always been curious about your handmade collage papers as I’ve heard you mention them before. This was awesome. Now I know what to do with my orange paint (my least fave colour) because I love brown. I also love how you’ve bound them into a book cover. You’ve given me so many ideas and inspiration. The possibilities are endless. Thank you for making this video and sharing it. 🙏
So happy to hear all of your take aways, Angie! and thanks for emojis galore. It is so fun to play with color mixing and use up colors we don't normally choose.
🤓 THIS makes me very happy, it feels satisfying using the card. Best part is that this process is no stress. I am SOOO inspired!!.. Literally making a ton right NOW🤩Thank you💜
Thanks, @JennieMaeJune - that's great to know! Living outside the USA I don't have access to all of the total wonderfulness available in pretty papers... this is one way I innovate.
I just came across your website....love listening and following you as you are so calmi8ng and its very meditative. I was looking for how I can make some collage papers for poppies....reds with lights and darks. I just cant seem to get it right. My poppies are large on a large multi media canvas with paint and papers.
So glad you found the videos, too Bronwyn! I hope this one will inspire you to experiment and play, usually my favorite collage papers are the result of "happy accidents".
I'm always a bit jealous when I see people creating so freely with acrylic paint. I'm always so conscious about the environment. I can't bring myself to clean brushes in the sink for example. Though I love the look of the pages. I have it with other art materials too. It feels a bit restricted nog being able to make a mess or use some materials. Also I was wondering what pens are suitable to journal on acrylic pages? I have uni ball pens, but they look so bright. I like the look of a normal ballpoint pen. Your writing in the Visual Journal Workshop looks like it's written with a normal pen. I am looking forward to your videos, they are very helpful. Thank you Lisa!
I feel like you do about cleaning brushes, @Alice - and I use very little water (scarce where I live in Mexico) - so I clean my brushes of on my palette, then on a damp cloth - that gets most all the paint off. I don't dump paint water down the sink. I let it evaporate outside or find a spot in the yard. As for your question about pens: it takes some experimentation. I think the Posca markers are great for painted lines, and a sparpie pen - water based for writing. Sometimes gel pens work... it depends.
I uae recycled paper too but I keep sensitive papers separate, and then I sit down & finger gesso paint just those spots that have account numbers or signature. It's fast & easy to cover a pile of sensitive papers that need this spot treatment. Gesso dries fast and these papers can then easily be added to the pile of recycle to be painted.
Great question, @rosiescreativewings - I paint both sides for a few reasons: 1. to have a variety of options 2. to make the paper a bit sturdier 3. I paint a LOT, so always like to use up my paint this way. 4. I was painting over old bank statements, so wanted all of the info painted over. :) Of course, painting just one side is just fine. Whatever works best for your needs.
heads up - tutorial starts at 9 minutes in, and its 2 minutes more after that just describing her paintbrush and how to mix water with paint 😅 excrutiating
Drop me your favorite emoji if you're inspired to paint your own collage papers! 🌈 or one of your favs -- I have a lot of fav emoji's! 🦋

Just spent an hour painting on old pages from a book. Thanks for the inspiration and creativity. Keep the videos coming.
Oh I'm SO glad to hear, Blythe! Are there any videos in particular you'd like me to make?
Thank you for recycling materials so beautifully.
Just wonderfully done! Thank you!!!!
Thank you so much. I knew I started keeping all this paper from my office for a reason!!!
I LOVE doing painted papers of all sorts, and I love painted paper videos!! SO inspiring- thank you so much!!🌈🤩
You are so welcome!

Great idea for using original artwork for junk journals rather than printing paper which can get very costly.
Glad you found some good ideas here! Thank you!
Fun! Love the recycle and make it your own message.
Yes! Thank you!
Beautiful papers. I like making my own painty papers. I reuse the multitude of papers that come with my meds. Most any paper is fair game in my art.
Good for you, Patricia! Any way we can reuse the papers that float into our lives, makes the art all that much more personal and interesting!
Love to paint papers for collage material or for backgrounds....very relaxing.

🎨🎨🎨how relaxing that was. I love just splodging around with paint. Shall have a go tomorrow - my Art day this week!
I enjoyed your video for simple and inexpensive ways to start creating your own collage papers.
Thanks so much! There is so much more to share - making collage papers is a gateway to so much creativity.
I loved this class Lisa!! I have started visual journaling again because of these inspiring videos. Thank you! Blessings!
I'm SOOOO happy to hear that, Sonia - BTW, I commented back when you posted, and for some reason... it didn't appear! Really glad to have you here!
Thanks! Love this video!
😊love the simplicity. Do you add your own pages simply by gluing them to an existing page?
That’s what I was wondering ? But nit thinking so 🤔
This was exciting to see. Eric Carle did a similar process of painting paper he used for collage. It was really inspiring and I loved the child like creativity in it.
Oh thank you for mentioning, I haven't seen that video but always enjoy following other artists doing similar (and different!) work.
👍 I enjoyed this.
I'm sure I'm going to try this. The mix of blue, green and Grey turned ok. I liked it. Thanks so much for share this video. Make some more, please 😊❤
thank you! I did make a part 2, and have more on my list to create.

Thank you! Lisa! Is this process preferable to gel printing? It does look great for collage!💕
I do this with copy paper and magazines. Great way to let the monkey mind go and just have fun 🐒
Die cuts with a view is always good about double sided pages!!!

Fantastic idea! This is great if you have gesso, or sometimes I just use whatever paint color I have an excess of and want to use up.
Brilliant idea, i have a box of bank statements.
😮😮❤❤❤
Thank you so much!
I’m curious how you attach the papers ? ( into your old book )
Grey? Mmm I like. Warm, cool or neutral grey to start with, for mixing into colour, that is?
I just use whatever tones of grey I have on hand...
Question, hope this gets to you and I find a reply.
How do you stick the papers into the book?
❤❤❤

Hi Lisa. I would love to know how to make the blobby bright papers
@Smale Family - I made a follow up video to this one, which I think answers your question: ruclips.net/video/8nmNssfMW40/видео.html
😁😁😁🤩🤩🤩
So I do have a question, if you are using these papers for collage, why paint both sides? You won't see the other side once its collaged.
What about archival quality? If it isn't acid free there may be an issue later with sold paintings.
when i add collage paper it gets sealed with varnish

Other than for your journals & scrap books
Do you also use these papers in your more high end pieces for collage ?
yes!

So do people troll you for not using archival materials?

Excruciating? How unnecessarily rude.
