Well telling you as a Filipino my self.. I've never been complimeted by having Tan or Brown..by my own people..its just the Truth my brother...i most likely be in the Ugly side of the spectrum.. because ive experienced it..
They should not have to tell you who you are. Being Tan is a blessing. A lot of people don't know this because they lack exposure. You have a very healthy skin
@@TravelingTalongs one day my brother maybe one day all of humanity will not judge beauty by our skin color, height, nationality, and ethnicity..but for now let us just let it slide..for those who judge us.
@@TravelingTalongs being white is a global standard even in africa, its just the beauty standard the brown(asians),africans(blacks) wanna turned white while the whites wanna become a bit brown or tanned
The Spanish colonised the Philippines and they had tanned skin. It's to do with 'class' not trying to imitate the coloniser imo. If they have tanned skin it means they work in the fields, streets etc so are seen as poor and looked down on. In the West tanned skin was seen as an indicator that you could afford to travel abroad (in the early days), so again a class indicator. In China too they wear whole body coverings on the beach to avoid the sun and not get dark skin but again there it is a class thing. There is always someone who wants to feel superior to someone else, in EVERY country. Personally I love Morena skin.
Unfortunately, I grew up in a household where my grandparents think that when you have a tanned/dark color, you're not beautiful. They're unconscious about this because it is what was put in their mind since they were kids. Good thing that they're also understanding so when our generation grew up, we didn't have the fear of re-educating them that standards of beauty should not be based on skin color. Now I can proudly say that they love my boyfriend who's dark skinned ❤
I hope this video brings about a total transformation in how the darker skin pinoys look at themselves. She practically made it clear which skin is better even when she is white and from England. Nice
as filipino not all our food is belong to other colonies we love to experinment that colonies is not forever meaning we have different idea and all our attitude is not all base on colonies
I think it's the celebrities and the riches. Celebrities and riches have big influence to the concept of beauty. Here, early celebrities(1950s)tend to have fair and lighter skin. They are naturally have lighter skin because they don't work much outside such as rice fields.. It became a social status and concept of beauty through out the years until these modern days. Even in the west, I think they like tan because celebrities and riches have the capability to travel and get tanned in artificial way because they have money. It's social status.
It's true what you said about colonial mentality. It was ingrained in Filipinos for a long time. So, it's still apparent up to this day unfortunately. Also, Asians in general like to be white hence, the marketing for skin whitening products is popular. But I think it's human nature too where we always wish what we don't have 🤔😅
Having a darker skin here in the Philippines means you’re more exposed to the sun therefore farmers working class and a lighter skin means you’re probably of the upper class of society which people tend to look up to that is probably the reason why people here tend to admire more the lighter skin
I'm brown and I love my skin even more the day after tanning at the beach. It brings dark brown glow and I kinda get turned on looking at myself in the mirror.
That is true Filipina women or even men ar very insecure to the Western and European skin so they want that skin too if you notice there are lots of clinics or even in social media offering services too make their skin white and flawless. But the western and European likes our color of the skin which is tan. I'm not insured what colour of my skin i my colour as Tan coz for me it's balace
All I know is pork blood (dugo2x) is a slave food back in the days of Spanish Colonialism and my people doesn’t even know that! Pork blood became a filipino dishes hahahahaha
Light skin is commonly more appreciated in Asia. China, Japan, Taiwan, Koreans, etc. want to be white. it has nothing to do with colonization. it's just a common preference. Not all countries in Asia were colonized by whites or Europeans. As a Filipino, we are independent thinkers and shouldn't be generalized like that. We are more influenced by other Asian cultures like Koreans Japanese, etc.
Let's be real... Setting pride aside, we know most Filipinos, and I emphasize, not all, are like that due to the colonization. For centuries we've been taught to hate our own culture and adopt the foreign one. Anything that had to do with our native culture like, traditional tattoos, our native language, clothes, were seen as low class and primitive by the colonizers for centuries. It's funny because now those stuff are seen as cool and exotic. Some of our people are still enslaved by this colonial mentality. They would rather adopt a foreign culture like Korea, Japan or the Western one rather than our own.

The hygiene factor: most of us are born white. That baby skin gets exposed to the sun alot and you look like a giraffe. Elbows, back of the neck and knees subject to friction gives it darker tone, it means you are not scrubbing. The choice is either get your whole body tan or whiten the darker spots.
