As said in another comment, I did not have to take the wheel off or to remove the wheel well. I taped a small rigid electrical cable to the release cable on the new part and fished it through the hole in the trunk and I put the grommet in place. My old actuator was still working but I had several issues in cold freezing weather where the gas door would not open so I decided to change it. The part was 67$ CAD at my local Honda dealer and the job took me about 10 min to complete.

I'm having the same issue. It didn't want to open today at the pump. I. Assuming because the actuator went bad? Though I don't hear any noise. I'm curios if I should attempt to replace it or check the fuse first and check of the actuator is getting power? Or my 2018 Actuator probably needs to be replaced?
Ended up breaking that plastic peice on the door trying to open the gas door to fill gas. As I was on empty.
Probably froze, but curios if a new actuator will help to avoid that issue in the future?

@@mayeri3083 My actuator was still making noise before I replaced it. We get extremely cold temperatures where I live and since I changed the actuator, the gas door has been working flawlessly. I would order the new part and try replacing it by myself if I was you. My car is a Civic Coupe 2016 with only 64 000km.

There's an easier way to do this, and it can be done without taking the wheel off or removing the wheel well. Once you've freed the actuator from the clips, remove the cable from the mount on the side, then tie dental floss to that end and tie the other end of the floss to the looped end of the new cable. Drag the old cable out through the trunk and bring the new one in through the same opening. Just have needle nose pliers on hand to fit the grommet in place within the trunk. Doing it this way only took me about 15 minutes start to finish.

52fendertelecasster is right. However you can make it even simpler. After you have pulled the actuator out, remove the pull cable from the old actuator and move it to the new one. Manual unlock is now done. Don't go into the trunk at all. Then swap the electric fitting and you are done. The only new piece will be the actuator unit itself. About 5 minutes if you have done it before..

To eliminate the sound I removed the electrical connector that was attached to the actuator. I was able to access the connector without removing the tyres.
Only replace the actuator if you want the fuel tank cap to have auto lock during the car locked condition.
