I like this Matt Dillahunty guy a lot.. he's educated, fearless, passionate about the truth and doesn't hold back. He doesn't worry about what people will think of him. And he does his research and understands the concept of rational thinking and the way science operates. I love it.
Seth Coma I haven't watched them in order, but I seem to have seen every episode containing a combination of Tracie, Jeff, Matt and Jen as those are my favourite hosts, and a lot of other episodes.
So, im a truck driver. I listen to these everyday fot 14 hour days. I've been at it for about 6 months. I don't have trouble finding videos I've never seen, and I dont think its letting up. Not to mention there's nonprophets and talk heathen.
I am in the process of listening to all episodes. I am working backwards though. It has taken me about 14 months to get back to here (almost 12 years worth). I listen to them while I work out. Interesting evolution of arguments over time.
Knock-knock. Who's there? It's me, Jesus. Let me in! Why? So I can save you. From what? From what me and my daddy will do to you for eternity, if you don't let me in!
How the hell can this biblical god say that we're born evil and deserving of damnation, when "he" says that he designed and created us in the 1st place? The responsibility for how we humans function is on his shoulders!
Cootabux well to put on my apologists hat for a second (as I was a Christian for many years), they would probably respond by saying that we were perfect until Adam and Eve committed the first sin. But the idea of original sin is also absurd and raises more problems, why should we be accountable for what our ancestors did, and if God is all knowing, he knew that they would eat from the tree anyway.
Adding to that, if we were created in his image...then isn’t he as wrong as we are in his opinion? Hypocrite. And knowing the future he knew he’d fuck up. He sounds almost human in imperfect skills, which makes the ideas about him less far fetched in some sense. Still think faith/religion is BS though.
We (non-believers) are sick and tired of being preached to about ghosts, rituals and magic. We aren't children, and we aren't stupid. You claim to be offended when this is pointed out, yet you keep asking for what we think. As long as there is ignorance, there will be religion to exploit it. Keep your pretentious "faith" to yourself, and we have no problems. Keep it out of politics and public places, too, like the Constitution guarantees.
At the birth of this Nation most citizens were non-religious, and books such as Thomas Paine's "Common Sense" were more prevalent than Bibles. There was no provision for tax exempt status for Religious groups. Slowly the Religious have eroded this and now Religious groups are able to enjoy tax free status and pursue political ends. I do not find this amusing.
+John Pelosi i totally agree. this 'tax exempt' status of religious bodies has allowed utterly proven con-men like joseph smith and l ron hubbard to wreap the benefits of 'freedom of speech'. therein lies the fault - the Founding Fathers NEVER imagined that people would actually sit down and use the Constitution - which is mostly based on trust - and use it to con common ignorant people out of the little money they have. i don't believe they ever thought amerikans would EVER so ruthlessly abuse this position. evangelical christianity or whatever... let's call it evangelicalism... is outright THEFT. call it what you will in other terms, joseph smith was the conduit to god so how could he be a thief? bullshit. he was a thief, a liar of the worst kind and an opportunist that notices how stupid some people actually are; he declares he sees god, convinces a wealthy man only HE can read a special set of writing 'by god', the wealthy man's wife informs the wealthy man to test this obvious liar, she proves he is lying but what happens? the wealthy man believes the even more incredible lies that what he originally read was of the 'devil' and so NOW he will translate what the plates actually say [obviously, making back ups in case the wealthy man's wife tells him to lose the translation again... the wife must have thought she married the dumbest man in the world to believe such utter bullshit]. and L r hubbard was living in a later time of people far more aware than the dullards of joseph smith's time. he even declared to others openly that, in Amerika, any man can make a LOT of money by creating a religion. he knew he was a terrible writer but a terrible writer with a vivid imagination. thus was born the 2nd drabbest religion in the world - scientology. and, boy! did hubbard make a fortune out of that! and the morons keep lining up to join. I SAY TAX THESE BLOODSUCKERS ON THE SAME LEVEL OF BUSINESSES, IF NOT MORE! and no excuses about "but we offer charity". that's crap! about 2% of known charities actually donate to help. you think the 'billie grahams' of the world donate any more than the amount any other businesman donates to avoid paying full taxes? big business donates to charity for financial benefits. a donation of $1,000,000 means NOT paying $1.4 million in standard corporate tax [i actually don't know the rates in Amerika BUT this is how it works in the UK]. it PAYS WELL to donate to charity AND it allows you to put the term 'Philanthropist' on your Financial Portfolio. you win all round... you get to look like a generous guy, you get to seem not greedy and, most importantly, you actually pay a lot less tax. TAX ALL RELIGIONS NOW!
You are missing the point. They do not ask what you think because they care what you think. They ask so they can pull out their canned and scripted argument why what you think is wrong.
'do you accept that its heads?' 'no' 'do you accept that its tails?' 'no' at that point i was hoping matt would ask - 'do you accept that the coin may not even exist?' might have made the point
Killing Jokes Exactly, these theists that call in and present these arguments, moral, ontological, etc, they’re so dishonest, that is not the reason these people believe, I’m sorry but no argument like these can ever prove a god exists, it’s evidence that would prove god. You could prove the claims in the buybull if there is extra biblical history to confirm the stories in the buybull, what we get however is when these events investigated no evidence is ever found.
This is the best episode ever. It not only had the most detailed explanation of why atheist is not necessarily anti-theist, but also has the Mafia Boss example!
I always love the hosts' comments after the screen goes to black. Little snippets from normal, casual people. Keep it up, guys. It's a great show you run!
Well Matt, I appreciate you making the effort even when it does drive you nuts. The more energy you guys use getting the message out, the more good you´re doing. Tracie Harris is also knowledgable and a great asset to the program. I used to be a christian for over 25 years and even today I have trouble getting the indoctrination out of my system. I´m very resentful to the person who introduced me to christianity, even though I know he meant well. He basically ruined large portions of my life.

I REALLY miss these longer shows and tracie's special topics... though at least the shorter showtime forced them to keep the intro less than 15 minutes (matt!!) :D
I just realized: scripture isn't evidence precisely because scripture IS the claim under scrutiny. You can't say "A is true because look, I just wrote down A!" I've been looking for a really easy way to boil this point down and I think I've just nailed it down to a small, concise point. Thought I'd share in case anyone else struggles with this.

Matt was on fire this episode.
13 years ago, matt looked like the singer of a post punk band and paper was stuill a thing that people used.
Do you know any good videos that lay out step by step the logical fallacies. I want to understand it so i can debunk a theist with good logic
The coin flip scenario was an epic pimpslap of logic.
This is Matt Dillahunty at his best. A true classic.
I miss this AE golden age in the noughties. Matt was at his peak. He's become such a crank now, it makes me sad.
@@MegaLotusEater I agree. I made the comment 10 years ago, and now, there's no way I'd watch his content. He jumped the shark way back. I guess this actually WAS Matt Dillahunty at his best. I didn't realize it would be all down-hill from there.
