Bruh, the same person on the Dolphins fumbled twice on the same play. The same person on the Rams fumbled twice on the same play. And I'm only 1:02 into the video
that four penalties on one play was so incredibly funny just everything. how the ref was short of breath because of the huge scuffle while he still tried to explain it all to the crowd, the crowds' reaction, and the commentators hahahah i've seen most of these but never that thank you for that
But how does 3 penalties against 1 offset each other? The personal fouls should offsets but the holding and roughing penalties should have still counted.
If both teams have penalties on a play, they automatically offset each other. Doesn't matter if they have the same number of penalties on the play or not.
One of the craziest I've seen was at the only NFL game I ever watched in person, Steelers-Chargers, Nov 2008 in Pittsburgh (the crazy ending gets forgotten because of Polamalu's ridiculous diving fingertip-scoop interception of a deflected pass in the first quarter of that game). Chargers are down by 1, have the ball on their own 21, 5 seconds left in the game. Rivers flips a short pass to Tomlinson, who runs about four yards and, right before getting hit, pitches to Chambers. Chambers runs a few yards sideways, and as he's being dragged down kind of backhand laterals it towards two other Chargers about ten yards away. Polamalu darts between them, bats the ball away, picks it up after a couple of bounces and runs it in for an apparent Pittsburgh TD after time has run out. As if that wasn't crazy enough, we hear "The play is under review", then - nothing. Five minutes go by, people are leaving the stadium, still no word. Finally, seemed like almost ten minutes after the play ended, stadium's almost half-empty, the ref finally gets on the mic and says there was an illegal forward pass, ball was dead, game is over. And everyone looks at each other like "say what?" No further explanation, I had to read the sports pages the next day to find out what happened - even though I'd just watched it in person. Bizarre.
I remember watching that on TV. I believe that call affected the spread. In addition to that, the overturn of the final TD meant that this was also the first and only NFL game to end with a final of 11-10.
What I appreciate besides the excellent footage is that it shows that football did exist prior to the 1990s. Too many videos on RUclips boast the « top 10 » of one thing or another but the content only goes back a few years. What you show here is great and unusual football history since broadcast media of the sport began. Thank you.

@ Savage Brick Sports great video Mate. Awesome how you put those clips together champion!! Really good to see archived clips of the NFL from decades ago as well. You're very talented Mate! 😃 👍 👍 👍
Dave Kreig, one of my favorites, holds the career record for fumbles by a QB. Ironically, that tells you how good he was otherwise. Like Russ, he was one of those short QBs that coaches don't want to start, until they notice how many games they win.
It was also the worst announcing of all time. The announcer said that the D-lineman forklifted the O-lineman and threw him backwards into Sanchez. He must either be blind, or he's a big Mark Sanchez fan.
He didn't say forklifted, he said Vince Wilfork, but you're still right about the play being described incorrectly...notice how rarely announcers will correct themselves. Of course, there's only so much spare time in a game >D
2:52 that’s honestly the right play by the punter. Sure they get two points and the ball back but if he just takes the tackle the colts would get the ball at the goal line
Never seen the play at 10:05 before, in a Patriots game where a fan helps out on a play. It's very old footage, but the Patriots only go back to 1960. So this has to be 1960 or 61 maybe ? Surely early 60's. Anyone have info on it ? I've never seen a play in NFL where a fan takes part on the field in a play.
The context is probably buried with most of the rest of the AFL highlights from that time. Even the Tonight Show in 1962 doesn't have a lot of still-existing footage because studios at the time felt that the shows were worthless for posterity and taped over the them or threw them out. Look at video of "greatest plays called back by TD" and you will see a similar play with Denver and Pittsburgh. Denver got flagged for too many men on the field.

But the other team had as well, so would they not offset anyway? I mean I get that it wasn’t called and should have been, but would that have made a difference? Like can you score as the result of an offset penalty?
+nicsandknacksandseams Yes it would have mattered. Both teams should have been flagged for illegal participation, and the offsetting penalties would result in the replaying of the down.
It states in the rule book: "If a fumble by either team occurs after the two-minute warning [...] the player who fumbled is the only player of his team who is permitted to recover and advance the ball." His team mate of course was allowed to recover it but he couldn't advance. If there would've been any time left on the clock it would've been a first down from the spot of the recovery (as it was behind the spot of the fumble). And as +steve b stated it it's in the rule book because of the holy roller (Oakland - SD 1978): en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Holy_Roller_(American_football).
