This song was written by Phillip Coleman about the closure of the OLDEST North American Goodyear Tire Plant in Union City Tn. Im from near there and my husband put in 26 years, 6 days a week for the most part. The closure was a surprise in some ways and a given in others. Little Union City has about 13,000 population, just a small Tn town and in 1969, Goodyear put the town on the map. My dad was a plumber and pipe fitter and helped build the plant. It’s 2023 and Union City is STILL here. Lots of the guys went to trade schools to become welders, Nurse’s, some got out of town or out of state jobs, but basically the township stuck it out together. Another tire manufacturer of humongous machinery tires took over the building, Titan Tire. We all got knocked down a bit, but Union City and the surrounding county GOT RIGHT BACK UP‼️Thank you guys for the song.

Im listing to this filling out job applications trying to fill some mighty big boots. My grandfather was the type of man to work 3 or 4 jobs to keep a roof over our families head ,food in our stomachs and to keep the lights on. He was the definition of a hard working American man. If i can be half the man he was i think ill do just fine.
Songs Like this make me forget how much my back hurts when I hop off that fork lift..thanking god everyday when I roll outta bed at 2am that I'm lucky enough to be working ..amen
You know this song resonates so powerful across generations my grandfather worked 16 to 18 hours a day from the time he was seven till he was over 70. It was just instilled in him when he retired he basically went crazy because he had to have something to do this song is for all the hard-working people who are battling And living pay to paycheck and this high interest high, inflation world we are in I pray for you all, and God bless those that have passed on before us
Been at job my 17yrs now work threw rain, cold weather, hot summer days ..This song keeps me strong for my family to provide for them..Thanks Ronnie Dunn for this song I play everyday on my way to work
Here in Carolina furniture and textile mills began closing in the early 90s; the other shoe dropped with NAFTA in 1994. Entire towns were reduced to vacant buildings, empty windows and decay.. Main Street and formerly vibrant shops lay dormant, cracked windows and For Lease signs within the blast crater of Walmart. We have the 2nd highest loss of farmland in the country after Texas; many new generations are packing it in and heading to the cities. Never for a moment forget to stop and pray on all the blessings that you have.
This song hit me hard when it came out. I’m from New England, but grew up working in a metal shop, we almost folded back then. We managed to survive, thanks to the boss taking zero pay for a few months. It was scary, humbling, and strengthening. This is the first time I’ve watched the video. February 10 is my birthday. Weird. Edit: when the song came out it was gas is $5 and change at the pump . They changed the lyrics when the gas prices halved, so it didn’t sound unrealistic.
It just doesn't get much better than Ronnie Dunn. I could listen to him everyday and it never get old. He sells you on the story within the song in everything he sings. He and only a handful of others stand alone in country music.
One of the most underrated and taken for granted songs I have ever heard. Pay attention to the words and then realize where we are and where we are headed.
I just wish the song was longer...man, Dunn's got a voice. Just what country has been missing. Plus he tells stories in his song that the average man can relate to. Just a great artist!
Well get through it nothing in this world will ever keep us down along as we keep getting back uo and sometimes u gotta be there for someone n then they'll be there for u

Honestly if I won the lotto, every time I saw someone that I thought genuinely needed help. I would pay for whatever they were buying and give them a little extra. Sometimes I would leave money at a store or restaurant and pay it forward. I hope people with money don’t get to caught up in them selves and actually do the right thing. Don’t ever let anything change you, stay humble and remember where you came from.

I hope you are one of the few who gets to retire and enjoy it. A lot of us started working full-time in our teens and tore ourselves up. Working for the company and never being appreciated is the worse. My husband worked since he was 16 full-time and then also on his parents farm. I worked full-time since I was 13, which BTW was when I also had to leave the abuse and take care of myself. Many 12-16 hr shifts and sometimes if help was short I'd work 20 hrs. We both worked 6-7 days a week. I wound up broken down at the age of 45 and my husband died on the job at the age of 50. We have nothing to show for it but many happy memories of the time we spent together. Best wishes to you and your family

I lost my dad on Thursday. 11-21-19..I travelled and worked with my dad for a construction company for years. Early on one of our bosses loved country and I heard this song come on riding with him and my dad once...it was the first country song I ever liked and I liked it because it reminded me of my dad. The hardest working, most intelligent and handy man I’ve ever known. My best friend and hero I will miss him forever. Cherish your dads people. Let them know. My dad was 53 and died a horrible death of cancer. The last year I’ve been by his bedside 24/7. In the beginning as a son and best friend wanting to be with my hero. In the end as those things but also his caregiver. Luckily I don’t have kids and was able to do this, and as hard as it was I’d do it a hundred thousand more times to have him again. Idk why I’m writing all this...I just don’t know what to do with myself

This song reminds me of my neighbor rich . This man is a US army veteran and he gets the pain of not having enough money and it kills me to see him this way . He is such an amazing man this song always reminds me of him . A few months ago he wanted to go fishing but didn’t have enough money for his favorite lure so I went to thinking and I got him a whole new rod and reel with his favorite lures and you should have seen the smile on his face . Love you rich

Mark Flitton Took care of my mom and dad for 45 yrs. Both were disabled. Now I am alone. Use to be a journeyman pipefitter and made good money. Now I'm broke down from lifting bodies and done out of love, I never got paid. Now I'm 66 and disabled... Alone, I live on 750.00 a month. Lost my home had to sell my truck and lost everything I owned to reposession. Was sleeping in my car with nothing but the clothes on my back and no money in my pocket. I survived! Now I'm one of the poor, living on very little a month. Sometimes I run out of food at the end of the month but I've learned how to fast for Gods homeless and poor for that week. God is good to me. I have a roof over my head and a bed to call my own and a GM car that runs well. . Can't work but I can pray!!! He's met all my needs.
@@donnakeeley7924 I understand where you are coming from. I worked in hospitals and nursing homes which tore me up over the years. I've had several surgeries trying to fix myself and after so long not working nobody wants to hire me at age 58. My husband died on the job at the age of 50. It took a toll on me ,mentally, psychological and financial. Back in the day everyone wanted me to work for them but not anymore.
Man. For what it's worth, I am truly sorry to hear that. When I hear these things, I think of my parents and everything they've worked for. If this happened to them, my heart would break into a million pieces, but you better believe I would do anything and everything to get them back on their feet and living life again. I am so sorry. I can only hope that you have loved ones that will do anything for you. Because after that, life itself becomes so much better and enjoyable. Even if it's kids or siblings. Don't matter who. I am 59 I have been a carpenter all my life
For the last year I have worked somewhere that the only reality is on a screen
Wow what have we come to
I meet young people
Willing to work hard
But they don’t know how
Because our culture is so perverted from what true American reality has always been it’s not just about education, but experience
That is what has made America great
People who learn from experience
Who love and respect each other
Who know that it’s okay to have expectations towards each other
And money isn’t everything
And it’s way too important

My grandfather was the type of man to work 3 or 4 jobs to keep a roof over our families head ,food in our stomachs and to keep the lights on. He was the definition of a hard working American man. If i can be half the man he was i think ill do just fine.
Songs Like this make me forget how much my back hurts when I hop off that fork lift..thanking god everyday when I roll outta bed at 2am that I'm lucky enough to be working ..amen
Sean Napier godspeed brother.
Amen Brother!
God bless you have a blessed life!
Good luck
May god be with you
You know this song resonates so powerful across generations my grandfather worked 16 to 18 hours a day from the time he was seven till he was over 70. It was just instilled in him when he retired he basically went crazy because he had to have something to do this song is for all the hard-working people who are battling And living pay to paycheck and this high interest high, inflation world we are in I pray for you all, and God bless those that have passed on before us
Been at job my 17yrs now work threw rain, cold weather, hot summer days ..This song keeps me strong for my family to provide for them..Thanks Ronnie Dunn for this song I play everyday on my way to work
Hello how are you doing today?
This song always has and always will be so relatable to so many people.
Thanks for your sincere compliment and love towards my music, Covid19 has shaped us all, we have you to be most thankful for🎸🙏💟
Thank God for the hard working middle-class American. 🇺🇸
Hey how are you doing today?
We don't have a chance buddy. Everybody doing good but us
Really hits home.. having a job you loved for so many years taken away 😢
AMEN
This song hits harder then ever right now
This one really hit home, it gave me a moment of being grateful for what I have.
@Ronnie Dunn I am doing the best I can, I try to live everyday being the best person I can be with what I have to give.
Here we are in 2022. This song is more relevant than ever.
N so is yo mums
This song hit me hard when it came out. I’m from New England, but grew up working in a metal shop, we almost folded back then. We managed to survive, thanks to the boss taking zero pay for a few months. It was scary, humbling, and strengthening. This is the first time I’ve watched the video. February 10 is my birthday. Weird.
Edit: when the song came out it was gas is $5 and change at the pump . They changed the lyrics when the gas prices halved, so it didn’t sound unrealistic.
I was a teen when this came out, it hit hard then and still does.... Especially in the times we live in.
Opening lyrics give chills every time.

It just doesn't get much better than Ronnie Dunn. I could listen to him everyday and it never get old. He sells you on the story within the song in everything he sings. He and only a handful of others stand alone in country music.
Thanks for your sincere compliment and love towards my music, Covid19 has shaped us all, we have you to be most thankful for💯💟🙏
I Love Written in Red.
As a high schooler from Union city who’s parents were greatly affected by the closing I really appreciate u making this song
One of the most underrated and taken for granted songs I have ever heard. Pay attention to the words and then realize where we are and where we are headed.
This song hits so close to home right now during this difficult time. Covid-19 has took its toll on us all!
im from the uk and I love driving and listening to this
The government sure can put a hurt on us huh?
Not if you live in a rational thinking state that didnt close everything down
COVID 19 BULLSHIT!!!!!!!
governments reaction is what is still taking its toll. The people would have been fine otherwise. But I still feel ya
I just wish the song was longer...man, Dunn's got a voice. Just what country has been missing. Plus he tells stories in his song that the average man can relate to. Just a great artist!
I cried like a newborn when first I heard this song and that was 10 years ago. Today...I wept even harder given the circumstances of this nation.😢
It's really terrible to see what is happening to America now
Well get through it nothing in this world will ever keep us down along as we keep getting back uo and sometimes u gotta be there for someone n then they'll be there for u
This one hit hard in 2012 and I can imagine it’s hitting many hard now. I can say I’ve been blessed since 2013 with things turning around for me.
Prayers to all who are going threw tough times an rough sacrifices. I know God has a plan for everyone an I pray for those who need the prayer more than ever.. God bless
Al Perez broken hallo

Honestly if I won the lotto, every time I saw someone that I thought genuinely needed help. I would pay for whatever they were buying and give them a little extra. Sometimes I would leave money at a store or restaurant and pay it forward. I hope people with money don’t get to caught up in them selves and actually do the right thing. Don’t ever let anything change you, stay humble and remember where you came from.
I could not agree more.

Brad. The only reason I have ever desired to be rich is to do exactly what you have said. The funniest thing is that when you look at those who have nothing they, many times, give more comparatively to their income.

hang in there to all those great families working hard and doing their best - this is not an easy time - lift each other up.
This song speaks the truth man, I work my ass off for what I have and I will work till my body snaps in half or till I die, god bless the service members of our county and god bless the blue collar folks out there. "Americas backbone"
god bless
god bless, big things come to those who get out there and get it..
I like what you posted truer words haven't been said
I hope you are one of the few who gets to retire and enjoy it.
You're a great American Christien. God Bless you and your family.

Thank you Ronnie for this song and video. It sings so true today. God bless you and everyone who sees this comment, hope y'all are doing ok
That little girl In the video getting whatever she got off the shelf and her mom saying no we can't afford it hits home for me I've been there. That hurts more to me then any of it.

I live in the next town over from that tire plant. Hell I worked there about 5 years after this song came out. There was only 20 people working and they shut down again.
This song touches home everyone needs to listen to this song and it is so true. the cost of living is going up. It is not getting easier either.

12 years ago and still absolutely true and right on the money
This song reminds me of my neighbor rich . This man is a US army veteran and he gets the pain of not having enough money and it kills me to see him this way . He is such an amazing man this song always reminds me of him . A few months ago he wanted to go fishing but didn’t have enough money for his favorite lure so I went to thinking and I got him a whole new rod and reel with his favorite lures and you should have seen the smile on his face . Love you rich
Bless you brother that's what it's all about
Brooks & Dunn owned the 90's.
They carried country music on their backs for an entire decade.
@ashley1994
Kix & Ronnie dominated the country music genre thru the 90's. To even argue the point is blasphemy and shows how little you know about country music.
Stay safe.. peace. ☮☮

What a MOVING Video. It's SO REAL!! WOW!! and like others, I tear up every time. LUV this song.
@OfficialRonnieDunn well I can't lie, somehow it's not been but a few months. I enjoy this song so much, I tried it in karaoke, and failed. I just wasn't familiar enough to cover it. So, I've bought a sound system, setting it up in my garage soon and will be practicing until I can do Cost of Living with the respect it deserves.
I appreciate what you do. Singers give us so much, and you exceeded that with this song. I'm retired Navy, I appreciate all you do. Thank you Ronnie
@OfficialRonnieDunn I am, i joined one just today. By the way, the first.R in my screen name is for Ron, or as my family calls me...Ronnie.

What a Great Song. Almost brings me to tears. Good song Ronnie Dunn.
That's an awesome song and they nailed it. We'll miss you both so RIP and God bless your families. Toby Keith was a true Patriotic man and I love all that he did for our military men and women and their families.
Covid is the new market crash and this song is as relevant today as it ever has been.
Yeah covid 19 is a joke
Yep for sure
Shit I bought a house in June ... Estes are super fuckinnnn low
It’s crazy how this world crashed over power. They don’t care about us.
You have 2 realize is hyping up that bs I'm fine I been around people had it I lift stuff heavier than me everyday put that in between
Been there, plant closed, lost my house. Starting over at 50 is hard.
Mark Flitton I'im 36 and starting over rn. Praying u get ur opportunity
Mark Flitton keep your head my friend. The plant manager that was at the tire plant came to my factory in lexington and we lost around 800 jobs. Praying for you.
Call em up. It ain't worth a fight unless your fanily is by your side.
This song presents a huge loss for people in a great song. Great job, #1 Ronnie Dunn.

Ive loved Jamey since i first saw him & Randy Houser 20+ years ago. They played Lead Me Home at my brother's memorial in 2015, now when i hear that song it anyways makes me cry 😥 He was only 56, I miss him so much!
Yes this song hits home today with times like they are!! Pray for us all!!!
Sure does man sure does, you never forget good music
Watching that little girl put that grocery item up, really hits home to me. I've been there.
3rd Coast MOB - couldn’t agree more. No kid should have to go through that but unfortunately it happens more than most of us realize. You’d be surprised the difference just a few people volunteering at a local charity makes. I’ve been doing it randomly throughout the past few years when possible and it honestly makes me feel like we’ve made some kind of difference.
Got to start somewhere....
Cheers!
Every time I see the large BuzzLight year doll I remember how much my son wanted that doll and how I dad to say “put it back”. I can afford it now but my son has passed away....
Yep. me too. Gotta tell the kids no...
Dang just when you think you have it rough listen to this song. Remember life was never promised to be easy, but chin up and keep fightin. Those who don't give up are more likely to find what they're lookin for. God be with y'all, that may not help much but God is worth way more than money will ever be
