Any black person? No. There are black people including many black Americans who aren't religious, of course. What did that caller mean by any black person? I've interacted with a lot of black people and I didn't get any indication from the large majority of them that they were religious and also got indications from many of them that they weren't seriously religious. And saying any black person is actually very insulting, I would think, to many black people that aren't very religious.
From my understanding (perhaps yours is different) being religious is still very common in black communities and is seen as tied to being black. There’s a lot of believers in my area ( a majority black area). Things are changing especially with the youth, but I’ve heard from a few classmates that they’re afraid to say they’re not religious because it is so much apart of the culture. There’s black atheist channels as well who speak of the same issues. Even more so than white atheists because again many have tied religious belief with being black in America. You must believe this way, you must vote that way, etc. There’s pressure to go with the majority black opinion so I’ve heard. I’m sure it was even more so in 2006 when this released considering I’m still hearing this stuff in 2020. There were also more Christians in 2006. Currently the US is about sixty some percent religious and it was as high as eighty something percent in the late 90s if I’m remembering the Wikipedia numbers correctly. I think those numbers were referenced from Pew Research on the Wikipedia page. To be fair, there’s plenty of people of all races across even the US who aren’t especially religious or they’re not practicing religious people, but the majority in America still claim religiosity or spirituality. They still believe in God even though they don’t go to church, don’t read the Bible, don’t follow the shitty parts of the Bible, they throw away everything practically, but still claim to believe in their vague idea of God and heaven. Not being especially religious doesn’t necessarily make them atheist or nonbelievers. The US overall is still culturally religious across the board. Even though the nones are growing and most religious people aren’t that religious Americans still won’t vote for an atheist. Fearing if they don’t believe in God, what do they believe? Thinking atheists cannot be trusted.
we all have trauma from racism and religious brainwashing - even if we weren't raised in an overtly racist or religious family. our culture reeks of it.
it amazes me when someone says "believe in science" or when they call science a doctrine. its not a doctrine or something to believe in. its simply the most effective METHOD to understanding our shared reality. obviously when they say that, they dont understand science.
I liked the call with Anthony, although he was preaching a bit. He didn’t seem open minded to change, but he opened a good bit of discussion for others to listen to. We need more people like that calling in.
You gotta have a moral foundation like Christianity. (REALLY?) What's the AGREED upon Christian position when it comes to "What Would Jesus Do" in regards to homosexuality, assisted suicide, capitol punishment, abortion & cloning?? The answer you get depends entirely upon which Christian/denomination you ask.
Boy the callers back then really were the lowest hanging fruit. I mean the arguments haven't gotten much better but the people who call in now typically aren't just plain stupid like a lot of the people calling in these old shows
I think Joe was on the very first show. In the beignet shop. Also in some of the "Lost" early episodes now getting posted. Matt may've still been on his way out when Joe was a host.
The third from last caller just yapped continuously and sounded so harsh to my ears I had to fast forward - the 2021 Matt never would allow that to happen.
It is just annoying listening to the IGNORANCE and lack of education and critical thinking skills in most of the callers. No wonder the US is having so many issues. A few of the callers just wanted to attempt (poorly) to preach and teach the host. Funny thing is, the host are far, far more educated and informed than the fools calling into the show. These callers seem unable to speak proper English, PRETEND to understand what the host are saying, and are on some "better-than-thou" kick, so if they get told off, so be it.
? there are hundreds of older shows that don't. at this point Matt's only been cutting people off (for reasons other than screaming/trolling) for like a month.
OMG THAT CALL WAS SO FRUSTRATING.... Do you believe slavery was right or wrong, how do you determine whether slavery is right or wrong.... The answer is "HOW DO YOU DETERMINE SLAVERY IS RIGHT OR WRONG!?!?" Because he cannot say "the bible" because the bible says slavery is RIGHT....... FUCK!!! The concepts you are trying to get through to this guy are too difficult for him to understand.... If you simply asked him how HE determined slavery was wrong.... he would get it. It’d be weird to name it Agnostic Experience. Idk, I guess I’m both agnostic and atheist technically, but I think my views on God or god (s) are more in line with atheism and specifically anti-theism. Agnostic is too confusing and I would think most atheists are both anyway. Atheist= I don’t believe in a God or god(s) Agnostic= I don’t know for absolute certain there’s no God or god(s). I’d think Atheist Experience was chosen because it’s more clear. There’s a lot of people that refuse to use the word atheist because they believe it to be dirty or it holds too much baggage even though they are atheists rather than theists. It also gives the impression of not wanting to choose. There’s just too much confusion. It’s much easier to just use atheist and have a weak-strong atheist scale.
people on every side disagree over definitions of both atheist and agnostic (especially without adding a qualifier like weak/strong or soft/hard or whatever, or using them together on a grid along with theist/gnostic), and even after the show has been running for over two decades i'm guessing that folks who don't have the energy/attention span to check the website/FAQ first call in with the most common/basic of questions. (lesson #1 when reacting [to reactions] to web videos: there's a first time for everything ... which includes the first time a random individual has encountered a random concept/image) i agree that R.Witt has an odd and probably erroneous theory as to the choice of name for the show, and I agree that it is more clear and all-around easier to repeatedly explain/establish in plain language, especially since when *agnostic* was coined by Huxley, it had way more depth/nuance than subsequent/current usages. we can almost bank on the assumption that most people who ask "what's the difference" have never tried too hard - if at all, ever - to conceptualize the difference between "believing" and "knowing".
Atheism; refers to belief Agnosticism refers to knowledge claims. People will say that they "believe" something, but when you're really, really convinced you say that you "know it".
"Rich people don't like to part with their money." Bwaaahahaha! This would be huge news to all the charities who rely on generous donations from wealthy donors. I sit on the board of multiple non-profits. It is a platitude to say "even a $1 donation will help." That is just feel-good BS. If you can only give $1, then I would prefer that you keep that $1 for yourself, since you clearly need it, and we will probably spend $2 to process your donation. One of my non-profits just finished a capital campaign where we raised $5 million for some major projects. A handful of generous donors provided 98% of the money. We knew this would be the case from the beginning, because that is how it always happens. Nevertheless, we go through the motions of pretending that the other 2% actually matters.
I wonder if Matt has changed his verbage on this Atheist = without theist belief Theist = with theistic beliefs in a deity Agnostic = not sure of beliefs Gnostic = sure of beliefs Antitheist = against theism Deist = belief in a god Adeist = lack of deistic beliefs Antideist = against deistic beliefs I know matt is both atheist and antitheist - i also know he is adeist - but is Matt antideist?
"but is Matt antideist?" no, why would he waste energy on that? i mean if one of them gets in his face he'll argue that their philosophical arguments defending deism are flawed or at best trivially true, but there's no other relevant position until deists start doing horrible shit in the name of deism - which is pretty much an incoherent prospect right off the bat.
@@rckli it's not rude and dismissive. If a deistic god exists, it does NOTHING. It doesn't interact with the universe, so isn't effectively different from one that doesn't exist. Why waste energy on something that doesn't DO anything.

Christians "tap dance like politicians" to get around it. (pathetic)
Anthony is a hot mess
“My dog doesn’t talk about GOODDD”🤣 like so my dog just burns in hell😭
That caller in the middle of the show, sounds like JB Smoove from Curb Your Enthusiasm. I always picture him talking when I hear that caller
ROFL He really does
😂
HAHAHAHHAHA love that guy
Tracie's face @ 1:24:40 looool
That's the thing about non Christians interpreting the bible? Matt WAS a Christian when he was reading it.
What is Matt taking about? I'm looking right at it, and there is no "y" at the end of his name.
27:30, look how reflexively defensive he gets.

I noticed too. The host is just answering his question, but his religious prejudices won't allow him to accept it.
I feel like theists were a lot more confident in their ignorance back when this show was small.
I love the last caller
I liked the call with Anthony, although he was preaching a bit. He didn’t seem open minded to change, but he opened a good bit of discussion for others to listen to. We need more people like that calling in.
He totally failed to address the issue of slavery in the bible.
Good show. Very good conversation.
Haha this was a good show!
Never knew Columbus was running slaves.
Had to bring something back to show for the investment
You gotta have a moral foundation like Christianity. (REALLY?)
What's the AGREED upon Christian position when it
comes to "What Would Jesus Do" in regards to homosexuality,
assisted suicide, capitol punishment, abortion & cloning??
The answer you get depends entirely upon which Christian/denomination you ask.
Boy the callers back then really were the lowest hanging fruit. I mean the arguments haven't gotten much better but the people who call in now typically aren't just plain stupid like a lot of the people calling in these old shows
Joe calling the show before he was on the show ...
I think Joe was on the very first show. In the beignet shop.
Also in some of the "Lost" early episodes now getting posted.
Matt may've still been on his way out when Joe was a host.
when was this recorded? 2008?
April 9, 2006. It's in the video description.
She s so matter of fact but polite. Lovely to watch there brains explode
Haha "Matt Dillahunt" 🤣
Dillahutt
Dilla the Hutt
Jesus Christ Superstar has that aspect of the Judus story in it.
The third from last caller just yapped continuously and sounded so harsh to my ears I had to fast forward - the 2021 Matt never would allow that to happen.
That one dude missed the standard half a dozen times or more.
What’s a MP3 or DVD? Lol
“I have never seen it so it can’t be real.” What kinda ideology…😑
31:40 ''Even though you believe in ''Atheist''
Yes. We believe in an allmighty Atheist. And his name is.......
JOHN CENAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!
"U can't see me, the time is now, now now..."
Renaudjln what! John cena isn’t atheist lol. Then again, he’s a lot like gods, he’s invisible.

This caller is just not listening.
Man these old shows, hanging up right when the call gets interesting
? there are hundreds of older shows that don't. at this point Matt's only been cutting people off (for reasons other than screaming/trolling) for like a month.
OMFG i never wanted to scream at a fuckin screen so bad in my life!!!
Very sad indeed
Too bad they didn't ask "the bible believer" why he believes, based on his ancestors being slaves based on the bible.
I love these crazy believers
Don't give into religion. George Carlin and I.
Smh.. the religion delusion, my baby needs a heart to live, but we must take it from another baby that died. it's God's plan and a miracle! Of course, it all doesn't happen without the experience of a heart surgeon!
Back to back trolling calls. That’s weird but to be expected by extremists.
31.10 he says ''i have to believe there's a god'' despite not being evidently true. That's called self deception. 7
why are black people who call this show especially nutty?
For me, hearing a black person defend the bible,
is just like hearing a black person defend the KKK.
(pathetic)
Thats a one sided conversation. With one side not listening at all.
I always hear “gawd”
Religion makes people talk like idiots
Ha! I’m not rich. I don’t like to part with my money.
HELLO!!!, They answered his question many times, but it doesn't sink into his thick head.
There are no omnipotent gods 👍💚😀
Are you saying there are gods of limited power?
i heard that (more or less) from a rabbi debating Hitchens and Harris - that he was explicitly a theist but didn't believe in omnipotence.
Matt Dillahunt
y
Im sure they named it Atheist experience because the vast majority of people know what Atheist means vs agnosticism. Aka, Agnosticism Experience
It’d be weird to name it Agnostic Experience. Idk, I guess I’m both agnostic and atheist technically, but I think my views on God or god (s) are more in line with atheism and specifically anti-theism. Agnostic is too confusing and I would think most atheists are both anyway.
Atheist= I don’t believe in a God or god(s)
Agnostic= I don’t know for absolute certain there’s no God or god(s).
(lesson #1 when reacting [to reactions] to web videos: there's a first time for everything ... which includes the first time a random individual has encountered a random concept/image)
i agree that R.Witt has an odd and probably erroneous theory as to the choice of name for the show, and I agree that it is more clear and all-around easier to repeatedly explain/establish in plain language, especially since when *agnostic* was coined by Huxley, it had way more depth/nuance than subsequent/current usages.
we can almost bank on the assumption that most people who ask "what's the difference" have never tried too hard - if at all, ever - to conceptualize the difference between "believing" and "knowing".
Atheism; refers to belief
Agnosticism refers to knowledge claims.
People will say that they "believe" something, but
when you're really, really convinced you say that you "know it".
Matt was more of a smart ass when he looked like the penguin lol
and you look like a b
It was nut night.
Wow... Matt used to be mellow.
Nevertheless, we go through the motions of pretending that the other 2% actually matters.
lots of crazy religious callers screaming down the phone back then, glad we dont get them any more
5th grade educated christians lol
Public schools have failed a lot of black children
To prank call the show shows how mindless these guys are.
I wonder if Matt has changed his verbage on this
Atheist = without theist belief
Theist = with theistic beliefs in a deity
Agnostic = not sure of beliefs
Gnostic = sure of beliefs
Antitheist = against theism
Deist = belief in a god
Adeist = lack of deistic beliefs
Antideist = against deistic beliefs
I know matt is both atheist and antitheist - i also know he is adeist - but is Matt antideist?
"but is Matt antideist?"
no, why would he waste energy on that? i mean if one of them gets in his face he'll argue that their philosophical arguments defending deism are flawed or at best trivially true, but there's no other relevant position until deists start doing horrible shit in the name of deism - which is pretty much an incoherent prospect right off the bat.
@@n.presley917 “why waste energy on that?” - rude and dismissive
You remind me of a sophist who doesn’t care to think 🤔
@@rckli it's not rude and dismissive. If a deistic god exists, it does NOTHING. It doesn't interact with the universe, so isn't effectively different from one that doesn't exist. Why waste energy on something that doesn't DO anything.
@@petermirtitsch1235 it does matter. This affects how people lead their lives - a person who believes there is an afterlife vs one who does not.
Deism still allows for a belief in an afterlife
@@rckli NO GOD also allows for a belief in an afterlife. The two are discrete and separate.
