2008 odyssey fuel door latch fix

Here is a way to fix your fuel door that won't close. Often times the plunger, latch that opens and holds the door closed falls back into the hole. There are 2 small, plastic fin tabs that hold it in place and they break. I discovered how to access and fix that problem.
To access the unit, pop off the drivers side, rear speaker cover. Remove the speaker and you will be able to reach into the metal box. The cable and plunger will be in there. You do not have to take off the large plastic wall panels to do this!
1) Make your own plastic insert washer. FYI, you can make the insert washer out of a credit card as well!
2) Or, use a retaining ring! I don't know what size but you can buy a box of assorted sizes on Amazon
I was unable to find anything on the internet on how to fix this and wanted to share my success to help others save hundreds of dollars and hours of work trying to figure it out. Best of luck!
