    Photographers want a platform to interact and showcase their work. They don’t want the ads, suggested posts, broken algorithm and crappy reach. As long as users don’t start uploading short reels/videos and turn it into what Instagram is now. VERO is a much better choice than Instagram right now. Also, you can see your photo is higher quality and don’t have to worry about the 4:5 crop

I too have just started using Vero and its a breath of fresh air for photographers and for people who just want to bring the social back to social media!!! no algorithm and no adverts, absolutely love it, seeing work from people I actually follow and not just bombarded with short videos all the time! Yeah I hope it is here to stay! ☺👌🏼

    I think you've discovered the problem (if you can call it that) with a platform like Vero. its a platform for creators, its what you want to see as a creator. I'm not knocking that by any means, but what makes a platform like instagram popular is that its a platform for the consumer.. the mindless scroller, the sitting at a table drinking tea mindlessly consuming the media they're being fed. Vero can certainly be successful in its own right, but I don't personally see if being the next big thing, but that may not be the goal anyway.

    • @TheJoshuaPeg
      @TheJoshuaPeg  2 года назад +23

      I agree, I doubt it’ll be the multi-billion dollar business Instagram is, but I see that as a positive to be honest, because it should help them stick to their goal

    • @bradcofo
      @bradcofo 2 года назад +14

      If the only thing Vero does is keep Instagram honest and prevent more stupid changes from happening, I'll be happy. There's definitely a mass exodus happening right now from IG to Vero

    • @theren8311
      @theren8311 2 года назад +7

      I was about to post the same thing. If you want other photographers to see your work, fine. But if you're seeking clients, a platform where only creators exist and no consumers, will be a waste of time for you. Thing is, consumers won't go where there is not content. So the more creators go to Vero, and say "Follow me on Vero" on Instagram (the same way Vine creators moved their followers to Instagram), then the more Vero becomes a viable platform. Eventually, when Vero becomes very successful, it's going to end up like Instagram. You post something, and it gets buried, because many people are posting as well.. Not just you.

    • @monkeysausageclub
      @monkeysausageclub 2 года назад +6

      That's a very good point. Trouble is the consumer wants to consume shit and not art.
      Instagram can go all TikTok if it wants, the people that want that don't want to see our art work.

    • @chrissnyder4439
      @chrissnyder4439 2 года назад +6

      I'm not seeing the problem. My goal isn't to get my work seen by the mindless scroller (which it isn't be seen on IG anyway, as of late). I want people who are looking to enjoy our art to see it - those who actually care. What benefit is there in the former seeing it?

  • @mohdnorazmil

    I just started using Vero around 4 days ago. So far, better than Instagram. I only see what I want to see... no ads at the moment. I am new but wish (maybe it is already) there is a group style instead of just hashtag or a special tag page where you can get stream of your favourite tag. Other than that, it has been a good journey. One complaint is since a lot of ppl trying it now, it's a bit laggy sometimes.

    Love Vero. I get the concerns about a lack of consumers vs creatives, but it'll always have that, especially when they start charging. And that's cool with me. We have free social media platforms that track you, and are full of toxicity, sock puppets, trollfarms and other idiocy. If there's a platform that doesn't mine data, doesn't have ads and just delivers a chronological timeline of my connections, without the toxicity that comes with anonymous free accounts I'm happy to pay for it.

  • @jumbojayHTX
    @jumbojayHTX 2 года назад +2

    I think if Vero begins a paid subscription service, that would be the death of them. A platform needs followers. Any barrier to entry would be a bad move. I certainly don’t want my Vero account to only be viewed by other photographers. I want everyone’s eyes on my work. The more, the better. I’ve been on Vero now for about a couple of years. I really do hope they become really successful.

    • @Dithnir99
      @Dithnir99 2 года назад +1

      They have to either sell your data or serve you ads to maintain that. We have platforms that do that. For creatives, the subscription service could well act like a form of curation. Corporates looking for creatives showcasing their work are going to find the subscription costs trivial. The millions of randos and fake accounts aren't going to help you, they'll more than likely rip you off.

    • @ajneuschwander8928
      @ajneuschwander8928 2 года назад +1

      That was my thought, too. I get that it would allow them to not have ads, but a subscription service to a social media app would turn off a majority of people from joining. A lot of people might like this, since it'd weed out people who aren't fairly serious photographers from posting and clogging up the timeline.; But if the only people on it are photographers trying to showcase their own work, who's going to see your photos?
      That may not necessarily be a bad thing, but it would make Vero SUPER niche and definitely not an app for anyone who isn't already a somewhat established photographer

    Thank you for posting this video. I was searching through RUclips for advice on creating an Instagram account after years of umming and arrring about it. As a photographer with a website and Facebook accounts I have been told many times (especially my marketing consultants and "influencers") that I MUST be on Instagram to get noticed. But it seemed to me that it was a lot of faff to have to keep posting anything and everything (reformated to fit preferred Instagram format) just to keep your head above the tide of meaningless crap. And to be noticed by who? Anyway I was just about to put my toe in the water of Instagram to give it a go after a good friend (a professional musician) said "give it a go, there's nothing to loose" And then I came across this video ! So thank you. I get the impression that, like yourself, I dont want to post "reels" either so it's time to explore VERO.

    I manage the estate of a photographer, Sam Haskins, due to my own research and the endorsement of RUclipsrs I set up an estate account on Vero and the sense of being there is just ...dead...there is nothing happening, no interaction, no serious presence, no followers. See for yourself, make a list of 20 famous photographers and try to find them on Vero. I will stay loyal to the platform to give them a chance but right now there is literally nothing to inspire me. Instagram is basically saying become a TikTok'er or die. Maybe we have to dance to that tune and drive traffic back to our own websites and blogs...remember blogs?...where there's no corporate control. Some people say Twitter is an alternative to IG for artists...perhaps. Something in the Vero business model is not right and the technology is laggy.

    Had signed up a few years ago and stopped using it. Any new app has a very difficult task to gain users. One thing I don't like about it is that one cannot look at their own profile/grid as easily as in IG. And there's a "Call" feature as one of the main features, which I think is pretty useless for such an app.

    • @julieack7427

      I reached out to the Veri team and they said they're adding a feature to have multiple account within the same app like IG. Maybe then we will get it featured on the main page.

    The weird thing is that photographers think Instagram was a “photographer’s” app
    It never was

    I've the same reason to switch. I'm running Vero parallel to Instagram at the moment. But yeah, Instagram is a mess these days.

    if Vero paid me to promote their app, i would also tell all my photographers friends to move on that app 😕
    I might be sinical but i don't think that Peter made a video about it without some sort of sponsorship behind it.

      I don't trust people easily, but Peter is very transparent. He did say he didn't get paid by them in the same video - 09:50 "the end of instagram" - so I believe him. He has a good reputation and has a lot more to lose than what he would gain by being dishonest about that.

    I'd not heard of Vero before so I signed up. I got the sense it was like flicker; perhaps it was the likes/shares images underneath. I guess we shall see. We miss the Heather of the Highlands since we left Scotland, but we now get to take pics and paint Pigface. Pretty even if it has a rude name.

    Hi Joshua, I'm a recent subscriber. Love the content and your natural presentation style. Is it possible to get music volume lowered? I'm getting a lot of complaints from the rest of the family, it keeps making them jump. 😅

    I have had a lot of issue with the Vero app on android. More than 50% of my post attempts have crashed before being published, along with many other weird bugs. That plus the usability issues keep me from getting really interested, but I have managed to get a few posts through. I have heard that iphone app works better.

    The sad reality is if they start to charge, Vero will not take off and be mainstream like Instagram, don't care what anyone thinks otherwise that's just the reality.

    Hi. I saw your video and thought I should make a try for VERO. What I find is it is impossible (is that right??) to upload a photo from my computer. So how do you do it? I suppose you, as most photographers do, use Lightroom or Photoshop before uploading a photo, So I guess you upload from your computer. But how do you do it??? If this app VERO should succeed they will have to make it easier for uploading....Cheers, Roy

    The thing I don’t like is with more photography style apps that are mainly used by other photographers if u start out taking pic it ain’t gonna rly get ur work out there unless other photographers post and help u out but Instagram is potential customers and ppl who like ur work and spread it so u can make a living if of photos but they just want u to pay to grow so I’m struggling as a beginner but I’m willing to do anything at this point to get my work out there and get advice

      If you’re looking to grow, slow growth is sustainable growth; so don’t worry about getting big quick, look at building a solid foundation across multiple platforms

    • @shaunwright6425

      @@TheJoshuaPeg I think he's stating in a sense if Vero is mainly all working photographers there's no business potential. Growth amongst a community of photographers is nice bc you can get inspiration or learn a new technique. Vero has been around since 2015. I had my account a few years back but it was meh. I believe they also fell onto some controversies.

    Hi Joshua, on a slightly different note, where did you buy your black T-Shirt?

    • @TheJoshuaPeg
      @TheJoshuaPeg  2 года назад

      It’s a very cheap but well made one from a supermarket. I don’t like spending a lot on fashion items, I find it better for my wallet and the environment to buy better quality plain clothes that will last a long time 😁

    There is another photo-social-media App without an algorithm. It is called "Subs TV" or only "Subs". Has a better privacy policy than Vero. So I made an account on both of them.

  • @MarioScott
    @MarioScott 2 года назад

    Well Vero has been saying they were going to be subscriptions model for a while and have yet to implement any type of subscriptions service. While other platforms already have implemented a subscriptions platform for, including Instagram. What is taking so long to implement their own?

    • @jdjphotographynl
      @jdjphotographynl 2 года назад

      Can imagine them feeling like they haven't grown enough to make a subscription service worth while yet, usually the ads and algorithms only come when a platform knows it has enough of a following to get away with these kinds of shenanigans.
