Yep. This song started ‘SHINee’s Back.’ It was an anticipated comeback and this was peak 2nd gen golden era of Kpop. Fun fact, this choreography (at that time) was the most expensive choreo SM has ever paid for.
Didn't Michael Jackson's choreographer do it?
@@kazza3282 Yep. It was Tony Testa!
@@aaasss184 Thought so, thanks
Ah welcome to the era when SM decided it was a good idea to put permanent ads on their mvs, it's devastating. Key is a rapper too! He's a triple threat - vocals, rap and dance. He gets a bit overshadowed in dance because he just happens to be in a group with the best dancer in the industry! He actually memorises choreos immediately and is in charge of teaching the rest of the group. Yes that was the origin of SHINee's back, it was their first Korean comeback after a long break, they were busy promoting their Japanese debut the previous year. Key is the one in the outfit that you like, he actually has an official position as a Fashion Director at SM.
There is no greater high than seeing this performed live, even at their online concert this year it was a religious experience. I hope you'll have a chance to watch live stages someday. It is one of the most iconic songs in all of kpop history, up there with Infinite's The Chaser, TVXQ's Mirotic, SNSD's Gee and Genie, Super Junior's Sorry Sorry, Wonder Girls' Nobody and Tell Me, BEG's Abracadabra, T-ara's Roly Poly, iKon's Love Scenario, 2NE1's I Am The Best, After School's Bang, EXO's Growl and KARA's Mr. On that note, if you're interested, a look back at older iconic songs would be a fun series but obviously you have a lot on your plate and you should react to whatever you want! Great reaction as always!
According to Taemin, Sherlock was the song that forced them to be cohesive together as a team. Before then, they were competing against each other and didn't exactly get along all the time.
My favorite part is the dance practice where Taemin runs out of room and just dances off the wall, all casual no-problem-like.
I saw that haha and I was thinking like, “was that apart of the choreo” lol,
also in the very beginning Jonghyun accidentally slapped taemin in the face...taemin, the pro dat he is, never even flinch!!!
Mine's when jonghyun accidentally hit taemin's head for dancing so passionately lol (in their dance practice).
It is two songs in one. Sherlock is the remix of clue and note two independent songs in the album. this song takes lyrics from each song to make one about solvimg a crime through clues and notes...
never knew that!
THE K IN KPOP STANDS FOR KEY. PERIOD.
I've been a k-pop fan for a loooong time and I an honestly say that Sherlock era was the best comeback ever, not only because shawols were so expectant, but casual listeners and general population too, since SHINee is one of the most well liked idols. They got invited to a lot of variety and radio shows and everybody and their grandmas repeated "SHinee's back!", the chorus or part of the choreo, also, from everyone I've heard had ever been to a SHINee live concert, Sherlock feels like singing the national anthem during the world cup.
Please react to the live version too!
Key is actually SHINee’s Lead Dancer, Lead Rapper, and Vocalist. That is why they call him the Triple Threat.
Minho is Main Rapper.
Yes, this is the original "SHINee's back..." Have you seen their guesting on IU's Palette? They covered each other's songs live and IU did Sherlock. She said she had to record a lot because of the layers to the song. The effort put in song production became more apparent to me when they tried to rearrange it for the live.
Yes, definitely watch IU's version, it's amazing!
Taemin's hair is like a whole journey and we're here for ir 😂
In the next SHINee reaction you should react to the live stage of Excuse Me Miss, because I know you'll like the homoerotic vibes of that concert as much as I did lol
One of the reasons why I love watching reactions is that I learn so much from all the fans posting their extensive knowledge about their groups - especially the 2nd & 3rd generation eras...I am a baby shawol/taemint/ExolL and am also discovering new songs and new groups on your channel RJ - when you react to these "early in their career" performances it makes me so appreciate their talent and their development over the years- quite undeniable and simply amazing. Shinee has been around for long - there is so much content that it's a challenge for me to watch them in some order that makes sense in following their journey. I kind of wait for you react to it and at times it is also my first time watching the MV/performance. Its funny but I think I have the same exact thoughts running through my head when you pause the clip and make a comment LOL! Its always nice to watch performances with other fans - sort of a collective strength in numbers 💪! Thanks for your reaction and keep 'em coming!
Hahaha that’s so awesome ! I’m glad we get to enjoy these together!!
Def check out the Live performance of Sherlock from SHINee World Concert IV. That was the video that made me a Shawol
Sherlock is just so iconic, and their live performances are INSANE
This was choreographed by one of Michael Jackson’s choreographer and you can tell ! Very iconic.
Shinee ( GOT7 and EXO) are my favorites in terms of everything, artistry, versatility, choreography and musicality.
The 3 have literally the best songs and performance hell even their albums are work of art and choerent. It’s no wonder they won prizes and are always praised for their lives, dancing vocals and albums. I wish Kpop would’ve leaned more towards that rather than the heavy loud and commercial kpop we have now
SHINee- Sherlock live performances is on another level. Lucifer - DxDxD (Tokyo Dome) live stage and Ring Ding Dong+Lucifer(Remix) SWC V are speechless.
That's SHINee for you, pure greatness. And pretty much no one will argue with you on that fact. LOL :D "Sherlock" is a special song that combines 2 songs from SHINee's album "Clue" and "Note." That's why the title of this MV is "Sherlock (Clue & Note)" If you were to listen to the album you would see that they are two separate songs, but when combined they become "Sherlock." So, in the MV you hear the mashup of the two songs. (Just like with SuperM's new song "One (Monster & Infinity)") SHINee were the first to do it yet again.
In the MV the boys are Sherlock-like detectives who are looking for clues in the spooky mansion. The "ghost" girl -- who is played by Jessica Jung, the former member of Girls Generation -- is helping SHINee solve a mystery by leaving them clues. At the end they realize that the girl they have been seeing and chasing after all day is actually the girl that was originally involved in the mystery when they find an article talking about her from 1910 and they discover that they must have been seeing a ghost.
SHINee are supposed to be detectives, so the choreography has been designed to give them Sherlock-like poses and to show them investigating clues, and taking photos, etc. That is why they do that Sherlock Holmes-style exaggerated march, and why you see them kneel down and draw a line of the floor, and why they hold their hands out like they are snapping a photo, etc.
Fun fact: The brand name on the computer was iWatson. Like Sherlock Holmes' sidekick Watson. The computer helped SHINee solve the mystery.
Key is the blond one with the star shorts and the one with the hat and glasses (the one with the crazy pants in the dance practice), Minho is the tall rapper who jumps over Key in the dance break, Jonghyun is the one with the messy hair and the amazing vocals, Onew is the one sitting in the wingback chair.
And, yes, this was the era of Taemin with long hair. Although, in the MV, Taemin's really long hair was a wig. If you notice he only has long straight hair during the dance breaks, but during the story sections his hair is much shorter and kind of curly. However, he really did grow his hair long for a while. Taemin with long hair is one of his most iconic looks. I didn't really like Taemin's wig look, but Taemin with naturally long hair is one of my favorites. (He is actually known for making girls jealous because his hair is so perfect.) Many people thing that Taemin with long hair made him look pretty like a girl, but I actually thing it's kind of a masculine look on him. "Sherlock (Clue & Note)" came out in 2012 -- 4 years after "Reply." So Taemin is now 17 in this MV.
Taemin's hairstyle also made him one of the most popular of the members with their Japanese fans. This was the era of when SHINee really started to solidify themselves as Japanese artists, so Taemin's look had Japanese fans gravitating to them. (SHINee debuted in Japan in 2011 and now they are considered one of the most popular artists in Japan. They are so popular that they are part of the mainstream music scene and most Japanese citizens don't even consider them foreign artists. They spend about 50% of their career in Japan, so they are fluent in Japanese and they have just as many Japanese albums and songs as they do Korean.
The choreography for "Sherlock (Clue & Note)" was created by Tony Testa a very well-known "Hollywood"-famous American choreographer who has also worked with some of the most famous artists, productions and dancers in the world, including Michael Jackson. "Sherlock" was the first time SM (or pretty much anyone in the Kpop industry) had ever used a famous choreographer, and at the time, it was the most expensive Kpop production ever. Once again, SHINee were trendsetters and because of SHINee's skill level, SM became the first to see the value in using a well-known choreographer to help create their dances and to strive for a level of choreography and video production that surpassed anything that had ever been done before. (Now, SHINee -- and numerous SM groups -- have worked with Tony Testa multiple times over the years.) Today it's common place for Kpop companies to have really famous in-house choreographers, and to seek out people in the industry who are really making a name for themselves to choreograph for them, but SHINee was one of the first.
And yes, at one point in their dance practice video Taemin had to dance while holding onto the wall because the room is too small for this dance and he literally ran out of room. It is said that Taemin is the one that always covers the most space in SHINee dances and he intentionally askes the choreographers to create moves for him that have him moving from one side of the room to the other and back again.
This dance practice is also from 2012, so as you can see, it was old enough that it was before SM had their new fancy giant golden door dance practice room that all their dance practices are now filmed in. Before that room was built, you always knew when it was an SM artist because of that iconic cloud wallpaper. The cloud background in all of their most iconic dance practice videos is classic SM.
If you want to see the choreography for "Sherlock" even better you should check out one of their live concert performances of "Sherlock (Clue & Note)." I recommend their SHINee World Concert IV (SWC4) in Seoul from 2015. ruclips.net/video/M4pINahBoRY/видео.html
lol i'm back and watching it again and i just love this video so much. taemin dressed like an alternate for the '96 women's olympic gymnastics team with the long hair and the puffy outfit. jonghyun and key singing AT each other in some kind of high note duel. minho jumping OVER key in one of the highlights of the choreo and then they all just shadow box for a minute? i just adore it so much. great video, perfect video, perfect song.
Not gymnastics 😂😂😂
Man, Sherlock was IT for me. It was the first proper video of theirs I saw, after seeing one song performed live and I was IN. For years now, no regrets. Legends. Also, when you made eye contact with the camera after confirming Taemin's hair, I felt like we had an understanding haha. Love it. Great day for video releases from you - thanks for showing SHINee so much love!
Hahaha yea, we saw it but we love Taemin no matter what haha
I'll second suggesting you watch the live version (by Shinee World IV). Also, you should watch the Weekly Idol 2x speed version--they killed it!
kings of my life! I love them so much ... I'm always excited to see them like the first time, I really enjoy your journey through their prolific career. Thank you for the love for our shiny ones. I look forward to your reactions to the mv and live performances! thanks RJ, SHINee is back always
🤗💙
Yes Sherlock with the iconic SHINee's back and Taemin's extensions 😍
b4 we had Super M One(monster and infinity)...we hv SHINee Sherlock (Note and Clue)...:))
They really did cameback with a vengeance in 2012 with Sherlock (Clue +Note) coming off from an entire 2011 activities outside of SK, esp in Japan were they debuted in 2011. So yeah, SHINee's back was our mantra since 2012 until today every time they cb. Thank you always for your reaction, I truly enjoy watching your journey of SHINee's music.
More power! ❤
My favourite SHINee song!
SHINee's bac
YES
This is one of my favorite kpop songs.
That Is My Favourite Song .
Love everyones reaction to the perma-ads. Yours did not disappoint. 🤣
#SHINee is the first Kpop idol group who introduce "Practice Video's" to Kpop industry which new idol group's ( and OG 😊) is doing and enjoying now... can you beleive SHINee is the only 2nd Gen group who are on top 5 of most synchronize group which was measured using an up to date electrinic computer analyzer, they are on Top 3... surpassing other new idol's and even the known and famous group now...they really are All Rounder, pure talent. #SHINeeLegendIndeed
i'm so glad you got to see this. it sounds to you like two songs because it is a mash-up of two songs, clue and note--they basically cut all the fat and left the meat in two songs. it's all bop! evidently at the time this was the most the label ever spent for a choreo, and it is still my fave (though i think the general fave choreo is for everybody). thanks for this rj!
SHINee's back Start🤣
The girl is Jessica from Girl's Generation, you can check their MVs, especially I Got A Boy, The Boys, Run Devil Run, Catch Me If You Can, You Think...
I really love that SHINee’s back and SHINee is in the house thing! I remember Blankpink always saying Blackpink in your Area...their signature opening performance! SHINee’s back!
you should watch this live stage from their concert...its iconic
this is one of SHINee's hits 💎 Iconic ! thank you for this reaction 💚
We love the iWatson so iconic!
React to everybody dance practice and live performance. Their vocals are on point with this crazy choreography. Live vocal/performance kings. Choreo kings, outfit kings, vocal kings, everything
Their dance practice used to be 6hrs a day. I don't know what it is now. Maybe I should ask Onew the next time he's in a chatty mood. If you like Onew 'a singing you should check out the sea of hope reality show he's doing or key in the I love alone show.
Definitely best of best shinee songs-
Kpop's famous dance practice videos originated from SHINee actually! They had several "real" dance practice videos very early on which got famous and that's when groups started putting out their dance practice videos too, but polished ones hahaha. Their Replay dance practice was super adorable, the first thing you'll see is Taemin's baby face starting the recording hahah, though I don't know where the video is anymore cries
Please react to the live performance of Sherlock (Clue + Note) and Stranger at their SWC IV or SHINee World IV concert.
Yay Sherlock!!! It’s one of the songs that got me hooked on SHINee in the first place 💚
They also have a dance version of the MV so you can see the different angles of the choreo (and appreciate Taemin’s long hair a bit more) - ruclips.net/video/N8VRaGe3Cqs/видео.html
And just for additional viewing pleasure when they were on Weekly Idol they were challenged to dance to it at twice the speed and they did an AMAZING job - ruclips.net/video/x1PqBgETPZ4/видео.html
Onew had to sit this one out because he was recovering from an injury.
Looking forward to more SHINee reactions!
PLEASE REACT TO EVERYBODY SHINEE THE DANCE PRACTICE IS AMAZING
You can't confuse Key and Onew. Key has a scar in his eye brow. Key exudes sass all day long. I love him so much. I appreciate his firece personality, blunt, and tells it like it is plus he is gorgeous
I just want to run my fingers thru Taemin's hair 😉... Key was rapping too
Sherlock is two songs put together Clue+Note
You should watch the live version also 😊
a lot of shinee and even taemin songs are made for concerts and lives thats why there is more impact. i recommend checking out their concert lives especially sherlock. their live vocals sound more impressive too. well, its pretty shocking haha but if you wanna react to it, just be prepared because key.........
FYI in Korea, they use toilet paper like we use tissue or paper towels, so it being on say the table or just around casually is not a big deal. There's no stigma to a toilet paper roll lying around outside of the bathroom is what I'm saying.
lmao at the toilet paper
I love how you always say "3.2.1." before starting watching bc there's actually a shinee song called 3.2.1
Hi, i am back. Good reaction, ty. I am so excited to start watching ur Shinee content. I recently got to watch a reaction with all the MVs. So i am halfway caught up i think. But now its relisten time. Plus, I love to hear what u think of each song. Taemin bias here and OT5. Sherlock is nice. There is catchy parts. The choreo is cool. Hard too. Loved seeing the improvement. BTS sometimes mess up and they leave the mistake in. But not sure if a new fan would spot it, lol. Taemin's hair is awesome long. He looks so beautiful! Great vocal harmonies. Key is the other rapper. Hugs. -NY USA 2019 Army💟
Watch the live version... Key is the rapper too and a great one. Some dance practices today are even edit. You can see the break point. Here they have toilet paper on the floor. If you watch a drama called entertainer he talks about a dance practice for his group, he says leak it, make the guys wear something presentable hair and make up then tell the press we are outraged by the person releasing this.
The girl is ...Tiffany?? from SNSD! Also, the riots on tumbr as fans of BBC Sherlock were all WTF as SHINee Sherlock tags took over HAHAHAHAHA! Ah, good times, good times...
Jessica from Girl's Generation
@@jonathanwarman3918 Thank you! Is Tiffany in...Amigo? Replay?? I'm not up on the names vs faces of SNSD...(I mean, same for SuJu and it's been 10 years XD )
@@TheHekateris I think Tiffany is the girl in Amigo, but not sure. 100% it is Jessica in sherlock
We miss Jonghyun.. 😔❤
i have listened to this song hundreds of times, but the second you said "it sounds like jennifer lopez" i went "oh my god it DOES sound like 'play'!" before you could even say what song you meant. i can't unhear it now!!
Hahaha oh no I hope I didn’t ruin it for you!
@@rjkpop oh you couldn't. but i am amazed i never heard it before now! it is 100% play.
Have you seen the 2x faster version they did on Weekly Idol? It's awesome ruclips.net/video/MkSpLO3e5N4/видео.html Unfortunately, Onew couldn't perform because of an injury.
Ok RJ, I'll try not to get all shawol psycho on you (lol, no pun intended with the upcoming names). Pronunciation of names: No, not Oh-New. Yes, On-You. No, not Mean-O. Yes, Mean-Ho, with the "mean" having a bit of a short "i" sound also. So, a combo of Mean and Min. Taemin - many pronounce as Tay-Min, but Koreans pronounce it Teh-Min. Jjong is pronounced like it's spelled, and we all have Key down pat. Forgive me, I can't recall if you've seen Excuse Me Miss, a phenomenal R&B song. At the end, Jonghyun introduces the members, so you can hear exactly how they are pronounced correctly. Yes, the Sherlock video is where we get "SHINee's Back" and EMM is the video where we get "Say SHINee, etc." call and response. Here's the link: ruclips.net/video/jSORaqTQykk/видео.html
Fun facts about Sherlock - Taemin said that it was the first song where they all felt like a cohesive group, as opposed to 5 guys doing their own thing, because the cooperation and perfection necessary to get the look right depended on their togetherness. I've also heard that Sherlock was the most expensive K-Pop video ever, to that point. And yes, that toilet paper roll marking center stage... took on a life of its own during the early days of COVID, when people were going crazy.
I didn't like the Everysing Ads but their merch with SM was so nice. It was the best. SM fan merch is so plain and dull nowadays. Just google SM in 2013 they had nice merch with them. SM even did shirts and hats with Sketchers for SHINee at that time in 2013. They should collab with companies to get cute merch out there. I have some SHINee bracelets, Notebooks, and stamps from SHINEE with Everysing. It was just nicer quality back then.
creo que necesitamos más taemin en nuestras vidas... I thinl we all need more Taemin inn our lives and in this canal jajajaja
hold up have you done a guide for them yet? or did you plan on doing one? i know you do a lot of videos so ofc u don’t have to just wondering
Oh definitely planning to do a guide, haven’t done one for this group just yet
Oooh in IU's palette where IU covered Sherlock, SHINee also sang IU's Dear Name and it's wonderful. Please check this if you have time. I think it'd really help you differentiate Onew and Key: ruclips.net/video/2LnCaecCDd0/видео.html
You need to listen to clue and note separately. What you talked about there about the beat staying consistent...
Key raps. Onew does not 😜
