The much simpler and cheaper to repair engine design would be a big deal to me. The 2 mpg may be worth it to some people, but not to me. But I know this was mainly for a good laugh, and it was fun to watch.
No engine is simple to repair these days, you have a very complicated cylinder deactivation scheme to deal with in the GM's. Turbo's aren't really a big deal, it's very straightforward on how they work. However the engine isn't why I'll get the Ford - it won't rust and it has independent rear suspension. In ten years the Ford will pretty much look like that, even from underneath, the GMC and Infiniti - will have rust....
It's not the turbo that really concerns me. The long timing chains are my biggest concern. I've seen far more problems out of the chains, tensioners, and guides over the years than I ever have pushrods and lifters. I'll give you that the cylinder deactivation is trouble waiting to happen, but it can be diagnosed just like anything else. And it is less likely to take out other parts of the engine when it does fail. If you live up north, I understand the rust concern, but where I live, I've never had a major issue. And, for the record, I won't be buying either one.

GMC 4 ever he’s right. They look damn near the same and they are both based in the foreign market Nissan Patrol...a fantastic, robust vehicle equivalent to a Land Cruiser.
First I'd like to say you need a longer drag strip. And second they are all really nice now if they could just lower the price about $45,000. To 1998 levels that would be great, then all the regular people could afford one. These manufacturers are freaking crazy.
I agree, seems like the GMC could have done better against the Expedition. Nathan seems to know how to launch properly, Roman doesn't. In a light weight vehicle it might be negligible, but in a 3 ton SUV, brake stalling is crucial to build up as much torque as possible to move all that weight from a stand still. Nathan brake stalled, Roman didn't, thus why the Yukon was quicker when Nathan drove it. There is a reason racers brake stall their car at the drag strip: harder launch: quicker E.T.
jandj Godwin Look at Car and Drivers times for both. The 2017 XL Denali 6.2 with the 8 speed and 3.23 gears does a 0-60 in 5.8 seconds. The 2018 Expedition platinum regular length with the 3.73 gears does a 5.7 0-60. They didn't have any tests done on the new 2017 Denali with the 10 speed, or the shorter model like the Expedition. All things being equal, I'd feel like with the Yukon would at least match the 5.7 at the very worst with the new 10 speed and the lighter shorter length.
Guys they both brake stalled and let off the break at EXACTLY the same time. I thought this was true too but I went back and watched it in slo mo and the cars both started at the same time and the brake lights went off in the same split second. The expedition just has better pickup. And even if the gmc was Not brake stalled, the expedition still clearly wiped its butt.
Sam Jacobs I have a new f150 with same engine and tranny. It’s a damn rocket ship! Nice thing about the 10 speed is it skips gears for better fuel economy if you’re normal or easy on the pedal.
bob smith Ford builds reliable v8s. Now that they don't make there big trucks with v8s I wouldn't buy them I have a navigator and it's a tank other then the air suspension. And I love it. But a TT v6 after 100k miles. Yea I do think so.
That Infiniti actually kept up with the Yukon despite having less torque, 3 fewer gears, and a higher final axle ratio. If the old fart hadn’t had a seizure at the line, they probably would’ve been neck and neck crossing the finish line....
Should have done a Roman in the Expedition vs. Nathan in the Yukon and QX80 races to eliminate "driver error". It would appear that Nathan knows how to launch better. Regardless, still think the Expedition would win with its lower gear ratio (higher numerically), 3.73 vs 3.23 vs 2.93, but might have been closer races.
Ironsaber2 Net exactly. I'm not a Furd guy, but there's a few issues with your idea. If you want to use a Yukon as it was intended to be used, you can't just throw a pair of hairdryers or a Whipple on that LT engine. Sure it will make all the power in the world, but it will also boil the fluids in your driveline when towing and break your all your gearsets and clutches when you're on it. Best bet is the simple solution. A set of rocker arms with a 1.85 ratio, a lighter valvetrain with properly made pushrods, a pair of well ported heads and a 3.73 final drive. Then swap out the shitty stock fluids in the trans and diffs, and get a good TCU tune. That will easily put you ahead of the Furd Ecofreak both in terms of acceleration, towing and milage.
The results are hard to beat but I think I'd still rather have that old reliable pushrod engine in the Chevy. I have driven and worked on all of them though and while the engine is a basket case of possible problems the expedition feels way better to be in.
Yes, yes they are. All the way to the repair shop. That Ford get worse milage than the GMC and while the tow rating is higher, in the real world, it's a lesser tow vehicle, due to the suspension and brakes. Stick a 3.73 in that GMC and that Turd would be left for dead.
jandj Godwin jandj Godwin exactly us Americans stick with our big 3 Chevy, Dodge, Ford pure Americana I be embarrassed hauling a load with a Honda Ridgeline 😂
Whatever you need to tell yourself, the GM OHV engines have cooling issues which is why they are coming out with DOHC V8's in the next couple of years. Ford's 5.0L easily out matches GM's 5.3L and is close on the 6.2L's heels. Still Ford will be putting a 7.0L V8 in their most expensive trims in the F150's and the large utes.... GM can either stick with this "people don't really care if their $80k vehicle will rust" BS or Ford will take over the large SUV market as they are running away with the truck market.
Lighter. More powerful. Better electronics. Better gear ratio. Better acceleration. Better luxury. More modern. Ford all day. Everyday. Every other day of the week
Put somebody in the GMC that knows how to drive it please and do it at sea level. He was brake boosting the Expedition, while Roman was just Flooring it. Brake the GMC till about 1200 rpm and try again.
BLACKLACDTS The ecoboosts have been doing very well and proven very reliable and thats coming from a Chevy and Toyota guy the are quite impressive engines
BLACKLACDTS the first gen ecoboost (2011-2014) engine is pretty good tbh, it didn’t have many problems so I think the expedition will fair well in longevity
Ford continues to kick a$$ 😅 - DEFINITELY leading the way in many areas, & are constantly striving to build a BETTER vehicle 🚙 * Which is pretty cool cause it shows that they really care ‘bout the vehicles they’re making.... 👍🏼
This happens every other year. GM or Ford create an all new platform and make a better product than the other one. The Yukon on display here is 3-4 years old while the Ford is all new. GM did the same thing back in 2014 with their trucks. I owned a 2016 F150 and couldn't stand it once the 3.5L EcoBoost started to have a misfire that Ford said was "normal". I traded that truck in with 35k miles on it and will never own another EcoBoost.
TinManSilverHeart if only they didn't break down so often..... And if Ford didn't completely redesign their engines every 2 years because they're junk.
HR Ford's v8s are mostly good. It's a hit or miss with American cars. One can be bulletproof and the next model a straight POS. But a V6 TT from ford? No thanks lol
It seemed to me that the ford was building boost off the line which would of been more fair if the gmc loaded the stall up it looked like he didn't load up with the brake and gas to launch the gmc the ford would of still won but it would of been closer
What you guys should be listing is final gear ratios. For example the 10 speed has a 4.7-1st gear and the 7 speed infiniti has a 4.89-1st gear. Multiply this by the diff and you get final drive ratio going to the tire. GM is 4.7 x 3.23 =15.18 and the 7 speed is 4.89 x 2.94 = 14.13. If this was the 8 speed GM than the 1st gear is a 4.56 x 3.23=14.73. 2nd gear is near identical. The GM is a 2.97x3.23=9.59 and the 7 speed is 3.17 x 2.94=9.32. Tire size also matters how much power difference in ratio gets to the ground. diff size is not the whole story

I hope ford will make a 5.0 option for the expedition, while the ecoboost is nice and powerful, I still love a good ole v8 rumble
Ford really has gotten it together with the turbo ecoboost. Great suv
Fords the dominant one here
Cool video guys!!
could you please do a drag race between denali and armada
GMC 4 ever
لاتغير الموضوع
انشخل اليوكن 😂
ZF 8 الصراحة بيني وبينك الاكسبديشن الجديد طيارة😂😂😂💔
The armada is the same as the Infiniti
James Wuertele are sure?
GMC 4 ever he’s right. They look damn near the same and they are both based in the foreign market Nissan Patrol...a fantastic, robust vehicle equivalent to a Land Cruiser.
First I'd like to say you need a longer drag strip. And second they are all really nice now if they could just lower the price about $45,000. To 1998 levels that would be great, then all the regular people could afford one. These manufacturers are freaking crazy.
But in my qx80 I have never lost against a Yukon or a Tahoe. What the hell you doing Roman? Lol
What is the expedition's 0 to 60 time?
Nathan lunch the GMC VS the Infinity a way better than what Roman did Vs The Ford , That Denali is Faster than that
salh abdullah
No its not, especially in that elevation, at sea level it will be a more competitive race, still the Ford will win
Great work, Guy's! I'm very surprised about Ford, very nice SUV. Here in Russia we have only Explorer with this fantastic engine.
Forgot to driver swap for each race
Man! Racing these big SUVs don't have a point and yet it is so damn entertaining at the same time :)
Ill give it to the ford. That thing shifts very quickly
Sam Jacobs I have a new f150 with same engine and tranny. It’s a damn rocket ship! Nice thing about the 10 speed is it skips gears for better fuel economy if you’re normal or easy on the pedal.
Sam Jacobs yet it’s unreliable as hell
bob smith Oh yeah totally agreed. Theyve gotten a little better over the years but still junkers
bob smith Ford builds reliable v8s. Now that they don't make there big trucks with v8s I wouldn't buy them I have a navigator and it's a tank other then the air suspension. And I love it. But a TT v6 after 100k miles. Yea I do think so.
bob smith based on what stats?
That's the difference between turbo engines and NA engines
Ford FTW!
How does the non Platinum expedition perform?
This just in...there is a replacement for displacement... and it’s called ECOBOOST
Nah it's called 2JZ
Nah because at the end of the day I can take that 6.2 way farther in the after market than a 3.5l ecoboost
Ironsaber2
Net exactly.
Pyrosity Onimuto 10 grand later lol
the infinity may not be the fastest but looks the best!
Ecobeast 👑
The results are hard to beat but I think I'd still rather have that old reliable pushrod engine in the Chevy. I have driven and worked on all of them though and while the engine is a basket case of possible problems the expedition feels way better to be in.
Every one of those old reliables now need all new LIFTERS for their antiquated pushrods. Everyone shunned the car when horses were the thing.
Never trust a tall guy that don't drink coffee.
coffee is for little people...i too drink tea
I drink both.
How are you making lights flash like that?
Is the frames from the camera led lights make them do that per frame jump
Ford is really ahead of the competition
Beef Stew YUP! In marketing... ONLY!!! with there garbage vehicles.
DURAMAX_DELIGHT I agree
DURAMAX_DELIGHT they're #1 for a reason
Yes, yes they are. All the way to the repair shop.
That Ford get worse milage than the GMC and while the tow rating is higher, in the real world, it's a lesser tow vehicle, due to the suspension and brakes. Stick a 3.73 in that GMC and that Turd would be left for dead.
Beef Stew because their cheap and break easy so that makes people buy it after having it broken.
Well I learned one thing after watching this video... The Infiniti is the best one here... after all people don't buy these two drag race!!
video showed it loosing its ass, low tech and low h.p. = more money. go figure.
I rather stick with the GMC than Ford just because it has no twin turbo and I choose reliability vs drag race
Buuboi214 you do know in 2017 ford rank first in reliability among all suvs right and all gm suvs rank last so shows what you know
jandj Godwin jandj Godwin exactly us Americans stick with our big 3 Chevy, Dodge, Ford pure Americana I be embarrassed hauling a load with a Honda Ridgeline 😂
Bunz21 says you lmao take this L for being hurt
Whatever you need to tell yourself, the GM OHV engines have cooling issues which is why they are coming out with DOHC V8's in the next couple of years. Ford's 5.0L easily out matches GM's 5.3L and is close on the 6.2L's heels. Still Ford will be putting a 7.0L V8 in their most expensive trims in the F150's and the large utes.... GM can either stick with this "people don't really care if their $80k vehicle will rust" BS or Ford will take over the large SUV market as they are running away with the truck market.
Bunz21 What world do you live in? I would never trust any Ford.
Lighter. More powerful. Better electronics. Better gear ratio. Better acceleration. Better luxury. More modern. Ford all day. Everyday. Every other day of the week
Put somebody in the GMC that knows how to drive it please and do it at sea level. He was brake boosting the Expedition, while Roman was just Flooring it. Brake the GMC till about 1200 rpm and try again.
BLACKLACDTS , quit making excuses for junk !!
Stephen Kintzel come back in 10 years and let me know how that ecoburst is doing compared to that Infiniti and GMC v8
BLACKLACDTS The ecoboosts have been doing very well and proven very reliable and thats coming from a Chevy and Toyota guy the are quite impressive engines
BLACKLACDTS
Try harder fan girl
BLACKLACDTS the first gen ecoboost (2011-2014) engine is pretty good tbh, it didn’t have many problems so I think the expedition will fair well in longevity
The best dynamic your channel has is the ability to have fun! That’s why your channel grows everyday. Awesome video. #sexybeast.
Nice. Not surprised that expedition is fast. Good video
i havent watched yet but i think the eco boost v6 will win ... im a gm guy but i know fast when i see it
Go ford!
The real test is reliability and maintenance cost. Chevy will win that and that matters more to ppl who actually buy one of these.
Engine sound: 1st Infiniti, 2nd Ford, 3rd GMC. The GMC v8 sounded like an inline4. Blaah
Another loss for the Garbage Motors Company, and to a V-6 of all embarrassment...
Ford continues to kick a$$ 😅
- DEFINITELY leading the way in many areas, & are constantly striving to build a BETTER vehicle 🚙
* Which is pretty cool cause it shows that they really care ‘bout the vehicles they’re making....
Ford and "good cars" can' be written in the same sentence. Not trolling, telling by experience (sorrily). I would take the Infiniti any day.
Don't know if it would have made a difference anyway but there seemed to be one hell of a delay on the GM take off of the line.
the platinum ecoboost not only fast but more efficient , guess things worked in a better way for EB
It seemed to me that the ford was building boost off the line which would of been more fair if the gmc loaded the stall up it looked like he didn't load up with the brake and gas to launch the gmc the ford would of still won but it would of been closer
Did Roman actually think he had a chance?By the way,the 6.2L sounded the best!
Dan Hambrick naww. The QX sounded the most badass
This should have been tested at close to sea level.... Then all trucks would be getting full power.
Remember the Mitsubishi 3000GT? What made that small engine so fast? A TWIN TURBO
