Thanks for taking the time to share your experience. Video is much more my thing but despite that, I've grown tired of Instagram. Seems we creators are the ones losing in the midst of their public identity crisis. There's been so much buzz about Vero I thought I'd give it a shot. My experience has been okay. Not blown away. Not bored. Just ok. Then I saw you're video and it made me look deeper into the search and...WOW!...you're not kidding! I also found it was becoming just another distraction for me too. All of that to say, it was an easy decision for me to log-out and delete the app for now. Maybe if they put some filters in, I try it again. Or maybe in time, I forget I even had it. Appreciate your work and sharing!

I actually did notice a few Topless pics from one photographer who had posted an edited version on Instagram. I wondered how long that would go on before someone took notice or complained. Basically at this point since they are getting so much more attention they will have to figure out how to manage the content with out destroying the growth. It will be interesting to see where it goes. I am glad that someone called it out as a lot of the other photography channels I've watched haven't mentioned it. Thank You!
Thanks for the insights. No matter how people feel about it it's definitely good to know in advance. I have two accounts there myself, one for my architectural fine art stuff and one for my documentary stuff. Not quite sure what to do with it yet, I need to focus on my websites, my "homes", first and then expand from there. But Vero as a platform and what it offers seems promising, if only you will be able to get the right audience (which of course all depends on what kind of audience you're looking for). Thank you Zdenka. A lot of what you describe about Vero has been available on Flickr for many years. I have two separate accounts on Flickr. A few months ago I canceled my Instagram account primarily due to everyone posting silly reels, including some serious photographers who thought they needed to post them to keep "current."
I’ve only learned of Vero recently, so as a hobby photographer I did get a little excited. Thank you for your honest review. I think I will give it ago with caution and just make sure I don’t do any searches in front of my dear old mum.
I just signed up on Vero and loved it, also they need to work on finding profiles from photographers more easy to connect. Great app but needs more work for the bugs, a little bit slower on working.
Thanks for your candor and sharing this. It is sad to hear so many big name content creators promoting this service without any mention of the inappropriate content that appears to be easily accessed by minors.
I was actually hoping that VERO would be the place where "art" from a photography sense (read between the lines) would be celebrated and not just lumped in with other types of photos (again read between the lines) by a platform. I hadn't noticed any of the latter on the platform yet, but if it's there it's only a matter of time before the network becomes really specific in their T's and C's like other networks if the current ones are being abused by people and whilst those "creators" will move to another platform, photographers will again be searching for another home. I do have a hope that some of this can be stamped out early on VERO before it becomes too widespread... but then I guess there's probably such a grey area in that respect as to what constitutes art vs "non-art" I don't know how a network can approach this from a legal standpoint.
I agree with the hope that VERO is the place to showcase our art. I wish that it would be possible for VERO to limit or mark specific posts that contain nudity. It would be great if there was an option to toggle that off. While I can just skip to the next post, it would be excellent if I didn’t feel the need to. The real danger is in asking the platform to start content policing. It’s a very small jump from there to where Instagram is now. And while I love the inspiration from other photographers, I think there is a desire that we all share to have our art viewed and appreciated outside the photography community. Not sure if VERO is the place for that or what dangers come from opening it up to be that place.
Thanks for the heads up. I subscribe to creators on the platform who don’t have any of those photos in their feed at all. So, my Vero feed is full of some of the most lovely landscape photography and the app (because it’s just landscape photos) feels like a breath of fresh air.
Honestly, this has tended to be a problem since almost the earliest days of the internet. From where I sit, I find far worse things online than nudity. Many platforms are nothing much more than cesspools. Scams are all over the place. In fact, video games and pornography are almost single handedly responsible for much of the gains in technology and growth/ development of the web. I have even had issues where I was lured into a Zoom room, only to find that the presenter was talking their clothes off and not involved in presenting tech solutions. I will be getting an account in Vero and I don’t suspect it will be of any issue to me, as I will simply click off anything I find objectionable and block when necessary.
@gilbert Your comment and example make no sense, Most of her points are valid especially when She's talking about under age and miners. Instagram, Facebook or RUclips always block nudity which is not the case with Vero as there are no option to block that for kids not to see

Thanks for the video, even with the issue you mention I think Vero is a better platform for photographers than IG. Hopefully they will figure a way to resolve this issue in a minimally invasive way so that it doesn't prevent legitimate fine art from being posted. It's a very touchy subject and one that the internet has been trying to deal with as long as it has existed.
I just started on there. I do amateur photos and video of Classic cars mostly here on youtube. I have explored much on there. I never liked the vertical and phone exclusivity of Instagram.
I joined it last week, saw peter McKinnon and some other RUclipsrs speak on it, it never even occured to me to search for such, hope it gets rectified soon
Thank you for the insight on this app. I will be happy to check it out since Instagram is dead for photography. I've always used it solely for photography, not even selfies etc. All I cared about was good pictures. I always had decent amount of likes on my photos but lately I've noticed my recent photos had very few likes. I didn't understand since I've uploaded some really good pictures. Looks like people are not using hashtags for pictures anymore. It's all about the reels which I have no interest in.

No Ads. No subsciption. How is Vero making money to survive/evolve? After 5 years still no desktop "app" (in my case it's a big problem for my workflow). I hope it evolves and maybe I'll create an account but I'm not putting much effort into it, yet. Good video. Thank you.

Users need to post reviews at Apple or Google wherever they got the app from stating this so they add a filter at least. Tumbler had this in the beginning too.
The presence of pornography isn't a major issue for me. There's pornography on Flickr, too, but I rarely see any of it because I don't go looking for it. My problem with Vero is that I dislike mobile phones, I generally do everything on my computer, and the Vero Windows app doesn't yet offer full functionality. I've registered with Vero, but probably won't start using it until the Windows app matures.

Thanks for the heads up. I had signed up for the app afew weeks ago and looked around for some people that I know. I did not really check the site out.
I’m on VERO and Twitter and Insta, but I’ve been postin to VERO and Twitter more and less to Insta. Facebook posts a copy of my Insta posts automatically. I focus on photography searches on VERO and have yet to see questionable photos. It seems to me that all the platforms are similar and the trouble with Social Media is you have to be social. Which takes time away from photography. One last point. On VERO I only post black and white photos. They are my favorite and the work I enjoy the most. So I’ve made VERO for my own satisfaction and to share the story behind my photos.
Using a certain 3 letter word, contents of an explicit nature can be discovered on Vero. Plus there appears a lot of accounts set up with this purpose that have no profile pictures
@@livesongs82 I corrected my comment that had a typo. The video creators mentioned a 3 letter word. I test it on my Vero account and I was also surprised by the results

Thank you for your honesty ❤ I also wish you could have done a bit more in-depth compensation and I feel everyone is painting Vero to be better but the in love feeling disappeared quite quickly for me. Vero is nice but not so nice 😉 plus Instagram was meant for everyone, but photographers very quickly thought it were their app, which is not correct. Plus no one is talking about the abuse the users have done over the years to Instagram..... Everything is Instagram's fault but the user have been a big part of why it is the way it is 😉
You are very welcome… I know what you mean in depth. Unfortunately I’ve been on it for only 3 days and I quickly lost interest due those mentioned issues. I honestly don’t think it is worth it to be there… not yet…they also want to charge subscription yearly fees…
@@ZdenkaDarula I am not sure I am against a fee. Being free seems to be at the root of many issues on social media. They have become platforms to promote outrage so the platform can get more views and that doesn't help anyone. It just keeps so many in a constant state of anger. If there were fees the incentives for the platform would change. Of course, it is impossible to know how things will turn out as there is such an incentive to just crank up views regardless of the harm it does. I would love to see a company reduce the harm and keep as much of the good aspects of social media, but I am afraid that won't be possible without changing the users something.
Great video Zdenka. I got a vero account last week but not really had time to look around properly. Back about 15 years ago Flickr was a great place to be. Then they went crazy with trying to find ways to monetize it, and it all went wrong. I very rarely post there now, even though I have 1000's of shots online and started a load of groups, but the place lost its magic years ago.
I had stopped using Instagram for exactly the reasons you highlighted. I was looking for something else and had Heard of this new platform but still not got round to opening an account.... So thx for bringing that problem you mentioned and the lack of control to block it..... I will stick with my old school ways to show my work. We stopped using Flickr also...... It's a total shame these platforms and the companies associated with them have only one goal! Money, whatever it takes to make money. Thanks for the informative videos.... Cheers
As a survivor is it critical for my MH that I have a sensitive content filter. Also I really dislike seeing photos of kids, of whatever kind tbh - keep them for your family album at home. I definitely will not be getting this app until they sort this. Thank you very much for highlighting this, it will protect me & others from harm 👏
It's so strange seeing that so many are talking about Vero only now after so many years after it first became popular for a moment and then vanished. (I wonder if it got mentioned in some viral tiktok, since that's where this sort of virality starts from nowadays. Which would be ironic since Tiktok's format is what is making people want to move away from Instagram. Or maybe Instagram has simply finally reached the point where many people have had enough and want to look elsewhere)
I am trying out Glass Photography rn. It's subscription-based, but it blows Vero out of the water as far as how clean and simple it is. It's just pure photography atm.
After I installed Vero on my Windows computer, I have a problem that my computer freezes and needs to be restarted. The Windows app for Vero is very buggy and has most likely given me a problem that I can't find a solution to.🤔
Isn't this a problem with pretty much every social media app out there? I feel like anyone looking for such photos is going to find them, whether on Vero or elsewhere. I have been using Vero for a bit and have never come across an inappropriate picture and didn't even realize there were any on the app until I watched this video. But as a parent, I am cautious with my child having access to any social media because they all pose this exact problem unfortunately.
Very good to hear your comments on this, I just open my account today to check it out . I am a professional photographer, so I believe it is very important to put attention to all details. What I normally do, to have an idea more clear about certain social media apps, I try to look for world renown top photographers. Like Steve Mc curry, just to name one. I believe at a point if you are a photographer with certain trajectory, your reputation could be compromised in a way, if you know what I mean… . I absolutely agree… this is one of the reasons I had to tell the truth. I just cannot “sell it” when I see problems there. I don’t want to recommend something and then people talk about me that I didn’t mention all that
I love the app, but I have the same concern. Not just as paren but as professional, you do not want to be searching something in front of people and suddenly a "non appropriated content shows up" other than that I love the app

I am still using Instagram for photos. I recently joined Vero. There is definity a lot to like about Vero for photography. On the other hand you have highlighted some valid concers. It definitely needs to clean up its act. The expllict content is not appropriate and needs to be removed.

The world has changed. There are things like Only Fans and the internet can be a dangerous place. As adults we of course can avoid content we do not want to say however when it comes to children I think you are right and some changes most likely will need to be made to the app. As a photographer I agree Instagram has gone down the tube I will definitely be checking out this app and seeing what it's all about.

Interesting take, I actually signed up last week after seeing so many friends and photographers buzzing about it. I didn't know this kind of content existed on there but I also wasn't looking for it... I think having "artistic" material in that realm but not the other type would be VERY difficult because who decides and where would the manpower be to enforce it. Another interesting note, I think videos like yours will actually make people aware it's there and likely many will seek it out... I totally believe a way to filter content so that's not seen by your kids or even yourself if you don't want to see it come up in searches is totally a valid point. On the other hand, I'd say most minors already have seen so much content like that it's just part of our society now. Many children understand the tech FAR more than their parents so it can be difficult unless you want to really learn how to restrict this to the degree of not letting them hang out with friends (who will likely show them on their phones). But that's a whole other conversation, having open communication with your children is imho the most important factor of all, you can never shield them totally but if they come to you and trust you a lot of this isn't a problem. Sadly this seems to happen with lots of social media as well.. I never came across any social media, which would require my ID. I simply wouldn’t give it to them.
This is highly blown out of proportion. On every platform there will be people that will be inappropriate with let's just say non-conservative content that obviously wouldn't be for everyone. Nothing wrong with erotic stuff but like I said, it isn't for everyone. Just click off of content you don't like. It most likely will change. It's a Russian developed app so it's not as restrictive conservatively as typical American apps. At the end of it all I do appreciate your honesty. Keep it up.
On that same note, insta allows that even though they claim that it’s against terms. Twitter outright allows it but not as hardcore as insta. And years ago, Twitter bought the now defunct Vine which was notorious for that, especially the underage variety, which would regularly make it to the top of the popular page. They’re all the same.
I appreciate your honesty! I also saw there was no censorship on more explicit photos,and I happened upon photos that were under the hashtag photography,so that is extremely innocent. The creators of VERO need to get ahead of this.
Wow. Thanks for the heads up. My kids are now young adults, so I have less to worry about than you. Still, I find this a bit unsettling. I hate the notion that such a great platform could potentially host such a dark underbelly. There are more than enough p@rn sites in the world. I'm a bit disappointed that the developers either didn't think this through clearly enough or are ignoring it. This is a very informative review. Thank you so much. Also, Zdenka, I disagree when people say IG is dead for photographers, I follow a few accounts, some photographers some not and they post photos only and their engagement is way higher than many accounts with video. People that were already following you still want to see the work you do and other people will still find your photography work. Also, many photographers would use the "slides" to post more photos, this now can be used as a video and have the same effect. I still like Instagram and I have been lucky to attract only what resonates with me. ☺
@@ZdenkaDarula Also, any Social Media that we keep our communication open, it's open to inappropriate messaging. I just got a message here from someone impersonating you asking me to text them on Telegram, I've reported it. The filtering is constant.
They should make a separat category for that with an 18+ filter on it. And then it goes too far - ban it. But for me - i will try Vero because i am searching a new plattform and i think i found it with Vero😊👍
Thank you very very much for this - I did not know some of the aspects of this app and frankly I am concerned for my kids. Eventually it has to generate revenue and will end up like the others. Also, what is your view on ViewBug and Plates (also for photographers to show case their work....etc)
Opened an account and didn't even think about this. I don't have children so not worried about them seeing inappropriate things, but it really gives me pause as well. We don't really want a mainstream platform that can be used to further objectify woman or make woman / young girls feel bad about themselves. Caution is warranted.
Sadly it could start the same thing like on Instagram… highly inappropriate DMs from certain individuals who are after this stuff. Even if you wear nothing revealing they still contact you.., the should be cleaned up before it starts

Thanks for sharing this cautionary note about Vero Zdenka - it is very concerning and I hope they are paying attention. I’ve haven’t spent a lot of time there yet, but I'm beginning to share various pieces as a nom-professional photographer and videographer. As it happens I just uploaded a quick vlog post today and touched on this topic. For me, RUclips is still the place for my video work and yes, Flickr is still my platform for my photography. I’m @PJMixer on most platforms and a Torontonian.

thanks Zdenka for this. But, I never thought of searching for unappropriate hashtags/photos at Vero. I can understand, that you have a problem with this, but in this case, you can also blame RUclips or even the whole internet. There will always be dark sides, in every area.
RUclips doesn’t allow it and other social either… you don’t need to search for it. Lots of people commented that it also pops up under keywords such as nature and that is a problem

Thanks for the video, even with the issue you mention I think Vero is a better platform for photographers than IG. Hopefully they will figure a way to resolve this issue in a minimally invasive way so that it doesn't prevent legitimate fine art from being posted. It's a very touchy subject and one that the internet has been trying to deal with as long as it has existed.

Thank you for the insight on this app. I will be happy to check it out since Instagram is dead for photography. I've always used it solely for photography, not even selfies etc. All I cared about was good pictures. I always had decent amount of likes on my photos but lately I've noticed my recent photos had very few likes. I didn't understand since I've uploaded some really good pictures. Looks like people are not using hashtags for pictures anymore. It's all about the reels which I have no interest in.

The presence of pornography isn't a major issue for me. There's pornography on Flickr, too, but I rarely see any of it because I don't go looking for it. My problem with Vero is that I dislike mobile phones, I generally do everything on my computer, and the Vero Windows app doesn't yet offer full functionality. I've registered with Vero, but probably won't start using it until the Windows app matures.
Yes I agree that the better version on desktop Has not been finished since they actually made it and it’s been now seven years they’re online

I’m on VERO and Twitter and Insta, but I’ve been postin to VERO and Twitter more and less to Insta. Facebook posts a copy of my Insta posts automatically. I focus on photography searches on VERO and have yet to see questionable photos. It seems to me that all the platforms are similar and the trouble with Social Media is you have to be social. Which takes time away from photography.
One last point. On VERO I only post black and white photos. They are my favorite and the work I enjoy the most. So I’ve made VERO for my own satisfaction and to share the story behind my photos.
Using a certain 3 letter word, contents of an explicit nature can be discovered on Vero. Plus there appears a lot of accounts set up with this purpose that have no profile pictures

Thank you for your honesty ❤ I also wish you could have done a bit more in-depth compensation and I feel everyone is painting Vero to be better but the in love feeling disappeared quite quickly for me. Vero is nice but not so nice 😉 plus Instagram was meant for everyone, but photographers very quickly thought it were their app, which is not correct. Plus no one is talking about the abuse the users have done over the years to Instagram..... Everything is Instagram's fault but the user have been a big part of why it is the way it is 😉

@@ZdenkaDarula I am not sure I am against a fee. Being free seems to be at the root of many issues on social media. They have become platforms to promote outrage so the platform can get more views and that doesn't help anyone. It just keeps so many in a constant state of anger. If there were fees the incentives for the platform would change.
Of course, it is impossible to know how things will turn out as there is such an incentive to just crank up views regardless of the harm it does.
I would love to see a company reduce the harm and keep as much of the good aspects of social media, but I am afraid that won't be possible without changing the users something.
Great video Zdenka. I got a vero account last week but not really had time to look around properly.
Back about 15 years ago Flickr was a great place to be. Then they went crazy with trying to find ways to monetize it, and it all went wrong. I very rarely post there now, even though I have 1000's of shots online and started a load of groups, but the place lost its magic years ago.

I had stopped using Instagram for exactly the reasons you highlighted. I was looking for something else and had Heard of this new platform but still not got round to opening an account.... So thx for bringing that problem you mentioned and the lack of control to block it.....
I will stick with my old school ways to show my work. We stopped using Flickr also......
It's a total shame these platforms and the companies associated with them have only one goal! Money, whatever it takes to make money.

As a survivor is it critical for my MH that I have a sensitive content filter. Also I really dislike seeing photos of kids, of whatever kind tbh - keep them for your family album at home. It's so strange seeing that so many are talking about Vero only now after so many years after it first became popular for a moment and then vanished.
(I wonder if it got mentioned in some viral tiktok, since that's where this sort of virality starts from nowadays. Which would be ironic since Tiktok's format is what is making people want to move away from Instagram. Or maybe Instagram has simply finally reached the point where many people have had enough and want to look elsewhere)

Isn't this a problem with pretty much every social media app out there? I feel like anyone looking for such photos is going to find them, whether on Vero or elsewhere. I have been using Vero for a bit and have never come across an inappropriate picture and didn't even realize there were any on the app until I watched this video. But as a parent, I am cautious with my child having access to any social media because they all pose this exact problem unfortunately.

What I normally do, to have an idea more clear about certain social media apps, I try to look for world renown top photographers. Like Steve Mc curry, just to name one. I believe at a point if you are a photographer with certain trajectory, your reputation could be compromised in a way, if you know what I mean… . I am still using Instagram for photos. I recently joined Vero. There is definity a lot to like about Vero for photography. On the other hand you have highlighted some valid concers. It definitely needs to clean up its act. The expllict content is not appropriate and needs to be removed.

The world has changed. There are things like Only Fans and the internet can be a dangerous place. As adults we of course can avoid content we do not want to say however when it comes to children I think you are right and some changes most likely will need to be made to the app. As a photographer I agree Instagram has gone down the tube I will definitely be checking out this app and seeing what it's all about.

Interesting take, I actually signed up last week after seeing so many friends and photographers buzzing about it. I didn't know this kind of content existed on there but I also wasn't looking for it... I think having "artistic" material in that realm but not the other type would be VERY difficult because who decides and where would the manpower be to enforce it. Another interesting note, I think videos like yours will actually make people aware it's there and likely many will seek it out... I totally believe a way to filter content so that's not seen by your kids or even yourself if you don't want to see it come up in searches is totally a valid point. On the other hand, I'd say most minors already have seen so much content like that it's just part of our society now. Many children understand the tech FAR more than their parents so it can be difficult unless you want to really learn how to restrict this to the degree of not letting them hang out with friends (who will likely show them on their phones). But that's a whole other conversation, having open communication with your children is imho the most important factor of all, you can never shield them totally but if they come to you and trust you a lot of this isn't a problem. Well Crap. Thanks for this video. I just had my photography students download it and try it out. Hmmmm....no how to get them to delete it? Thanks for letting me know about this. Also, do you trust an app that in order to be verified they need to see your Drivers License? Thoughts?
Sadly this seems to happen with lots of social media as well.. I never came across any social media, which would require my ID. I simply wouldn’t give it to them.
Keep in mind, most platforms have bail in policies much like the banks, where if in financial trouble your content becomes there's.

This is highly blown out of proportion. On every platform there will be people that will be inappropriate with let's just say non-conservative content that obviously wouldn't be for everyone. Nothing wrong with erotic stuff but like I said, it isn't for everyone. Just click off of content you don't like. It most likely will change. It's a Russian developed app so it's not as restrictive conservatively as typical American apps. At the end of it all I do appreciate your honesty. Keep it up.

On that same note, insta allows that even though they claim that it’s against terms. Twitter outright allows it but not as hardcore as insta. And years ago, Twitter bought the now defunct Vine which was notorious for that, especially the underage variety, which would regularly make it to the top of the popular page. They’re all the same.
It is just scary that other RUclipsrs promote it so heavily
I appreciate your honesty! I also saw there was no censorship on more explicit photos,and I happened upon photos that were under the hashtag photography,so that is extremely innocent. The creators of VERO need to get ahead of this.

Wow. Thanks for the heads up. My kids are now young adults, so I have less to worry about than you. Still, I find this a bit unsettling. I hate the notion that such a great platform could potentially host such a dark underbelly. There are more than enough p@rn sites in the world. I'm a bit disappointed that the developers either didn't think this through clearly enough or are ignoring it. I'm brand new on the app, but already thoroughly enjoying it and starting to connect with other photographers. I hope this gets addressed.

This is a very informative review. Thank you so much. Also, Zdenka, I disagree when people say IG is dead for photographers, I follow a few accounts, some photographers some not and they post photos only and their engagement is way higher than many accounts with video. People that were already following you still want to see the work you do and other people will still find your photography work. Also, many photographers would use the "slides" to post more photos, this now can be used as a video and have the same effect. I still like Instagram and I have been lucky to attract only what resonates with me. ☺

@@ZdenkaDarula Also, any Social Media that we keep our communication open, it's open to inappropriate messaging. I just got a message here from someone impersonating you asking me to text them on Telegram, I've reported it. The filtering is constant.

Opened an account and didn't even think about this. I don't have children so not worried about them seeing inappropriate things, but it really gives me pause as well. We don't really want a mainstream platform that can be used to further objectify woman or make woman / young girls feel bad about themselves. Caution is warranted.
Sadly it could start the same thing like on Instagram… highly inappropriate DMs from certain individuals who are after this stuff. Even if you wear nothing revealing they still contact you.., the should be cleaned up before it starts

I’ve haven’t spent a lot of time there yet, but I'm beginning to share various pieces as a nom-professional photographer and videographer. As it happens I just uploaded a quick vlog post today and touched on this topic. For me, RUclips is still the place for my video work and yes, Flickr is still my platform for my photography. I’m @PJMixer on most platforms and a Torontonian.

RUclips doesn’t allow it and other social either… you don’t need to search for it. Lots of people commented that it also pops up under keywords such as nature and that is a problem
