Kirsten won the GGR race and was able to rescue Tapio after his boat sank. She set several records and is an amazing lady. Watching her drift across the finish with all the different people in different boats was so cool. She spent the night in her boat. Sounds like she is going to be selling Minnehaha. That is sad, she is going to be for the right person to get it. She speaks several different languages and is so humble. Couldn't ask for a better person to win. Between Azores and France she was hitting some high speeds in her cape George 36. Magic carpet 2 is a great boat based on what was just done. Your interview with her was great.
Great video - A big congratulations to the other famous Cape George 36 owner Kirsten, for her fantastic multi record setting win of the GGR! Not that you would sell her, after all the love your putting into Magic Carpet 2 - but your value on her just went up quite a bit I bet.....Cant wait to follow you two sailing around the world as slowly as possible -(The direct opposite of Kirsten's Trip!)
It is amazing a Cape George 36 won the Golden Globe. I want to say you and Aladino are doing an amazing job. Aladino has some amazing tool's and does such a great job of everything.
Ahhhh So this is why Aladino wanted to do the Painting...... Because it is the Paint that gives it such a good finish not the painter!!!!!!! lol..... Great work both of you..... :-)) xx
To watch and listen to Aladino commentary, he looks more relaxed and natural not seated in front of camera. I do indeed enjoy the commentary, and plans how to move forward. My father was a custom home builder. I gained a lot of knowledge from him,and understand the frustration of ripping into something only to discover how much more needs to happen before the forward momentum starts. But starting on a clean slate is so much better than trying to fit into existing perimeters. Love it good job.
So proud of Kirsten Neuschafer a fellow South African for winning the GGR especially with a Cape George 36 built in 1988. MCII will serve you wonderfully on your Global Journey. I Cant wait for next Friday's episode as every week.
Love it - a Cape George 36 has just won the GGR ... I know that others have posted about this - but it's just amazing and I love the craftsmanship that you both do...
Ken is a champion! The woodwork in his boat is on another level! Beautiful inlays, turning and carving, with custom edging everywhere you look. What an amazing interior, they don't make them like that any more! Those drawers are definitely in the best of hands. Great to see you building up again, no more destruction!
After winning GGR . Kirsten in Cape George 38 said they are such an amazing boat, safe and fun , so good to know MC 2 design is held in such high regard, great choice.
You two are made of something special,- you are amazing. Every Friday I so much look forward to getting home from work and watch a new episode. Fair winds and all the best
Thanks Mogens. Most days it sure doesn't feel that way, but everything looks sunnier from the perspective of a short weekly video. This is all really hard and seemingly never ending work. We hope it will pay dividends in the future!
Another great episode. I am waiting for a windfall since I fell in love with the Nauticat 321 in Anacortez (I'm in Port Angeles. ) that doesn't really need much at all to take off round the world. Cross your fingers! Love following along and seeing local scenery from the Peninsula.
I love the more active role Aladino is taking in your videos. He used to be so shy of the camera at the beginning, and he has really grown in film making skills. Meanwhile, Maya is doing her own growing in boatwork. I am sure MagicCarpet II will be beautiful upon completion.
Thank you for another interesting and enjoyable video. My father and grandfather had well made teak skylights like yours. They could never stop leaks in any sea. They had to have canvas covers. I think your sailing tender is a lovelly job. They and I always had solid tenders, pre marina days, clinker and for last 33 years fiberglass. One must have a D raparound fender. Before the war they used the tender,in calm, to tow with oars. They had a tender on a long painter run down by a fishing boat at anchor, at night.
Did you all see that Kirsten Neuschäfer on her Cape George 36, "Minniehaha" won the Golden Globe race yesterday! The CG 36 looked like she sailed very well and very fast!
Maya, your paint job was spectacular. Having used this 2 part product, the environment certainly plays a huge part in the finish product. Can't thank Ken enough for his time and effort with Aladino's corner posts. As you both must know, Kristen sailed her Cape George to an epic win in the GGR, which shows not only is the design seaworthy, yet a fast displacement full bodied craft. Aladino, your an unusually competent wood craftsman genius, everything you touch turns to gold, love the replacement of the balsa core in the galley and anticipate perfection as you redesign and build to suite Maya's taste. Thank you both, so beautiful a project to date and hope to be there for the launching of Magic Carpet 2 this spring.
You are so lucky to have a wife who is willing to sand fiberglass! That alone makes her a keeper, plus her musical talent! Please remember to laugh and take some time to have fun. You guys are young so make sure you act like it! Enjoy. Lovely work as always. Maybe the Duracell folks will let you borrow their inspector!
With every episode of this refit/rebuild I get more excited to see the episode of the finished boat. It's going to be beautiful thanks to your efforts. Great job Maya and Aladino!
I totally love the artistry of your work! The added introduction of other artists, like the incredible mastery of Captain Ken and his wonderful cabinetry and shipbuilding skills! THANK YOU THANK YOU!!
Bob Sands As a timber and Glass Fiber professional Boatbuilder , It does my heart good to see the very rare sight of good tradesman like work being done. Especially on offshore Vessels, wrong materials and would be Boatbuilders are a curse not only at sea, but for any future owner of the Vessel. In my opinion you could not of chosen a better type of design for offshore. Well done !!
It is going to look great! I need to tackle a similar project, a complete galley rebuild so I am trying to build up courage, you are a great inspiration! Thanks for sharing!
I also use a track saw inplace of a table saw, because it is more flexible, cheaper and requires less space. It takes more time and the accuracy is a bit less as with a good table saw especially with series. If you need a very high accuracy you can make your cuts a few millimeters wider and use a sanding machine.
Maya’s selection of background music is so great. Her “grate” double entendres joke was funny. My dad trained as a Navy bomber pilot at Whidbey Island in 1944. Goingbthere made me feel good.
Your boat is coming along nicely, look forward to seeing you splash her. Thanks for sharing Ken's project too, amazing! Perhaps we'll cross paths at the Wooden Boat Festival in September.
You say that Magic Carpet II is in progress. I think that you must not forget the two who is making the progress possible. Thank you both for a amazing ... job, video, story, and and and a never ending and?

You two are genuinely such beautiful people, inside and out and the passion for your project is outstanding! What an inspiration to the sailing community, to the younger generation and the rest of the world. Please know your hard work does not go unnoticed to many people and the work and collaboration with others, is as beautiful as the music you play. Great job!
I love the careful cuts and preparations, and you are both involved in the precision work now - so good to see. Loved Ken's workshop - a Magic Cave to be sure..!! I keep replaing Aladino's explanation on the bronze cockpit drains in last week's episode where he described the purpose of the balls was 'if the boat is upside down, it stops water draining into the boat'. Maya commented 'hmm' without time to fully comprehend what he said. Oh, the subtlety and dry humour. Love it. I chuckle audbly each time I revisit the quip in my mind. Am really enjoying the refit-done-right. Superb effort..! Grant - South Australia.
Every time you post a video I get the feeling of being closer to splash day! Your progress is really gathering speed now. Really a first class job being done! Thank you for sharing all this!
Some see a grate, I just see a magnet for every single thing that I would drop on the floor. Our cockpit drains mock me. They seem to say, what are you going to feed us today.
Keep it up! I love the pace of the new work, and appreciate how hard it can be to speed up without feeling like you are sacrificing your standards. You most certainly are keeping those standards high. Great job!
I want to emphasis that this is not sarcasm. You are doing a great job and something that most of us is not able to do. At the same time you are doing many people a favour by showing what it takes to actually refit a boat. Many think that it is easy to buy a bargain boat and repair it. And if you're handy most of the steps might not be that hard to figure out. Everybody does not need the same perfect finish as Aledino. But in reality for the most of us who have not found a way to make a living out of repairing our own boat we need to calculate time (most of us forget this). You have sobered me many times when I have found a bargain on the net that I would never have time to finish. I will end my comment with a timesavers hint. Keep at it! The boat will get finished! But try the IKEA approach "what is good enough?". Every detail does not need to be perfectly beautiful but rather good enough for the job. You can buy the most beautiful and expensive sofa but it will be just as good for the job as the one that you get from IKEA for half the price. Try the same attitude on your project. The piece you are making should perform a task. Imagine what the piece would look like after a week of use. That is the target. A week old boat is considered new by spectators but the things you use already have some wear. ;-) Thank you for holding on and not taking a dayjob!
Love that you've turned a huge corner into building back your galley, and it is wonderful to have help from such a skilled cabinet builder. Both of you do beautiful work with the tools you have, but a cabinet builder with the right tools is in a class of his own. We happen to go to church with such a man, and he helped me so much in building our kitchen. And he has also been a sailor, so he offers helpful advice for the boat project I'm planning.
Bit late for this one, but it was wonderful as usual! It’s so cool seeing the boat come back together after it was originally taken apart. I remember the episode where y’all had to rip up the galley and destroy the one still-intact area of the boat to fix it. Now, slowly, it’s all coming back together and closing up again. Great to see the boat getting back to it (and thanks to you surpassing) it’s original glory. Can’t wait for the next one! a job being done well - sealing around the screws / sealing all wood and beams including end grains to prevent rot - I watch other vlogs and some wooden boat builders and even vloggers repairing rotten bulkheads and trim are not doing what the both of you have done - they are putting in screws with no sealant / not sealing all wood etc - 20-30 years time their boats will potentially suffer the same fate as magic carpet - which is a shame - build it right build it once - I look at yours and teal from Onboard sailing attention to detail on the work and that is the way to preserve the boats for a long future sailing
