Blixa Bargeld looks like an angel with his golden halo in the background. The bad seeds will never be the same :- (. His guitar is perfect here and he should get the credit for writing the music for the song.
I once knew a Chinese girl named Anita. Her Chinese name was 思雪 (si xue: “pondering in the snow”). Very bold, interesting Hun girl. But she was married. And I have honor.
I saw them on two occasions at this time: One was this very gig, the other was @Batschkapp in Frankfurt/Main and I can assure you it was EXACTLY as great as you might think, maybe a little bit greater though (even if there were many planning related problems during the event this video is taken from; it runned under the header "Kings ov Independence" and featured Nick Cave, Swans, The Fall, Butthole Surfers and others) - for me these two concerts are among the very best I've ever seen in my life.
...just discovered this because of comments on "Fever Ray's" version of this song. Nick Cave sounds like Ian Curtis did from "Joy Division." I'm originally a black girl from Bronx, NY. Without RUclips, I would never have found this music.
weird that i choose to watch this video for the millionth time and only notice that this was played august 15th 1987, my birthday! just two years before i was born ha! amazing
I really love this song !!! Brings me so much memory...Saw Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds at the Town and Country Club in London, on October 26 th 1988. Apparently he had just been out a rehab clinic 3 days before the gig. I was with a good friend of mine from Denmark with her boyfriend from Holland, who was a Nick Cave fan as I was too. This friend didn't know much about Nick Cave's music and she looked terrified after 3 songs, when Cave performed one from his previous band "The Birthday Party"... But she did enjoy the gig for sure...Saw him again 20 years after, in 2008, in Marseille. He looked different, more healthier for sure, and it was a different concert !
that seems to be a staple in the lives of the great, no control over the simple events, no control of one self, no control of the habits that create addictions... Still, thanks to that giving in, they can manage to seep the true essence of the human spirit, until they have nothing left and simply fade away. I feel alive Nick, there is no need to give in.
OH MY GOD. Thank you so much for this. I have tears in my eyes...this is aaaaaaaaahhhhhh...so great, one of my favourite songs...this performance is perfect and the quality of the video is amazing :D
@Derdeinemutter I think it's awesome. keeps the scary atmosphere but with a totally different genre. now someone should do an atmospheric-doom metal cover of this...
what the hell? cave isnt growing old disgracefully thats so mean. Hes just continuing to create and it just so happens that society is so bothered by age and it seems so have bothered you too. forget the age and see just how clever he was and still is.
I've never heard about Nick Cave, I also thought this was a Fever Ray's song. Altough I preffer their version, this Nick Cave has an amazing and unique voice.
Nick & co. when they made raw, dark, eerie, brooding and abyssal music with a discreet inner beauty to it. Now they make middle-of-the-road Higgs Bollocks Blues shit !
When I saw Nick at Hammersmith in 2013, they proper fucked up this number; they'd reinvented as a MOTR loungy number ! BLOODY AWFUL ! ! And this is my favourite 80s Nick Cave number; Better luck next time !
@TgirlThelmaANDLouise Its a sign of a young or unsophisticated person to like the cover more than the original, because they never heard the original the first time around.
Nick Cave and Blixa Bargeld sported the best haircut ever in the 80's and early 90's !
Blixa Bargeld looks like an angel with his golden halo in the background.
The bad seeds will never be the same :- (.
His guitar is perfect here and he should get the credit for writing the music for the song.
meravazur he wrote the song
with anita lane
He was always credited for this song...
RIP Anita ✨ thanks for writing the first Bad Seeds song I’d ever heard that got me into Nick and co 🤍
It's a very emotionally moving song
I once knew a Chinese girl named Anita. Her Chinese name was 思雪 (si xue: “pondering in the snow”). Very bold, interesting Hun girl. But she was married. And I have honor.
I would kill to see the 80s bad seeds lineup live
Me too
tried that, nothing happens. except for blood. lots of blood.
cuthere80 exactly. Can’t believe how dum I was. In prison right now
It was not as great as you might think... even if I liked it at that time...
Blixa in his "Beasty" days....what a wonderful noise did he deliver....
1:59 Mick making sure they're all hitting the right chord

Thank you Anita Lane.
they are sensational now, but in the 80s it was really something else. Incredible
and the legendary Kid Congo with them
brilliant lyrics by magical Anita Lane, Cave's first love... one of my all-time-favorite songs *
Rusalka156 I think with Anita's voice the song would sound even more beautiful
RIP anita thanks for writing my favourite song ever ❤❤
weird that i choose to watch this video for the millionth time and only notice that this was played august 15th 1987, my birthday! just two years before i was born ha! amazing

What Birthday Party Song did he perform!!!!!?
I've never seen a ruffled tux look so damn good.
Heaven and Hell in a single line, blood boiling with passion, another primal performance from the Master :)
Mucho Amor
Oh Blixa
masterpiece
Nick cave and Blixa are the Best
ahh, the bad seeds aren't exactly bad without Blixa.
That guitar is just perfect.
that seems to be a staple in the lives of the great, no control over the simple events, no control of one self, no control of the habits that create addictions...

Great to see these clips...roland..:
written by Blixa and and Nicks gf Anita Lane
There is a sister song Lane recorded Sugar in a Hurracaine which also just has etherial slide from Blixa.
This is also one of my all time fave songs.
Perfect line up, Gosh, Nick was so sexy.
The band was perfect, brilliant !

no one does the preacher from hell look better than Nick Cave ... well, maybe next Johnny Cash ... at the very least!
MC Ride as well
@@sunnyblayney3719 Ride is more like a preacher *of* hell.
Rest in peace tempesta, rest in peace Anita Lane 🌹💜🔥
Perfect...
Very sad to learn of the death of Anita Lane. Here.
Anita made her choices❤
Absolutely spectacular.. man I wish j could've seen the original lineup back in the 80s, the best
OH MY GOD. Thank you so much for this. I have tears in my eyes...this is aaaaaaaaahhhhhh...so great, one of my favourite songs...this performance is perfect and the quality of the video is amazing :D

@Derdeinemutter I think it's awesome. keeps the scary atmosphere but with a totally different genre. now someone should do an atmospheric-doom metal cover of this...

hooray for heroin!

TELL ME I'M DIRTY.
Babe Nick.
what the hell? cave isnt growing old disgracefully thats so mean. Hes just continuing to create and it just so happens that society is so bothered by age and it seems so have bothered you too. forget the age and see just how clever he was and still is.
This is great as it is. But I would like to hear the striaght up version first.
I can't believe that if you type Stranger Than Kindness on youtube the first video is a fucking remake. What is the world coming to ?
Kino
The Bad Seeds were a great opportunity for Blixa to try his hand at playing an actual musical instrument. Sort of.
inside the dawn, all my l.
You described a very cliche'd musical syndrome perfectly. Now please name it for me.
@ultravioletlem He is
@Derdeinemutter i like fever ray
Great live version. It sounds just a little bit out of tune but not to much. Adds to the eeriness of the song in a wonderful way.
do you think he is a bit drunk? :P
yes, he is on something.
I've never heard about Nick Cave, I also thought this was a Fever Ray's song. Altough I preffer their version, this Nick Cave has an amazing and unique voice.
Anybody know if that's Blixa playing guitar?
ultravioletlem Fender mustang
yes
Nick & co. when they made raw, dark, eerie, brooding and abyssal music with a discreet inner beauty to it. Now they make middle-of-the-road Higgs Bollocks Blues shit !
@Israe5l Not awfully different from the studio version, which is surprising.
why is he dying
Too bad Nick didn't learn from Blixa and age gracefully, since this is so serene
great song although Nick isn't writer nor musician at this... Berlin, August 1987...Bad seeds at their best...
Sounds like ian curtis
When I saw Nick at Hammersmith in 2013, they proper fucked up this number; they'd reinvented as a MOTR loungy number ! BLOODY AWFUL ! ! And this is my favourite 80s Nick Cave number; Better luck next time !
Heroin
@TgirlThelmaANDLouise Its a sign of a young or unsophisticated person to like the cover more than the original, because they never heard the original the first time around.
what are the nick cave fans thinking about the cover of this song by fever ray?
Pretty shitty in my opinion
Came across a nice Stranger Than Kindness shirt on RedBubble the other day. rdbl.co/2RvA17m
I prefer the Fever ray version
These guys ripped off a band called DIIV from NYC. It's the same riff as the song called Mire by DIIV.
Dan Bowmen stranger than kindnessn has been written just 30 years before...
are you fucking serious? or just an stupid troll?
This you meant this the other way around
Eh, this song came first by a long long way.
Such a fantastic video!
