    Hello.. I just discovered you on RUclips. I am writing from Ankara, the capital of Turkey. I liked your videos very much and found them very logical. I am a Muslim TURKISH. I also study many religious books and it is in my area of interest. I have never doubted the QURAN. But about Mecca, I always asked why Mecca? Your explanations and translation are very nice. If you come to Turkey, I would like to see and host you. Regards.

    I have downloaded the PDF of "Let the Stones Speak". I have a suggestion: it would be nice if in the index had internal hyperlinks to each chapter. I would make the page number the index shows the hyperlink. And also make the page numbers link back to the index.

    Fascinating information, thank you both🙏. When I visited Petra in 2017 I had a few discussions about this topic with local Muslims. The standard argument against Mohammed and the birth of Islam being set it Petra was that it was controlled by the Byzantines and that no pagan worship was permitted there at all. I'm glad to now have these background facts.

      I find it so interesting that this is used as an argument by every day people against the Petra issue. The fact that the edict against pagan worship was issued multiple times should be enough to suggest something's fishy. But when I dug around for accounts of pagans in Byzantium at the time, there was just no end (never mind the war). I'm glad we could provide a little clarity.

      Many thanks for your reply, Chad. I got a similar but fairly angry response from a tour guide in the north of Jordan at the historic Jerash site as from a couple of men in Petra. It seems like it's a standard argument that Muslims tell people like me because they don't have any real rebuttal. But it caught me off guard at the time.

    The statistical and navigational information is highly persuasive. One of the basic questions is whether a pattern that the eye sees (the arrows sort of point to Petra or the Between or Mecca) is statistically significant. It looks like a reputable statistician has used the data and shown that this is the case. Another basic question of statistical analysis is data quality. Dan has clearly done enormous work gathering the data and compiling it in such a way as to be independently verified. Even a determined critic such as Dr King has come around to accepting the veracity of the data. Given the statistical significance of the data, it becomes necessary to posit a means available to the early Muslims to accurately point qiblas towards Petra. It looks like Dan has done this, finding a method that was available at the time. This method deserves independent research too: Were Muslim merchants documented among those typically using this method? What errors typically would occur using this method and do the errors we find match this expected scale of error?

      I have researched both the Derbent Friday Mosque and the Friday Mosque of Sheikh Muhammad Yaragsky. The later mosque faces 290 km north of Jerusalem, and I have not firmly established the direction of the Derbent Friday Mosque but it appears to face almost south. Both mosques appear to be very poorly aligned. Is there another old mosque in this city?
      It is claimed that in 733, one mosque was built in each of the 7 mahallahs of Derbent but I have been unable to locate any of the remains of these mosques. The Derbent Mosque was built in addition to these early mosques for the common Friday prayer. I have not been able to clearly date any of the existing mosques before 1368 although it appears locals like to think it was built in 733.

      @@DanGibsonFilms Dan, I don't have enough information about mosques, but there is another mosque of the 9th-13th century, in the settlement of Kala-Koreish 90 kilometers from Derbent, they say this mosque of the Seljuks of the Khazars who converted to Islam, there are also their cemeteries there.And there is also an 11th century mosque in the village of Richa, also about 80-100 km from Derbent, If I can help you with anything, I will be happy to help, at what email address can I contact you?I would also like to add that Derbent was conquered without a fight by Salman and Abd ar Rahman ibn Rabiya (according to Islamic history), the governor of Derbent Shahrbaraz voluntarily surrendered the city and agreed to be the guide of the Arabs, back in 650. I can also inform you that in the place where Nizami Ganjavi Park now stands, there was an old cemetery, most of which is buried under a construction site

    I want to share with you an important verse from the Quran that I believe has a geographical connection to your thesis.
    This verse tells us that the sea is close to the Sacred House
    Surah 5.Al-Maida (95 & 96)
    96. To hunt and to eat the fish of the sea is made lawful for you, a provision for you and for seafarers; but to hunt on land is forbidden you so long as ye are on the pilgrimage. Be mindful of your duty to Allah, unto Whom ye will be gathered.
    P.S. Do not forget also to look at verse 95, as it lays out the consequences of breaking the prohibition order. Therefore, it is very important that the sea be very close to those in the Sacred House, as religion is a religion of ease, not a religion of hardship.
    We are looking at the truth as it is. Currently, I am very interested in your thesis. I see that it carries a lot of logical arguments.

    If Petra is a new Mecca, How could possibly Prophet Muhammad SAW travel for over 1000km to perform his first pilgrimage from Medina?

    • @DanGibsonFilms
      @DanGibsonFilms  9 месяцев назад +2

      The distance is actually less than 1000 km. But it is a long distance, but it is not impossible. Caravans had been traveling from Yemen to Gaza via Petra for many years, so the caravan routes were well known, and watering spots were all identified.
