Kalina's story breaks my heart. Not only was she separated from her mother, all four of her calves were taken from her. When her fourth calf, Skyla, was moved to another pool and lifted out by a stretcher, Kalina began to ram violently into the gate that separated them. She ended up with severe lacerations on her face. She never saw her daughter again and died within a few short years. They forced her to breed at only six years old. In the wild, orcas typically start calving between thirteen to fourteen years of age. Having a calf at eight years old is unheard of in whale society - at least in the wild.
Kalina isn't the only orca to have been bred too young. Takara was torn from her mother, hauled across the country three times to different SeaWorld parks, treated like a breeding mare and separated from two of her calves.
Kohana (Tilikum and Takara's daughter), Skyla (Tilikum and Kalina's daughter), Tekoa (Tilikum and Taima's son) and Keto (Kalina's son and the orca who killed Alexis Martinez) were torn away from their mothers at young ages and shipped off to Spain. Kohana rejected both of her calves, Skyla is dead, Keto has serious anger issues, Tekoa and Morgan are frequently harassed by the other orcas.

tekoadreams, yes and that child was taken from takara at a mere 3 years old, had calves with her uncle at barely 8 years old, and rejected those calves. Orcas are a species that stay with their mothers, their family, their whole lives, not just until they are adults. Just because people and other species tend to separate from their mothers when they are adults, doesn't mean EVERY species does so. Resident orcas remain in closely nit matrilines their whole lives, that's how they live, and that should be respected.

While here, the staff (not experienced with animal behavior or killer whales) kept entering the water with him and giving him full-body rubdowns, encouraging his strong connection with humans. Eventually, a behavior team of four worked there in rotations and did what they could to try to prepare him for a life in the wild. (I say “what they could”, because human selfishness, greed and agendas got in the way of the animal’s actual well-being and chance of success.)
They accomplished a lot in 1999, getting Keiko lean and fit, discouraging inactivity and encouraging movement and exercise, stopped feeding him directly in the mouth (only having him take the fish himself in the water), got him used to live (stunned) fish, and completely stopped in-water interactions with him.
In early 2000, a net covering the entire bay where his sea pen was, had been constructed, and long, arduous training had taken place just to be able to get him through the gate to the new, huge enclosure - which he wanted nothing to do with. He wanted to stay in his “home”, as he viewed it, but he was eventually coaxed out to the bay, and was encouraged (trained, conditioned, because he would never have done it on his own initiative) to spend more and more time there.

Anyone ever hear of Tilikum the killer whale?
In the documentary Blackfish, it's admitted that as a training method, they'd deprive him of food, and punish him for not completing tricks for entertainment. They also paired him up with a very heavily trained whale, and whenever he didnt accomplish the same tricks the other whale did, they'd both get no food for the night. As a result, Tilikum was 'raked' by the other whale. In the morning, the trainers would see that Tilikum was covered in scars and cuts, and he was still performing. He was then on the breaking point. He worked at Sealand, in Canada. He killed a part time trainer, and this person was Keltie Byrne. They were a champion swimmer, as well. He also was at one point shipped to a SeaWorld. There was more reported incidents I'm forgetting, but a very special one happened at SeaWorld. A very professional, very trained, and very emotionally connected person to the whales was sitting with Tilikum, when Tilikum grabbed their ponytail and pulled them down into the tank, and eventually, the whale got their arm and they ended up dying. That was Dawn, the trainer.
    Basically,
Stop capturing whales and hurting them for entertainment and cash.
Edit: Also, it's literally been proven that killer whales are so smart that they have a part of their brains that process emotions and stuff, so SeaWorld and SeaLand abused the one animal that actually can process emotions like *anger.*

If you release the Orcas now they would both die from lack of socialization and protection a pod will give them.
They can’t just join a pod of wild Orcas because they cannot communicate, each Orca is born with their own way of communication by sounds of there pods.
Take it the Orcas in Seaworld where there for their whole lives and did not grow up with a proper Pod so they would be utterly defenseless in the wild without one.
Yes their big and strong but there is strength in numbers.
I would love with all of my heart to see them live a happy life in the wild but it’s just not the way it works in this case.

Don’t put them in there in the first place because if you see when they are happy they’re fins are up and when they are sad and lonely their dorsal fin is down and if it’s not down they are forcing the orca to look happy and if they put it in there in the first place if you let it out it’s family wont remember the orca. And it will no longer know how to hunt. And it will starve to death. These awesome animals were here before us so we are cruel bad people. We have kidnapped them. Don’t ever do this. I’m only in grade 4 and I’m studying to be a marine biologist on orcas. Don’t ever do this. Don’t support sea world. This is cruel. Captivity is not nice.

Is not a torture prision. To me is the same as being born in the zoo, or in a care.

its because of sea world that we know so much about these amazing animals thru there work we have been able to truely know a great deal about these dolphins i see so many on here vilify sea world but its because of sea world that we have so many protections for these creatures be careful what you wish for maybe when we lose that personal connection with them we will go back to killing them by the thousands for food

Actually almost all our knowledge on orca natural behaviors and social connections was done by studying orcas out in the wild. Seawold knows VERY little, if not close to NOTHING about their natural behavior because they dont act like they do out in the wild in the tiny tanks they are kept in. Just like scientists dont go to study human behavior in prisons because humans forced to live in tiny cells and eat slop do not act or live the same way at all as people free to live their lives as they wish in the open. If you really believe seaworld is doing anything other than exploiting these dolphins for money by making them perform and calling it "educational" you are lying to yourself just as much as seaworld is lying to the public.
I mean they literally lie about their lifespan and say they live longer in captivity than in the wild????? Like...they have found 100 year old orcas in the wild meanwhile the AVERAGE lifespan for orcas at seaworld is a mere 13 years. 13
Imagine if a company was imprisoning innocent human children and they were dying at 13. There would be public RAGE.
The orca pictured above has already died...just a baby. She didn't even to be a YEAR.

You're ignorant if you think what we know about these animals is because of Seaworld. Best way to learn about a species is studying them in their true habitats. What we know from Seaworld is how these animals are in captivity....not in the natural world because you can't study that in a tank. These animals literally use an entire ocean to live freely. Now they are trapped in an average size pool, for a whale, for the rest of its much shorter life in captivity. The place needs to shut down.
