2 Months later on her Instagram: "A few months ago I met someone while traveling and it changed the journey for me. It opened up a new road, a road to explore with someone else."
Almost all of what she said really hit home - seeing what others are doing, recognizing it’s not for you and not wanting to wait to live the life you want. I’m in my early 30s and I’m just starting to figure out what it is that I really want. I’ve taken quite a few cross country road trips, a couple solo. I miss being on the road and after researching van conversions I know it can be done pragmatically. Thinkin’ this lifestyle is calling my name!!
When I divorced, I took a six month criss-cross of the U. S. with my german Shepherd in a Honda CRV. I'm now planning a two year journey following craft shows to stay financed. Once I've had enough, I can live in my (likely bus) conversion while I build my final home, where I'll retire. I still have my trusted companion, but I'm not sure he'll make that trip, his health is starting to fail. He was the best travel companion ever, perfect company, not one complaint out of him and I was never afraid with him along. I will always have at least one dog.
Arh worse thing about having dogs is the short lifespan.. glad you’ve had good travels with your dog.. I live in a Hyundai trajet with my two dogs... best company ever.. take care ❤️😁
If you do your research you can find easy temporary jobs that’s pay a lot of money. I know a lot of people that live life’s like this and for a couple months they do like seasonal farming and make a lot of money then travel for months to a year without having to worry about money.
You're a very wise young lady! You answered my biggest concerns about traveling alone. I'm a 47 year old widow and tired of trying to get along with people who don't deserve my time. I want to travel, but don't like to fly. I know people all over the US!
There's a lot of salt about her having money and a family that supports her...THAT'S GREAT, FORTUNATE THING. She's not on here swearing you can do it free or cheap. She had a "real" job and is able to do her thing. Be happy for her instead of looking for insane, bitter reasons to hate.
Having everything handed to you doesn't help people grow. it has nothing to with hate, but she's not someone I'm going to look up to either. And having the solar panel on the back is a thief magnet. She should put the box on the back and the solar panel on the top. The box is at least lockable.
No one said anything about haters, you missed the point completely in your haste to dump on me for having an opinion, and your energy is sure ugly. People are oohing and ahing over her, my only point is, so? She's had everything handed to her. Expensive van paid for by mommy and daddy. Born good looking, she's had to overcome SO much to get to that point. I don't see a lot to admire in someone who hasn't earned anything in life on their own,, what does that have to do with hate? I'ts not about hate, it's a reality check for all these people who are saying idiotic stuff like "she's finding her path" She's not finding anything but an easy street paved by parents money. Go out and get a job, and earn the money to buy that van and support a nomad lifestyle, THAT would be something to admire.
you're not hearing what I'm saying, so I'll spell it out for you. I don't give a flying fk what you think of ME. I offered an opinion, if you don't like it, that's your problem. This video isn't about ME. It's also not about YOU and your moronic attack on someone whose opinion differs from yours. This may come as a shock, but I didn't ask for your opinion about me. So stick to the video as your topic, and don't attack other people posting in here. Now as they say, don't go away mad, just go away.
Sadly not many people make it to tell you how unsafe van life is. I did it for 40 days and will never, ever do it. It's way too dangerous out there and I was well armed.
In 1994 I bought a 1982 VW Westfalia Camper with two friends from a family near Paoli, Pensylvania. She had 12000 miles on the clock and the plastic was still on the stove, the fridge and sink had only been lightly used. We spent the next 3 months travelling 14000 miles across 27 States... Her name was Penny! Thank you for making this... I love that you travel with your pup!
Thank you. I went solo when I was in my 50s about 20 years ago and it was the most exotic exciting thing. Only one time did I not feel safe and that was poor planning. Don't stay in jobs you think are temp but you hate. Ten years later you will still hate the job!!
Sometimes we stumble across some people on RUclips and watch a few minutes of their video and by the end we are hoping so many great things for their future cause they're just so nice. This girl has such a good energy! Be happy, Alex!
You do realise that it's just an outtake of her life, right? She's basically homeless, living in her van and going from place to place. Just because she's young and pretty and doesn't sound downtrodden doesn't mean she doesn't have to deal with tough reality of getting around not knowing how safe it is or what new day would bring her.
So true this was one of the van uploads that pushed me to be brave and get a little camper car and travel with my two dogs.. ... I literally watched this years ago and I sometimes watch this again.. your right her vibes amazing 👌✌️✌️ i
@@coolcat3918 I do realise all of those things you just said hahaha and even if we live in houses we still have problems. I was just referring to her energy, the way she speaks, she seems happy. If she is not, we'll never know, man. I wasn't even talking about her looks
Because all these are models or wannabees for reality tv and these vids may mostly be produced ... probably Eurpoean producers, They pay these people to do all this stuff. Some may actually be in the van and traveling around capturing raw footage, upload and send to producers who edit and add the CHILL Sirius channel 53 music in and then download to RUclips... Producers make moneyif popular.. if not, they drop you like a rock. $$$$$$
I love watching you with your beautiful dog. I lost my GS four years ago and am still grieving. Enjoy him while you can. They are great companions, as you know.
I have lived in my van for 6 years. kinda got forced into it when reception hit. I totally understand what it's like. it's not all fun and games but at least I'm not on the street. I also work out of mine which it's self has been a big task. but to all those people who live in houses who frown on people like van dweller i say engoy the prisons of staying in one place. I hope this girl continues to enjoys the freedoms that van can give.
So my wife is a truck driver and Ive learned a lot of safety tips with her being that her second home is a truck .... QUICK TIP Take the seat belt and wrap it around the door handle (if there’s one ) it will prevent anyone trying to pry open the door . 💕

@@Erikjoelalexander Sorry I didn't mean to disturb you :) actually yes I did... that is the point -.- there are plenty of bad people out there, trust me I grew up with them, It's best to always be cautious, especially for girls otherwise one night they might find themselves in a nightmarish situation
I've noticed that the comment section of people traveling and living out of their rigs is extremely positive. I love the aura of conversations that the listeners are having. It's a rare thing to see on RUclips, and gives me the confidence to pursue this lifestyle.
It's because those who didn't make it are not around to tell you their side. This is another glamorization. I guarantee you that if you rent one of these rigs for 2 week you will find out what I mean. I did it for 40 days and nearly died.
I appreciate your honesty and reassurance that women can life the Vanlife alone n harmoniously. We can be safe n secure on the road alone. I took a roadtrip alone to Florida from Michigan; It was the most awesome experience I've ever had. As being a loner; I discovered how a lot of my strengths and weaknesses. I had a lot of freedom and self-determination. I had no one to hold me back from doing exactly what I wanted/needed to do with myself by myself and for myself. I cherish my "Me Time". Thank you for sharing your life of freedom. 😊
Hi Dylan. Please tell Alex that she will want a bungycord to fix the tent sticking out underneath the pop top roof when it's closed; tie the cord around the tent about halfway between the van and the rooftop, it needs to be tight enough for the tent to be pulled in when lowering the top. This is a great help on my van Best regards Henrik from Denmark
This is so inspiring to me. I've always wanted to live off a van for a year after high school, but I can already see my parents and grandma especially, telling me to not go through that path and study right away.
Grace Heck, you could make college cheaper for you, by doing the van life there. Then, as soon as break hits, you're already packed and gone on the road. :)
I LOVE this :)) I too am a solo female van dweller w my doggie living an AMAZING life, THRIVING and doing everything everyone else does aaaand i don't have to pay rent! also being able to sleep in an urban neighborhood one night and then wake up on a 7,000 ft cliff above the grand canyon in your own cozy bed a few days later is ummm, heaven. to sleep at the beach fall asleep to waves crashing and to wake up in the same spot watching the sunrise while sipping on a steaming cup of coffee in your pajamas, i mean, how is the whole world not doing this? i understand the fear and i also understand the nature of limiting belief structure The loneliness bit is interesting, for me and where i am, I don't ever feel that way. I believe you could be lonely if you lived in a van or a non moving home. it depends on where you are in your mind and how you choose to perceive your life. Are you lonely or are you solidly thriving in your aloneness? i still hang out with my friends, go to work and do everything the same except that when i go home its to my moveable home not to one thats stuck in one place. id go nuts if i stayed in one place. Nomad blood is in a select few of us and this is a way that you see it expressed. #waterpeople thank you for this video. beautifully done brother and thank you for your story sister
Zan Tastic awesome! I did a solo 3 month camper van trip with my pup last fall. Amazing, highs and lows.. Question - what do you do with your dog during the hot and cold months while you work? I live in Canada where it gets 4 extreme seasons.. And not willing to give up my dog to live the van life full time..
I didn't even think about solo camping until last month. I just put a deposit down on a pop up topper for my Nissan Frontier. I have a red/black 6 yr old GSD who looks exactly like Talkeetna. Hope to be departing from my hometown of Seattle shortly for new adventures. Thank you for the video
@@nightknight2820 Check her ins listed in the description, she got a bf/husband, and moved to a ram promaster, also started her camper van conversion company.
Awesome video! One tip from wild camping through Europe - for extra security, use a set of ratchet straps between your front door handles while parked. Then at least if someone really wants in, they have to crawl through the presumably broken glass window and you can sleep even better at night. However... I didn't have a German Shepherd with me!
I think this is a lovely lifestyle young lady. It brings me joy imagining that you might still be out there exploring and enjoying the world. God bless you and stay safe.☺️
Go Girl! Me & a friend travelled all through Mexico for 2 winters - 6 months each time - thats all the time you are allowed unless you get the permanent visa. We had a 2000 Mazda MPV: I removed both the middle & back row of seats, put down a plywood floor with a 12" high bench (20" wide) with 4" foam mattress & under the bench stored our clothing in gym bags & cook gear in a tote. In the floor I jigsawed a a hatch (*the MPV has a well to store the 3rd row seat) which we stored a screened tent, cook stoves, fuel, hatchet, etc. My friend slept on a self-inflating mattress on the floor & at the end of her bed (she is short) we kept a toilet for night use. We could lay on our beds & using dollar store clip-on lites read til we fell asleep. If we stayed more than a couple of nights, we put up the screened shelter for cooking, reading, etc. Otherwise we sat on the camp chairs (which laid on our beds during daytime travel) to eat, read, chat, relax. At the time we did this I was 58 (&disabled) while my friend was 65. We slept beside a crater lake, in horse fields, by the beach & in campgrounds - had a blast, memories you cannot replicate, met & saw so much - it blows your mind to see how the rest of Norte America lives. You don't have to be young, or fit- you have to want to live. Try it - you won't regret it....
I am a solo OTR truck driver full time on the road 355 days a year, and even though I have traveled to and seen so many places across the nation; I want more out of it all. I want to be able to stop and enjoy my surroundings instead of glancing at it so I can get my load in on time. I want to explore. I want to experience. Sure saying I been here or there is nice, but all I can ever tell people about is how the traffic or weather is. I want to be able to have something else to tell. I want for my day to day to actually be interesting, and not just pick up here then deliver here.
What a beautiful video. Thank you. I am almost 70 and will be traveling across the whole country by myself in a Dodge Caravan with a dog and 3 cats. They travel well. I will look thru your videos to see suggestions for where to stay at night safely. It used to be one could stay in a Walmart or Target parking lot but I guess that's no longer an option. I appreciate your honesty and resourcefulness :-) Happy travels to you

Mr. J If you really want a furry pet, get an allergy shot specifically for pet allergies. Otherwise, stick to something smaller and more manageable. A lizard, turtle, or something along those lines. Just make sure to do your research before ever getting any kind of animal so that you can make sure their needs are properly met.
To the wonderful lassie traveling the road, I just wish to say I truly appreciated your wisdom upon being alone and what it means from a universal and living perspective. This gave me peace while taking my first steps into nomadic life. Keep truckin ✌

This was the first video I watched when thinking of converting to a van and It inspired me to do the same! I've honestly lost a little hope since then because of this whole pandemic but as soon as it's over I'll be buying a van just you see!
If this was an affordable option I'd jump into it feet first. Just me and my dogs, able to just go and explore , document our adventures and have nothing really binding me down to one place. Sounds so so amazing.
Meg Ward I like the romantic idea of being free on the open road with no one to answer to but ultimately I think I might find it unstimulating (is that a word) I have lived in London my whole life and think I may be institutionalised 😔

***** IKR. This girl has to keep the van in good conditions, has a dog and obviously she isn't starving to death. It´s easy to be a 'braveheart' when money is not an issue
GDT - Ω96 As a girl, I personally would not have the courage to constantly be on the road and sleep everyday in unknown places, no matter how much money i would have in my pocket. It is a safety thing.
I have a Vanagon Westy now and have owned two others. Pull the canvas in as you lower the poptop. This keeps it in the van. If it gets poked back in like you are doing it now, after it’s lowered, it will still get wet during weather. It takes a minute longer, but the canvas is then inside the rig, not just stuffed in from the outside. I’ve never had my canvas get wet doing it this way in 100s of nites out. Also, if it gets wet while the top is popped, be sure and dry it out, by popping th top when the weather clears, asa you can and it will last for decades.
I want to do this one day in the future when I don't have to support my parents anymore. It will be sad and awful when that happens but I will get to travel the country. Hopefully I will have a partner who would do it with me but if not thats fine too.
So proud of you young lady. Keep living your best life. I love watching all these van conversions, the traveling n the simple life. Wished I could have done this at some point in my life. Good luck.
Furthermore, I could see this being a way to get homeless people (Veterans, you name it) off of the streets and I think that somehow some of us folks would do our best to help. I met a lady whose cabin got robbed an burned down out in Big Lake, AK. She lives on the streets in a tent somewhere on purpose, I did what I could do at the time not much. She got completely overwhelmed it happened quick, you just never know what can happen next. I am not saying take her into our home, but. Yeah there are shelters but there are never enough. And there are problems that come with shelters also. My better half works @ a low security women's prison as an admin, I think maybe some folks in bad situations could do good work there, they already do sell arts & crafts. And yes we purchase a lot of it, upon their release all those donations go back to the women who have turned their lives around. Small miracles happen every day, just needs to be a lot more of them. Sorry for my rant, but yeah.. it's just life and caring I guess.
Women been doing this for 40 years, maybe longer. Great to see you are enjoying Life for what it is, the simple things, the nature. You'd like it here is Australia. Then again, NZ is similar.
Agreed!!! I used to live with my dog in the first floor during covid wfh... after i shifted the dog to the ground floor with my family, i could not live alone in the first floor and had to come and stay in the ground floor!!
that's realllllyyyy cool and it's one of the things I'd like to do, but I feel like no one talks about the economic part of it... Like do they work a little? I mean, the gas has to be paid... and food... It just really interests me.
Mégane Gariépy most people have jobs they can do on the road, bloggers photographers or web designers for example, some have a more simple jobs such as manual laborers or street performers, some lucky ones make money with RUclips and ads, a few spend all their saved up money and will run out at some point.
You can also: hold a sign asking for gas and carry a gas jug with you, learn an instrument and busk on the street, do temporary summer or winter jobs like working at a ski resort in winter or a tourist national park in summer. Those jobs are fairly easy to be hired with, low paying but without rent, theres not much to pay for. Plus the people there are really fun and you get to live where people pay lots of money to visit
I was on a job for 10y waiting for retirement and pension and now I got them all. I have been alone and single for 6months but I am wanting to buy a van and start a life like that to visit the beautiful west coast in a van life style. I miss being on the road and after researching van conversions I know it can be done pragmatically. Thinkin’ this lifestyle is calling my name!!
So where's your life at now? I hope you made the changes for yourself, Life's too short 🇮🇪
When I divorced I had to work 16hour days 6 days a week for 17 years to pay the h0e off!
Arh worse thing about having dogs is the short lifespan.. glad you’ve had good travels with your dog.. I live in a Hyundai trajet with my two dogs... best company ever.. take care ❤️😁
I pray Allah brings you safety and gives your dog great health to spend a lot more time with you. Ameen.
Can i come with?

BUT WHERE DO PEOPLE GET THE MONEY to do all of this?? When they take time after college to "get to know themselves"
Well you're not paying rent or a mortgage so there's all ur money right there. You just gotta save before lol
rich parents
If you do your research you can find easy temporary jobs that’s pay a lot of money. I know a lot of people that live life’s like this and for a couple months they do like seasonal farming and make a lot of money then travel for months to a year without having to worry about money.
@@makaylakuhlman6841 tnx for info
You need less money than you think to travel like this, like, you don't have to pay rent or bills, and you probably end up buying less things

I’m working a 9-5 office job and dream of this life. It’s wonderful that you’ve just been able to go do it. That’s inspiring
Yuppp❤️❤️❤️
You're a very wise young lady! You answered my biggest concerns about traveling alone. I'm a 47 year old widow and tired of trying to get along with people who don't deserve my time. I want to travel, but don't like to fly. I know people all over the US!
flanmaryj do it and share your experience on Instagram
Do it! I'm about to turn 40 and have been vanning it alone for years now. You will have an amazing time.
LOL, the video isn't about me.
If you have a family who likes you there is NO Greater thing!
I hope this inspires some of you ladies out there!
Dylan Magaster Great job with the interview and final output. Keep it up!!
Dylan Magaster where do you get a pop up tent made!? I can't find ANYONE who makes them! Please help!
Thanks :)
Paul V Her van is factory made with the top and kitchen. Sportsmobile makes pop up tops for vans though.
Awesome Dylan! =)
Dylan Magaster Hey Dylan, do you know how Alex makes money to fund the full time van life?
I love the fact she has a knife on stand by and an escape plan, you can never be too careful traveling alone. Especially as a young woman. GG
I would hope she would have a better equalizer than a knife, and know how to use it
There are too many scumbags out there
Sadly not many people make it to tell you how unsafe van life is. I did it for 40 days and will never, ever do it. It's way too dangerous out there and I was well armed.
This girl is awesome, killing it out there with herself and her dog. I hope to one day do something similar!
You want to be a girl with a dog too?
Jaime F who doesn't?
In 1994 I bought a 1982 VW Westfalia Camper with two friends from a family near Paoli, Pensylvania. She had 12000 miles on the clock and the plastic was still on the stove, the fridge and sink had only been lightly used. We spent the next 3 months travelling 14000 miles across 27 States... Her name was Penny!
Thank you for making this... I love that you travel with your pup!
Did everyone sleep in the van together?
Croaker. Yes. She was a 4 berth, so two double beds...
Cool! That sounds more attainable for me than living in a van for an extended period of time. Thanks
Thank you. I went solo when I was in my 50s about 20 years ago and it was the most exotic exciting thing. Only one time did I not feel safe and that was poor planning. Don't stay in jobs you think are temp but you hate. Ten years later you will still hate the job!!
I really love how humble and honest she is! Simple van, happy girl! I hope I am going to do the same one day!!

I think by “beautiful people” the original commenter meant good-hearted, down to earth individuals. Not physically beautiful
She's not solo, she's got a dog. The best companion one could ever want.
I have lived in my van for 6 years. kinda got forced into it when reception hit. I totally understand what it's like. it's not all fun and games but at least I'm not on the street. No woman should ever be afraid of being alone or facing solitude. This was me 30 years ago.
Anyone who is small and can't defend themselves, regardless of their gender, should be weary of danger... Telling people they shouldn't be afraid is pretty bad life advice
Nope. Stop telling women to be afraid to live their life. Bad things happen to women walking their dogs in the suburbs. Women are free get over it.

Well said
Hi Dylan. Please tell Alex that she will want a bungycord to fix the tent sticking out underneath the pop top roof when it's closed; tie the cord around the tent about halfway between the van and the rooftop, it needs to be tight enough for the tent to be pulled in when lowering the top.
This is a great help on my van
Best regards
Henrik from Denmark
This is so inspiring to me. I've always wanted to live off a van for a year after high school, but I can already see my parents and grandma especially, telling me to not go through that path and study right away.
Grace Follow the path you want not what other want you to, eventually they'll come around good luck following your dreams (:
+Spaceman Dago thank you so much for the words of encouragement 😊💕 It is greatly appreciated
Grace Heck, you could make college cheaper for you, by doing the van life there. Then, as soon as break hits, you're already packed and gone on the road. :)
I like that you said you were depressed and everything was gray, then you said you were also watching Grey's Anatomy...another gray.

I feel most people should take a gap year BEFORE college to get to know themselves rather than after college. College is expensive.
Second this! Took a gap year to save money and make sure I knew what I wanted, it’s a game changer if you use the year right

also being able to sleep in an urban neighborhood one night and then wake up on a 7,000 ft cliff above the grand canyon in your own cozy bed a few days later is ummm, heaven. to sleep at the beach fall asleep to waves crashing and to wake up in the same spot watching the sunrise while sipping on a steaming cup of coffee in your pajamas, i mean, how is the whole world not doing this?
i understand the fear and i also understand the nature of limiting belief structure
The loneliness bit is interesting, for me and where i am, I don't ever feel that way.
#waterpeople

Awesome video! One tip from wild camping through Europe - for extra security, use a set of ratchet straps between your front door handles while parked.

Cristina P Media makes the world dangerous everywhere. Be aware of surroundings, use your head, don't go to known trouble spots and you'll be fine.
