That Sherlock performance is actually part of this whole opening set: ruclips.net/video/5vX5yRtoA_U/видео.html They go nonstop for nearly 20 minutes! (Nope, not the same concert as the Lucifer one, though.)
By the way, if you ever do want to watch an entire SHINee concert, that channel has them with English subs. 👍
Thought I'd add some trivia! Sherlock (Clue+Note) was choreographed by Tony Testa, MJ's choreographer, and was the most expensive choreography at SM Entertainment (apparently by far?) at the time it was commissioned. The version you saw in the concert clip was adapted for the concert experience, but you can see the original choreo in their dance practice here (check the toilet paper roll lol): ruclips.net/video/e0HYZxIzj8s/видео.html
SHINee's asked people to remember Jonghyun and enjoy listening to his music (he was very involved in much of it as a producer, composer, and songwriter), so don't feel too weird about it. :) Streaming official SHINee/Jonghyun videos and music also helps contribute to a mental health foundation operated by his family. And yup, Onew's on a health hiatus probably through December.

SHINee never half asses in concepts. This song introduced me to SHINee and the things that intrigued me was Taemin's long hair and Key's bangs lmao they were so gorgeus and androgynous to me and i loove it

You may have noticed that "Sherlock" felt like you were listening to more than one song because it's a special song that combines 2 songs, "Clue" and "Note," from SHINee's Sherlock album. That's why the title of this MV is "Sherlock (Clue & Note)" If you were to listen to the album you would see that they are two separate songs, but when combined they become "Sherlock." So, what you just heard was the mashup of the two songs. (You should look up the two songs to hear what they sound like separately to understand how "Sherlock" was created.)
Therefore, you also may notice that in the live performance, Minho's whisper part is different than what you heard in the MV because when they perform it live, they chose different parts of "Clue" and "Note" to create "Sherlock" each time. So, their performance is never exactly the same, which is one reason why SHINee's concerts are considered one of the best. No matter how many times you have heard a song or seen them perform, you will never get the same thing twice.
In SHINee's "Sherlock (Clue & Note)" MV the boys are Sherlock-like detectives who are looking for clues among the archives and displays in an old museum. The "ghost" girl -- who is played by Jessica Jung, the former member of Girls' Generation, a group that is also part of SM Entertainment -- is helping SHINee solve a mystery by leaving them clues. At the end they realize that the girl they have been seeing and chasing after all day is actually the girl that was originally involved in the mystery when they find an article talking about her from 1910 and they discover that they must have been seeing a ghost.
The room where they have their dance breaks is the main hall of the museum, like a large ballroom in a mansion or great hall, etc. And the compass rose star in the middle of the floor I interpret to represent SHINee who are known as shining stars and as a symbol for how they are navigating the globe as they reach fans all over the world.
In this song and MV SHINee are supposed to be detectives, so the choreography has been designed to give them Sherlock-like poses and to show them investigating clues, and taking photos, etc. That is why they do that Sherlock Holmes-style exaggerated march, and why you see them kneel down and draw a line on the floor, and why they hold their hands out like they are snapping a photo, and they have that move that looks like they are brushing dust from their sleeves, etc.
Fun fact: If you notice, the brand name on the computer was iWatson. Like Sherlock Holmes' sidekick Watson. The computer helped SHINee solve the mystery.
SHINee was actually starting a fashion trend at that time. SHINee are known for being one step ahead when it comes to fashion because they are the ones that start the trends in Korea that eventually influence fashion trends around the world. Fashion designers actually covet a chance to work with SHINee, or any of the members individually for that matter, because they know that if they can get SHINee to wear their clothes that they will become super popular.
And, yes, this was the era of Taemin with long hair. Although, in the MV, Taemin's really long hair was a wig. He only has long straight hair during the dance breaks, but during the story sections his hair is much shorter and kind of curly. (He had to go back and forth between long and short hair for the MV shoot so it was easier for them to use a wig, but later on for promotions he had hair extensions.) However, he really did grow his hair long for a while during "Lucifer" area in 2010. Taemin with long hair is one of his most iconic looks. I didn't really like his wig look, but Taemin with naturally long hair/hair extensions during Sherlock era is one of my favorites. (He is actually known for making girls jealous because his hair is so perfect.) Many people thing that Taemin with long hair made him look pretty like a girl, but I actually think it's kind of a masculine look on him.
Taemin's hairstyle also made him one of the most popular of the members with their Japanese fans. This was the era when SHINee really started to solidify themselves as Japanese artists, so Taemin's look had Japanese fans gravitating to them. (SHINee debuted in Japan in 2011 and now they are considered one of the most popular artists in Japan as well.)
"Sherlock (Clue & Note)" came out in 2012. So Taemin is now 18 in this MV. Onew is 22, Jonghyun is 21 and Key and Minho are 20.
In the live performance "Sherlock (Clue & Note)" is part of the intro of the concert, but the whole concert is just as intense and amazing as what you just saw. They perform more than 30 songs all with live vocals the entire time. This performance was from their SHINee World Concert IV (SWC4) in Seoul, so it was in 2015.
Key is our fashionista of the group and he is known for creating the outfits for a lot of SHINee's MVs and live performances. Key designed several outfits for this concert, including the ones you see them wearing in this set. The embellishments and design for these military style uniforms were created by him. Key has even been given the official title as SM's director of fashion.
If you think this performance was insane, just wait until you see the full concert. They perform like this for 3 hours straight and they never take more than a 5-minute break in between sets to change their clothes and get ready for the next set. If you watch this full set you will see that right after this, they immediately follow this song up with their song "Shine" and then their Iconic performance of "Stranger" and then "Picasso." They literally go from one song to the next without even skipping a beat. They don't even have a chance to catch their breath, and yet, right after that, when they interact with the audience, they don't even look or sound like the performance has even started. And they do it all while singing live the whole time. :D
The choreography for "Sherlock (Clue & Note)" was created by Tony Testa a very well-known "Hollywood"-famous American choreographer who has also worked with some of the most famous artists, productions and dancers in the world, including Michael Jackson. "Sherlock" was the first time SM (or pretty much anyone in the Kpop industry) had ever used a famous choreographer, and at the time, it was the most expensive Kpop production ever. Once again, SHINee were trendsetters and, because of SHINee's skill level, SM became the first to see the value in using a well-known choreographer to help create their dances and to strive for a level of choreography and video production that surpassed anything that had ever been done before. (Now, SHINee -- and numerous SM groups -- have worked with Tony Testa multiple times over the years.) Today it's common place for Kpop companies to have really famous in-house choreographers, and to seek out people in the industry who are really making a name for themselves to choreograph for them, but SHINee was one of the first.
If you want to see the choreography even better you should check out SHINee's "Sherlock" dance practice video.
Those vocals are why SHINee are known as one of the best live performances in Kpop. Jonghyun is one of the best vocalists in the industry, and what you just experienced is why SHINee is one of the most well-respected groups around. Even as rookies, Jonghyun and Onew were so well respected for their vocal abilities that they were mentors and vocal coaches for several SM trainees, including some of the members of EXO.
This whole concert DVD of SHINee World Concert IV in Seoul -- the whole 3+ hours -- has been uploaded to RUclips by a fan, and it even has English subs for all the parts where they interact with the audience, right in the video, ruclips.net/video/6TknOLesUc4/видео.html. It really feels like you are right there at this concert. You should watch this whole concert, even if you can't react to the full thing -- watch it on your own sometime. :D You really can't fully grasp just how magnificent of performers SHINee are until you watch a full concert from beginning to end and see what makes a SHINee concert so unique.

SHINee's "Sherlock" is one of their most iconic songs and a favorite of many SHAWOLs. It became an instant hit when it debuted in 2012. It's also iconic for several other reasons:
    1) "Sherlock" is the first hybrid song in Kpop. It was cobbled together from two other independent SHINee songs - "Clue" & "Note". Ironically, the next time a hybrid song was done was by SuperM in 2020, of which Taemin is also a member. That song was "One", composed by integrating two of their other songs - "Monster" and "Infinity".
    2) This was the MOST expensive choreo ever paid for by SM Entertainment at that time. Tony Testa, who did Michael Jackson's "This Is It" tour was the choreographer.
    3) The choreography became the most difficult in Kpop at that time, officially taking over first place from SHINee's "Lucifer" in 2010. "Sherlock" would fall into second most difficult choreo once SHINee's "Everybody" of 2013 debuted.
SHINee's Key designed the stage outfits for the SWC IV concert.
SHINee has always been considered the kings of live performances. SHINee's Key designed the stage outfits for the SWC IV concert. This is why we always suggest people react to SHINee live performances. They are on another level.
I would really love to see you react to their very dramatic, dark performance of "Evil" from their 2014 SWC III concert in Seoul: ruclips.net/video/AQ0L6lY2riM/видео.html . This is one of my most favorite performances, and I really think you will enjoy it too. Thanks for another great reaction.

Taemin with long hair hits different, I love that look.
I really recommend you the video called "SHINee - Ring Ding Dong + Lucifer SWC5" once you react to "Ring ding dong" too. that's one of my most favourite live performances of any artists ever, Jonghyun went off in that one.
Stray Kids have just released a title track for the upcoming japanese EP called "social path" - would be great to see your reaction as well. the song is amazing, I love the color palette in the video and it features an amazing japanese singer LiSA.
