Thank you for the great video! 💚.
Few tips when comparing tastes of different powders:
    - Use a palate cleanser if trying different Matchas at the same time.
    - Whisk the matcha to froth (different in case of making koicha). Frothing the matcha affects the overall flavor and brings out its unique aroma. Some matchas will have a creamy velvety texture after whisking to froth that you won’t get in other types. The beauty of the frothy layer, the texture of the matcha after frothing it, and the details of its aroma are all parts of evaluating the quality of a powder.
    - Try the powders one more time with double or triple the amount of water. You will be surprised how different flavors would “shine” or disappear, particularly the hint of natural sweetness and the pleasant vegetal flavor of ceremonial matcha. 😊

The reason for the clumping is because you didn’t sift it, you have to sift it before you add the water.since it is a powder, it’s nature is to clump, so you have to sift it before

Hi a Japanese girl here. My grandma would make me matcha so I’ve seen how matcha should be made. In this video she barely mixed the powder and she did it in a wrong way. You should move just your hands and keep your arms steady. And mix much faster than she did until the surface is covered by bubbles. And I was surprised by the little amount of water she added!! Like why so little??? Lol and matcha should be bitter. So it didn’t make sense to me when she was like ummmm this is bitter. Yes it is because it’s matcha. Wish she had done a little bit more research on how to make matcha properly if she was gonna rate them.

I have a feeling you were paid for this review by jade leaf company ;)
Jade leaf ceremonial is a really bad matcha and you can tell by its color and lack of flavor.. My favorites are kenko and matcha konomi. I've been drinking matcha my entire life, and I think people who are just not used to tea cannot tell the difference between depth in flavor and bitterness..

I agree. Jade leaf is pretty bad. I tried the Organic Kenko and it's quite bitter, my fave is the Haru Matcha Organic. Bonus is that it's 40g vs 30g like most matcha out there.

Im a big fan of Encha also! Give Midori Springs Ceremonial Grade Gold Class a try too (link below). IMO it has a lighter flavor than Encha. Encha has a subtle earthy quality to it. Not bitter but definitely an earthy tinge.
Regardless, I love Encha Ceremonial and drink that the most.

It's nice to see several brands before and after brewing for color and texture. :) Some Matcha tea powders need to be sifted through a fine mesh strainer which breaks up the lumps. One of my favorite go-to Matchas tastes great but is very lumpy. I also whisk it into a loose paste at first with just a few drops of the water before adding the rest to make a smoother tea and it froths easier. :) Nice review!

Okay. Now I'm trying "culinary grade" of the Jade Leaf, which is much much cheaper than the cermonial grade. Here's how it tastes:
1.) Yes, I detect "some" grassy flavorness...but not overwhelming. My concentration is 2.5 grams + 6 oz water.
2.) It tastes "less concentrated" than the ceremonial grade. So I may up the powder in the future.
3.) I notice it doesn't clump as much. ( I just mix this in a small plastic bottle with a block of ice and shake it hard)
I will continue my testing. If all goes well, I will be looking at buying larger volume for even more savings of this culinary grade. Currently, my daily dose is about 2.5 gms servings 3-4 times a day and I've had no stomach issues or anything. I notice the "caffeine" hit is quite mild. It's the difference between feeling "slightly sleepy" and "just not". I'm weaning off energy drinks so that's good.

Nice review! Would love to see what you think of "Encha" and "Midori Springs" matcha ceremonial grade in a future video. For the color comparison, it would be nice to see all of the matcha powders out side-by-side on a white piece of paper.
One question - when you are whisking, are you stopping once the powder is stirred like you showed in the video or are you whisking and getting the frothy appearance?

one suggestion of something to try for those that use sugar with their matcha. try mixing the matcha powder and the sugar together well before adding liquid. I have found this actually helps avoid clumps and makes the matcha easier to mix. I also have a request I would love to use ceremonial grade but with the amount I go through in a month it would cost me over a $160 a month so I stick to culinary grade. Just bought Jade Leaf from amazon 100g for about $50. I drink 2g's at a time with 6 oz cold water just shaken in a plastic bottle with a stainless steel or glass ball. I'm a beginner with this stuff, but I don't detect much bitterness or grassy flavor. I'm trying to replace my energy drink habit with matcha. However, I want to bring down the cost but maintain the quality. Does anyone have any recommends?

Can I drink matcha powder with COLD WATER? I don’t like hot drinks.

Yes. It dissolves better with hot water. So just chill it afterwards.

Sifting the powders should eliminate lumps.

Jade Leaf is no where close to Akira's superior quality. Your water is to hot and I recommend using 1 scoop. When whisking use a W motion instead of circles. Just trying to help out.

Organic Matcha's gonna have a bit more of a bitter taste due to bugs loving that sweet taste on non organic, so they use pesticides, but you get a sweet flavor versus organic which do not use pesticides but will be bitter.

When you say "grassy-flavor" do you mean an aftertaste that is fishy or sea-weed-like? I ask because that is the flavor, or aftertaste, I experience after drinking Matcha lattes.

None of these had the froth like in the preview image. She just “mixed” them, didn’t whisk them up to the right consistency.

Some of her choices are labeled as MATCHA (DO Matcha is one of them) while others are labeled as MATCHA POWDER? I dont kno what that means? So I wonder if they are actually the same thing? I really dont know... but i'am guessing MATCHA-POWDER may be blended with something and may not be a traditional MATCHA? i also noticed that DO Matcha (which is NOT labeled a powder) is more expensive.... and she doesnt like it 6:33 :)

    • @slpowelson3418

Obvious hasn’t had some proper training. She should of put through a sieve to avoid the climbs and then whisk in the proper W or M style. Unfortunately it’s hard to learn the proper technique as there are more videos out there that do it wrong - hopefully by now she has learned the proper way. Technique and tools DEFINITELY affect taste.
