How do I disable it? Im not seeing ASW on the debug tool or openxr. I fly with the FS Thunderbirds Demo team, love your settings with the Quest 3/4090. We fly with clear skies and im always getting a flickering with the sky itself. The FPS is amazing but the flickering makes me sick.
@@KevinDLBK If you can send me a private message on my Discord channel. I'll send you a photo of where to find it. Love your displays btw, massive respect for being able to fly in formation like that.
We need an updated version of this video. Why are you still using OpenXR Toolkit if the project is gone and the developer seems to be working with the Virtual Desktop guys. Please make a new video regarding flying MSFS2020 with a Meta Quest 3 headset using Virtual Desktop.
I do absolutely agree, Quest 3 with RD is my favorite headset for MSFS, I do own the Varjo Aero, nice clarity and comfort, but I am feeling much better with the Quest 3. I have removed the gasket using the bobovr m3. I can grab my coffee mug, see my cockpit, nice airflow. The experience with the Quest 3 has brought my VR flying experience to a whole new level. So incredibly smooth, London, New York, Rain etc... no issue at all. Quest 3 is my recommendation to all, save yourself some money and enjoy the experience
@@shawtdusanshawt To record sessions I use Oculus link with cable so i can use mirror. 90% of my flying with Virtual Desktop and latest XR, I turned off openXR toolkit completely. Superb experience
Another reason I use my Quest 3 over my Varjo Aero is being able to open a browser window while in VR. Pass the time on long flights watching RUclips videos. 🙂
Steve - thanks for all of these Quest 3 guide videos. I had a Reverb G2 and got a Quest 3 for Christmas upon your recommendation. I currently have a 3070Ti PC but am in the process of building a new PC with a new 4080 Super once they drop next week (I can't afford a 4090). These settings videos have me prepared and ready to go once I have my PC set up. These videos are SOOO useful for folks like us who want to enjoy flying but need help understanding all of the VR settings information which is admittedly a bit over my head. Cheers mate.
Here's a tip. People notice different things when it comes to graphics. Start with everything on low/off, then set a tolerable render resolution. Then start upping settings only where you can tell something is missing, like clouds higher textures etc. If it doesn't bring anything substantial to the visuals, revert back to previous setting.
No start of with everything on ultra and then lower the terrain level of detail until it feels smooth. MSFS is a cpu bound game. You can play it on ultra. It’s just the terrain slider that’s makes it choppy.
Oh my gosh I cannot believe that I have had Microsoft simulator for near on 2 years running a 4080 64 gig 12900k and I have never ever in my life seen Microsoft simulator looking so good, a special big thank you to you, I can now enjoy flying, instead of tweaking lol
Just a hobby simmer here and reinstalled my pc (using a quest 3) I just wanted to share my experience. At the moment, i don't use the oculus app, just Virtual Desktop, SSW off, but the internal option of reprojection of the sim is turned on, im just testing at the moment.. Not evertything is high, but building and clouds are high.. and it runs good enough, even in the airports.. I must admit i fly smaller airplanes, i like a window when i'm flying.. low and slow, that's my game ;) Got an old cpu and a decent GPU, my cpu is my bottleneck.. Core i7 7700K - RTX 3080 12GB - 32GB Ram
I love Quest 3 with MSFS 2020. In terms of smoothness, what's been most impactful for me is limiting frames within the rivatuner app, instead of openxr toolkit or the nvidia control panel. I limit to 36 fps there and then set 72 frames in virtual desktop, with ASW. This completely smooths out the experience for me, and with a 4080, I find I can increase quite a lot of graphical settings in MSFS with no troubles (even running ultra clouds, which look incredible in VR). I would strongly recommend people give rivatuner a try if they're having issues with stuttering or hitching- it's been the most important change I've made to my own setup, with great results.
I confirm, what a brilliant man you are! Indeed! This does the trick, only having the 4090 and the i910900k I had to set it to 72 in riva tuner statistics server (is it the same thing?) and the stutter was gone completely in the Finland tour and for the most part in London city. However, I had to crank the super resolution up to some 3500 in the open xr tool, at 3000 it will switch between 36 turbo is on and 72 with headroom with no turbo, as it makes more fps in cockpit than the outside view and it switches back to its 72 cos it can make it. So ... 3509 seemed to be the answer. However, the full 4x the original: the 4128 seems to introduce stutter again as it cannot even make 36 then ... Nonetheless, thanx a million, man, this truly is the most impactful thing from all the current advice now here on YT!
Thank you for this video on using the Quest 3 with MSFS SIM game. I have a Quest 3 and right now use it for SIM racing games, along with a RTX-3080TI GFX card, and use the USB link cable to connect to my PC. I have MSFS but have not flown any plane in the game. I know most of you are going for the Crystal headsets now in 2024. Do you have a tutorial in how to get even started in operating the first plane in MSFS?? I know a little bit about Aircraft since I was in the Air Force during the Viet Nam years and worked on and flew in a C-130 turbo prop aircraft. Was a fun 4 years being around the aircraft - the war was not fun though. Even got to sit in the Co-Pilots seat one day while the Pilot was doing some testing of the aircraft after repairs. Anyway, thanks for the video. Take care.
Picked up a quest 3 the other day to replace my ageing G2, it's awesome and a worthy upgrade, and far more versatile and the clarity from the lenses is second to none
@@NorwegianDrone yes, just be aware for good PC usage, you'll need a dedicated WiFi 6 router, a battery pack, a new head strap, a link cable, so the price is not the price. The total was what I paid for my G2 at launch, but yes worth it.
Thanks Steve - I agree it's a fab headset! One of the main reasons I use the link cable, is to be able to adjust the horizontal FOV multiplier to 1.2 (Virtual Desktop does not allow >100%) This removes the black line that I can see in my field of view when moving my head from left to right and vice versa. Just wanted to mention this.
With my 4090 , 7800x3d. VD in godlike mode, 120fps, asw always on and msfs settings to high end with some ultra settings, TAA, . a little higher settings than in video. runs like a dream , can see the smallest of text in cockpit. VD overlay shows around 120fps, dipping to 110 fps occasionally. I find these settings the smoothest.
Have you tried streaming to the Quest 3 via Virtual Desktop using their VDXR implementation of the OpenXR runtime? It definitely feels much smoother than the SteamVR implementation of OpenXR. Interested to hear your thoughts on a comparison.
I have a similar system as you and started with your settings as a baseline. Been tweaking for a couple months and finally within the last couple weeks I really got it dialed in. I agree with you, this headset is phenomenal for the price, especially given where budget VR is going it seems. Thanks as always for sharing!
this is why msfs vr is ridiculous. this is the worst optimized piece of software i have ever seen in my life. take other games as an example: euro truck sim, assetto corsa, you start the game, you switch to vr, done. no tweaking for MONTHS no headache just fun from the first start. msfs is giving me depression
@vrflightsimguy One day you play with VD and another day with occulus app and link cable... What is best? I have a rtx4090 and quest 3. Im using godlike and 72fps in VD and for to see the letters buttons on G1000 I need to use ott with 3600x3800 or something, but then Im down to 40fps with all shadows off and only texture resolution at ultra with DLSS Quality. TAA does not look good and Im getting a drop in FPS😢
Awesome man. Can you make a video for best setting for the quest 3 for DCS? Looking to move from the G2 to the quest 3. Should I get a 4070 Super? ot the 4080 Super?
re ordered the quest 3 due to your exellent review. It was max 15 minutes then headache so i send it back. Now ordered the strap and the gasket along with it. Lets see if things get better. Thanks my friend
Hi New subscriber here & soon to be new VR user with the Quest 3 when it arrives. I'll be using the Q3 in MSFS2020 which I have also ordered a INIU link cable. Can you advise on what software I should be using when I setup my Q3? I'm confused as there seems to be various ones such as the ones you mentioned Openxr or virtual desktop etc. Also my PC specs are RTX4070 Ti super, Tomahawk X670E MB, 32Gb DDr5 Ram, AMD 7800x3d, PC connected to Router via ethernet cable Fibre broadband. will this spec be good enough for VR flight simming? Thanks
Hi Steve, thanks for putting these videos together, your help is much appreciated, thank you for helping us enjoy more this wonderful hobby. I own a HP G2 and just got the Quest3, I'm really enjoying flying with the Q3 with virtual desktop much better over the G2. Happy flying!
Thankyou for your kind comments, it really means a lot. I'm so glad you are enjoy the sim with the Quest 3. I was using it agian yesterday and live it for VFR flying. Best wishes.
I cannot set that custom resolution as shown in the XR toolkit control panel. Alos, ASW enabled results in nasty wobbly artifacts behind propellers. I turned it off and enabled reprojection in the sim, seems to work well. YMMV. Also, coming from a video background I'm skeptical of stacking sharpening and over sampling solutions. Enabling AMD Fidelity FX in the sim and sharpening via Virtual Desktop as well as Snapdragon super resolution and over sampling in the toolkit...I'm not so sure about the effectiveness of that.
See my pinned post 👍 But ASW only works if you can reliably hit the target FPS. You will see some artefacts though, aim to only need one fake frame (80hz, 40fps, 90hz, 45fps etc). Also try my half refresh rate FPS lock.
Regarding encoding bitrate. 4070 Ti Super, 4080, 4080 Super, 4090 have 2 hardware encoders on board and are capable of high bitrates. 4070 Ti (nonsuper) and below have 1 encoder and can struggle starting from 300-400 depending on the game. Maybe it will save you some guess work EDIT: 4070Ti has 2 encoders too. my bad.
I was just abut to buy the Vajo Aero until i saw the video a few days back. Now i dont know what to do. Should i still buy the Vajo Aero anyway? Because it is still a great headset? Or Sould i go with the Quest 3 ? I still have the Oculus Rift S in use...
I've been looking at this headset and see there's two available. Is there a need to go for the 512gb version for FS or would the 128gb version be more than sufficient? Thanks.
Depends if you want to use the meta quest games standalone if not or very limited use 128gb is fine as the pc side doesn’t use it apart from installing virtual desktop if you decide to run it that way
Even with setting on Ultra , are the graphics much worse than without VR? i mean, just doesnt look the same, also there are no cars etc... is this by design?
New to vr. Have just got quest 3 running on a 4070 ti. Does the resolution set in main msfs screen have any impact on the VR display? I’m assuming not since no one really mentions it.
I have not used the XR tool kit yet but I am a avid flight simer and I love the Quest III and now wonder how I loved FS on a normal screen even if I am spoiled with 2 38"curved high end monitors!!!
Anyone know if you can use any flight controllers (eg., The Logitech G Flight Yoke System with Throttle Quadrant) with the Meta Quest 3 and Flight Simulator from Xbox Game Pass or are we stuck with only an XBox wireless controller?
Hey! I bought the quest 3 to go with the 4090, my first wireless headset, coming from the reverb G2 and many others. It's interesting. Have mainly been running virtual desktop. Biggest supprise is the quality of display and the lack of streaming artifacting on highest VD settings. The tilted displays are a little bit annoying, but the readability is extremely high. I have an issue that looks like a tracking issue, but only occure in flight sims (not in standalone) and even when reaching full frame rate. I suspect it is the router. How ever it reports 860 Mbps @5Ghz and it should have a lot of headroom to run VD @200 Mbps flat. Latency is about 50 ms. Router is close to headset. Any Ideas?
Godlike mode - is to be recommended for all gpus. There’s literally no point in adding compression artefacts; the performance gain isn’t massive, and you can get it back with a better image by lowering resolution. This from a 1080ti and Pico 4 user, running MSFS with no issues at all.
I have an RTX4070 card and I can't run FS2020 well. I used your settings, I have directx 12. I'm noticing that the FPS outside the aircraft is much higher than inside
What do I do when quest link doesn't recognize my USB3 as USB3 anymore? I understand that this is a common problem, but I haven't found anyone who can solve it
Link cable, 4090 and still using the Oculus Tray Tool. That's all I use and very happy with the results. The only reason I use OTT is to give the instruments a little bit more sharpness. Other than that I could fly without it and still be happy. I use it in MSFS2020 and X-Plane 12. Personally I think the Q3 is an excellent HMD and it will get better with additional updates. Just like the Q2 got better with time. I still use the Q2 on my race sim and I have no complaints. Thanks for the video Steve. Cheers!
Hi!just wondering. Do you see the letters very clear on your g1000? I have 4090 and use TAA with 120 render scaling. Still the buttons are not clear. But readable. How is yours?
@@robertlunatic what do you mean with "dlss resolution? If I use dlss cockpit is very blurry. Then I need to use OTT and upscale to 4000x4500 or something and get worse fps
I own the g2 which as you said is going to be bricked shortly. One thing that I found with the g2 is that night flights are pretty crappy and washed out. How does the Quest 3 do during night flights? great channel and thanks for your content!
This is perfectly timed. I’m just getting settled on a Q3 + 4090 + 12700k setup and it looks amazing. Being able to read all the Buttons’s in the CJ4 is a game changer. One thing i can’t seem to fix is the cockpit jumping around a little when I move my head. If I pause the game everything stays in places… but when the game is running, things close to the camera stutter in a really distracting way. I was wondering if you’ve encountered this at all? Thanks for covering the VR flight sim space so thoroughly. I wouldn’t have brought the Q3 without your excellent insight.
@@ThorNjordThat's due to talking, as the headset obviously moves with my face. I haven't personally experienced the issue from the poster above, it sounds like a possible tracking issue? I'm not sure. Might be worth checking to see if the Open XR toolkit latency option isn't too low.
I often wondered whether the inside-out tracking might get confused by the image on the monitor. You could always try turning the monitor off and see if that helps (assuming you are sitting in front of it).
Great vid... Can anyone help me? I have everything setup, but cannot bring up the openXR toolkit menu in the goggles.. I'm running steam VR with windows mixed reality openXR and Oculus as well.. trying to play DCS world.
Unfortunetely not work for me. I installed OpenXR as game wanted, it works, but game still saying impossible to enable VR because no OpenXR on my pc...:/
can anyone tell me that do VR render the game or the computer? for example if we play this in laptop with meta quest 2 or 3 , is it same with playing on 4090 computer with meta quest 2 or 3. Anyone want to play this game in vr , do they need to upgrade their computer
Thanks for the update on this VR setup. Been following multiple channels and threads to decide what to replace my G2 with. Software updates seems to have improved this device greatly now. However, the dreaded screen door effect, (SDE) keeps coming up? If the Reverb G2 still had some, SDE, I don't notice it anymore, (Used to it BUT ALSO not great eyes anymore, LOL!) So how do the two compare in SDE? If about the same, then decision is made because I would really like to try and go untethered with no cable since that was a continuous irritation to me with the G2 and past VR sets. Plus my new motherboard will have 6E WiFi for the new 7800 X3D in my upgrade. Thanks for any replies!
Well that depends on you and your network. I like to use the Quest wirelessly, but you may prefer a more stable connection. I'm showing both so that you can make an informed decision for yourself.
after the quest 3 v62 update every one got big probblems with the liquid in charging port" warning while no liquid v60 was fine v62 is bad been on the meta forum and looks like hundreds and more are having same issue one only just bought there quest 3 and it updated to v62 and its comeing up with liquid in charging port" warning while no liquid on the screen not good
Everything got so pricey I'm scared to try any new HMDs. A measly 3080 system almost seems your taking a risk with new VR hardware. There's no way im upgrading my pc so i guess I'm stuck with a soon to be defunct G2. Bowing out of the VR race. It was brief but fun
I have a 3080 and was in the same boat as you. I ended up with a Q3 and on my system it's fantastic. If your still wanting to pursue VR and saving wouldn't take you forever I dont think the head set will disappoint you.
I still fight sim with my G2 even with a 4090. I love the G2 and it's not going to be defunct "soon". By the time it matters that WMR is being dropped, the VR and PC landscape will be so different anyway. I strongly believe that the best VR headset is the one that you decide to like. Everybody can find a reason to dislike any VR headset. I've just decided to like my G2 and, lo and behold, I do!
@@Potatosaurusrex1I have a 3080 and I didn’t think it would be good enough for a Q3. Did you have to connect using a separate router? Some of the videos are a bit confusing.
I have been giving many weeks to this very topic. Here are my own thoughts: Quest 3 is pretty crappy as a standalone device. Graphics are meh, and games boring. Quest 3 as a PCVR unit, is very, very nice. However, I have some bugbears, and im not sure if its my settings, or my expectations at fault. I have so far only used quest 3 in DCS. Am using steam, with oculus VR launcher. 1. FOV - the fov seems ok, as if your wearing one of those WW2 facemasks (goggles) that spitfire pilots wore. Its good, but not amazing. Can this be altered? I don't know. 2. Graphics are good, great even, but not amazing or stunning. I am using a Ryzen 7800xd with 4090. My oculus is set to max graphic settings, which can only be run at 72hz. But still I get some shimmering. I can remove 95% of the shimmer by msaa set to x4 in game, with x8 antistropic. I get a steady 72hz on most maps, with an ocastional 1% low of around 65. On MP maps, its steady 50-70, with occastional 1% drops to 40ish. But still I experience lesser graphic quality than someone using no VR on a LCD screen with a 3090? Is this just the limitations of VR? Dont get me wrong, id never go back to screen 2d play, but I just want mooore! LOL. 3. Bitrate at 940 seems to give me extra latency. It also seems to give the rare micro stutter in DCS. Seems to me that bitrate set at 500 seems better for stability. I have also heard from a meta tech, that bitrate never exceeds 350 anyway in game. True? Any tips, or knowledge would be good.
Great video, Steve, thanks. I bought a second Q3 to give it another go, and I'm glad that I did. It's definitely got better in the few months since being released. One thing that people who use motion rigs and Virtual Desktop VDXR have noticed, when the rig makes sudden, sharp movements then the Q3 freezes and/or stutters and can only be cleared by exiting and re-entering VR. Have you noticed this with your DOF? I use a DOF H3 and have the same problems with VDXR, but no issues when using SteamVR in VD.
FYI - I'm a bit miffed with VR Wave Steve, the right magnetic frame keeps falling off and I have given up emailing them over the last few weeks. Early last week the lense fell out of the right frame and after emailing them still no repsonse. I'll try out the Q3 settings when the vid is finished.
Oh bugger, sorry to hear that. Usually I hear very good reports from them and it's why I changed sponsor from VR Rock 😢 I use the clip on style ones as I prefer them over the magnets.
I'm having trouble with my pico 4. Everytime I go into VR mode in msfs, the game closes down... but only when I go into VR in the game and not in the menu screen. Strange. Is the quest 3 worth swapping for?
He has a comparison between pico4 and q3. But differences are few. Try to reinstall sw or windows before swapping headset as this looks like a software issue
Hi mate! Thanks again for a updated video. After finding the spots at the older video I am still trying to find a sweet spot here. Will definitely try these settings tomorrow for a new run of tests. I do tend to think I start to get crazy.. haha. But my sharpening of distant / horizon / scenery further then in front of the plane, is not getting better then the blurry textures / line I get in my glasses. Too much info online. So hope you know maybe in particular how to solve this? Cheers! And thanks again for the amazing vid.
What if your wifi 5 which is 5Ghz and you get the TP-link axe 5400 router. Would the router make it go up to wifi 6 and 6ghz or do you have to upgrade to fiber internet to get wifi 6?
@@dronetuber833I think if you connect the AXE to PC via Ethernet cable using it as a dedicated access point then it would be 6e to your quest 3. You need nothing else on that dedicated access point . Rest of the house could use 5g off your non dedicated router . Your internet speed has nothing to do with wifi 6 signals . That’s how I have mine set up .
Coming to you for advice on quest 3 a saving for a vr godlike pc so after best setting and knowledge after a pc 4090 to do the best it can coming from a series x box just want the vr experience have had psvr 1 and 2 so I know this will be amazing in vr great channel
I played the free game you get and I couldn't tell the difference between playing on my pc using steam link. I'm sure there was one there but I couldn't tell. Having the option to steam link to PC is so freaking easy to put on, playing wireless VR is magic. I went from HTC Vive to HP Reverb G2 and now Meta Quest 3. The Q3 is easily the best one i've used yet and everything just works.
It's excellent with games made specifically for the Q3, such as Assassin's creed or AW2, but the graphics aren't massively improved with Q2 games that haven't been optimised for the Q3.
@@VRFlightSimGuy But that's just because of cost, right? If someone already had the 512GB, it would work exactly the same as the 128GB for PCVR, right?
Your absolutely right. I’ve actually sold my Crystal and bought a Quest 3 after trying my sons at Christmas. I tend to use Oculus Link cable, I find it gives me the best quality connection and visuals in MSFS. Other games like HLA I use VD for its freedom of the cable. I’m blown away by the clarity of the lenses and FOV in the Q3 and find the reduction in resolution from my Crystal a non issue. I took advantage of an offer at got the Q3 for £388!! There’s nothing that can come remotely close to the VR experience the Q3 gives at that price. Thanks for the video Steve, I hope you keep the Q3 content coming as I think many more people with jump on this headset.
@@darthmelbius What all accessories did you add? Which strap? With a battery? What face gasket did you get? Do you use the Q3 speakers and mic or a separate audio headset? Any other accessories?
@@darthmelbius I had a similar experience. I spent more time tinkering with the settings, my actual enjoyment was greatly diminished by the actual time spent setting up vs playing. The Q3 just works and actually gives me a smoother experience in FS2020. The pass through is superb as you say. Especially when using VD in FS, I just switch off the vr session in FS then pinch with my left hand to bring up the VD settings, tweak and return.. brilliant. I’m on the VR-1 pre order list from day one, but I’m actually considering not investing because of how much I love the Q3.
I tried your settings and I’m really satisfied. It’s amazing. But only when I am in VR and when I look in a direction where the sky is clear (so particularly "violent" in case of 100% clear sky), I get a lot of shimmering. So much that in case the moon is visible during day light, I see two moons. If the west is covered with clouds and the east has clear sky, looking at the west does not bring any problem while looking at the east hurts the eyes. Sorry for my English. Hi thankyou for your kind words. That sounds like it's ASW, I'd recommend disabling it and then halving your FPS to half the refresh rate of the headset, using the open XR toolkit.
@@VRFlightSimGuy Thank you for the answer. I tried everything, unfortunately, I still have the same problem. I still have to look for the source. See you soon
@@VRFlightSimGuy ah yes, I forgot: flight sim, the genre where latency is so much more important than picture quality. Especially when we are talking about 3-5 ms.
You need to try DYNAMIC LOD software. I still prefer the Nvidia super resolution and virtual desktop over link cable with my 7800x3d + 4090. If someone with my same specs want to try overriding resolution to 5800x 6xxx in open xr toolkit.. let me know. I get amazing sharp results.
Thanks a lot Steve for your insights. I'm thinking of switching the G2 for a Quest 3. I just hope it will be an improvement as many are saying. Cheers Mike
DO IT. The sweet spot in the G2 is miniscule. So far I've only tried the G2 and the Quest Pro, and it's no comparison. What I'm hearing is that Q3 is superior to the QPro, especially in MR.
I had the Reverb G2 for 2 years, and liked it a lot. But decide to try the Q3 after lots of reading and videos. The small G2 sweetspot did make me crazy. Still running i5-12600K/RTX3080. Q3 using VDXR is giving me best results. Really good clarity all over the cockpits and better FPS. Almost 2 months with Q3 now... sold the G2 yesterday.
I believe you are cpu bound. You should be able to play it on extremely maxed ultra settings. The thing you wanna turn down is the terrain level of detail slider that eats into your cpu. You can use the autofps mod to do that automatically and dynamically. You just set it to 40 fps for example and then it automatically changes the TLOD. The rest of your video I can’t really agree with. Try this.
@@VRFlightSimGuy do you believe also that the meta guest 3 is less fast than normal headsets (like HP reverb g2 for example) in the case of MSFS? i have heard bad reviews on youtube that you shouldnt get the guest3 for MSFS. is it true? and can you please measure the viewport size of your guest3 browser window? you do that with the howbigismybrowser website. i dont have a guest 3, and i want to use that to figure out if i am going to get one.

Glad I could help! It makes all the effort worth it 😊
Just a hobby simmer here and reinstalled my pc (using a quest 3) I just wanted to share my experience.
At the moment, i don't use the oculus app, just Virtual Desktop, SSW off, but the internal option of reprojection of the sim is turned on, im just testing at the moment.. Not evertything is high, but building and clouds are high.. and it runs good enough, even in the airports.. I must admit i fly smaller airplanes, i like a window when i'm flying.. low and slow, that's my game ;)
Got an old cpu and a decent GPU, my cpu is my bottleneck..
Core i7 7700K - RTX 3080 12GB - 32GB Ram
Can you do an updated video on this please?
Similar setup here, and new to the Quest 3. Thanks for sharing your experience. 👍
@@junglcat9829 Great to hear this is working well for you! Smoothness is so important in VR in Flight Sim- feels amazing when it's all working well. 👍
Take care.
Picked up a quest 3 the other day to replace my ageing G2, it's awesome and a worthy upgrade, and far more versatile and the clarity from the lenses is second to none
do you stil recomend upgrade from g2 to Q3?😮😊
You should request that feature then, that Virtual Desktop dev seems pretty responsive sometimes to ideas.
I don't have the highest speed Internet, do you use link cable or?
Have you tried streaming to the Quest 3 via Virtual Desktop using their VDXR implementation of the OpenXR runtime? It definitely feels much smoother than the SteamVR implementation of OpenXR. Interested to hear your thoughts on a comparison.
Hello, did you notice tearing when moving your head laterally or stuttering? Thx
I have a similar system as you and started with your settings as a baseline. Been tweaking for a couple months and finally within the last couple weeks I really got it dialed in. I agree with you, this headset is phenomenal for the price, especially given where budget VR is going it seems. Thanks as always for sharing!
Nice one, I'm glad you've got a great setting dialed in for your system 🙂
this is why msfs vr is ridiculous. this is the worst optimized piece of software i have ever seen in my life. take other games as an example: euro truck sim, assetto corsa, you start the game, you switch to vr, done. no tweaking for MONTHS no headache just fun from the first start. msfs is giving me depression
@@42LGK I would agree except I feel that DCS is far worse than MSFS on optimization. Still, yes, to your point for sure.
@@42LGK MSFS is far more complex than the titles you mentioned. It's a good job there are people like me and others who come to the rescue 👍
That should hopefully solve things for you, keep me updated :)
Thanks
could you further make a MSFS 2024 ver.?
Would it be considered an upgrade going from HTC Vive Pro 2 to the Meta Ques 3? I play mostly DCS and MSFS game. My GPU is AMD 7900XTX.
I have a nightmare with the controls, do u use the VR controllers ?
Regarding encoding bitrate. 4070 Ti Super, 4080, 4080 Super, 4090 have 2 hardware encoders on board and are capable of high bitrates. 4070 Ti (nonsuper) and below have 1 encoder and can struggle starting from 300-400 depending on the game. Maybe it will save you some guess work
EDIT: 4070Ti has 2 encoders too. my bad.
Very useful thanks!
I was just abut to buy the Vajo Aero until i saw the video a few days back. Now i dont know what to do. Should i still buy the Vajo Aero anyway? Because it is still a great headset? Or Sould i go with the Quest 3 ? I still have the Oculus Rift S in use...
Thanks for the settings. Not sure if i missed it but are you running directx11 or directx12? Also, do you still prefer this method to link cable?
DX11 and yes 👍👍
Can you read the gauges cockpit writing and numbers clearly with the quest 3.
negative
I've been looking at this headset and see there's two available. Is there a need to go for the 512gb version for FS or would the 128gb version be more than sufficient? Thanks.
Depends if you want to use the meta quest games standalone if not or very limited use 128gb is fine as the pc side doesn’t use it apart from installing virtual desktop if you decide to run it that way
Quest 3 also gives you the mixed reality option for people who want to see their hands and gear in VR
Yes I'm going to look into that more soon..
But not on MSFS…
vrsimguy, did you not make anything more about this
Love quest 3, cant wait to upgrade from a 3070 to a 4080 super
Even with setting on Ultra , are the graphics much worse than without VR? i mean, just doesnt look the same, also there are no cars etc... is this by design?
New to vr. Have just got quest 3 running on a 4070 ti. Does the resolution set in main msfs screen have any impact on the VR display? I’m assuming not since no one really mentions it.
6,05 in the Oculus Software, 1.0 should be one click more to the right.
What resolution override for the 4080 in OXR? Should i use DLSS or TAA?
Hay Steve. How did you run open composite with game. For me it is not working. With reverb g2 works fine.
I have not used the XR tool kit yet but I am a avid flight simer and I love the Quest III and now wonder how I loved FS on a normal screen even if I am spoiled with 2 38"curved high end monitors!!!
Cold we use these settings for PICO 4 also? Could you talk more what to setup in VD - SSW? Someone on YT used Disabled, you have Emabled. Thank you
my reverb g2 is about say good night, should i buy a new used hp reveb g2, or should i go for Quest 3?
Pimax Crystal Light would make the most sense. I'll have a review unit soon

Do you use SSW in Virtual desktop with turbo mode on in open xr toolkit?
Any Ideas?
did you solve it, ? im planing change from G2, is it worth it, and have you tried to conect the cable?
@@NorwegianDrone It was due to the router also being connected to a wifi range extender. Once I removed the extender it has been perfect.
Dont use taa! Use nvidia DLSS resolution!
@@robertlunatic what do you mean with "dlss resolution? If I use dlss cockpit is very blurry. Then I need to use OTT and upscale to 4000x4500 or something and get worse fps

Question, how does the Quest 3 compare to the HP Reverb G2? Would it be considered an upgrade or a lateral move?
Lenses are the difference. About same resolution. Wider sweet spot.
I own the g2 which as you said is going to be bricked shortly. One thing that I found with the g2 is that night flights are pretty crappy and washed out. How does the Quest 3 do during night flights? great channel and thanks for your content!

Connect using Link and set the fov tangent multiplier to 0.8/0.8 and get 30/40% increase in fps
Just as we see in this video? I noticed it is quite shaky and am wondering if Steve sees that in the headset?
@@ThorNjordThat's due to talking, as the headset obviously moves with my face. I haven't personally experienced the issue from the poster above, it sounds like a possible tracking issue? I'm not sure. Might be worth checking to see if the Open XR toolkit latency option isn't too low.
I often wondered whether the inside-out tracking might get confused by the image on the monitor. You could always try turning the monitor off and see if that helps (assuming you are sitting in front of it).
Not me… no jumping at all.
Great vid... Can anyone help me? I have everything setup, but cannot bring up the openXR toolkit menu in the goggles.. I'm running steam VR with windows mixed reality openXR and Oculus as well.. trying to play DCS world.
Would 4060ti use the 4090, 3090 or 3070 graphics settings?
Unfortunetely not work for me. I installed OpenXR as game wanted, it works, but game still saying impossible to enable VR because no OpenXR on my pc...:/
How much my Nvidia Control Panel Settings would affect these settings
can anyone tell me that do VR render the game or the computer? for example if we play this in laptop with meta quest 2 or 3 , is it same with playing on 4090 computer with meta quest 2 or 3. Anyone want to play this game in vr , do they need to upgrade their computer
In VR it's all rendered by your graphics card, so just forget using VR in MSFS with a laptop unless it's a very high-end gaming laptop.
You can see SDE when you look for it, but it's a very fine pattern and you soon forget it. It's only visible because the lenses are so good.
@vrflightsimguy One day you play with VD and another day with occulus app and link cable... What is best?
Well that depends on you and your network. I like to use the Quest wirelessly, but you may prefer a more stable connection. I'm showing both so that you can make an informed decision for yourself.
after the quest 3 v62 update every one got big probblems with the liquid in charging port" warning while no liquid v60 was fine v62 is bad been on the meta forum and looks like hundreds and more are having same issue one only just bought there quest 3 and it updated to v62 and its comeing up with liquid in charging port" warning while no liquid on the screen not good
How much difference do you notice with the bitrate? What is the cost of setting it high? Latency?
Yes, too high will indue latency.
Anyone getting a weird shimmering in the upper left portion of your view with the quest 3?
So in order to play VR i need TOP HIGH END graphics card really :(
That sucks the OpenXR Toolkit is no longer being supported or improved....
Here are my own thoughts:
Quest 3 is pretty crappy as a standalone device.
I don't
know.
Does storage of Quest 3 make difference? Is there any difference between 128GB and 512GB for MSFS?
No it’s only for storage of meta quest games for standalone

My pleasure thanks for watching, regarding the router, I've no idea sorry!

For PC VR, def go with 128
@@VRFlightSimGuy But that's just because of cost, right? If someone already had the 512GB, it would work exactly the same as the 128GB for PCVR, right?
Correct. Other than the storage size everything else functions the same. Just not worth buying the higher size of you only plan to use PCVR.

@@VRFlightSimGuy Thank you for the answer. I tried everything, unfortunately, I still have the same problem. I still have to look for the source. See you soon
it's an amazing device. so clear text!
Can you PLEASE do the ideal settings for the PICO 4?
Yep, i love my Q3 its brill.
Great vid Lad.
Cheers 😊
In VD: Why 120 mbps? In my experience it looks much better with h.264+ 500 mbps.
Because of latency, which is not your friend.
You have finally agreed with me!
As everyone else says … just do it !!
ok guys, i wil also just do it.. leaving my G2 next month. i stil suffering tauma after the Quest 2. so hard to trust meta again.
I run a 4070 with a Ryzen 7 5800k , does anyone have experience with MSFS vr with the same specs?
I believe you are cpu bound. You should be able to play it on extremely maxed ultra settings. The thing you wanna turn down is the terrain level of detail slider that eats into your cpu. You can use the autofps mod to do that automatically and dynamically. You just set it to 40 fps for example and then it automatically changes the TLOD.
The rest of your video I can’t really agree with. Try this.
This is an old video but thanks for your comment.
Quest 3 vs Varjo Aero for MSFS?
Varjo Aero is superior (obviously) but it's now discontinued.
How's everyone having such a good experience with the Quest 3 on msfs😂 I'm on an rtx3060ti 16gb ram and ryzen 5 3600 and the stuttering / graphics are absolute garbage, the fenix and flybywire is completely unplayable. Tried everything on openxr, quest configuration etc and I cannot get a decent experience
Your CPU is bottlenecking you
Thanks for the video.
You are welcome!
Do I need open XR to get the best graphics ?
Im a complete noob with VR and my 3070tI computer with link cable is just making MSFS very jittery and low resolution. Its like looking everything blurry and stuttering.
What settings do you think I should enable/disable. I saw your video and Im gonna try those but can you do a tutorial, your videos look extra smooth
DCS any good?
Vid on the channel. Make sure you are subbed if you're not already 👍
Hi Steve, can you post your nvidia settings for the 2070TI, cheers, reset mind and now can't get it back to where it was,
Great video. I'm just starting with the MSFS and need to adjust a bit better my settings to get the most out of my RTX 4070 TI. I'll try to put the settings with the values somewhere in between the 3070 ti and the 4090 values that you show in the video and see how it goes 🙂
Nice one, best of luck and thanks for watching!
How did you get "VR" bar in graphic settings? Its missing in my FS2020.
I have it bound to my yoke or joystick
@@VRFlightSimGuy how please? I can't find any bound for VR in controls.
If you are on Godlike, you don't need the Snapdragon game super-resolution.
Hi Steve, can you make a video concern Quest 3 settings on X Plane 12? Thx
I'll think about it, but I haven't used X Plane 12 in a while.
DX 11 or 12 ?
DX11 for TAA, DX12 for DLSS
@@VRFlightSimGuy thanks Steve 👍
