    I've had two showers like this and they're definitely a lifesaver. Think about spray painting the container black and leaving it in the Sun to heat up. It works a treat when the weather is good!

      Erin Govoni where do they have the 5 gal solar showers?

    • @eringovoni5198
      @eringovoni5198 7 лет назад +2

      Walmart, Amazon, any sport supply store. Very common

    • @clydealspaugh8701
      @clydealspaugh8701 7 лет назад +18

      There are drawbacks to those 5 gallon solar showers though.
      First they are gravity fed so you have to hang them up (higher than the user's height) to use them.
      Second 5 gallons of water is around 45 pounds in weight.
      Third, most campers can shower in 1 to 1.5 gallons of water so they don't need 5 gallons.
      Add in the time required to heat 5 gallons of water and it might not be the best option for some.
      I guess it all depends on your needs and living situation. Still, I'd like to see someone come up with an easy way to pressurize those solar showers. That would make them more practical for a variety of applications.
      (Personally, I have the 2.5 gallon solar shower that I use when I go camping. If I run out of hot water, which almost never happens, I simply rinse with cold water. Cold water rinses aren't my favorite, but the do make sure you are awake-LOL.)

    I just did the same portable shower from another RUclips and it works awesome. I paid about the same price in CDN dollars for it(38USD/$50CDN. The only two things I wanted to add are. Put plumbers tape on the end of the barbed brass fitting that you screw into the other brass fitting, it will prevent leaks. Also the barbed brass fitting that you pushed into hose, add 1/4" clamp on it so it won't leak. Best portable shower ever.
    PS. Paint it black and leave it in the sun so you'll always have warm water when showering.

    Made something like this years ago using a hand pumped water fire extinguisher. I agree with you it makes long camp outs, or car camping much more comfortable. Your 2 gallon size is much more portable than the one I had and really all that is required. 👍

    I was brainstorming how to create a personal shower and at Home Depot went to Lawn and Garden and got Two RL Flomaster which were $7 each. Take One..Pump it 10 times with water in it only rinse yourself for 45 seconds. The Second RL Flomaster is a water and Shower gel mix. I prefer the " compare to Olay" dollar tree bottle. It's super. Items can be heated by camping stove or microwave or whatever.

    When I camped as a teen we had a portable shower that was just bought, It's was basically bag made of heavy black plastic you could fill it with water and hang it from a tree and the sun heated the water due to the black plastic. It had a sprinkler attachment on the bottom so it would just pour out on you.

    You have some great ideas for the shower set up. It works. I have slept in my SUV for many years while exploring America and living on the road. I fell into this life after being a long distance driver for years. After I stopped driving a big truck i bought an SUV and made it into n RV. I find that joining 24 hr fitness, Anytime Fitness Center, or Planet Fitness is an inexpensive place to shower and pretty much readily available. You can also park and sleep in their parking lot because they are open 24/7 for the most part. Go Ahle!

    I'm going with a 4" black PVC pipe on the top of the van, 10' long can hold up to 5 gal (I think )plus it heats during the day and you just fill it up with a hose, and use a bike pump to pump air into the tube for better pressure... but this is a great build!

    Just happened upon this. Awesome!
    When I was studying abroad, they used to shut off the hot water in the dorms after 11p, so I'd get home from clubbing and use 3 small water boilers (2 from friends), to supplement the frigid cold shower. This reminds me of that...except I was literally dropping a bucket of water over of my head! You got me beat!

    Also, if you dont want to or cant heat water by fire, you can rough sand the tank with 80 grit sand paper and paint it black with textured paint and leave it in the sun all day to warm it up. I've been using mine for 4+ years. Pretty good for washing dogs too!

    The 2-gallon pressurized sprayer will be lighter than the 5-gallon bag you then have to find a place to hang. I used my sprayer at a certain desert camping trip at the end of August.
    Another poster mentioned painting it black to absorb sunlight, but mine is made of black plastic, hence, no need for paint.

    We are up and coming bloggers and I was wondering if I can ask a few questions.
    1. is this your first attempt at a blog?
    2. did you write the content you are talking about? or is it off the top of your head?
    3. how many takes do you typically do in a video like this?
    4. was your first blog perfectly the way you wanted it? or was there a bunch of problems that you fixed over time?
    We are having first blogger jitters and are afraid to post if our content is not great. Should we just post and learn or wait until the content is correct? your opinion will mean a lot to us.

    I bought a Hot Jugz Portable Shower about 6 years ago for $50 (they are $70 now) it is pretty much the same as Hobo's except it comes with a pressure release valve and a neoprene cover. The water pressure is superior to any hang up gravity shower bag.

    My local Home Depot, and I think all of them, isn't restocking the Roundup 2Gal sprayer anymore, and the HDX didn't get as good a review, so got the Deck & Home 2Gal sprayer you can see in your video on the shelf at Home Depot. The hose and the sprayer look identical to the RoundUp, as do most of the brands, so who knows.. I'm using the built in sprayer that comes with it and it's not bad. I little less water flow, but lasts much longer with just 2 gallons. Anyway, thanks for your fun video. My GF and I just love you ;)

    I just bought an $8 'solar' (literally just because it's a black bag so it heats up easy... but I live in the subtropics so I only need a warm shower in winter) camp shower from kmart. As long as you have a place to hang it up, it works well. This looks good too but I wouldn't like having to hold something while showering. You'd save water though, I suppose.

    Thanks for the detailed directions on installing the nozzle to the hose. I did it wrong even reading the directions, and now see where I went wrong. Mine came with both a rubber and plastic washer, both of which I installed wrong and also the directions are misleading about where to install the c clip. YOU installed it correctly.

    unless it's cold then it's gyms, truck stops, or C/B/B+ showers. FYI you can just put a 12V water pump in to any container of water..

    you have me so excited about this van life! this is perfect for when i can't get to a gym, like if i'm not in the city and am on the road. i think i'll need more than one of those weed sprayers however.

    I've seen a lot of van conversion videos where they install these very elaborate plumbing systems that require electricity ... and I'm always saying to myself, "why don't they just use a pump sprayer?" Well, boom, you did it. Good job!

    You should buy a 12 V waterboiler and add the heating element to the shower. :)

    2 gallons is the way to go. Enough for a shower and still weighs 16 lbs. I've looked at many systems on RUclips and this is the bang for the buck.

    • @HoboAhle
      @HoboAhle  7 лет назад +1

      I agree, 2 gallons is way more than enough :) Plus, I love the idea of being able to see how much water it actually takes me to get a good shower in. Makes me wonder how much water I'm saving overall versus showering in an apartment
