  • Hello there and thanks so much to everyone that left a comment on my last video. I didn’t realise how useful that last video would be for many of you so I’ve just made this video to show you one slight issue I’ve discovered with the Epson ET8550 which may or may not affect you!! I’ve not long got back from holiday but recorded this video before I went, I just didn’t have time to edit it so although I have now had the printer longer then three weeks, I filmed this video three weeks after I’d set it all up!!
Anyway, I hope it helps. I will say I am still very happy with the printer and the print quality so far has been fantastic :-)
    Best wishes,
    Justine

Under the maintenance tab choose thick paper. It helps a lot with the rollers. Also choose a slower printing speed. This will allow the ink to dry faster.

Well now, I have to say that, that procedure to print on 280gsm and over is absolutely ridiculous. Like you, had I known that I would have to go thru that I would NOT have purchased it, and I do print a fair bit of greeting cards. It's too late to take it back so all I can do is take this as a learning experience (to dive deeper into functions of printer) for the next printer I purchase. Thanks so much for sharing!

    • @jagosart
      @jagosart  Год назад +2

It’s a bit disappointing to say the least. I’d be interested if you find the same problem. I tried printing 260gsm card through the normal rear feeder today, the one on top of the printer, and the card came out with the same roller indentations on it which isn’t great. I’m actually wondering if it’s just a fault with my printer or if all et8550s do the same. The other rear feeder slot, where you have to remove the mechanism as shown in the video, would be ok, although a lot of unnecessary faff, but the fact that it leaves a 20mm margin at the bottom is a proper nightmare as any card designs have to take that into account!! I was so chuffed with this printer when I initially set it up but am honestly regretting it a little now. If I’d known that printing a simple greeting card would be such a chore, I really would have looked at the other options. It’s such an expensive printer and I just assumed it would do everything i needed it to do. Fingers crossed some brilliant person out there has a solution for the problem 🤞

Hi Justine, thanks for taking the time to post this vid. I have the same printer and get exactly the same roller lines on thick papers for photography prints. I'd also taken the rear cover off but it wasn't until you pointed out the removal and re-insertion of the little guide that the penny dropped for me! Yes, got the same issue as you in turning the printer sideways and not fitting on my work stand - doh! Anyways, I'm still enjoying the outstanding prints I get off it and the ink tanks rather than cartridges is too much of a plus for me to consider other options. I also have the P900 for larger work, but you know what ... the glossy prints from the 8550 beat even the P900 for impact (P900 is pigment inks). Once again thanks for posting, you're a very watchable RUclipsr!

I had the Epson P600 before and I prefer the prints on the et8550 too. How do you find working with the margin that it leaves when printing using the back of the machine. If it wasn’t for that I could absolutely forgive it for the faff to print from the back because you do get quicker at removing the back etc. I’m glad the video helped you out :-)

    • @indigowolf288

@@jagosart Hi again, as for the margin, if it's a portrait print then I'll make sure to have it at the bottom where I generally prefer a bigger margin. For landscape format prints I will increase the other side margin or just trim so I have equal margins afterwards. I do have 'a thing' about margins, if they are off it bugs me to bits!!! Good luck with your business, it's a wonderful part of the world to live. I've explored most of the coastline around you as I've done many of the climbs thereabouts and even one night slept in Hawkers Cabin with a climbing buddy, although mostly sleepless as we were both certain we saw a grave move in the local church yard on the walk to the cliff tops. We both put it down to the local 'flat' but lovely cider we'd had!

@@indigowolf288Hi! I recently purchased this printer and on Hahnemuhle 308, using the rear tray, I get two very fine lines on each long sides, barely noticeable - but you know how it is. If I use the rear slot I get no lines, print looks fine, but it is slightly off, even if I use 25mm borders. Is like the paper gets inside a little bit off. Any idea how to solve this? I will try other papers too soon, but it is annoying to the point I feel like returning the printer. Any help is much appreciated! Thank you!

My printer is on a shelf, I printed some card a few days ago and never knew about this rear loading. I may have to get a mobile stand and relocate the printer. For me it's just home use and I found this video while searching for some software that will help with best ink to paper ratio setting (not sure the proper name for that) ICC I believe? Do you just use the Epson software for your paper settings? One card I printed so far was of a map for a video game and it did not come out well at all. Picture on regular glossy paper works fine. Glad I found this video!

Hello there, I’ve just moved my printer to a better area now which has a little more space for it but I will still need to turn it around every time I need to use the back feeder which is a pain although someone suggested a lazy Susan which is quite a good idea. I use affinity software and then print using the Epson printer settings and so far, the print quality has been great every time. I hope you manage to figure yours out. I have obviously done quite a bit of research now and one thing I have discovered is the importance of good quality paper. I’m glad the video was useful for you :-)

Is it possible to get another of the pieces you have to switch back and forth and leave it installed or does that get in the way of the larger assembly if you try to put it back into the back of the printer? Also, I guess you have to feed each piece by hand if you are printing heavy stock? There is no way to do a small run without having to feed every piece in yourself?

Wow, you must be doing a lot of printing because, it takes me about a year before my ink tanks need to be re-filed. As for the cost, my prior printer was an Epson Artisan 725 (Arctic White), and it still used six (6) ink cartridges. With my Epson 725, about every two months one of the six cartridges would need to be replaced and a full set of all six (6) would also cost about $100 (US). So, for my usage the ink bottles are a great cost savings (smile...smile).

We print on everything up to 310gsm fine art cotton rag using the top feeder like we do with our P900 A2 printer with no issues. We have templates for multiple A6 and A5 prints ganged up on A3 and 13” x 19” paper. We only use the front tray for document paper!!! Also if you are doing volume printing your print production space sucks - get a proper print table with a trimmer and print handling area!

Hi! Thank you for the video. I am a bookbinder and I’m considering buying this print for my projects. I have a laser printer as I mostly bind novels or planners (5-15 a month), but considering adding some colours (school books, magazines) or even photo albums, but probably my work will still be 70% just text, 30% graphs and photos. Despite the fact photo will be maybe less than 10% of my work, quality is important to me.
Is this printer good for that or only photos? Will I waste ink or time printing novels?
I haven’t found anyone talking about text printing on this printer. It’s hard to find information online.
    Thanks a lot!
