- The legendary St. Ursanne-Les Rangiers HillClimb held in Switzerland and counting for the European Hillclimb Championship featured some proper Monsters this season again, with a mixure of local NA screamers, the European top boys, 800+Hp Lancer Evos, Porsche GT3-R units and a very special visit form a "King of the Hill" all the way from South Africa... this is how they ended up:

Without a doubt (not to take anything away from some amazing NA vehicles), Igor's Hyundai i30N TCR. With much lower power numbers and higher weight than some turbocharged monsters, it came in 5th. Incredible!

I was thinking the same thing! And the onboard? If people say FWD is no fun, this can prove them wrong ;) All this will less then 300hp/ton, great setup.
That thing looked absolutely planted, combined with obvious driver skill result is this.

There´s a reason we felt it was obligatory to include a boot of Onboard there to give some proper perspective...
The evos seem to regularly dominate these hillclimb events, and for good reason. Cheap, lightweight, AWD, and a ton of mods available for it.
Some beautiful machines in there. The high reving NA 4cyls, the intake noise of M33, the driveby sound of the 997.. Was hoping for something more exciting at the top of the leaderboard though - I mean, last year the SLK340 took fricking 5 seconds off this year's 1st place Evo.
Reto will be coming back for next season don´t worry ;)
The MR2’s made it to St. Ursanne!!! Hopefully it does Falperra in the future

Much respect for the guys that recognize the old 70s/80s Econobox cars and put the time in to transform them into mad corner carvers. I'd buy the RS 2000 driver a beer for sure. Wow, that guy was right on the razor's edge! The CRX was a nostalgic nod too. Shoehorning a modern NA engine into them, chef's kiss! That said, the white Ginetta has really grown on me everytime it makes an appearance. Great lines and a real performer.
And let's not discount the event location, either! Even people not familiar with Hillclimbs will recognize the famous (infamous?) features in the background of this one. 👍

the most impressive car to me in this field was the i30. Insanely quick considering the substantially lower power to weight, no crazy aero or wide fenders. You can see from the onboard that every undulation is perfectly absorbed by the suspension, and the car is stable at the very limit. Shows what a great setup and even better driving can do. great video as always.
Classic coupe look of the Ginetta. The EVOs are impressive, as they always sound angry. I watch your channel to see cars we don't get to see very often in the U.S.. Great video! Man, that course is fast!

God that Escort sounded amazing! I had a Cosworth back in the day and still probably one of the best cars I’ve ever driven. Always wondered why Ford never revamped the sportier Escorts as a special anniversary thing.

The faster in and out cornering still is old car are the best, the engine never low down. The smoothes still is honda crx with the F20 honda 2000 engine. ❤

That particular GT3R is pure hillclimb car.
That v6 blue escort would make a mad drift car. I had a green one with a datsun 1600 bored out to 1800. I bought it with the 1600 already in it and it was in good conditon but thw car needed aot of work.

All but 5 were driven like they were stolen. The first few must have problems with accelerator pedals sticking, along with the last 2. Good stuff!

It's so absurd to see evo's duking it out with GT3s. Not only is the 4G63 an amazing engine, but that damn chassis. Unbelievable.
That ME2 Super GT had too much power for that track. 1,000 horsepower was overkill

It may have been his first time on the hill-- there is a lot to learn & he is from far, far away, no?

The usual outlier times provided by Hyundai and GT3 Porsches make no sense.
How on earth can the i30 be faster than that monstrous MR2?
Driving skill and track knowledge go a long way ;) But on the case of the MR2 here has more to do with the fact that this was the very first time Pieter Zeelie was doing St. Ursanne and that he had mechanical issues. If his last run did not have to be aborted, he was on the way to be the 4th Fastest in front of Gaetani´s GT3-R.
