From all the records I have seen Vega started in Boston in 1881 and aquired Fairbanks in 1904 ..At best that is 143 years //All the best , Guy
Good info! Thank you!
I've fallen in love with that Vega. Absolutely looks and sounds beautiful! Salute to Deering! Gonna have to start saving my nickels! Thanks for sharing this.
Thank you, Jim. You're very kind, sir!
Lovely sound thank you 🙏
I have two Goodtime banjos & a Huber, absolutely adding this banjo to my collection. Love the tone.
Great video Al. Thanks for sharing. That's a wonderful piece of a banjo. I'm falling in love with it! Hopefully I will get one of those someday.
Thanks so much! I really love mine and play it almost everyday! Take care!
Excellent review. I WANT ONE!!
THank u Dean! I love mine and play it all the time!
Lovely Touch. Respect. STP
i am new to banjo and have the Deering Goodtime Americana 12" pot and loving it. i can see myself upgrading to this model in the future! the sound is great and truly aesthetically pleasing. i tend to like the darker color over all the blonde.
I also had that exact same model and loved it also. I just fell in love with the vintage star and had to have that one. The Dopson tone ring makes all the difference in the world. The one you have is absolutely awesome by the way so hang onto it as long as you can. Take care!
@@alfike I plan on keeping the Americana but i just purchased the Vintage Star as i could not find one anywhere and the build wait is a year or so and i stumbled on one from a Chicago Guitar store just by chance and did not hesitate to purchase it! cannot wait to try it out. it is truly a good investment either way.
Surprising good explaination of all the different banjo parts and how they effect the total sound of the instrument.
Thank u much!
Gorgeous
Thank you!
Hey Al, I’ve been playing about a year and my children wanted to get a nice banjo for me, so I chose the Vega Vintage Star as well. I love the sound. Did yours come with the compensated bridge? Mine did not, and my 2 and 3 strings are just not quite right. Thanks for sharing.
Alan, That’s awesome! I love mine. I added that bridge. It comes with the Smile bridge. Both are just fine. Enjoy!
I don’t really know what to tell you on that. Maybe ask Deering. You can get those compensated bridges on Amazon. Try one and see if it helps. I believe it’s 5/8 inch.
Al .. would you say this is a 'heavy' banjo? (I currently have a Vega #2 and am finding it bit heavy for my liking)
Actually not at all. About 7 lbs. I think your tone ring is heavier. Their site would tell you.
Mines on its way. Great review
That's so awesome! You'll love it!
Curious. How do You like it?
Al can you tell me how you have tuned the banjo. Thank You
@@L77MRT it’s in C tuning.
G,C,G,C,D. It’s cool to play this way. Thank you!
Is the width at the nut wide enough for someone with big hands?
Hey Brad, yes, I would think so. You'd just have to try it out, or find a banjo in a music store with similar measurements. I think you'd be fine.
Yes it is
Hi AL, I love the sound of this vintage star, I want to know if you still like it after a couple of years of owning it? Would you recommend or purchase again?
Yes, absolutely! I play it all the time and never get tired of the sound or feel! Thanks for checking!
@alfike Thanks for the reply Al, I've been looking at a few of the Vegas, but this reply from you solidified my choice. The Vintage Star it is!
For $2600 though I'd rather just buy a vintage Vega and restore it.
That would be cool also. I paid less than that because of a minor defect in production.
