The night sky, both beautiful and mysterious, has been the subject of campfire stories, ancient myths and awe for as long as there have been people. A desire to comprehend the Universe may well be humanity’s oldest shared intellectual experience. Yet only recently have we truly begun to grasp our place in the vast cosmos. To learn about this journey of celestial discovery, from the theories of the ancient Greek astronomers to today’s grandest telescopes, we invite you to experience From Earth to the Universe.
Directed by the young Greek filmmaker Theofanis N. Matsopoulos, and featuring a sweeping soundtrack from Norwegian composer Johan B. Monell, viewers can revel in the splendour of the various worlds in the Solar System and the ferocity of the scorching Sun. From Earth to the Universe then leaves our home to take the audience out to the colourful birthplaces and burial grounds of stars, and still further out, beyond the Milky Way, to the unimaginable immensity of a myriad galaxies. Along the way, the audience will learn about the history of astronomy, the invention of the telescope, and today’s giant telescopes that allow us continue to probe ever deeper into the Universe.
Director Theofanis N. Matsopoulos described the film as “a colourful and inspiring journey… the visuals are stunning and really speak for themselves in showing just how far humanity’s ambition has taken us in terms of observing and understanding the Universe”.

Do schools still take grade school student's to the big Planetariums where the seats lay back and you are looking up and it is as if you are truly looking at the universe and all in real time? I remember going as a kid and it was something i never forgot. my best memory of grade school!!!

I do like to joke that our Earth's distance from the Sun is perfect, and also is our great guardian the Moon to protect us from the Sun too. Thanks for sharing your lovely video with us, the humble viewer...

    Planetariums are awesome.
I was lucky enough to go to a science exposition in Paris with school and there was a planetarium,an older one with lenses who can only display pure black sky.
You really feel like it's the actual sky.

Just checked and it was at the "palais de la découverte" apart from the planetarium the building itself looks incredible and other expositions seem insanely interesting as well, I honestly regret not taking it in more instead of fucking around with my friends.
Not sure how it works to get tickets, their system is kind of weird and the whole thing seems mostly meant to be towards people going with groups of teens.

“See, Sarah Lynn, we're not doomed..
In the great grand scheme of things, we're just tiny specks that will one day be forgotten..
So, it doesn't matter what we did in the past, or how we'll be remembered.
The only thing that matters is right now, this moment.. this one spectacular moment we are sharing together.

If I built a dome... (I already have a very large screen painted wall) and I projected this video off an 18" spherical half dome mirror. Would I be simulating a home made DIY Planetarium? Is this the type of video I would need to use? My brain hurts from watching and reading about warping truncated fisheye... Can this be done simply? With videos like this?

It was actually the Asians who predicted the astronomical phenomena way before greek, including the sun being the center of the solar system, laws of planetary motion, gravity, and mathematical calculations to back it up, Trigonometry , geometry, but as usual everything starts and ends in Europe and America. Hence this.
