Kalina's story breaks my heart. Not only was she separated from her mother, all four of her calves were taken from her. When her fourth calf, Skyla, was moved to another pool and lifted out by a stretcher, Kalina began to ram violently into the gate that separated them. She ended up with severe lacerations on her face. She never saw her daughter again and died within a few short years. They forced her to breed at only six years old. In the wild, orcas typically start calving between thirteen to fourteen years of age. Having a calf at eight years old is unheard of in whale society - at least in the wild. And how is this a good thing? There is no need, ever. to cage a massively intelligent and unendangered mammal. I'll reserve my cheers for when SeaWorld closes.
SeaWorld closing would mean shutting down its rescue program (they've rescued over 29,000 animals). Be misinformed and disagree with their orca program if you like, but don't shut SeaWorld down. They're the world leader in marine animal rescue.
Drew Layton I agree. The rescue program--sure that's great--but the same cannot be said of the dolphin and "Shamu" shows. That in itself is ridiculous. These intelligent and social animals should never, under any circumstances, be captured from the wild for entertainment purposes--which is what SeaWorld is notorious for. So you can say their rescue programs are good, but that's not the full story.
Agreed! Not to mention the tourism SeaWorld brings to some cities (its a huge thing in San Diego). SeaWorld closes, tourism dies down by a lot, and the rescue program gets shut down. Sure, shut down the shows and breeding programs, but dont close the park. Many would lose their jobs and livelihood.

While here, the staff (not experienced with animal behavior or killer whales) kept entering the water with him and giving him full-body rubdowns, encouraging his strong connection with humans. Eventually, a behavior team of four worked there in rotations and did what they could to try to prepare him for a life in the wild. (I say “what they could”, because human selfishness, greed and agendas got in the way of the animal’s actual well-being and chance of success.) They accomplished a lot in 1999, getting Keiko lean and fit, discouraging inactivity and encouraging movement and exercise, stopped feeding him directly in the mouth (only having him take the fish himself in the water), got him used to live (stunned) fish, and completely stopped in-water interactions with him. In early 2000, a net covering the entire bay where his sea pen was, had been constructed, and long, arduous training had taken place just to be able to get him through the gate to the new, huge enclosure - which he wanted nothing to do with. He wanted to stay in his “home”, as he viewed it, but he was eventually coaxed out to the bay, and was encouraged (trained, conditioned, because he would never have done it on his own initiative) to spend more and more time there.
Mmmm the baby died 5 years ago and it passed 3 months after birth but high chance would've lasted less then 3 months if born in the wild. she got sick and seaworld tried to help her but she wasn't recovering. try again next time hun.

Stupid. Shocker how that calf came down with a sickness and died at three months old. If they have never done this horrible stuff to the orca that calf would have probably lived a long and happy life in her pod with her mother.
-I dont care- Even with its mother, that calf's life wouldn't have been happy. Being cooped up in a tank too small for their size, forced to perform show's for people, and pretty much kept alive only for the public's entertainment doesn't sound like a happy life to me. Even an Orca taken from the wild and shipped to Sea World for the rest of its life would know more freedom/a happy life than that baby Orca would've. Death, unfortunately, was probably better than gowing up in an aquatic prison.
Lol. Orcas best instinct is mimicking their mother. Thats why Tiki is swimming slowly in circles and breathing so much. Its to teach her baby. She also puts her body between the baby and the tank walls (sadly) so she wouldnt bang into them because the baby doesnt know how to turn or stop.
For those of you willing to go as far as wishing cancer upon someone, DONT. I’ve already had to freaking deal with an anti-cap comment that wanted to wish cancer upon someone. That is INSULTING to people who have cancer, died from it, or had a loved one die from it. I had a loved one die from cancer and I can tell you from the photos I saw it was a horrible experience. I hate how people are saying to just release them. "Oh theyll adapt, theyll find a pod that will teach them." Actually..orcas use their sounds to communicate in their pods right. Alright now listen. Wild orcas and captive raised orcas do not speak the same frequency. Its like shoving a spanish only speaking human in with a japanese only. The captive one would be left without a pod. No teachers, no one to teach the old dog new tricks.

I felt so emotion when I watched this video. Being a female whale or a female being we knows how it is hard to give birth. Giving birth is not a very easy thing for the creatures.
And what is even more hard (every mother would agree) is, when your baby is being kidnapped from you.... And you know they'll work as slaves for human amusement their whole life.
I didn't know whether to like the video as it will be the last one born in that terrible place or dislike it because of the life it would've had (R.I.P. Kyara) and the life her mother and other orcas are currently enduring.
Anyone ever hear of Tilikum the killer whale? In the documentary Blackfish, it's admitted that as a training method, they'd deprive him of food, and punish him for not completing tricks for entertainment. They also paired him up with a very heavily trained whale, and whenever he didnt accomplish the same tricks the other whale did, they'd both get no food for the night. As a result, Tilikum was 'raked' by the other whale. In the morning, the trainers would see that Tilikum was covered in scars and cuts, and he was still performing. He was then on the breaking point. He worked at Sealand, in Canada. He killed a part time trainer, and this person was Keltie Byrne. They were a champion swimmer, as well. He also was at one point shipped to a SeaWorld. There was more reported incidents I'm forgetting, but a very special one happened at SeaWorld. A very professional, very trained, and very emotionally connected person to the whales was sitting with Tilikum, when Tilikum grabbed their ponytail and pulled them down into the tank, and eventually, the whale got their arm and they ended up dying. That was Dawn, the trainer. Basically, Stop capturing whales and hurting them for entertainment and cash. Edit: Also, it's literally been proven that killer whales are so smart that they have a part of their brains that process emotions and stuff, so SeaWorld and SeaLand abused the one animal that actually can process emotions like *anger.*

For all the people that wish to free these beautiful creatures I’m afraid you cannot. If you release the Orcas now they would both die from lack of socialization and protection a pod will give them. They can’t just join a pod of wild Orcas because they cannot communicate, each Orca is born with their own way of communication by sounds of there pods. Take it the Orcas in Seaworld where there for their whole lives and did not grow up with a proper Pod so they would be utterly defenseless in the wild without one. Yes their big and strong but there is strength in numbers. I would love with all of my heart to see them live a happy life in the wild but it’s just not the way it works in this case. We can at least thank Seaworld for stopping the captive breeding so no more Orcas will have to live their whole lives in a small tank.
Imagine working as a sea world trainer thinking you’re doing these animals a favor while feeding them antipsychotics and watching your boss count entrance tickets
YESSS!!!! OMFG YESSSSSS!!!! I’ve boycotted this place my entire life!! I’ve never spent a dime on this place!! And even at 5 years old I knew this wasn’t right!!! They do NOT belong in a pool!!!!! After watching an orca slam it’s own head against a wall over an over from being so stressed out from caged I always promised myself to NEVER support this place. I don’t even say it’s name!!! I can’t believe I was able to be alive to witness this all come to an end!! I’m so happy I don’t even have words to describe the feeling! My heart has just exploded! ❤️ Thank you to everyone to saw this horror as well and helped stop it!! ❤️ you all are angels!
I wonder if they ripped this little one away from its mother like they did the others that I saw in Blackfish? I can STILL hear the heartbroken screams of those poor Orcas in my head. It was absolutely devastating. Of the 400 something movies I have reviewed, this is one of only two movies I can honestly NOT watch again. I will NEVER go to Seaworld or any other park like it. Not ever. I would sooner eat live spiders than give money to these monsters who shackle these beautiful animals to a life of abuse and heartache.
It's always nice to see new life unfold before your eyes. "When there is life, there is hope". -Stephen Hawking I would love to see the mother and calf return to sea and free in the wild. An animal like an Orca is better off left alone in the wild and at sea.
both mom and baby were born in captivity - it would take a very long time for them to be able to release them, like Keiko. He had to be trained to be a true killer whale.
They were raised in captivitiy. They wouldnt survive in the wild. Even with conditioning, as my hs biology teacher (who studied and worked as a marine biologist), stated that mentality wise, with conditioning, they have little to no chance of surviving in the wild.
would you be happy if your best friend gave birth if there was a 50% chance the baby wouldn't survive birth? that's why they are cheering. (the mortality rate is that high at SeaWorld and in the wild)
omg thats a bit gross but beautiful at the same time. They should not be in captivity, people shouldnt pay to see there gorgeous creatures in what are basically jail cells.
Don’t put them in there in the first place because if you see when they are happy they’re fins are up and when they are sad and lonely their dorsal fin is down and if it’s not down they are forcing the orca to look happy and if they put it in there in the first place if you let it out it’s family wont remember the orca. And it will no longer know how to hunt. And it will starve to death. These awesome animals were here before us so we are cruel bad people. We have kidnapped them. Don’t ever do this. I’m only in grade 4 and I’m studying to be a marine biologist on orcas. Don’t ever do this. Don’t support sea world. This is cruel. Captivity is not nice.
its because of sea world that we know so much about these amazing animals thru there work we have been able to truely know a great deal about these dolphins i see so many on here vilify sea world but its because of sea world that we have so many protections for these creatures be careful what you wish for maybe when we lose that personal connection with them we will go back to killing them by the thousands for food
Actually almost all our knowledge on orca natural behaviors and social connections was done by studying orcas out in the wild. Seawold knows VERY little, if not close to NOTHING about their natural behavior because they dont act like they do out in the wild in the tiny tanks they are kept in. Just like scientists dont go to study human behavior in prisons because humans forced to live in tiny cells and eat slop do not act or live the same way at all as people free to live their lives as they wish in the open. If you really believe seaworld is doing anything other than exploiting these dolphins for money by making them perform and calling it "educational" you are lying to yourself just as much as seaworld is lying to the public. I mean they literally lie about their lifespan and say they live longer in captivity than in the wild????? Like...they have found 100 year old orcas in the wild meanwhile the AVERAGE lifespan for orcas at seaworld is a mere 13 years. 13 Imagine if a company was imprisoning innocent human children and they were dying at 13. There would be public RAGE. The orca pictured above has already died...just a baby. She didn't even to be a YEAR.
You're ignorant if you think what we know about these animals is because of Seaworld. Best way to learn about a species is studying them in their true habitats. What we know from Seaworld is how these animals are in captivity....not in the natural world because you can't study that in a tank. These animals literally use an entire ocean to live freely. Now they are trapped in an average size pool, for a whale, for the rest of its much shorter life in captivity. The place needs to shut down.
The most amazing thing about the video is that this will be the last Orca in there, Thank god.

Contrary to every other comment here, I agree. I remember going to an Orca show at Sea World in San Diego in 2009 and I haven't been since. Sea World will likely shut down soon given the lackluster amount of visitors, gonna be sad to see it go.

What i found that was *AMAZING* was that the baby Orca doesn’t know anything - doesn’t know where it is, doesn’t know WHAT it is. . .but the second it can move, it immediately darts to it’s mom for answers, protection, etc.
That was too frickin’ awesome! #NaturesInstincts
Only Humans have the audacity to trap these huge mammals in basicly swimming pools and then name THEM killer whales like I can't even
The name “killer whale” is actually derived from “whale killer” when sailors witnessed them hunting and killing grey whales
I don't understand why those people are so happy.. because poor Takara already knows that in couple of years her beautiful baby will be requested in a different freaking amusement park and will be taken away from her again and she will suffer again.
I don't believe they move orcas around to their various facilities anymore. I'm pretty sure thats a thing of the past
@@scottestabrooks7276 they didn’t move her because she died of pneumonia. I wish horrible things didn’t happen just because I think it’s no longer a thing.
They’re stupid that’s why. They’re evil. Imagine poor baby orca and it’s mom.
They're the world leader in marine animal rescue.
finally someone whos educated
Drew Layton I’ll celebrate when they do
i never knew this was at san antonio wtf. i live in houston. but yeah the way they treated them was really shitty, and it's incredibly depressing to know that kyara only lasted three months. its a relief knowing they ended their program :/

FREE THEM!! FREE THEM!! FREE THEM!!
MystMuffin Go free your dog or cat first so it can go live with its ancestors out in the wild because captivity is wrong, then come back to us and tell seaworld to "free the captive orcas."
i would never, ever put my cat or dog in a place where they cant do shit or do what ever their nature tells em to do, my pets, is free to do what ever they want, animals arent just "pets" they are living n breathing things like we are.. we are their guardians.. these whales doesnt have a choice at all n lives in such small shitty tanks, and entertaining people just to eat.. like really? ..they cant go outside or away n move as they should n get that excercise like cats n dogs can.. its sad n its animal abuse
While here, the staff (not experienced with animal behavior or killer whales) kept entering the water with him and giving him full-body rubdowns, encouraging his strong connection with humans. Eventually, a behavior team of four worked there in rotations and did what they could to try to prepare him for a life in the wild. (I say “what they could”, because human selfishness, greed and agendas got in the way of the animal’s actual well-being and chance of success.)
They accomplished a lot in 1999, getting Keiko lean and fit, discouraging inactivity and encouraging movement and exercise, stopped feeding him directly in the mouth (only having him take the fish himself in the water), got him used to live (stunned) fish, and completely stopped in-water interactions with him.

Even an Orca taken from the wild and shipped to Sea World for the rest of its life would know more freedom/a happy life than that baby Orca would've. Death, unfortunately, was probably better than gowing up in an aquatic prison.

It’s serious and can’t just be thrown around as an insult or a joke. We need more respectful anti caps that aren’t willing to curse people out for their own opinions. Because a lot of them are just like brainwashed zombies that believe everything they see and are willing to go to unnecessary lengths to try to get people to see “their reason”

I hate how people are saying to just release them. "Oh theyll adapt, theyll find a pod that will teach them." Actually..orcas use their sounds to communicate in their pods right. Alright now listen.
Basically,
Stop capturing whales and hurting them for entertainment and cash.
Edit: Also, it's literally been proven that killer whales are so smart that they have a part of their brains that process emotions and stuff, so SeaWorld and SeaLand abused the one animal that actually can process emotions like *anger.*

It would barely survive a day in the wild. It's not that simple

William Buck Yeah! someone who actually isn't hating on seaworld!! FINALLY! thank you!
but Seaworld SHOULD be hated on
MLPMelodyBlossom Agreed.
Imagine if a company was imprisoning innocent human children and they were dying at 13.
Pobrecita criatura nunca sabrá lo que es ser libre💔
