- Ok so I'm in America, and being an Italian who has eaten the best pizza Italy can offer I decided to try this famous New York pizza in Manhattan to see how it compares to the original Italian traditional pizza. I of course went to Lombardi's which is the most famous historical pizzeria in NY.

The one food style they are terrible at imo is Mexican / Tex Mex.

It's strange because it's so soft that you may think it is not good when you see it the first time, BUT....
When I was in the US Navy I had the experience of eating pizza in Napoli. The place I ate at was reccomend by the locals , and I must say it was Heavenly ! I also dined at a ristorante that served me a delicious plate of pasta with mussels and white sauce . Unforgettable ! Ciao !
Best pizza I had was cooked and made (in Acton London UK) by the Italian mother (from Naples) of a friend. Absolutely delicious.
Glasgow pizza is interesting. They take it out of the packet & drop it in the deep fryer. Next to the Mars bar.
I'm sure that in Scotland they fry Plastations 4 too!
When I visited Scotland last year, my main ambition was to try the fabled 'deep fried pizza'. I went to somewhere north of Inverness where they did one of these pizzas, and I thought it was going to be a dreadful experience, actually one of my favorite pizzas I've had (nowhere as good as a European pizza but just the batter added something completely different)!

Even when talking about food this guy's inner teacher will provide you additional information. Admiration to you Metatron.
Whilst I was in Rome I had been to a several pizza places. The funny thing is that the most popular and expensive restaurants I visited were the ones, where I didn't even want to finish my meal (and the pizza was around 20-30 euros), while the best pizza I've ever had in my life was in a small trattoria operated by an elderly couple and their daughter, where a medium sized pizza cost 4 euros and a large one cost 6. It was so delicious I ordered 6 times before I was finally ready to stop eating.
As an American who has never had Italian pizza, I'm not speaking from experience but I think in general Americans prefer more seasoning in the sauce and at least a little crispiness on the crust or at least on the surface of the crust even if it's softer inside. I find sweeter tomato sauce a little off putting. I'm not complaining about your preferences and I don't even know if this is how I'd feel about real Italian pizza but this might be a matter of cultural preference.
As a Native NYer, I can say Lombardi's is hardly the best, it's too small and soggy
I was about to say it doesn't even look like NY pizza. The outer boroughs have better pizza.
Lombardis a huge letdown
I am not from Italy but I try always to always do the dough the italian way, the problem is that not everyone enjoy it, because most people prefer a crispy dough, but I don't!! It hurts my mouth😂
God bless the italian pizza!
Same issue. I consider it an annoying (crumbs everywhere, tedious to chew) if not hurtful experience. Crispiness is a successful marketing BS sell. And it makes food less healthy due to the high peak heat required.
Soft food is for babies and the elderly.
@@NotKimiRaikkonen pizza can't be "soft", it needs consistency to hold itself. But people overcook the pizza bread because ovens don't reach the right temperature.

MICROWAVE HOMEBRAND PIZZA... THIS IS A PUBLIC DISTURBANCE ANNOUNCEMENT!
Sicilian sauce tends to be sweet? That's really interesting, my nonni was from Sicily and she taught me to make the sauce really spicy, lots of dried red pepper. Now I'm wondering if the family changed it when they got to America, but sadly she's gone and I can't ask her.
a lot did change but even Italy is 100% difference after the world wars changed a lot, but when families first come here, they did anything to experiment to make things taste better, those that went through the depression also changed, adding stuff you never would really put in anything, why make it spicy, easy, it was not the best tomatoes, but then now you can afford the best, you still make it the way people did out of habits, of being immigrants or the depression
its a choice, you can put olio piccante on your pizza to make it spicy.
It’s the tomatoes themselves which are a naturally sweeter variety
I was invited into the home of a friend of a friend who moved to Australia from Italy. His uncle, an Italian chef (retired) made several varieties of bread dishes and they used chilli flakes as a condiment, I’d never seen that done before.
Metatron, you are a genuine human, thank you.
New York pizza is based on it being a street food. Chicago style is a little thicker but softer dough, but if you get a Chicago deep dish that's another matter. "Deep dish" comes in two varieties, pan pizza and stuffed pizza... pan is mostly dough, stuffed is mostly cheese and other ingredients. Pan can be eaten by hand, stuffed is more inclined to be cut with a knife and fork if only because it's just so massive.
I come from Chicago and appreciate all the styles because of their diversity. Personally I prefer just a standard pizza from Chicago and occasionally stuff style. But a standard crust Chicago pizza isn't as thin as NYC style, Chicago in that regard is closer to Naples, specifically the crust.
The most expensive ingredient in a pizza is the cheese, so they sometimes try to skimp on that, and in the US buffalo mozzarella on a pizza would be viewed as gourmet if you can find it at all.
Chicago is better then New york style. (opinion only)
If you go to the UK, there’s a franchise recently popped up called MOD. The base is rooted in the California style thin crust, so the place has an atmosphere like California with pop punk and rock tunes playing in the background, maybe the occasional ska tune. It’s fantastic, but at £11.95 per large crust, it’s a little pricey.
Naples' pizza was born as a street food/poor man's food as well. That's why Metatron also mentions the "wallet" thing. Besides, there are many places in Naples that will sell smaller pizzas you can fold and eat while walking around. Alternatively, there's also this thing called "Roman style Pizza" whichi is somewhat similar to american taste. It has a crunchy texture and is quite a bit thicker, and they are usually sold in slices (or "tranci", as we call them here in Italy). This pizza is tasty as well but I think it should be considered its own thing, given the differences in preparation and way of eating it.
Yuuki Kuroutarou “California style thin crust” do you really think that is something that really exists? I mean that is a California invention?
Napoli’s pizza started as a street food too and still is. The difference between Italians and most Americans is that we are pbsessed beyond any limit about food, water and personal care including clothes.

American here from Utah-
I've been to Rome, and I really enjoyed the pizza there.
Italian pizza is more simple in its construction and ingredients but elegant at the same time. And delicious!
The normal US pizza you can get tastes good, but it is overcrowded with ingredients. If the typical American pizza had as little ingredients as Italian pizza, it would just be bland.
What does someone from Utah know about Italian food?
Apparently more than you do, my dear simpleton
Probably about the same as someone from anywhere else would know about (except actually Italians). Probably more if, as this person has, they’ve been to Italy.
@@Bender_B._Rodriguez No that is not what I said. I said what does someone from Utah know about Italian food. I said nothing regarding cuisine from other ethnic groups. I would say that about anyone whose ancestors are not from 1 of the 20 political regions of Italy. All of mine immigrated from to the USA and I was raised on Italian food that is found in the South and Sicily.
So ur utah meat lovers pizza is suddenly all pizzas?
Now you must try Chicago style! The rivalry shall be fought!
I like thick crust pizza. I live in the midwest near Chicago so we have plenty of places that serve very good thick crust pizza around me. I love how it's both crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside as well as pilled high with plenty of cheese and my favorite toppings which include sweet peppers, onions, pepperoni and ground sausage.
I've spent a lot of time in Sicily and also the Naples area over the years and can honestly say I've never had a bad meal, pastry, coffee or wine (even table wine). The ingredients used are so much fresher and the expectation of the food and drinks to be of high quality is just a given. You could stop for fuel on the highway and in the small shop get a cappuccino and pastry and it will be very delicious. Service can be hit or miss for sure BUT the staff is always very friendly...they just may not be in any hurry. TLDR, never had a bad meal in italy.
