I have a 2015 Yukon xl Denali. Drove from Tejon, Ca to Sacramento towing a 32' Travel Trailer with 5 people, on one Tank of gas. Which its about 400 plus miles. I LOVE MY DENALI!!
I've driven this. It's HUGE, by far the largest vehicle I have ever driven. Quite a lot of tech toys, I loved the seat vibration warnings, for example when you're going reverse and someone approaches from behind, it can save lives and trouble. Also liked many other things like the HUD, the multimedia / GPS system, the fully automated seats and tailgate. When you fold the 2nd and 3rd row seats there's more than 3 cubic meters of storage space (Yukon XL) it's insane. It has many storage compartments. The ride is very comfortable and it moves really fast when you go full throttle, with a satisfying V8 roar.
Love the look of this Denali, GMCs truck is the best looking out of the 3 IMO. Some people are complaining about the price but honestly if you look at other luxury full size trucks..its a little bit of a steal. Only a decade ago they were retailing for 50,000 dollars man times have changed.
Anthony Smith I'm saying the truck will drive the same in the snow, all the fundamental parts are there to offer the same level of snow capability. Having some quicker shifts and a tighter gear spread isn't going to make it go through the snow any better/worse.
The GMC is designed to be the semi luxury entry from GM in the full size SUV market. You have on the low end: Chevy Suburban middle is the GMC and the high end is the Escalade from Cadillac. In theory it's actually a great idea because through these three models you get a very large range of options, larger than any other corporation in the world. Just look at Ford, you're paying around the same price for a brand new Expedition as you would be for a brand new GMC Yukon XL and the Yukon XL is much more luxurious with its materials. There are videos that I've watched on the new Expedition and people are irritated because Ford put nice materials in some places and rather low quality materials in others. Critics have complimented GM by keeping the same consistency throughout their cabins. You have to ask yourself the question would you rather a fully loaded GMC Yukon XL or a base model Cadillac Escalade because they're around the same price. And if you're looking for an SUV in this class then it's going to be between those two and the Lincoln Navigator. General Motors has always been about putting lots of options on the table and they have continued on with their tradition, good for them if you ask me.
Yeah but the new Expeditions finally have a much more premium interior, more usable third row, better balance of HP, TQ, and weight and a better suspension setup. The Navigator is even nicer. I'm not knocking these things because they hold their own, but they're in desperate need of a major redesign.
Vehicles should not cost more than 60,000 no matter what!! Just imagine beside buying it you still have to maintain it and pay insurance. I'll always buy used vehicles
My first house was almost HALF that price...-yeah it’s insane and it just keeps climbing.buy one that’s 2-3 yrs old and let someone else take the first hit.I just did that for the first time and I’ll probably never buy new again
Loving the column shifter. Also, I don't know if you'll be able to do this, but you need to mash this up against the new Expedition Platinum. It don't get much more apples to apples than that.
My boss's 2017 Escalade has that 10-speed automatic in it and it's been back to the dealership 3 times for the transmission not engaging into gear when you take it out of Park. Dangerous!
@@6gredlite907 well now I know why. The transmission just went out in my 2011 Escalade. I've never had a transmission go out in any vehicle I've owned, let alone a "luxury" vehicle.
I still prefer the 2018 Cadillac Escalade ESV Platinum, especially the tail lights and some other equipment. Arabs in the region would probably love this GMC.
Wonder if there’s going to be an automotive crash that mimics the housing crash. Prices out pacing the consumer’s ability to keep up payments. Wood veneer epoxied over plastic passes for “top tier”. Luckily they depreciate like crazy, let someone else eat the initial cost & buy it used
Tim Fox been saying this for years... they didn’t fix the housing market, they bandaid it and dipped into federal funds. It wasn’t just big banks it was car manufacturers that were bailed out also in the recent decade. Just as they did before, hiding it by falsifying financials, bribing of the SEC, and clumping failing bond and stock values with top tier values and insuring failure. It will take longer this time, but it will call come to light as it did before. Save your money and make sure to have a safety fund. The last one was bad, this will be worse especially with the trending and pressing of a socialist society.
I test drove a 2018 Yukon and the magnetic ride is too stiff. My 2004 Sierra Denali had ride control and 4 wheel steering like what the new Cadillac's have. My 2004 Denali had better adjustable ride control for a soft ride or stiff ride, this is just a stiff ride and that's it and I had better steering, better handling and easier to park and better at towing with better payload. What have you done in 2018 other than add a back up camera and take away true mechanical advantages that were so important to me.And how do you know mpg was improved upon, they could of had 20.4 mpg last year and this year they got 20.5 because they did use premium this year and last year they used regular. Honestly guys we already said this on TFL truck. Or they could of had 19.5mpg last year and this year they got 21.4mpg. Where is the rounding? We don't know if it was a 0.1mpg increase or a 1.9mpg increase. Plus what fuel was used? I see you guys are in a lot of trouble in the states right now with your senators ripping off the public with Ethanol BS as well. Too many fuel types out there to be calling off mpg differences so ignorantly, there is a big difference with diesel in the winter vs summer and now biodiesel. It is a convoluted mess and there was no mention that this truck requires premium.
No mention of premium required because it isn't required, only STRONGLY recommended. The same can be said for the Ford Expedition with the 3.5EB: regular octane is okay but premium Is STRONGLY recommended.
Premium might change the mpg. Getting 20.4 with regular in 2017 is 20mpg highway so to say the new model beats the old model when it used premium and it could have got 20.5mpg and scored 21mpg a 0.1mpg advantage over last year is possible, not just 1 mpg. Strongly recommended is very scary, using regular is not a good idea. The 3.5EB doesn't have the same strict warning as the GM. The 6.2 can develop engine knock under heavy acceleration the EB can use regular with no scary affects other than HP loss.
Thomas Paul It says in the manual of every GM vehicle with the 6.2 that premium is recommended but regular 87 is ok. Check for yourself if you don't believe me, GM has all the owner manuals online. If the 6.2's the knock sensors detect pre-ignition it pulls timing and changes fuel maps to avoid engine damage. In other words, the exact same thing the ecoboost does when its running on 87 octane.
DO UNLOADED MPG LOOPS!!! I, like most, do tow a trailer in the size range you use for testing pretty frequently, but use these as daily drivers/grocery getters/ kid taxi’s far more. Unloaded mpg is FAR more important.
sonictech1000 The EPA numbers have recently become more accurate with new testing protocol, but in many cases they are far from the truth, and the manufacturers game the numbers with auto-start/stop and cylinder deactivations systems that offer little to no practical benefit in the real world. We don’t normally drive our vehicles in labs on treadmills after all. In addition, anything with a GVW over 8k doesn’t get an EPA number anyway, as they are exempt, so in that case there is no information, bad or otherwise.
GREG MURPHY An empty 100 mile loop isn't going to be a good indication of what you would get under the conditions you described. If anything it would likely be even more optimistic than the EPA numbers.
I just hate the thought of buying something for 80 grand when the Tahoe that it is based on in it's cheapest form can be had for half that. Sure this has more bells and whistles but the $40k version can do 90% of what this thing can.
GM shares 10 speed transmission with ford, which is relatively new technology and in its first years, while FCA uses very reliable/popular ZF transmissions, however their tuning is one of the worst for ZF, so i would say FCA 8 isnt that good
I learned after buying too many BRAND NEW vehicles-I just bought one of these 2018s with 23k miles for $48,500 -completely pristine saved over $35,000 over new...I’m good with that
You said the price is getting up into luxury territory. What's stopping it from being a Luxury vehicle? This is a question I find myself asking myself alot when I find out that something really nice ain't considered luxury but near luxury. Just what more does it need? I've seen reviews of automobiles that had even more gadgets than I would want and its not considered luxury. To me if it looks decent,is comfortable,if it has heated seats and heated steering wheel and plenty of room, its a luxury vehicle. Although with heated seats I hope it wouldn't relax the driver to much.
+mike wellington Seat comfort will vary depending on the individual, so of course the only way to really determine if the Denali's seats will suit your needs is to go and sit/test drive one.
Im pretty sure the Suburban has a 6.2L in the RST edition. Tahoe as well. Not to sure about the new 10 speed transmission though. Either way best looking full size SUV
The suburban is going to stick with the 6-speed and tried and true 5.3L V8, sorry.... The 5.3 has a lot of problems and on the other hand the 6.2 is the better choice. If I were in the market for a suv with durability, haul, kids, luxury etc and needed something that would last the GMC and Cadillac are the ones that I would look for, Chevrolet, Not!
kenny kennysson oh you don't need to tell me about the problematic 5.3. I've got a 2008 Avalanche and that thing burns oil like no tomorrow. Eventually I hope they scrap the 5.3 and only use the 6.2 and make a new engine for the Suburbans or out the 6.2 into the Suburbans and make a new engine for the Yukons and the Escalades
kenny kennysson ah well same difference. The 5.3 has been problematic since they got rid of the old 5.7 liter engines they put into the 90's Suburbans. Those weren't perfect but of course it was the good old days... sort of hahaha
You will notice a more luxurious interior and a smoother overall drive.I just traded my 2010 Yukonxl for the short Denali and while the older truck was still very comfortable this hew one is like riding on rails...the transmission is SMOOOOOOTH. I Know your post is old but...the subject matter is current since I just bought this 2018 pre owned-
The interior quality looks cheap for an $80k truck, The new Ford Expedition and Lincoln Navigator actually look way better surprisingly. GMs exterior looks ok but the interior is a bit of let down imo.
I'd rather have a new SR5 4Runner and another $45K in the bank. The large SUVs are hard to maneuver in parking lots. The leather smells after a couple of years and the gadgets break.
Sold a 4runner and miss it slightly but it was grim and depressing inside. Small too. The Land Cruiser is a gas hog and has a short wheelbase. Its big to be big with no usable bigness. Spent upper $50s and got a cavernous suburban and it is awesome.
Newsflash. That depends on the Trimline. The Yukon Denali , which in the Yukon Denali's case, the name "Denali" means "Luxury". Of course it's going to be "high in the price range".
Jason Marques wrong. It is a gen5 LT motor not LS. The 6.2 L86 in the Sierra/yukon is almost the exact same motor as the LT1 in the C7. Same exact heads and cam. Different intake and exhaust manifolds.
NWI ..Yes I stand corrected. I swore Chevy was advertising it as ls3 for silverado. Did some digging and you are definitely right. Sorry for misinformation
NWI The heads are a similar design but not the same, the cam is not, the dod system is different, the pistons are different, the rods and crank are different etc etc. The LT1 is a forged bottom end motor, these are not.
I like the look but for that price, the interior looks cheap. I can't understand why GMC cannot compete with other manufacturers, especially Kia and Hyundai. You can buy a more luxurious vehicle for a lot less
We have a 2016 Yukon Denali and I was against it but wife wanted it. I wanted the Land rover, Lexus SUV, or Jag fpace for sale price, something that looks like $80k and now I hate how much cheap material there is in the Yukon and her truck looks like Xmas inside with all the things breaking down. Not worth over $35k.
A stock Range Rover would crush this Yukon on or off road, looks sleeker, is faster, and far more luxurious. Why would I buy this. It does have more seats, so I'll give it that, but if I'm buying a "luxury" SUV then I'm going to buy a real one and not a Yukon with some bigger tires. *Nothing* beats the RR for the ultimate combination of outright opulence, sheer speed, style, and off road capability. Hence why the RR is the ultimate SUV. You can't even get things like a panoramic sunroof on the Escalade, forget about the Yukon. 80k is too much for this glorified Tahoe.
William Stewart I hope you’re right, but I have some doubts. The number in circulation doesn’t impact the repair cost. It may help with R&R ing. For some reason I just got a quote of $3000 Canadian to rebuild the 700R4 in my 03 Silverado when it needs it. How can it be that much for one of the most common transmissions available for the last 35 years? That there are millions of. I can get a new one from Summit for $4000 in change. I would guess a 10 speed would be in the $5000-7000 range to repair or replace.
Ryan Ryan That's nuts, I have a handful of 700's I could sell you. Buy used my friend, no sense buying a new or rebuilt trans when there's so many being circulated in the used market. Yes you can get a lemon, but buy a used one, open it up and have a look, and then put it in if it all looks good. If you're really picky, grab an overhaul kit, a new converter, and within a day you have a brand new transmission again for about $800.
And your point is what?? Why would you compare a XC90 to a Yukon? Totally different vehicles. XC90 is an excellent vehicle but if you need a truck for towing anything substantial the Volvo would be useless. Most people don't need the truck capabilities of a Yukon but for those who want a luxury family vehicle that can tow more than a utility trailer or small boat the Yukon is one a a very few vehicles that fits the bill.
Michael Richardson And a $80,000 Navigator will be worth 25 in 5 years, an $80,000 Mercedes ML will be worth 25,000 in 5 years, a $80,000 XC90 will be worth low 30's in 5 years......they're all in the same boat bud.
I'm with you...I own a 2015...had the same AC problem...and had to replace the Onstar/XM antenna, the exterior trim pieces on the doors near the windows, an interior A pillar molding (all just came loose or fell off and had to be replaced) and just today had to replace the battery in it. Not feeling the "Professional Grade" as advertised.
I bet it's 5k more for the upgraded 2018 and u only get 1mpg more. Insane! Who buys this crap? I make 100k a yr and still wouldn't buy it. Better off with a 1 ton truck getting 18mpg than this junk!

The engine sounds incredible. Very deep and growly.

Anthony Smith It will perform the exact same as last year, the transfer case, diffs, axles, and tires are all the same..........

Eventually I hope they scrap the 5.3 and only use the 6.2 and make a new engine for the Suburbans or out the 6.2 into the Suburbans and make a new engine for the Yukons and the Escalades
I meant the new ecotec 5.3 as well, sorry to hear that.
kenny kennysson ah well same difference. The 5.3 has been problematic since they got rid of the old 5.7 liter engines they put into the 90's Suburbans. Those weren't perfect but of course it was the good old days... sort of hahaha
Yeah, well you are the one who is stuck with the 5.3 and not me, hehehe....
I love it
Love if you could do one for the 2018 Expedition if you get an opportunity
Mmmmm that beautiful hood latch sound
Power running boards quit working as quick as the first payment is due
What if I jump from 2010 to 2018 will I notice
I think you may notice a slight difference.
You will notice a more luxurious interior and a smoother overall drive.I just traded my 2010 Yukonxl for the short Denali and while the older truck was still very comfortable this hew one is like riding on rails...the transmission is SMOOOOOOTH.
I Know your post is old but...the subject matter is current since I just bought this 2018 pre owned-
My first choice car GMC denali👍👌
beautiful en good Looking Truck
The interior quality looks cheap for an $80k truck, The new Ford Expedition and Lincoln Navigator actually look way better surprisingly. GMs exterior looks ok but the interior is a bit of let down imo.
It's the exact same as last year except for the grill and 10 speed. Just get the Cadillac instead for that price
A bit pricey , in the thumbnail for the vid it came up “2018 GMC YUK” , of course a bit missing :-)
Rather spend my 80K on a Land Cruiser! More reliable, better built, and resale value Ford or Chevy (GMC) can't touch!
I'd rather have a new SR5 4Runner and another $45K in the bank. The large SUVs are hard to maneuver in parking lots. The leather smells after a couple of years and the gadgets break.
Daryll Jackson I went from a land cruiser to this. It can actually haul worth a damn, pretty fast, V8, and almost as comfortable.
Sold a 4runner and miss it slightly but it was grim and depressing inside. Small too. The Land Cruiser is a gas hog and has a short wheelbase. Its big to be big with no usable bigness. Spent upper $50s and got a cavernous suburban and it is awesome.
Or a real truck like a Ford F350. More luxurious interior, more advanced build quality, technology and engine, and more of a truck.
1 mpg better what a bunch of bs
Now their making new names like Ultimate package ! So now any denali is not good enough! Now you need ultimate Denali!
Nice but definitely not for your average American. Meaning only the rich can afford one.
is the transmission is the same as f 150?
They developed the transmission together. GM says : the mounting hardware is different, and software calibration is very different from Ford.
Sad part of all this is 1 freaking mpg increase from the 2017 if i heard you right ..
Same 2015 no defrint 2018
When vehicles in the full size SUVs all cost about this price range🙃
Newsflash. That depends on the Trimline.
The Yukon Denali , which in the Yukon Denali's case, the name "Denali" means "Luxury". Of course it's going to be "high in the price range".
So this isn’t the same engine the corvette has?
Josh B no...it's an LS engine like older c6 . It's obviously running different cam and tuning
The truck 6.2’s are identical internally. Different (shorter) intake manifold and different exhaust manifold. Different calibrations as well.
Hmmm. 80k. Maybe on a 2 year lease then give it back. That is if you own your own business.
Simon Strother not the one I had in ‘16, I smoked a GT350. A dude totaled it and we got a ‘17 and it’s just not near as fast.
Green Flare what are you referring to
Simon Strother Denali. Sorry I forgot to make that clear.
i really hate chrome but that plastic grill is even worse
I'll take twelve ...
I'll take 13!!!
Deyshaw H I'll take 14...
The interior is worth $80,000.
10 speed transmission....bet some sucker can’t wait to get a repair bill for that one day.
Ryan Ryan Exactly no real added performance or gas mileage. It's more so a preference. In my opinion.
Ryan Ryan There will be so many in circulation, they won't cost anymore than the 8 speed just like the 8 speed didn't cost anymore than the 6 speed.
Lacross Williams agreed!
Nigga u crazy i will buy a house with that kind off money...
..LOL - Volvo XC90 only use 4 cyl/2.0 liter to transport 7 people....
Over-priced. All the large GM SUVs have a TREMENDOUS profit margin that I will not contribute to in regrads to the products being offered.
I don't see the point of this thing. Just buy the Escalade and spend a few more thousand. Who cares about a few thousand once you are dropping 80k.
true, and most ppl would just finance it, and $100 extra a month for a top end cadilac isnt much is it
I'd rather add 5k and buy a Toyota Land Cruiser that would easily outlast that pos.
GMC
just an advertisement video
wow over 80k for that shit box? whats it worth in 5 years? 30k i bet
Michael Richardson it is expensive because people but it.
+sayem 16.4 ya that is very true! hard to believe tho.
Michael Richardson don’t bitch just because you cant afford it
Michael Richardson And a $80,000 Navigator will be worth 25 in 5 years, an $80,000 Mercedes ML will be worth 25,000 in 5 years, a $80,000 XC90 will be worth low 30's in 5 years......they're all in the same boat bud.
But the cost to own and operate many of those will be significantly higher beginning at 5 years when warranty protections end.
80k for a SUV with a COLUMN SHIFTER!!!!!!
É isto aí ótimo campeão valeu obrigado. . .
I wonder if they redesign the ac condenser here jajajajajjajaa .... what a crap car . I own one .... 2016 .... :(
I'm with you...I own a 2015...had the same AC problem...and had to replace the Onstar/XM antenna, the exterior trim pieces on the doors near the windows, an interior A pillar molding (all just came loose or fell off and had to be replaced) and just today had to replace the battery in it. Not feeling the "Professional Grade" as advertised.
AND AND AND lol
buy American !!!!!!!
I would buy the lx570 Because the gmc has a lot of cost cutting gm bs. The Lexus has better quality
for $80 grand you should have bought an Escalade.
Looks cheap.. if I was spending the weekend in the mountains a 2019 expedition would be my choice
I bet it's 5k more for the upgraded 2018 and u only get 1mpg more. Insane! Who buys this crap? I make 100k a yr and still wouldn't buy it.
Better off with a 1 ton truck getting 18mpg than this junk!
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA GMC 👎👎👎👎👎👎👎
What a rip off, the 6.2L NA engine is a dinosaur. GM is behind like two decades compared to the competition.
I drove this as a rental . Absolutely garbage. My x6 has much strength and power then garbage
All gmc car are ugly
Yue Lu Asians have no taste.
